[Q] Failed root, failed restore. need help (warning idiot inside) - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Purchased I9300 a couple of weeks back and decided to checkout the toolkit, make some changes (with the aim being better battery life)
downloaded and installed toolkit.
followed on screen instructions - 76d xxblg9
once rooted and busybox was alledgedly installed phone reboots to hang on samsung screen.
restoring flash lead to the samsung logo not even appearing.and repeated rebooting got me to the sim unlock page, to be told that android had stopped working and a complete hang.
downloaded GT-I9300_NEE_I9300XXALE8_I9300NEEALE3_I9300XXLE8.tar.md5 and odined in (closest stock flash i could find, being a nordic resident)
now hangs on samsung logo.
so my question is twofold
1 - which stock flash is it i need, or should i just get hyperlite?
2 - an anyone point me to another thread regarding stockflashin the i9300? (as my search skills have failed to find anything that helps after 2 hours)
sincere thanks

Download mode > flash cf-root 6.4 > boot into recovery > wipe data/factory reset > boot > profit.
You could do a wipe in stock recovery but it will wipe your internal storage.

i ran into the same problem when i rooted my phone the first time around, as nodstuff said, you need to do a factory reset/wipe cache, ect to get it past the Samsung screen or it will just hang.

[Q] Hard Reset with Odin? Is it possible?

Was just curious, was hopin to send my phone back in to att today (due to a power button that no longer works) since i got a replacement. Unrooted back to stock and deleted all of my photos and everything and then got stuck on a bootloop so im unable to do a hard reset. Unfortunately I can't even get into 3e recovery since my power button is broken, so is it possible to do a hard/factory reset to wipe the internal SD from odin or any other program? much appreciated
If the phone is on and booted up, you can do a wipe data/factory reset from the settings menu within the phone:
Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset in Gingerbread
Menu > Settings > Back up and reset > Factory data reset in ICS
If your phone is not on, there are several ways to boot it:
adb reboot
flash stock firmware in Odin with reboot checked
etc.
You can also get into recovery with:
adb reboot recovery

I'll look into adb recovery. The phone is not on for clarification. It's stuck in a permanent bootloop.

If it were my phone, I would flash the stock firmware package in Odin, with reboot checked. Once the flash completes, the phone should boot normally. Then you should be able to wipe data/factory reset from the phone.
or try the adb reboot recovery to see if that will work.
If you still have a bootloop after flashing stock again, then you may need to flash the full stock distribution. You don't say in the OP how the phone got into a bootloop, or what you flashed to stock from.

Apologies again for not being specific and I appreciate your efforts in going back and forth with me.
The reason my phone is currently in a bootloop was when I followed the process on your thread for preparing my phone to be sent back for warranty replacement. Using odin I flashed the stock image (UCKH7, and my flash counter reads NO which is good) and after the phone extracted the files and Odin said I was bone stock, my phone just continuously reboots on the att startup animation (which you predicted and outlined could be fixed by going into 3e recovery and doing a factory reset but since my power buttons rubbish, I can't select any options even if I do get into 3e recovery)
Edit: I also flashed to stock from AOKP and I even followed through your process a second time thinking that re-flashing the stock firmware would remove the bootloop, however no luck

You probably don't need the bootloaders. I think adb reboot recovery is your best option. Let me know if it works.

Yeah that's what I figured as well since I can't select any options. It's Alright, luckily I deleted anything personal before even doing the unroot. And the Odin flash definitely unlinked all of my account info from the phone so I was just asking for my own peace of mind and curiosity. Just dropped the phone off in the mail this morning, thank you both for your help. You guys rule.

Give us more details on what you have done exactly before you flash the rom.
And details about which rom.
One solution would be to flash stock.
Go in download mode with 3 buttons combo(volume down-power and home button) open odin, put as pda the stock rom as a tar and hit start.
Note: Be sure kies tray agent is not running in the background you have to kill the process with task manager
I also have this issue, after using a CM9 rom then rolling back to stock rom I have downloaded the stock rom, not sure if its 100 match for my phone but its stuck at samsung logo its 1 day old, please help?
Thanks
get into download mode and try flash again.
Right, I can go back to custom rom, but stock rom wont boot, any suggestions?
please try to elaborate the exact steps that you have done to get to that situation.
if you are now flashing back to stock rom. try this, flash stock firmware using odin, once done dont reboot. straigth boot into recovery mode, and wipe data factory reset. then boot.
ive got the same problem. i installed cyanogenmod 10 on and it worked fine but couldnt get to wipe the internal sd card so still had stuff from past roms on. I thought if i flash back to stock then it would clear it all then i could reflash back to cyanogen 10.
i flashed the stock in odin and it wont go past the samsung logo. cant get into the recovery mode to wipe cache as it just resets back to boot screen and cant use the samsung toolkit as i cant get into usb debugging mode as cant get it to boot
any help really appreciated

I had this issue before. Phone is stuck at samsung logo. I reflashed stock lfb firmware and cf root. Cleared data/cache/dalvik. Then it worked fine.
If every recovery method fails then only resort is to visit service center, go there and act dumb and state phone went crazy and this happened out of no where. If they wont find out that you've f***ked it up then you will get mo-board replacement.
Flash stock LFB from samfirmware.com through Odin.
Then flash Siyahkernel (also through Odin)
Pull the battery for 5 minutes
Press and hold vol-up + home buton
Press power button until screen lights up
You should be in cwm now. Factoryreset your phone and it should startup again
If you don't want to loose your data, instead of factory reset you can try using adb shell and run e2fsck on the block device for /data
Corrupt ext-Partitions are usually the reason for a softbrick

I encountered the same problem. I almost fainted when I can't solve the problem. Finally I did. this is what I did:
1. download the Stock Rom (depends which country and carrier you are) Unzip the downloaded file and you should have .md5 file that you will later use.
2. download ODIN
3. Launch ODIN click on "PDA button" select the .md5 that you extracted (the file you downloaded and unzipped) and click start and wait until it finished (hopefully this will solve your problem but in my case ... the samsung logo still is stucked so continue with my next steps)
4. download the CF Root from
note: this will install the CWM or recovery mode for your phone that will give you several options ...
5. use ODIN again and click PDA button and select the CF Root that you have downloaded and click on start until it finished.
6. boot to Recovery mode by holding "volume up (yes volume up and not volume down)" and "power" and "home button" all at the same time until recovery mode reappears.
7. go to advanced and remove dalvik cache, do a wipe out or factory reset, wait for your phone to restart ... wait a minute or two and your phone is back to normal.

[Q] Help, bootloop after rom update

Hi everyone, i've got a huge problem with my i9300, i've got the foxhound/[email protected] rom since a week, and everything worked fine, i updated once without problems, however today i did the update with usual procedure, but now i've rebooted and i'm stuck on a bootloop after the apps optimizing part, where Android tries to optimize two apps, then open them, but then boot animation starts again over and over.
I tried going into recovery but it did not do anything, so i i tried flashing CWM via Odin, however now if i try starting in recovery only the samsung boot screen shows up and stays there forever.
Please help me

So I may have just bricked my Galaxy S2 I9100, help?

Rooted my Galaxy S2 last night, running 4.0.4. This morning I used a rooted app I had downloaded which increased the processor or overclocked it or something. The phone then restarted and is now 'bricked' and won't boot past the initial "samsung galaxy sII" animation. Is there anything I can do? I don't have any backups and really don't wanna reset my phone to factory settings..
If I turn it off and then hold down the up volume button, power button and home button it boots into a screen showing the following
I know it's using 'clockworkmod' 6.0.1.5 and it also says "PhilZ Touch 3"?
" - Reboot System now
- Install zip
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Wipe cache partition
- Backup and restore
- Mounts and storage
- Advanced
- PhilZ Settings
- Power off "
Tried 'Wipe data/Factory reset' but no difference, still stuck at the "Samsung" screen.
Not sure what else to try, using a Mac so can't even use Odin fml, any advice? I'm thinking if I can get hold of someone else's smartphone, I could download a new ROM / Recovery file and put it in my phone, to boot from? Not sure what one I should get though

You just resetted to factory settings. Now you can try different things to get your phone up and running again:
first, I hope you don't have a GT i9100G variant, because i only know the GT i9100
-if you have used SetCPU: boot to recovery (that menu where you tried "wipe data/factory reset"). Then >flash zip from sdcard > flash zip from internal sd. Then navigate to setcpu_safemode_toggle or similar, it's in the root of your sd (meaning it's not in any folder, just on the sd). flash it.
-if you don't have that file, boot to recovery, there you "delete cache" and advanced > delete dalvik cache. Then try to reboot. If that doesn't help:
-try to reflash the kernel with which you rooted btw the one you wanted to overclock (looks like it was made by PhilZ...). if you have a stock rom (not AOSP, but a modded samsung ROM) try a cf-root kernel (use the search!) which matches your ROM (sorry, no clue how to find out if you don't already know... just try one of the 4.0.4 kernels)
I have never connected a device in recovery to a pc for file transfer. Maybe it helps to fiddle around with the mount/unmount options.
If all of this is no use, find a friend with a windows machine and use odin, or learn about heimdall suite. I heard it works on linux and maybe mac too.
Hope I helped.

Problem is, I think I accidentally formatted my SD card, so the original ROM is no longer on there /derp
Also, does this mean I've wiped all data from my phone?
I'm thinking I'm gonna have to try flashing it on there using someone elses SD card, as I can't see how I would get the files onto mine.
So you must download a stock rom (www.sammobile.com) and flash it via odin. DO NOT WIPE ANYTHING until you flash a safe kernel (syiah, philz, dorimanx...) or you'll face the real hardbrick!

You erased all user data and apps when using "wipe data/factory reset". You can find out if your sd is formated by trying to flash a zip in recovery. If your folders are gone, you did format. If it is formatted or unaccessable, It is also possible that it is connected to the SuperBrickBug, though it seems unlikely. The advice by googy_anas is good. It is the safest way. Odinflash a stock rom, and see if it helps.

Could you please link me a rom? I'm confused where to get them from, I used this link: technoxide(DOT)blogspot(DOT)com/2012/10/root-galaxy-s2-ics-4.0.4-xwlpx.html to install the root in the first place, using the "METHOD 1 : ROOT 4.0.4 XWLPX WITH ZIP PACKAGE" method, not requiring a PC.
I've tried flashing several different ROM's I found online, all of which have come up with a big red "FAIL" in ODIN, except the first one, which caused a yellow triangle to appear and made the screen go weird and wouldn't allow me to boot into recovery mode any longer.
What am I supposed to do? Where should I get the ROM's?

I think you have kies program active on PC. Try to close it completely or end its task in the task manager, then retry with odin flash.
To be absolutely safe, you should also download a 4.0.3 rom instead of the unsafe 4.0.4
