Sim to Micro Sim Question - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings,
I recently got this phone :victory: very happy coming from my galaxy S2.
First thing i found was that only takes micro sim so i asked O2 for a micro sim and as soon it arrived i gone to their website to make a sim swap.
Now all seems to be transferred across, i have my old balance, i can use the internet and i asked a friend to call my old number and it rings on the new micro sim but when i go to settings > about device > status > my phone number is still says the new number from the micro sim?!! There is no option either to change it.
Not a massive problem since i can do everything normal but having the new number there kind bugs me.
Anyone had this and was able to sort it out?
Ragards

You have to register the new number with your service provider.

No i chose to keep my old number, and my old number rings on the new micro sim after i did the swap but on the settings i shows my number is the new number that came with the micro sim!

Like i said never mind, i will ask and subscribe elsewhere.
Best regards

The mobile number you see in my settings is written in your sim.
This number is usually written by your service provider.
Unfortunately there is no option to change this number in android phones.
However you can change it by yourself using iphone.
If you do not have access to iphone you can contact your service provider to do it for you.

Oh well, on my phone My Number is..: Unknown i dont care.though.

This problem can be fixed without calling O2.
I don't know why people are telling you its not possible, IT IS POSSIBLE. Ignore them.
I was able to change this number in settings whilst running either cyanogenmod / hyper galaxy (can't remember which). But one or both of these ROMs has the option to change it.
You go to phone application then press menu to access settings, and look around.
I changed my number because it is unknown but really its not that important changing it
EDIT
running CM10 I have the option to change the phone number.
Dialer > Settings > Additional Settings > My phone number
There you can enter in your current number and it will be changed
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

Thanks for the replies guys, that is all I needed to know. I still have CM10 installed on my Galaxy S2 so I'm gonna put my SIM there and give it a shot.
Thanks again

The easiest way would simply be to root the Galaxy S2, try using the zerg rush exploit and when you get root, everything is quite easy to do.
The long method will be going back to an earlier version of ROM that is directly rootable. Head over to the Galaxy S2 forums, there are tons of info on how to do that.

Reading fail.
@OP, this is the I9100 forum, you do not have an I9100 and any advice people give you here is likely to be for the wrong device, like above, and likely to make your situation much worse.

Wrong forum, AND it sounds like he bought a device that is locked due to the PIN being mis-entered too many times. Possibly a stolen or lost device that someone hocked on eBay to try to make money off a poor, unsuspecting soul. (The OP, in this case, unfortunately)
This is what I am suspecting.
I am filing paypal case tomorrow morning and I don't want to be wrong side of law.

IMEISV

Hi
I just wonder how to check a geneius samsung phone. I got an IMEISV with 3531xxxxxxxxxxx /01 at the end. Is this ok?
Thanks

That's a major problem. You were actually sent a prototype of a new brain wave manipulation bomb instead of a phone. What ever you do, don't set an alarm as this causes the bomb to go off and might kill everybody in the vicinity who worries too much about unimportant stuff like IMEISV numbers.
The only way to save yourself and others is to do a quick Google search to find out that the SV refers to software version and that the number is your specific version. I hope you survive this crisis and start using Google a lot more as it might help you avoid other catastrophes like this one.

well i googled it and it brought me here..
what i want to know is can that affect the outcome of a unlock code request?
i have the atrix 4g and the unlock code is not working! is there some type special input method or pre-digits to get the phone unlocked?:fingers-crossed:
i got the same. imei number /01 what is that?
Is it not just the imei sv? I have aosp custom rom so it shows in 2 different fields (imei and imei sv) but maybe sammy roms just put it in 1 field.
Do you have an imei AND imei even field?

No service, changed IMEI, S/N 00000000

Hello, I have just bought an used Galaxy S3, but unfortunately I have some problems. The main problem is that I am unable to make calls. The phone shows No service and it doesn't matter whether SIM is inserted or not. Another thing I have noticed is changed IMEI. It is different than one behind the Battery. Also, serial number is 00000000 and it is very strange.
I would be very grateful for any help!

It sounds like you've got a phone totally wiped and your EFS folder is clear. Your EFS folder contains your imei number. Your phone is unusable. Ask the seller if he has a backup of EFS folder.

Yes, sure I will ask the seller for the backup. However, let's say he doesn't have it. Then there won't be a possibility to get ir working?

Here ya go. It can be fixed pretty easily however as of now it will show you roaming even if you aren't.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31051731
Edit actually after reading this new method it seems they fixed the roaming problem. Mine is backed up so I dont really follow this closely. I would however demand some money back for the shady business.

[Q] Chinese phone, what model do I have?

Got a Galaxy 3, in Chongqing China. In the middle of the haggling proses (700USD) I discovered that the IMEI on the box and the phone wasn’t matching (every possible thing have to be inspected in china). The seller didn’t seem bothered by my questions about the IMEI, and told me something about Hong Kong, UK and smuggling, I didn’t really get it! After some more negotiation I got the phone down to about 500USD, and where told 700USD if I wanted same IMEI on the box and the phone.
Anyway now I want stock rom on my phone and are unsure what rom to install? This is the info I have.
Connected to Kies:
Device name: SGH-I747M PDA:LEM / PHONE:LEM /CSC:LEM (TLS)
Printed on phone (under battery):
GT-I9300
Setting- About device:
Baseband:T999UVLEM
Bulid number: romup dott com
Thanks,
Wrong IMEI probably a stolen / cloned / fake phone .
Details are not reading as a Samsung I9300 phone .
99.99% sure this is a fake or possibly a stolen USA network phone that has been customized .
jje
The model number doesn't look great, it should say i9300 not just "Samsung Galaxy S III" there's like 4 different models.
The i9300 can't receive 4G. I'm not sure why that phone has the 4G symbol because mine doesn't show that.
I checked that romup.com website and despite the look of the website I couldn't find anything saying the phone was a replica or anything like that
Hopefully you haven't bought a replica, I've seen some of the fakes that are being produced right now and oh wow.. they're 1:1 alright. They don't even suffer in terms of hardware, I've seen some models have a quad-core processor and a 8mp camera etc

I do not think it's fake, normally all fake Chinese phones fairly easy to detect. Have compared it with other s3 without finding differences. But guess its a gray market phone. Anyway do you think its possible to get a stock rom on it?

1) The box will have no IMEI
2) The screen size will not be the same (it will be big but slightly off)
3) The back of the phone/case
4) On some of the models the "Samsung" title is raised
5) It will be slightly thicker then the original S3
6) won't report correct model number
7) will not have samsung features, by this I mean the camera will not be samsung, the gallery etc etc.
There's many different models some are better then others so these ways to detect a fake are not universal, the best way is "about phone" and yours is showing signs of a fake.

Not sure about 6) and 7) you know. I have studied the rest, and every thing else leads me believe it is an original. Sim card slot is on the same spot, the screws are on the same spots..... And yes the phone is working great, but I really want the latest rom.
Just called a friend of my working for Telenor Mobil (my operator) he told me from what he could read on the network side my phone show up as Samsung SGH-T999, and the IMEI is not blocked.
What are the risk trying to install stock rom or anything else on this phone?
