Jelly Bean and taskbar ads - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone.I'm looking for a consistent method to fully disabled the system area ads that many apps make use of and this at the end goes far beyond spam.
In ICS we could uninstall the adservice and ads were gone. Jb doesn't have this but you can disable individual notifications which is still not enough since the service still runs in memory.
I haven't managed to locate this service or to find any method to disable ads (except from notifications option) so, if someone finds a way, please share

Root your phone and install AdFree Android from market. Ads will disappear - both in applications and taskbar.

Nope, that will only work for ads within the app. I have always been using it but taskbar ads use a different agent

Install airpush detector from play store and run it. It should do the work.

That did not do the work.
says it can not detect anything, when you run it it loads up but does not find anything framework related to these ads.
for instance i always wanted to know how to remove them aswell but couldnt find a way very annoying they are they start up every time you reboot.
for instance a game called : CK Zombies installs its own ads service that runs in the background constantly called :GluNotificationService
Real annoying and no way to perminently remove that i have found yet.

where are the pop up ads coming from?

Is there a program that is causing the pop up ads on the 3D and if so how do I get rid of it?
Not root yet (waiting on Myn) so I cannot use ad blocker.
Uninstall it.

You can use CPU spy (i think thats the name...never had to use it myself but i hear its good for runaway apps) or maybe even the battery info tool built in to see what, if anything, is running after a fresh boot besides stock apps. Once you isolate the item you can remove the faulting APK and hopefully be in the clear. If its an APK you just got to have i'd root and install AdFree by Big Tin Can to install and maintain an actively updated hosts file that routes all typicall ad call's back to the local machine (set address 127.0.0.1).
Hope this helps some man!
Pop ups....? Seems like some sort of malware app.

It's some apps that are giving you the ads. Unistall the last app you installed.

Some developers are doing this type of advertising now. Check comments for the complaints. I know there are apps to detect some of these advertising methods but I can't remember them. I've had it happen with some live wallpapers and games. If I'm not mistaken, I've had it happen with at least 1 app from the GO Dev team (maybe a wallpaper they did? Can't remember).
Thanks for the responses but if I knew which app was doing the ads I would delete it.
How do I find out which app is causing the ads which are on the notification bar?

Ads in the notification bar are called AirPush ads (new company introduced them). There's an app called AirPush-Detector that will tell you what apps are using it. See if that helps.

[Q] Removing Airpush

Okay, I got done. I used to use Shadow Era and then got an update a while ago, which had airpush ads in it. So repulsed by this was I that I deleted the app from the phone. I have run airpush detector and it says I'm clean. I have put my IMEI number into the manual optout on the airpush website. However it looks like I am still occasionally getting this notification spam (white star with red circle in it). Its on a rare basis (once a week at most) and whilst I can still ingore it easily I'm kind of ticked because I'm not using the program for the ads anymore. I cannot use their optout app on the market as its not compatible with my Motorola milestone 2.
Is there any other way to block/remove this advertising? Or am I a unique case that has fallen though the cracks (yes I have emailed airpush today)
Same thing here after installing AmeriCan Android. How do you remove this?
That Airpush is being an annoyance lately. I hate that thing a lot. Now I'm starting to push them back by reducing the app rating to 1 star for all those apps using Airpush and also write warning remark.
For App developers, you can put In-App advs, which we can bear having while we're using ur app. but while we're not using ur app, don't hog our phones and our notification by this malicious adv push. A
I am quite happy for airpush detector as it found air push in a theme i had downloaded for go launcher, that i wasn't using, was the culprit. The theme had updated and added in air push later on.
I released an app that can block Airpush ads on Rooted devices.
To get more info go to the market: https://market.android.com/details?id=pl.byq.airblocker
Ads on notification bar is just another form of mobile advertising.
I don't agree they show notification ads while not using the app,
But I only agree if they show the notification ads when the app is running !
I hope Airpush will change their attitude in future, (and perhaps Admob also have option to include ads on notification bar too, so devs can earn more money)

here is the most advanced app to remove airpush packets

You have 3 new flirts. (WTH?)

Just rebooted my phone after trying a bootanimation.zip (which didn't work)
It was called "call of android" and had an "android" folder instead of "part0/part1"
normal stuff, I just tried renaming android to part0 and the same in the desc.txt file
anyway----
When I rebooted my phone (doubt anything to do with bootanimation.zip) it said in the notification bar "+" and in the pull down "You have 3 new flirts"
The + was green, anyway I clicked it thinking "uhhh?" and it opened a webpage "affiliate.add" soemthing, then i closed it, the page didn't load.
What is this and why is it on my phone? I don't play games, I come to XDA, and I use apps as tools not toys. Where'd this come from? Can I upload something from my phone that would be more detailed/help? (App list or something)
I get this too, its certain apps, they do push notification ads. I still am trying to figure out which app is doing it for me..
Use Addons Detector. Works like a charm everytime!

am I looking for "push notifications" ? thats what pops up atop my screen?
"Mp3 Music download" uses AirPush
Whats AdMob ? I hate all these ads in apps, no one clicks them except on accident. Useless as PC ads too bad I can't figure out how to use the adblock plus app on my phone. I read there is host files that "block" ads, do they remove all the visible junk in apps and web?
Yes push notifications are the apps that give you notification spam.
Admob ads and such can mostly be blocked with hosts files. If you don't want to flash any rooms just use AdAway. You will need to be rooted to use it.

I'm already rooted, running 12081022_exp kernel by entroy and Lite'ning Rom v6.1
Can I still put a host file in there? Whats the host file exactly?
Cool! Adaway did a hot reboot (its not under my power off options) How can I get my phone to hotreboot? Good ol boot anim
AdAway modifies your host file for ad blocking with the least background consumption, sooooo you're all set.
As for that hot reboot, no idea

Airpush Detector is specifically designed to target notification ads. Just uninstall the offending app.
I installed and use that boot anim as well as another guy who requested it. Don't think it was the ba.

Not even possible. It's an app that was installed. The bootanimation only contains images.
It was not the bootanim I deleted "Free Mp3 Download" app that was using "AirPush"
Do I have to turn on the Webserver for adaway to work? It removed the Ad's in the bottom of my apps, SO NICE
AdAway just downloads a new host file. Otherwise it is never actually running. I run it once every couple weeks tops, to check for updates.
So no, you don't need a internet connection to use AdAway. As long as you have at least updated once that is...
It's pretty much telling your ad's to go to something instead. Example:
ad.google.com will head to 127.0.0.1 - Since that is your local IP, and your not running a webserver, it will fail.

I've been getting the same ads, but Adaway isn't doing anything. Could Adfree be any different?
Also, I think these are tied to a specific app I've installed - anyone know which one might be causing this? I've never seen ads like this in the notification tray - they show up with a big green "+" sign.

if this is something that's been occurring recently, check the notifications for any recent apps you installed.
adaway works great for me and dramatically increases browser page loading speeds. does a great job at eliminating ads.
This typically happens when you download a free app. Paying for the app should not give you pop ups. In my past i havent had any luck with ad blocker. I use adhoc on my HTC Sensation.
I had the same thing. And they are right. It is from a free app. I tried everything to get rid of it and could not even when I deleted all apps I installed. I ended up resetting to factory and reinstalling apps. No problems since.
Download addons detector from the market and see what app is the culprit of the leadbolt ads. Then uninstall it.
Ad Network Detector by Lookout Labs.
They're almost always spot on at identifying the programs that are causing the annoying issues.
Adaway works great for me aswell
I would have recommended adfree (rq root) but it reduces flash functionality for video playback on some websites
Installed "airpush detector" from the market and discovered that Tablet Wallpapers was the app giving me the spam in my notification bar. Uninstalled it, so hopefully that will do the trick!

All the above mentioned apps worked for me as well. I am ad free now! The best for me was Ad Network Dedector whitch found all kinds of apps on my Prime. Good luck!
If an app is sending ads to your notifications bar, you should find out which app it is, leave the most negative review possible regarding the notification bar ads (but be polite, people ignore reviews filled with curse words) and then uninstall the app.
If people don't use an app because it has notification ads, then app developers will stop using this method of advertising to promote their products.
Honestly though, Google needs to step in and stop people from spamming the notifications bar with advertisements. That area is for important information, not crap like "50% Off Downloadable Armor in Blood & Glory!"
Ad Notification
Tablet wallpapers was the culprit for me as well.
Download Addons detector from the market this might solve your problem....
You really need to change your title. I though it said infected with aids
Also go with adaway works really good.

YIKES!,,,,I hope I don't have to go that route....
Lookout Security & Antivirus found mine in ChargeBar Free Edition,
ChargeBar came embedded in the NottachTrix 2.3.0 ROM.
I installed it (NottachTrix) and it (ChargeBar) didn't update for 3 months, then, BANG.
I've deleted ChargeBar's update, moved it from system apps to apps, deleted it, and the browser pop open 'ad.leadboltads.net' still persists.
Lookout Security & Antivirus can not find the new location of the malware, they do not have a forum.
By the very definition and behaviour, this is malware, and, ChargeBar (Asgard Casino Apps) is involved in the distribution of malware.
Asgard Casino Apps distributes 34 apps that behave this way.
They are using Google to distribute this malware, abet, that app is benign in its origin, its a pipeline, or conduit for malware.
Sneaky F##kers aren`t they.........
#1) I would like to get this crap off my phone.
#2) I need to bring this to Google's attention, and have the developer and apps banned from the Play store.
Sooo, starting with #1,,,how do I get this crap off my phone!
NOTE:
I will be linking to this post in the NottachTrix post, I'm asking the developers to to move ChargeBar from the ROM zip.
My MBAM forum post: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/inde...06#entry764184
Any solution to this?
I'm just having the same issues and none of these suggestions helped.. really dont wanna factory reset..

[Q] Still Getting Ads Pushed to Notification Even After deleting Airpush Apps?

I am still getting ads pushed to my notification bar even after I deleted all the apps which are using Airpush. How is this possible?
I've tried several Airpush detector apps including 'Airpush Finder' (which found that 2 GoSMS themes had Airpush, so I deleted them). Now there is 0 apps detected using Airpush...however I am still getting ads in my notification bar. The latest one was something like, "40% OFF SALE FOR 100th...Redefine your phone with this 3D Launcher..."
I suspect its coming from the new version of Go Launcher EX which I recently updated, but I have no way to verify it since nothing is being detected. Could it also be some bit of code left on my phone from the previous airpush apps which I deleted? I don't know where its coming from. Please help.

When an add is displayed in your notification bar, press and hold it.. then it will show the 'App info' option.. click on that and then you will come to know which app is pushing these ads..
