[Q][P]How to specify right MIC for VOICE-APP - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

In my xperia play there is two mic, one on the bottom for calling, one on the back for noice reduce.I flash the FXP139(base cm9) a fews days ago, and found that this rom use the "mic on the back" as the main one, for example, when use google voice search , I have to speak to the phone back, it looks very stupid.
So my question is, it's possible to specify a mic as the main-mic for the app?BTW, my mic volum is very low when calling, so I also want to known how I increse the mic gain, thx for any body can help me

Galaxy SII 19100 ( incoming voice coming from back cover )

guys sorry about posting again, but this thread is continues to the old one but with a different problem.
note: i tried to delete/close the old thread but i didn't know how.
any way, my problem is the volume of the person i am speaking to is extremely low
any way i tried many ways:
*apps like volume+ and equalizers.
*changing volume from service mode.
*changing kernel
*changing firmware
*updating firmware to the latest official
the funny thing
i use grooveip to call through google voice
the app has an option to increse speaker volume
when i increesed the volume i started hearing the voice a bit louder and then i noticed that the volume is coming from the back cover.
when i flip the mobile to the other side and i put my ear on the cover, i can hear the voice a little better but still extremely low
note : mobile lout speaker working correctly and when i plug the headphone i can hear very clear and loud. so the problem is only while i am on the ear speaker
i am confused, is it a hardware or a software problem ?
if the speaker is broken will there be voice coming out from the speaker ?
please advice and thanks in advance :good:

[Q] Test Noise Reduction Mic?

I was sleepily switching SIM cards and accidentally poked the sim tool into the noise reduction mic.
I'm sure I felt a little click or pop and I'm obviously worried I've damaged something.
Is there any sure fire way to test its definitely working properly other than just making calls?
I pulled up the diagnostics menu but I can't see anything relevant in there to test, is there anything in there perhaps not immediately obvious that could help me see if it's functioning properly?
Thanks!
Well, now I don't feel so stupid for doing the same thing.
Guess we are three.... any findings??

Well either it's an ongoing problem, or there's three stupid people. I'm gonna go with ongoing problem.
Only findings I have is that the phone's function doesn't seem to be impacted at all.
I've not noticed any issues, calls seem to be fine!
I didn't find anything else concrete, just an article somewhere talking about the diagnostics menu where I left a comment. The author came back to me and had also done something similar (it's a real issue! ) and said his was fine and it "probably" hadn't done any lasting damage
Good to know, thanks!

the 4th stupid
and here is the 5th stupid. :silly:
Yet another. I just did the same on Galaxy E5. A bit worried although nothing seems broken.
A 6th stupid
I did the same too...
Well, fortunately I'm not one of you, stupid people D ) but maybe I have a tip to test the microphone.
Open the voice recorder and set the interview mode (I have set the Italian language on my phone, so I don't know the exact english name of the app and of the function, sorry): using that you can record the voice of two people (one in front of the other) using the 2 microphones, with a visual feed of what mic is recording the sound (you have the visual feed in the play mode, too).
Test it!
Thank for the advise Glaucos, I ran the voice recorder and luckily both microphones appear to be in good order even though I poked the hole of the noice cancellation mic pretty hard.
Hey guys, I'm with the same problem haha, someone poked my mic and I don't know how to check it.
My galaxy A3 2016 has the Samsung Recorder, but I'm unable to change to the interview mode. Any thoughts of another recorder I can download?
Thanks in advance!
Working solution for testing mic (works for both the mics )
Dial *#0283#
This will take you to mic test menu, offering 4 options i.e. rcv_1st mic
Rcv_2nd mic
Earphone
Stop.
Generally second mic is the mic on the top(noise cancellation mic)
Choose the option and speak into it. It will be reapting your sound. If it does then its working else you have damaged it.
Choosing the option channels the mic and speaker into something like mic to speaker system where you speak into mic and hear the same thing out of the speaker at the same time.
I have tested this on my galaxy note 5

Thanks! Worked on my A50 with android 10. Droped the phone to the water and I was unsure if the second mic was working ok.

Setting up Second Mic as Main mic?

So I'm guessing I blowed my main Mic, and now I was wondering if there is any way to set up the secondary mic as the main(for phone calls and whatsapp voice messaging) , since I know this one is still working.
I've been looking through the build.prop and cant seem to find anything defining where the mic settings are or what apps have access to which mic.
I have a galaxy a500fu running custom CM12.1 by the @TheWhisp
I'd be so happy if someone has an idea, because i really don't wanna buy a new mic and open up my phone once again

Mic in calls does barelly transmits any sound, unless you speak at <1 inch from it

When I place or receive a regular call the other person can barely hear me unless I speak less than 0.5 inches from the microphone. At less than 0.5t inches, they hear me good. At 2 inches extremely muffled or nill (this is the distance of the mouth in a regular call), and at 3 or more inches nothing at all.
Physically the mic however works fine when recording videos, so it has to be something non-physical. Also confirmed with a test on the Microphone at *#*#7378423#*#* where the both primary and secondary mics record fine.
In desperation I used flashtool and re-image the whole thing (even with erasing all data) with the latest XpriFirm ROM and tested it right after the successful image and without installing any 3rd party apps. The problem still there.
I also tried 3 different ROMs from different countries, but the problem still there.
Using a external wired headset mic works fine.
It seems, like a setting that is aggressively reducing the mic sensitivity just for the phone calls.
Ruled out 3rd party applications, mic physical damage or normal Android setting, I am really lost on to proceed from here!
Does anyone know what to do?

Bootloader has never been unlocked so no root.
Do you have the volume all the way up during the call? As in once call is started turn it up.
Idk how much it will help but have you tried to flash the soundmod? I have never had a problem with the mic other than a small echo on speakerphone. Also have you tried speakerphone wile in call? Might be something wrong with the phone apk, try a third party phone dialer? It wouldn't hurt to go through the sound menus to check everything as well.
Hi!
I doubt is a setting (in the Sound Effects options everything is off) since I flashed a stock clean ROM.
Did not know there are alternative dialers... I will study them today.
Regarding flashing the soundmod, can you do that without being rooted? If so, i'll search in how to do it too.
Cheers and thanks from just a couple of dozen miles south of you Sagnasty.
Have you tried to change the value of microphone sensitivity, although the option is in the Settings / Sound and Notification / Accessory Settings - turn mic sensitivity to high and see how it is then in a conversation?
The Speakerphone as suggested by civicsr2cool was surprising... the mic just picks up voice just fine from the distance in that setting!!
Then I just played with those mic sound settings as per Monipeev, (I did that days ago) but now it did something and in any sensitivity setting works fine... it must have been playing with this setting and the speakerphone one that may have unstuck some mic glitch.
Thanks so much guys... and two think I spend hours trying to solve this and even flashing ROMs! :victory:
Hi everybody. It happend to me with my Xperia Z5 compact as well - the mic did not work properly during call, but when I tested it offline the mic was OK. Playing with settings did not work as well as factory reset, so I ordered microphone spare part from China (ca 2$) and replaced it. Then the problem disappeared. I agree with polar_bay above it seems like mic glitch - I think my spare mic was slightly different from the original (maybe less sensitive) and that's it. Maybe also complete voltage drop (battery disconnection) helped to unstuck it.
My recommendations are:
1. play with mic settings (sw)
2. open the phone and disconnect the battery for a while (1 minute)
3. place small&thin absorber between mic and hole in phone case
4. replace microphone
hi, I have just bought another used xperia z5 compact as my other device has gotten old. after I received the new one I almost directly rooted it installed twrp and flashed lineageos 17. after a while I recognized that the microphone is not working during calls, only if the speaker is enabled. also when i want to record audio or use the tuner it doesn't work.
is there any chance to find out if it is a hardware problem or if it can be solved by some setting or so, be it coding?
thanks for any hints!

Microphone default settings

Hey guys, so I've had my pocophone for a while now, the phone works fine, although I have an issue. Whenever I call with someone, it seems like I'm far away from the microphone. I've tested the microphone using a microphone testing app, there I noticed that when I talk directly to the camera, it seems to pick up way more than when I try to talk on the bottom mic (the 6 dots on the left next to the usb input). So I've been wondering, why is it like this? And is there a way to fix this? I have to use an external mic (from my earphones) to be able to communicate clearly since it picks up that microphone instead, but I'd prefer it if I can just talk to the phone directly.
