I just heard that there is a fault/defect or even a backdoor in Jelly Bean.
Apparently there is a link, somewhere, in the software that takes you to a website, to get your whole phone reset/formatted.
Is there something to this, or is it a rumor, someone is just swatting around?
I, personally, don't believe this, because I've been using JB, since it has been available on the GS 3, but there are people believing this..

Ok. It goes like this. You know how there are dialer codes that make the phone do certain things? Like if you go to the dialer on most phones and punch in *#06#* it'll pop up the IMEI in a dialog box. There's a dialer code to format the phone without warning you. The issue was that the browser would automatically parse a telephone code, so if the website redirected you to a link that had tel://*the dialer code for reformatting*, the browser would paste it into the dialer and the dialer would automatically "dial"/run it. Kind of a stupid, "why didn't I think of that?" trick if you ask me.

I just discovered a way to take screen shots from any screen by holding down
the Power button and quickly tap the Home button.
Discovered by accident while trying to turn off my phone.

seeing it is his first post EVER, I'm actually quite proud of this person...he actually did a "what's called a search" or probably "read" somewhere on google and instead of asking questions he actually tried to help people out...despite the fact that most android users know this...this might be help to someone just like him who is new to xda or android...heck if I asked my dad if he knew how to do it, he wouldn't know...we have to realize that out of all the people who own android devices only a small fraction of people actually take advantage of what android has to offer and how to use use their devices (and not only cell phones) the right way...I am constantly bombarded from friends and family to go fix their computer, TV. cable box. phones. People just don't understand things

Actually, he did not search at all from my understanding. I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm just saying. From his OP, he states that he accidently found out how to take screen shots with the stock, none rooted rom when trying to turn off his device. Right away he posted the method up and I can bet without any search if that was a known feature for the amaze.
I'm pretty sure if you search Google, it will let you know thats a known stock feature for the amaze. But I guess you can give him credit for trying to help.

The funny thing about this, I had no idea this was a stock feature. (Granted I used stock for about the 5 hours I had the device and didn't read the manual)

Yuck! I've always considered myself to be a Google whiz, but apparently not. So what you're saying is if the OP would have typed this into Google, the thread wouldn't be needed? You seem to be typing out of both sides of your fingers. Not to mention, if the OP is new, I wonder what seperates him from other new noobs I see ripped for the same thing.
If my first post was "how to root amaze 4g" I'm sure it would be frowned upon for posting common knowledge that we could have searched and found the same info on.

No I'm not hating at all, I was actually commending the OP, just like I mentioned previously. I was merely pointing out the fact that with a little google search things can be found very easily...this is in no way against what the op did, trying to share what he thought was usefull information for many, and probably is for many who are new to android!!

Hey guys! I've lurked around here for a while. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S II for ATT a few months ago after being a longtime iPhone user. Therefore, I'm fairly new to the whole Android tweaking process. I want to install an ICS ROM onto my phone, particularly CM9. I've read the stickies, and am really trying to understand, but at the same time, do not wish to brick my phone. So could someone tell me if this is correct? Or where I'm wrong? Based on what I've read here, to install ICS, I need to...
1. Root my phone as outlined in the thread for that. (The one about not activating the yellow triangle. Since I'm on 2.3.6, I'll need to use "Odin3 One-Click Downloader".)
2. Backup my apps and texts and crap using Titanium Backup to my SD card.
3. Install the proper kernel (where do I find this?) using Mobile Odin.
4. Make sure CWM is active, backup NAND (I assume this is an option?) and flash CM9.
5. Flash Google Apps.
6. Restore my Ti backup.

Read, read and read some more. Do a search for Hellraiser as there are no true ICS ROMs for this phone yet, only i900 ports.
If you need to ask questions like this, you are not ready for ICS and ICS is not ready for you.
Since I9100 kernel source code has only been out for a week and we had a bunch of I777-specific **** to fix - while lots of progress has been made things are not quite working yet.

There are a lot of different roms. Usually they rewrite the kernel within the install of the rom. But basically you have the right idea...

Facts are facts, loser. There is not yet a fully-functioning official ICS ROM released for the i777, so any talk of one is premature. The guy admits in the title of this thread that he is a noob and doesn't quite understand. These are exactly the people who should not be flashing ANYTHING, let alone a ROM that is not ready for primetime. But keep on encouraging him and others so that the forum gets filled with people needing help to fix what they messed up. I'm sure you'll be rewarded with tons of adulation for your efforts. Generally speaking, do search in the thread first, say you're running AOKP ROM, then search within that AOKP thread for answer first. If generic issue like OP stated, search within this forum, i777. Then expand the search to XDA site and finally Google.
To OP, my suggestion, pls do provide more info if you want more useful help.

11 - How do the themes and mods work? On the iPhone the themes were images in folders, and the system images were in certains paths, so if I wanted to change something I just needed the correct path, even to make my custom images. How does all that work on android?

Before answer me, please note, I am NOT a total noob, I perfectly know what root is, just like I know stock, CWM, and all of that. I have a custom ROM. I know about the system, I'm just new to it and because of that I dont' know where certains things are.

1. Since each phone has its own specific mods and utlities there is no "universal app" like Google Play or Cydia. However there are a few apps for SGS3 like the Omega kitchen Files app (Play Store) and Kitchen Pro app which is locked to CheckRom.

4. AFAIK some ROMs remove that "utlity"
5. AFAIK no but lets see what someone else has to say.

7. You could use a youtube downloader. There are plenty in Play store. I dont know of any other way.

Believe me, I have search with no luck. Maybe I don't know the keywords or something. I had been looking for a week for an app or something to change app names with no result. Maybe I am an idiot, really, but believe me, I had like 100 questions and now I only had a few. A few I coulnd't find an answer to.

I think the problem your running into here is everything works differently than what you are use to in Apple products, most people here are Android addicts so they might not understand what cydia does, here is different its wide open instead of an app adding the correct files you do it yourself in adb and moding apks. There's a lot to read here if Apple was your starting point, there's much more that you can do with Android and everything you asked about is possible with some reading and time.

Please tell me: Are you adressing me with the flaming and telling people off.
Is it possible to pull the keyboard apk from Samsung galaxy s5 and install it in the HTC m8? My phone is rooted. I just love everything about the gs5 keyboard.

I'm no developer so I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing there is not, all that Samsung stuff usually relies pretty heavily on the TouchWiz framework, and it's been my experience that it's very difficult getting things running right.
Anyone else?

Go to the S5 international forum and download a stock rom. Unzip and navigate to system/app or it may just be in the app folder. Throw it on your phone and try it yourself.

Being pissy? Hell, I gave you the direct answer to the question you asked. I don't know if it would work or not, I was just trying to be helpful. Before you go slamming somebody why don't you read their post history, I don't troll people who ask questions, I try to help or point them in the right direction. I'm sure there are rules for decor for the board but **** the both of you. Next time search the entire forum and figure it out for yourself, douche.

Asking me to try something obvious is NOT really being "helpful". I can figure that myself without putting up a post! But I don't know what the effects would be (boot loop?, bricked phone?)... and I don't intend to find out the hard way.. I'm looking to see if someone has already tried it and know if works directly, or with certain tweaks... NOT looking for someone to tell me "hey why don't YOU try and find out".
So yes.. if you don't have anything constructive to offer..save yourself the trouble of posting nonsensical "advice".

You're hilarious. So you just want people to spoon feed you the answer and heaven forbid you try solving the problem yourself. I guess this is your personal help desk seeing how you don't want to try to help yourself and maybe learn something along the way. See how far that gets you around here. The funny thing is I was trying to help you out since I tried the exact "non-sensical" advice to install the aosp mail, sms, and calendar apps from another rom. Keep telling people their being pissy when they respond to your questions hot shot, you'll be real popular. This is a Q&A forum. People are allowed to post their questions without having to worry about people like you who say "this is no damn help desk" so if you feel that way about people who ask questions no matter how silly they might appear to you, then DON'T BOTHER REPLYING! I don't need a baby bottle. You seemed pissy and condescending with your replies. There are several ways you could have suggested it in a better way and I would have even followed your advice. But your tone seemed like you were asking me to do something that was bound to fail.
So no. The problem is with you. Anyways... Moving on.
I did do my research about this. Don't assume that I'm posting without doing my homework.
There is only one posting somewhere where a guy pulled the gs5 keyboard apk and made it into a flashable zip for note. And I did try that and it messed up my phone.
So yes. I know why I'm taking about.
Again. If you are meaning to help then be nicer with your tone.

I did love the S5 keyboard too. and I realize this isn't an answer to your question, but the SwiftKey Beta comes pretty darn close to satisfying what you might be missing. you should check it out.

Guys, please.. This isn't youtube. Lets try to be constructive instead of destructive. With that being said, back to the topic at hand...As someone that has worked extensively with samsung devices, i'm 99% sure it won't work as a previous commentor said, most if not all samsung specific apps require TW to run them. My guess is to start playing around with some of the diff key boards apps in the market . I'm sure if the S5 keyboard hasn't been replicated yet, it soon will be.
If you are to attempt to pull the apk from the stock S5 rom or if you happen to find it online, don't worry about trying it out. It'll either work or it won't
