I have been going crazy trying to figure this out. Ok So I have a 32GB micro sd card. I am running the latest build of cyanogenmod. Once i transfer the files to my phone (lets say music files) they work great. Now if i restart the phone all of the music files are gone on the sd card and I have a directory on the sd card called LOST.DIR
I cant seem to figure out how to make it so the files dont die and be moved to the LOST.DIR. Once in there they are a bunch of files which are not music files, i assuming they are curropt files.
How can i fix this?
I had problems like that until I started partitioning and formatting with mini-tool

Format your sd card and try it again!
We'll more specifically repartition then format. Mini tool partition editor works great for windows

Im having issues locating my files on my external sd card, when i open es file explorer and go into the external_sd folder its empty, but my gallery is showing me all my pics from my sd card
any way to fix this or find my external sd card files?
thanks
are you on AOSP ROM? Does your computer show files on the external SD card?
It might in Removable folder?
Try look for it, im not sure
Are you going into /sdcard/external_sd?
That's where mine is...
I have this problem on my Original Galaxy Tab running ICS Alpha 3 ROM. The /sdcard/external_sd/ is empty. In my case, the external sd is mounted on /mnt/emmc/, which can only be accessed through Root Explorer.
Thank you mate, I just got an SD card yesterday and got baffled where it might be Too bad xda app doesnt support thanks feature :-(

My external SD card was working fine, had about 16Gb of Music on it. Tonight it has stopped working and is coming up with an error saying "SD card blank or has unsupported file" (I assume it means file system).
I put it into a converter and plugged into PC, Windows reported that SD card also had unsupported file system and asked to format it.
Is there a way to fix this? I really don't want to format the card and then copy all that music back on
Happened to me twice. You can try recuva to find files.

Hello, I have a problem on my galaxy note II GT-N7100, running Paranoid Android 4.0 beta, android 4.4.1
Ever since I've upgraded to KitKat, some of my apps don't detect data on external micro SD card. Most noticeably quick office, the bards tale. As most of my files are stored on micro SD this is very annoying. I can access those files using es file explorer but it would be better if apps could detect them as well. My external SD card pathway should be mnt/media_rw/sdcard1 but that's empty and I get invalid file path error.
I can access the ext sd by storage/sdcard01 though.
I've tried to format my ext SD, edit platform.xls etc but no solution. So any clue how to make quockoffice access documents on external micro sd?

First step reset data all the data
Then shut down and remove your sd card
Then turn on your mobile
?
?
Turn off your mobile and insert your sd card and turn on
Okkk
Tried it. It's the same, quickoffice still doesn't show the option to read files from external storage.
Is there a reason you're not asking in the Galaxy Note forum?

So lately i changed my SD card in my device to a Samsung 32GB and when I transfered all my song, later I noticed on the music player that many of the artist are missing.
when I went to check what's going on, I found out many of the folders were been replaced by empty folders that their name starts with the letter "µ".
like for example, the folder "ACDC" became "µCDC".
I tried transferring everything back again facing the same problems with different folders.
I tried doing a factory reset and tried moving the song to the SD card through a card reader, and checked the files were OK before inserting the SD card back into the device and they seemed fined, but after I inserted the SD card I noticed the folders got curropted again.
also before I inserted the SD card there was like 500 MB of free space on the SD card, while after I inserted it suddenly the was like 15 GB of free space, caused by so many data that got deleted.
I don't believe the SD card is damaged, but that my device is messing my things up....
I also remember that I couldn't transfer any video files to the SD Card when it was in the device and could only transfer them into the device's internal memory.
what can I do?
Use the sd formatting tool on your pc to format the card, if still the same then throw it away. It sounds like a fake card, did all the files work while it was in the pc?

All the files have worked while it was on the PC.
I even tried transfering everything via a card reader and everything check allright.
only when I insert it in my device some of the folders get screwd.
I just got a brand new Ultra z gpe and immediately i inserted my microsd from my sgs3. Immediately i noticed that i was not able to access my music and movies from my sd card.
Originally i thought it was just kitkat and its sdcard issues. But then i unplugged my sdcard and put it in my pc and i saw a bunch of folders where my files used to be marked numbers for example what used to be download becomes download.1 and songs.5 etc. And these folders are empty folders.
Please help

What format was the card?
a handy little recovery program is photorec. it wont recover the file names but will recover the files and metadata. Don't run it to save the files back to the card, but to a file on the PC

Format is exfat. Will check into your program, thanks

sd card corruption
same thing happened to me with a sandisk 64gb ultra card. before this, worked great without trouble in my NOTE ii
So is there a fix for this?
What is the proper way of using a micro sd card in the z ultra?
formating the card within the phone, then transferring via computer?
any suggestions would be helpful.
thanks.

Do not do such risky operations on the phone like formatting or partition setup. Do them on a pc with Gparted or something similar on windows. Easus works good for me when Im on windows 7.
Also mount the sdcard in a sdcard reader in to the computer. And yes. After partitioning is finished, mount the partition while the sdcard is still in its reader and transfer the data to the sdcard before putting it back in to the phone. It eliminates the risks of errors that could possibly be traced to the phone or something.
i have same problem, i feel my data encrypted and went to LOST.DIR folder somehow but idk how to recover them
