So i was having the ghost touch issues on my phone for the past 2 weeks and thought maybe just to take it into sprint. So i had to unroot, RUU, etc and it was having the same issues. Took it into sprint and they said they ran diagnostics on it and nothing was wrong but when i got home it was doing the same thing. But now im updated on 2.89 and HBoot 1.58 and want to know how to root, s-on or s-off doesnt matter, and also downgrade so i can got back to aosp ROMs or Mazda's and also sense ROMs. So if anyone can help it wuld be greatly appreciated. P.S Yes i've searched this topic and it just came up with a lot of different pages and methods so telling me to search before asking isnt necessary.

You can try my guide which was designed to get you from any build with S-ON to a rooted, S-OFF Sprint ICS configuration as easily as possible. You can probably skip the first step, which is flashing the 2.89.651.2 RUU.exe, since it sounds like they did that already when they worked on your phone.
If they did the OTA instead you could have problems with the HTC unlock, so if that happens just go back and flash the RUU.exe.
Good luck!

Yes. I've never heard of phone that was damaged by it. The SD card may get corrupted but that can always be reformatted.

Unable to downgrade HBOOT 1.53.0007 to 1.49.0007
Hi, yesterday I decided to "upgrade" my sister's HTC EVO3D GSM to make unlock, root...also S-OFF if needed to flash any ROM, but it was the first time i was flashing EVO3D so it was whole day I sit at the computer watchin&reading tutorials and this forum before I could do anything...finally i partially succed, I made unlock by HTCdev method, flashed recovery via fastboot...flashed ROM from recovery, but I wanted to install CM9 ROM by agrabren and surely it wasnt working, because the phone is no HBOOT 1.53.0007...
So for the instance, the phone:
Is HTC EVO3D GSM
was on stock ICS 4.0.3 OTA rom
HBOOT 1.53.0007 S-ON
UNLOCKED S-ON by htcdev method
followed this thread to root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28106291 and flash ROM
Then it's working on ICS NonSense® 4.0
but i want to try CM9/10/AOKP ROMs so i realized i need to downgrade HBOOT to 1.49.0007 and get revolutionary S-OFF so i tried to follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1471246
The first method copying mmcblk0p31.img to sdcard and here im stuck....I dont understand why, but the command "adb shell dd....." copies mmcblk0p31 file of 16kB size and total empty content, so I cant change any version to 1.20.720.1 and cant downgrade....
So how to solve this problem? Is it cause that first I need to get hboot 1.53 S-OFF?
Thanks for the reply...
//Im sorry my post is also located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833367 where is I think better place for it and I didnt find how to delete it from here...

So someone mentioned in a thread I read that they were on hboot 1.4 with s-off and they were having issues (that aren't important to the topic of this thread) so they used a 2.08 RUU to return to stock, which flashed hboot 1.5 onto their phone. This person said they checked their bootloader and saw that it was indeed hboot 1.5, then they RUU'd back to an older stock ROM and their bootloader was hboot 1.4.
So, was this workaround for being able to Revolutionary unlock an HTC Evo 3D common knowledge before and it's old news now, or had nobody thought of doing this earlier to get rid of hboot 1.5? I was one of the lucky ones who first got my 3vo less than a month ago, yet it came with hboot 1.3 (now it's on the eng bootloader of course ). so I'm too afraid of losing my revolutionary root to try this myself, but I figured I'd at least put this out there in its own thread so that all you adventurous types stuck with hboot 1.5 can try this out and report your findings.
NOTE: as stated before, I did not try this myself and the person who said they tried this did not prove it to me or anyone else, they merely stated it and since this is the internet, I go by "pics or it didn't happen" if information comes from an untrusted source. I'm not responsible for bricks and impregnation of your daughter(s), and all that other stuff devs usually claim no responsibility for in their disclaimers.

Does that apply even if you're using an RUU? I knew you couldn't change the bootloader if you tried to flash using fastboot, but I didn't remember seeing anything about not being able to through RUU (though I guess I never saw anything that said you could through RUU either...)

Well I should've known it was too good to be true, that you could get to an old bootloader through an RUU. Thanks to both of you for the quick and helpful responses.

Are you able to boot into bootloader? If so, boot into bootloader and connect to your computer. You can then push a recovery using adb (I like 4ext, see my signature).
I've searched the internet to find out the this hboot 1.5 issue is, and can't find squat. So can someone tell me what problem is there with hboot 1.5 and how to tell if it applies to me, or at least point me in the right direction. Also please note, I have already managed to root my HTC evo 3d with fastboot, and have the revolutionairy recovery but I haven't flashed any new roms yet and I won't until I find out what hboot is.
Edit: Figures after I post I find some info, okay So I know now I have hboot 1.5 and s-on, however the guide I followed said s-on doesn't matter. any thoughts?
Edit: I have revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4 and I used this to flash super user in the guide, and I can back up my rom and mount things etc.

From everything I've read, s-on does not play well with the ics roms. I recommend you get s-off by downgrading to 1.4 or using the wire trick.

I have started searching and am having a hard time finding exactly what I need. Anyway, I haven't used my Rezound since I got my S3 so I am not really up to speed on where the Rezound is in terms of OTA updates and whatnot. Right now my Rezound is S-Off on a engineering hboot (I believe) and rooted, but it was stock otherwise (up until I stopped using it).
I would like to get it back to 100% stock (other than S-Off, I will leave that as is for now). What is the easiest way to get there? I am assuming flashing an RUU of the latest stock build? If so, what is the latest stock build that I would get if I re-activated the phone and updated it (meaning I don't want any leaks or anything).
Also, it has been so long since I did any flashing on the phone, but what is the easiest way to flash a RUU (since I have never done that). And can I just flash the latest RUU without flashing anything else first?
Thanks, and sorry for all of the noob questions.

Find the lastest RUU. I know its on android police. Place the file on the root of your SD card, check md5, rename to ph98img.zip, boot into bootloader and let it do its thing. You should be up to date.

Thanks! Yea, I just found it on android police. I am assuming it won't wipe the SD card or anything right? Since I am S-OFF I don't have to worry about re-locking correct?
Also, will that RUU get it back to the point where someone could get the OTA's and everything as if it was 100% stock with S-ON?
EDIT: How come that 4.03.605.2 isn't listed on HTC website yet? Has it not been pushed out yet? The one listed on their site is the 3.14.605.12

Yes , running the RUU will not effect s-off status nor your bootloader locked status.
not to hijack the thread....but I have a question that relates to getting back to stock. I am running business sense, with the OTA. I would like to get the other global OTA.. I am s on. How do I go about doing that?
flash stock recovery
relock
run which RUU? the newest one is a PH file on android police
unlock
flash amon ra
flash new rom
does that sound right?
the part that I am questioning is the fact the global RUU is a PH file. But it says I have to be completly back to stock and locked.
any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

I did s-off procedure a few months ago. it took several hours and kept failing. I used a large insulated paperclip with the insulating material removed from each end for good electrical contact.
What I had been doing wrong was not keeping the wire nice and straight in the hole. when the wire is not straight, it will not make good electrical contact with whatever is directly beneath the hole.
I just thought I'd share this tip in case it helps others.
regards,
Howard
p.s. There is no need to install the jbear modified hboot if you are uncomfortably with it. Installing the modified hboot is optional at the end of the s-off procedure. You will still have benefits of s-off with a htcdev unlocked bootloader while using a stock unlocked hboot. For example one can flash kernels via fastboot flash command with a stock hboot. s-off and jbear modified hboot are two separate modifications to the phone.

actually, on a stock, locked HBoot, you CAN'T use any fastboot commands. That's why it's highly recommended to install the JBear HBoot, plus it gives you an easy option to do it and it does it without the user having to do anything

There is no RUU available yet that will work with the 2.95 update installed which is apparently how you go the phone. You can either get S-OFF and then flash the original RUU and take the two OTA updates, or try flashing one of the stock ROM's in this post. If you want to go back to almost 100% stock and unrooted you will need to flash the unrooted version of the stock ROM and then flash the stock recovery.
The one thing that won't be stock in that scenario is the bootloader since if you lock it the status will show "relocked" rhater than "locked".

Getting S-OFF with hboot 1.58 installed is still uncharted territory for VM users. I suggest you check out the related threads in this forum and post there for help since there are a lot of Evo V 4G users there that can help. I flashed viper Rom (don't remember which one) and that gave me stock kernel. Then, I downloaded a .zip file with the drivers to the phone and used the jbear program to s-off. Then , I put 1.04.200 hboot and used the ruu to bring me back to stock. Updated my phone and I am all good. Well, we already have guides on both XDA and androidforums.com and the unlimited.io developers that created JuopunutBear have gotten very sensitive about having instructions posted in other places.
I'm curious how you did the wire trick since the Windows downloads are no longer on the unlimited.io website. Did you use an existing guide? At this point we are just trying to figure out what is the best version of JBear to use after VM users have installed the March OTA and have hboot 1.58.

Yea, just for the jbear portion. I'd appreciate it if you can zip it up and upload it to dropbox or similar and PM the link to me.
As I said, at this point we are just trying to determine which jbear version works best with the Evo V updated to the March OTA and hboot 1.58. If the most effective process warrants a new guide I will be happy to work with you on that.

my problem is i just updated to twrp 2.7.0.1 and no everytime i exit the recovery it says theres no op or superuser installed. its funny cus i do and it boots up normal. please help me its annoying and scary at the same time thanks. on htc evo 4g lte rooted and unlocked s-on with meanbean 3.9. i wanted to add i just tried to flash viper rom and it has the aroma installer 2.0 and says the kernal wasnt installed. so im basically stuck on meanbean.
Meanbean is one of the only ROMs you can flash s-on without fastboot flashing the kernel separately through the bootloader.
S-on is doing what it's supposed to. Meanbean somehow maintained its HTC signature, so the phone doesn't know that it's supposed to try to fix it.
Get s-off. Also consider running the ruu to update to the new partition layout.

thank you i actually just fixed it. i had to downgrade trwp. twrp2 was bad. maybe a bad dl. i know i have to flash the boot.img in fb while s-on. the weird thing was i couldnt make a backup or even mount via twrp. so i figured that was it. now you say to get s-off, well i need help with that. i have hboot 2.9 (0830) and i tried moonshines s-off and it didnt work it always says adb connection failed and yes usb debugging was enabled. what would you suggest to get s-off on my htc evo 4g lte. ive searched and read. alot of programs only use linux. im on win 7 and live cd was a pain. if you could help with that i would appreciate it.

You can try Firewater for Hboot 2.09.
I'd recommend running the newest RUU to update to 2.10, then unlocking, rooting and running rumrunner. That seems to be the way most people are getting s-off nowadays without running into hassles (you'll find a lot of threads where people on 2.09 and such having random issues trying to gain s-off, although it is very doable)
