Well.. I haven't this one untill now. But i want to know if there are any body has the same idea with me.
A simple cable adaptor will not work, because for that to work, Asus has to specially support outputting a compatible composite analogue signal through their HDMI connector, which I don't think they will. However, they have announced a standard VGA adaptor, with that you can connect an analog TV with a VGA input. If you have an even older TV, then you'll have to use a HDMI to RCA converter box like this.
Like above, you'll need an active digital to analog converter cable (it either is a box or requires some batteries with a bulky part in the middle), since the Transformer only outputs digital signal (speculated). With the VGA adapter becoming available, you can go VGA Adapter -> VGA to RCA and it should work (I'm assuming the VGA adapter will also output sound with RCA or 3.5mm jack)
there must be a build in analog signal within the HDMI output, because the adapter is only a cable. and i dont think there isnt any converter in the HDMI VGA cable.
i think these two will perfect match for our problem:
VGA to HDMI cable (offical Asus cable)

HDMI only has digital signals for both video and audio. You will require an active HDMI to Composite video box. Search Amazon for "HDMI to Composite video".... can't post links yet

Yes, a standard HDMI output is purely digital, but I think Transformer's HDMI output is designed to be reconfigured to output an analog VGA signal as well (a port is just a set of pins, you can output just about anything as long as the underlying hardware supports it; like some phones can output a HD video signal through a USB port etc.. ). I say this because photos of the announced mini HDMI to VGA adaptor is too small to be an active converter.
I have a hdmi to component and VGA converter at home,
So can test this for you tomorrow when I get home,
There isn't any reason why a adapter won't work,
To get a analogue signal then the VGA adapter for the transformer connects to the data port at the bottom,

well check today and hdmi to vga and component both worked,
my converter looks similar to this

but bought my one 2yrs back for £140
i also tried hdmi to component and vga using just the cables,
which didnt work due to hdcp....

I have an ASUS Transformer and a ShowWX Classic Laser Projector. The laser projector comes with a VGA dock that allows you to connect it to a VGA device. I purchased an ASUS branded adapter/converter for HDMI and VGA (specifically, mini HDMI to VGA). It connects to the device fine, and the projector seems to recognize that something is there...but it says unsupported video.
This may be because the resolutions are wrong. The projector supports WVGA (848x480) resolution. I think the transformer's resolution has to be set to this, and force it out of HDMI somehow. My device is rooted.
Any advice? Thanks.

In troubleshooting this, here's the next step I'd take:
1) Instead of connecting the projector, connect to a VGA monitor. Usually, VGA monitors have a bit more range in supported resolutions. If you can get a picture on the monitor, you are on the right track. You can fiddle with the resolution to get something compatible.
One thing that's important to remember is that converting HDMI to VGA is a signal-conversion process. HDMI is digital and VGA is analog. Converting from one to the other is not a simple physical thing like using a gender-changer, coupler, or y-adapter. The signal needs to be processed and converted. There is no such thing as a passive (i.e. unpowered) signal converter. Just because you can get a physical adapter that allows you to connect one to the other is most often NOT sufficient. Some laptops that have only HDMI also put out an analog signal on some of the HDMI pins. This is to be used in conjunction with a passive HDMI -> VGA adapter. Remember that this only works because the device has been built to support a passive adapter. To my knowledge, the Prime does not fall into this category.
micro hdmi to vga converter
i bought a Accell J129B-002B Micro HDMI (Type D) to VGA Adapter to use with a dell 1200mp for presentatins.my problem is that when i plug it the tablet shows down at the bar that hdmi is connected but nothing shows on my projector. i also try on my viesonic monitor and my vizio tv and nothing.however i am using a vga male to vga male cable since the accell vga is female.i am wondering if that is the problem and i need and vga male to vga male adapter instead. any help will be appreciated
No, you have the right cable. I just bought one myself, and used a long microHDMI to HDMI cable for a presentation. Did you remember to plug in the adapter to a USB port as well? The adapter requires power because it's doing a digital to analog conversion.
I'm using the official ASUS hdmi to vga adapter that works perfectly without issues. Used it for two presentations already. It was quite cheap as well (~25 Francs = ~25ish $)

Does it do anything about resolution adjustments? I would use the heck out of the vga adaptor if it could somehow convert the resolution to 1024x768.

yeah i tried connecting the usb to the dock and also using the power adapter that came with the converter. im wondering.... what did u use to plug it to the projector a male to male vga cable or a male to male vga adapter.because the accell converter is hdmi to micro and the other side is a female vga plug so it wont connect directly to the projector so i usea vga male to male cable from a computer.the hdmi part i tried using the one that came with the converter and a media bridge 6 ft micro to hdmi cable i own and nothing. when i plug the converter it turns a green light

you are on ics?maibe my adapter is broken.when i use the micro to hdmi to my tv or pc it works.so i know is not the cable.
i just pluged my computer to my hdmi monitor using the accell adapter from computer hdmi to monitor using vga and the accell converter worked.also my micro hdmi works when connected directly.so i guess the micro hdmi on the prime and the accell converter works.so im out of ideas as of why it dosent work.any help will be apreciated.

I think the prime will only output 720p (1280x720) but i havent checked since the new update .21 they seemed to have changed something. Will check later if there are more options now.
Its certainly possible though, this is only a matter of software. The tegra3 GPU is more or less a low energy version of what we have in our Desktop PCs. They can output all kinds of resolutions but you need a tool to tell it what to output.
[e] you now have some options if you want to scale or crop the image. No actual resolution change. One thing i noticed though you can output 3D content to a 3D tv or something if you have one, there are settings for this now This Tablet is so awesome^^
I saw does features.I wonder why everybody's hdmi to vga works but mine.

Having sort of the same issue, I have a microHDMI to HDMI, plugging the HDMI into a DVI-? adapter (the one without the pins around the horizontal plug inside the male end). Shows HDMI connected but nothing displays, and iirc the DVI is digital. I very well could be wrong but there's no way to power that adapter.
Haven't bought a VGA adapter for this reason ;p
I saw that adapter but I went VGA bcz of all the good feedback and this crap dosent work.I wonder if d Asus one is any better

The prime CAN and WILL output 1080p to HDMI if the source content supports it. If your video can play 1080 and the player supports it, it will work. Confirmed by dozens of people in various threads.
As to adjusting the VGA resolution... VGA is limited by the technology it uses, to a maximum resolution of around 800x600 with limited colors (think 16 bit colors). With the color depth were used to you are limited to around 640×480. Nothing i have found anywhere has suggested that they can use standard VGA to output anything higher. Even HD video players (hell, a blueray player) with a VGA connection on it is only outputting at 640x480. Limited by the technology in the cable and the architechecture of the cable. Keeping in mind, VGA is ~30 years old, older than most of the people on the forum i dare say
Long story short: no VGA adapter i know of will do anything higher than 640x480. Use HDMI or DVI for higher resolution.
I guess mine is bad or something,so bottom line is im going to return this thing and maibe by the asus one or something else.
I have to beg to differ, pileot. I'm an A/V tech, and I have used VGA cables for much higher resolutions than you mentioned. As I said before, 1024x768 is standard resolution for most LCD projectors, and VGA cables have no problem passing that signal.

I think it may be helpful to clarify some terminology here. "VGA" was first introduced on the IBM PS/2 back in the late '80s, but in modern computer terminology it has come to mean two different things: a video resolution of 640 by 480 pixels, or the 15-pin D-sub connector designed to carry that signal. If we're taking about hardware, then we're referring to the latter. So, I have the Asus VGA adapter connected to my Prime, and I have a 22" Dell monitor connected to that. The Prime's screen is displayed on the monitor at a resolution of 1280 by 720. If I plug that same monitor into a computer using the same 15-pin D-sub cable, it can handle a resolution of up to 1680 by 1050. If I connect my Prime to my flatscreen TV at home with an HDMI cable, I can get even higher resolutions, up to full 1080p HD. So, the VGA adapter does seem to limit the output resolution to a degree, but 720p HD still looks pretty decent. It would be interesting to try a micro-HDMI to DVI adapter, and see if you could get full 1080p HD that way. Since HDMI and DVI signals are electrically compatible (no conversion required), it should work.

+1. I'm using monitors at 1920x1080 with VGA, I even had my 360 outputting 1080p and 1080i using the VGA cable to my television.
VGA supports high resolution, it's difference is that it's an analog signal and not digital

Lol, guess were both right, in a way, depending on how you look at it. Thanks for the education!
Theroetically, DVI and HDMI should both do 1080p no problem. In fact you can get HDMI to DVI cables usually used from going from a computer into a tv... only issue is it does not pass through the sound.
well i went a head and contact accell and they told me to return the unit as it seems is defective.i went and bought the asus micro to vga converter and it worked right away when plugged in.so it seems that the accell converter was not working from micro hdmi to vga but from hdmi to vga was.im happy since i need it for tonight for a church presentation.so amazon here it goes back this accell defective thing.
Ok so I got this point of view protab 2 xxl this week, so far very nice. One issue though, when I use the mini hdmi to hdmi cable on a HD tv it works, but when I use Mini HDMI to HDMI to DVI female on a normal lcd screen without HDMI inputs nothing happens. Can this be because the resolution on the tab is to high for the LCD screen? If so is there a app I can use to lower the resolution on the tab to make it work with a std LCD VGA screen?
I just purchased the official Samsung Galaxy S3 11-pin MHL to HDTV adapter from Samsung.com as a replacement for the Allshare cast dongle, because the Allshare dongle only supports 720p output.
However, when I hooked the wired MHL dongle up to my GS3 and Vizio VW42L LCD TV, it was still outputting at 720p.
So, I called Samsung mobile support and bounced around from department to department for an hour. During the call, I was told:
-It's my TV that isn't compatible. (Although my Xbox360 and cable box both output at 1080p)
-It will only display 1080p when playing back 1080p media. (I test-recorded a 1920x1080 video on the phone and playback was still at 720p)
And finally, when my request was "escalated" to their higher support level:
-The GS3 will only output 1080p video to Samsung TVs.
Um...WTF? Is that the truth?
Samsung's own site says both "HDTV Universal Adapter" and "1080p" in the specs for the 11-pin dongle. Go to Samsung's support page and search for part number EPL-3FHUBEGSTA to see for yourself.
Has anyone else been able to output 1080p video with the OEM 11-pin dongle to a non-Samsung TV?
If the "compatibility" issue for non-Samsung TVs is accurate, doesn't their page for the S3 11-pin dongle constitute false (or at the very least, misleading) advertising?
Uhm. Isn't the Vizio VW42L a 720p tv? IIRC, its resolution is 1366x768.

Nope. Like I said, I have other HDMI inputs (Xbox 360, HD cable box, and a desktop computer set at 1920x1080 resolution) that all display correctly at 1080p.
I get 1080I on my 55" sony lcd and my 24" dell monitor, but no 1080P I rather have 720P than 1080I, but i cannot change it :crying:
