Nightly Builds Cyanogenmod - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have the Stock software atm on my Galaxy S III. I was planning to get Cyanogenmod 10, but I see that it is nightly builds.
I was wondering how nightly builds work? Does that mean that everyday you have to update your phone? Also, doing so, will you have to wipe your phone with every build?
If I decide to wait for a stable Cyanogenmod 10 instead of using the nightly builds, and I use Cyanogenmod 9, then want to re-flash to Cyanogenmod 10 would I have to wipe? I know that I can use titanium backup to backup my apps, I am just curious.

CM10 is amazing and quite stable. You don't need to update everyday though if you do you don't need to wipe(though it's better if you wipe in some cases). Stable CM10 is going to take alot of time. CM9-->CM10 is better with wipe.
My advice to you just flash CM10 and update when you want to the latest nightly.

If I have one of the nightly builds already, all I would need to do is go into CWM Recovery and flash the new build. And it wouldn't erase anything on my phone, all it will do is update the software files of CyanogenMod 10. Is this correct?

Yes correct, just wipe cache and dalvik cache and flash the update. You also don`t have to reinstall google apps every time you flash.

Would I just download the nightly build daily from the Cyanogenmod website? Or is there other places I can download it easier from?

Bookmark this : http://get.cm/?device=i9300
In fact, I believe you don't even have to wipe cache as it automatically wiped by the script when you flash CM10..

Here is the link mate http://get.cm/?device=i9300. If you have Rom Manager Premium the update will be downloaded automaticly.

Thanks guys ^ ^ Just what I needed. I'll try flashing the nightlies after I fix my CMW problem with extsdcard, which is at CWM Recovery ExtSDCard Problem if you can help.
Oh and I just realized from the links that you 2 have linked me to. I believe that I have a SGH-T999 since I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S III (USA) and on that link, it says i9300 which is the international one. Would it still works on a SGH-T999?
Edit: Nevermind, I think I found the T-Mobile US one. Samsung Galaxy S III (TMUS) - d2tmo. I got it from Cyanogenmod Devices Overview.

No it will not, go to the US T-Mobile forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1706, read this first http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756332 and do not flash anything from here.

Oh… I did not realized that I have been posted in the international forum. Thank you for your help/information though, it was useful nonetheless.

Hi mate, I had installed directly cm10 nightly builds on my galxy s3 international version and i found that there is a battery drainage in cm10 nightly build. usually my mobiles battery life is 15hours (3g on). but i found that in cm10 its only 8hours or even less. is there any solution for this? you are also facing the same issue?

i got CM10 on my GS2 and it works great.
I only wonder, if i use the cynogen updater to update the nightly. do i need to run every single update between my current version and the newest. or do i only need the latest?

How can I duplicate a nightly build? Is there a manifest included in the zip of the build that I can copy into my build tree somewhere? I ask because my local build after repo sync does NOT succeed, whereas it previously did work.

[Q] Galaxy S2 GT-I9100, is this the correct rom for me?

I am new to the rooting / rom / kernel game and done some research. I am just wanting to double check to make sure this is the correct one for me.
This is the rom I am wanting to use: [ROM][4.2.1][19/01]Slim Bean - I9100 [RC1]
My phone is rooted and I have done my rom backup and titanium backup of "All user apps + system data".
I just want to make sure this is the correct rom for my phone so I don't brick the damn thing lol.
My Model is:GT-I9100Android Version:4.0.3Baseband Version:I9100XXLPSKernel Version:[email protected] #3
yes, that rom will work.
be advised since they are starting with a new base, you may find it full of bugs and FC.

Why not try CM9 (ICS) or CM10 (JB 4.1.2) or CM10.1 (JB 4.2.1). CM10 looks like stock Android but has some good tweaks. Alternatively if you would prefer as close as stock as possible try the rom you mentioned but get previous base version until they release final of JB base.
When you restore from Titanium its not "recommended" to restore the data as well if you have changed android versions. (although i generally ignore that advice)
the cm10 nightly from 22nd installed on my new s2 a breeze, i just installed a non stock kernel first.
I went ahead and installed their 3.1 version and had all kinds of bugs, so I went ahead and flashed the 4.2.1 version. Everything works great except my damn clock keeps restarting. I get a message "Clock has stopped" and then it resets to a random time. Then I reboot and it grabs my time from my provider again....
Anyone have any idea?

Do you know why stable releases disappeared from get.cm/?device=i9100 and why the last stable is 9.1 in get.cm/?device=galaxys2 ? (sorry I cannot post links)

Did you look for people with the same problem(s) as you in the rom-thread? If not, you can better ask there in the specific thread.

Because CM9.1 was their most recent stable version. CM10 was never really finished and the development went on to CM10.1, which is still 'under construction'

Cm10.2 updating question

Is it safe to update the official cm 10.2 nightlights through cm updater? Just wondering because I do not want to do a full wipe. I also don't want to test and then have it mess up and do a full wipe because of it lol.

All CM updater does it notify you of an update and download it for you. You only need to do a full wipe if the developer has explicitly stated to do so, otherwise as always run a nandroid before flashing the update.
EDIT: Because the official CM is still running in to bugs I suggest looking through the last few pages of the thread to make sure everything's alright with the latest nightly.

Thanks, doesn't seem like it was so simple. I had tried that many a times before posting this on to the forum. When I try to install CM10.2 again through CWM, it errors out with (Status 7) error. I did a Wipe/Factory Data Reset, Wipe Dalvik Cache and format system. Tried again but the same error re-appeared (status 7).
So I had to reinstall CM11 and GAPPS for CM11 again to make the phone work with some old bugs again . Camera not working, lag in screen rotation, stock browser not working etc.,
Thanks

status 7 it's cause there's something wrong on the updater script in the Rom build, check the Rom Thread that you've download

Thanks, not sure on what the issue with the Rom could be. I have rooted the device and then installed Blazing Kernel V3 with CWM 6.
Before I decided to upgrade my phone to experimental CM11, I used to apply all CM10.2 Nightlies without any issues.
I have tried to install even CM10.1 stable release through CWM v.6 and the same error comes up.
Further, I have always downloaded ROM's from download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=i9100g or through the CMupdater in the phone.
Can you please let me know, what version of Blazing Kernel should I using on GT-i9100G and how do I flash it safely without fearing of the "Sleep of death" happening.
Thank you.

Flashing CM after HTC's official 4.3 update.

I am having a really hard time with my evo lte!
Problem:
I had CM nighties running prior to downloading and using the official HTC RUU for sense 5 and android 4.3.
I ran the RUU and everything was fine, my antennas, bootloader, etc updated.
I decided to go back to CM so I rooted (attempted to later you will find out what went wrong) and installed CWM (latest one 6.0.4.6). I downloaded a cm rom and flashed it with the latest Gapps but every time I flash CM's nightly, it fails. I factory reset and rebooted and it asked me if I wanted to root? <--- think the problem is there... But anyway, I can flash Gapps fine but not CM's roms. I tried stable nightlies and different ones.
Any ideas?

You must flash a version with updated partition support as the 4.3 update changed everything. CM nightlies do not support this, they only work with those who have no updated to the new format that came with 4.3. You'll need to get a build with the support commit included. Fairly easy to do yourself if you have the time and storage on your hard drive.

Thanks for the speedy reply! Quick question, does this mean I need to find an older RUU and use it on my phone before I reroot and try again? Also if you do not mind, can you post quick steps to doing this maybe with links?
The help is greatly appreciated! This is my daily driver phone.

If you want to flash nightlies, you will have to RUU back to an older version. You'll have to run the RUU and go through all the steps again, yes. An alternative is to use ROMs that have been updated to support the new partitions. I believe CaptainThrowback has a list in Android Development that lists all the builds that support. Not included in the list is Pac-Rom which can be found in Original Android Development.

[Q] Will CM work with new partitions post HTC RUU 2013

You guys have any idea if CM will start making nightlies and roms in general for Jewel post RUU that HTC officially launched for Android 4.3 and Sense 5?
I am aware that using the RUU on the device will update radios, bootloader, etc and partitions. The existing CMs (I have tried nightlies) don't flash because of different partitions.
GoblinZ, here on XDA, uploads the nightlies for CM with the modified partitions and this leads me to my second question. Every time I flash one of his roms of CM (unofficial) does that mean if I want to update then I need to factory reset and install rom from recovery? I cannot use the CM updater in the settings menu because it is unofficial right?
Whoever can help, thanks very much! I am new but feel welcome!

In order to go from that new format CM I built to an official cyanogenmod build on the old format, you would need an RUU to go back to the old format...this alone would require a clean flash (ie you would lose your data). I built this as a stop gap for people who would like to still use an updated CM on the new format.
