Jellybean App2SD - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone i noticed after jellybean that none of the apps are no longer saved on the extsd, question is, is this caused by the apps because they still arent able to save themselves on the sd card because they were mean for ics or has the app2sd feature been removed on jellybean? I know theres a way around it but its still different thanks
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Well what little I know is that apps2sd never supported galaxy s3, it is not jelly bean but Samsung made it like that. The other way is directory bind or you can install a zip file to interchange your storage.
Sent from my GT-I9300

It was like that on ICS too Samsung changed it on their new products
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

It appears that sadly the galaxy s3 i9300 is a lot less powerfull than say a galaxy s i9000. Your not allowed to have multiple large games or any other applications stored on the external memory card. You don't appear to be able to store applications and data on external sd card. Seems like a massive step backwards for Google or Samsung. Who knows who? I have a 64GB external sd card.and at least it appears I can st least store photos and music.
Am I wrong? We have such a powerful system we just can't run many large games before running out of core memory.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Well i guess thats that then i was happy with my 16gb from my s2 apparently i have to go 64 and do the app to sd mod, hopefully were not headed to the apple way of things with us having to buy larger memory versions of what we have hehe, but still this phone is awesome and i love it!!! one more question, if any of you have tried the app2sd mod (not the directory bind) do i copy over all my stuff to the sd card or i wipe everything then transfer my tibackup files to the sd card then restore everything or will there be an option that i can now transfer my apps to the sd card?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

its not galaxy s3 but jelly bean 4.x
The app2sd problem is not that of galaxy s3...its that of jelly bean 4.1 and above...it seams google got angry and jellous with all the mobile firms givings sd card slot while its nexus 4 doesnt...so it made the sd uselss! I'm writing this from my Sony xperia z which has jelly bean 4.1.1 and i too cannot use my sd card to store apps or games! Shame on u google!

When I go to download an item I an told I don't have enough space I have a 32gb micro SD and still have at least 19gb free I am running shostock2 v1.0 (will be upgraded by the end of the day to g1.1) is there a way to combine internal SD with external SD?

Definitely no way to combine the 2 as far as i know. (that's what wp7 does and locks the ext sd up).

What are you downloading? When downloading an app I think it requires the space to be available in the "device memory", that partition is where apps install be default and is about 2 GB. If you are downloading a single file over 19 GB, then you would have to move the files from your SD card to your phone memory to make the space available in a single place.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
If you're downloading a file from your browser, you can set the default download location to your SD card instead of your phone memory.
If you're downloading an app and you're out of space, yeah your only option is to move some apps to the SD.
I don't use any phone memory I have 1 of 2gb free in phone memory but my phone says I have 10gb internal but I have used it all then I click "external_SD" I have 20gb open in that area
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
As explained above: you need to have enough room in the phone's internal memory. Go to settings/applications and move some existing apps to the external SD. I had to do this recently when trying to install Modern Combat 3.
I have room on internal memory for the phone it tlself the phone took my 32gb men card and split it into internal and external is there a way I can make it all one instead of two? I download tons of music and roms so I deal with the SD more than the device itself

Ok, all you need to do is set the default download location to your external SD instead of the internal. In gingerbread it's pretty easy to find in the browser settings...I have to assume that's where it is in ICS too.

Listen: the memory card IS NOT split. You have an external SD card. That's the one you can take out and hold in your hand. You also have another one of those that you can't take out; it's built into the phone. That's the internal SD card. Two different cards, not one split into two.

just like EVERY other phone out there, its advertised as 16gb
thats 16gb TOTAL storage.
it gets divided up into PARTITIONS just like EVERY OTHER phone
system
'internal' which is where APPLICATIONS get installed
/mnt/sdcard which is 12+/- GB of USER ACCESSIBLE SPACE *this is where stuff gets DOWNLOADED when you are downloading from the interwebz
/mnt/sdcard/external_sd (/mnt/emmc in AOSP roms) THIS IS THE EXTERNAL sd card...the REMOVABLE one
why do you keep thinking you are getting screwed out of space? or that anything is any different than other phones?

Q Apps 2 SD

Anyone been able to move they apps to sd card?
You should try app2zip app on the market recommend by bfitz26. It make a zip of your apps and you can just flash them to any rom.

I need to move them to sd cuz the sgs3 only holds a terrible 11 gb of data and some apps now are 1-2 gb so what I can only have 5 games? so dumb... I tried apps 2 sd but for some reason its not working, titanium backup isnt letting me move apps to sd either too
Also I can't even look at my SD Cards files from my phone? Wtf samsung do you not have sd card support?

It's a much bigger issue than this phone. Read this.... http://www.chainfire.eu/articles/113/Is_Google_blocking_apps_writing_to_SD_cards_
So basically samsung is preventing the sd card from really being very usable on purpose?

how to move apps to external sdcard ?

hi I have TMobile gs3 I just wonder how can i move some of apps to external sdcard?
I can do it in my gs2 before.
Get the app called App 2 SD
Rom toolbox will help you with that as well and it has a bunch of other cool features like a file explorer, direct downloads of roms, etc.

Is because of how Samsung named it, it name it as ext SD card, and most apps look for SD card which internal in our device , meaning we need to get support for it if is possible

Yes you can, just with this S3 it can't. i'm not sure Sammy disabled it or missed it. with S2 I can move apps to sd with 2.3 and 4.0
now i'm almost out of space if Sammy not gonna fix this issue soon i'm selling it
Could you just rename the folders if you are rooted, or would that screw things up?
Would love to know what to do myself. I have the 16 gig and of that 16 gigs I only have 12.05 gigs to put apps on. If I was only putting smaller apps on it would be a lot but with the games I have on my phone like NOVA 3 and Modern combat 3 use a lot of space. I got the 16 gig expecting to be able to move my apps like I have been in the past, now I wish I had the 32.

Moving Files to SD Card

I'm sure there have been a plethora of topic and/or posts devoted to my question so please bear with me! If there is a specific thread/posts related directly to my question then please direct me there.
I desperately need an app that can move files to my SD card on a NON-ROOTED phone. I would appreciate any tips or suggestions.
Thanks!

I'm guessing you need an app to move apps to the (external?) SD card , right? If that's the case, there are plenty that try to do just that, but they usually need root access. Those that work without root access (e.g. Apps 2 SD) are only able to move certain apps, as the vast majority does require root access to move them.
If you meant regular files, I think the default file manager would do the trick. Or any other file manager (e.g. Astro File Manager).

Sorry for not being more specific.
I'm definitely trying to move files to my external SD card. I think that I may have seen Apps 2 SD but forgot about it. Yea, that's the one major problem with the S3 is the inability to move apps to the external SD card. And, I'm painfully aware that most of the apps out there are for rooted phones, which just sucks.
Oh well, I'll download the A2SD app when I free up more space to do so.

I'm now at my breaking point with this dang phone! After deleting over 20 apps that have resided on my phone for months & moving dozens upon dozens of files to my external SD card, I'm still getting the annoying message "Storage space running out..."
I've attached a couple of screenshots from Settings > Storage Settings to see if anyone can make heads or tails from them.
Thanks.

Finally after doing some more research turned out one of the major culprits were the Miscellaneous files under Storage> Settings. Got rid of most of those & now I'm back to'normal'.

App 2 SD won't work on the S3. Your only options are DIrectory Bind and swapping external and internal cards using a flashable script

That's the first time that I've heard that one of the App 2 SD apps wouldn't work on a non-rooted S3. Directory Bind is just fine if you have a rooted phone, which I don't.

There are numerous apps that go by the same name so I guess it's a matter of who the developer of the one you're referring to. That said, agreed that most of them do have a disclaimer.
What gets me is in a lot of the reviews, users state that you can accomplish moving apps to an external SD card on the SG3 without an app on a non-rooted phone. Haven't figured that one out yet!

Why cant i move Apps to Micro SD card?

I have had my galaxy s4 for about a week and a half now and love this phone. I still have 7 GB of space left, but tutorials online that show apps could be moves to the SD card. I have a Verizon Gs4 and when i go to application manager i do not see the option to move apps to the SD for all of my apps. I even tried installing a app that the tutorial shows was installed on the SD card and i could not move it. Has Verizon not launched the update for the S4 to install Apps to the SD card? It would be nice to move some apps to the SD card.
There should be an update soon. It is rolling out in Germany first.

At this point, we're unable to move apps to SD card. As you mentioned there is an update slated for the int'l version S4 - will be obviously after that b4 the Verizon mods are implemented. These is a app in the play store "folder mount" that could definitely help to maintain internal space: must be rooted

The update will be useless in regards to reclaiming space. You're better off buying the pro version of Folder Mount and using it to symlink Android/OBB.

If your comfortable with rooting, romming, etc... Most custom roms cut out a lot of the pre installed jazz. Off a fresh install of Clean Rom 1.9 I'm using less than 1gb of my internal storage.

Has there been any news on this?
If I'm running a custom ROM will my phone be able receive this update, or will I have to wait for the ROM to be updated as well? TIA
There is a nice program to perform this task ..You can Also transfer basic programs to external memory, but they need root...
Might I be so bold as to ask the name of said program?
