[Q] Need advice on app development - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, so I have this idea for an app based around texting.
The basic jist of the app would allow a person with no signal or bars from there cellular service to use their wireless internet to send and recieve text messages. However, I want to do this where the user will be able to send and receive text messages using their own phone number. I would obviously have o run a service on a server to relay the text to the provider. I also, would like to allow non-rooted and non-jailbroken Iphone's to use the app.
If I were relate this app with another app I would say it would be similar to Apple's imessage. However, it will be used cross carrier.
Is this possible? What are the obstacles? Any suggestions?
Thank you

It won't work without a signal. Other than that, u shouldn't have a problem.

Thank you,
but, do you mean a cell signal or Wifi signal?

As long as u use cell or WiFi u will be OK. There just might be some delay through WiFi.

WiFi Calling handle Texts?

Does the WiFi Calling app also handle text messages?
Yes

Confirmed.
I use WiFi Calling at one of the buildings at work due to lack of service.
Phone operates no differently than normal. Texts and voice just fine.
It does need to be a solid wifi signal to use wifi calling though...

[View] phone outside US?

I got my view just the otherday, but soon realised that there is no sim-card slot on this baby.. looked it up, and yes... Sprint doesent have sims..
Is there anyway I can use this baby gal as a phone? Or at lease connect to 3g?
The last one is more interesting...
No, no way.
Damn...was hoping to get it to work...
Another question then...
How do I make it more international? It's too much tailored to US. I can't even change to Swedish keyboard or time?!

Oh and I also found this: https://market.android.com/details?...vbS5hbmRyb2lkLmlucHV0bWV0aG9kLm5vcndlZ2lhbiJd

Thanks a lot. I was more thinking of a HTC stock keyboard, but hey... I guess its better than nothing

[Q] WiFi Calling/ texting

i have bad service where im at and it takes hours for me to get text. on my sensation when i was on T-mo i could do it over wifi. any help?
Google voice can do texting over wifi and calling but I don't know how the calling part works but for texting it will do what you want over WiFi.

I would also love to know if there's any way to text/voice call over wifi, since I never get signal at a certain place. I have to walk around the building like an idiot looking for signal.
However, I'm with Rogers in Canada, and Google Voice doesn't work here. Any ideas?
There may be something else that can do that through some tweaks. I'm not sure what tho... Google for some "alternatives to Google voice"

you could you use textfree for text I believe it works with wifi...
You'll have to do this:

Works for the 3d too. You'll lose mms though.

I've heard from a people on Sprintusers that GV now supports MMS.
I've used and tried GrooveIP with some success, but the call quality has been very inconsistent, even within the same call. I haven't tried since it was updated, so perhaps it's gotten better. You might want to give it a try and see how it works for you.

Lost Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0

So guys, I lost my Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 inside my house somewhere and I cannot find it. I know the GPS is on and the device is on with little battery. Is there any way I can find it? My Google account is on it so is there anyway I can find it with GPS? BTW, I do not have any texting apps on it. Any help? Thanks

You should call on police, and tell them, you have got a drags, they will give you hard revision!! And you will get your desired sgp!!
Have you turned on wifi before you lost?

Use your router to locate him, there should be singals of all devices connected to the router, so, you can easily locate SGP5

You can't use GPS to find it considering the accuracy probably spans the entirety of your home. You may be able to locate it with wireless information from your router. I'd hurry though in the case that your battery drains quickly with WiFi always on.
Worst case, you'll come across it while cleaning or just retrace your steps to when you last had it.
Well guys, I found it using using the Plan B app from Lookout Security. It connected to my Google account and found where the location was in my house. Any suggestions on how I can be prepared next time? Like a backup GPS?

you can get a communicator like skype, parlingo etc. and if you lost again, you will be able to locate SGP with one call/massage to SGP.
you cant use GPS, coz accuracy of GPS is nearly of 15m-10m,
you can use also a spectrum analyser or a wifi device with monitor mode on, but the first cost ~600$, the second is hard to do, those two need to have wifi turned on SGP.
A couple of options:
You could install skype, or some other app that lets you receive calls, messages, or whatever over wi-fi. Configure the app with an audible alert when a call is received, and then just call your player when you lose it.
Configure the email client to play an alert sound when a new email is received, and email yourself when you need to find your phone
Download google voice and get a free phone number you can text from your computer or phone. Couple it with groove ip app and you have a free wi fi phone service. I use it all the time.
OK, Thanks Guys!

I know it's bad form to resurrect old threads, but I noticed an app on Google Play apparently made for this exact situation. it's called "Wheres My Droid" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alienmanfc6.wheresmyandroid)
install app androidlost....it is not using any memory because its using google account and app after first time doesnt need to be even started as any process normal or background...and then go to www.androidlost.com ..log with your google id and you can do what ever comes to your mind with device remotely.I find my phone and tablet with that 10 times by now or scare my friend who use it because you can even play police siren remotey on device. And this free app is also awsome for spying your girlfriend if she has android phone..mine have no idea that i read all here messages and now who calls here and who she calls..but for now she is good girl

I can understand that. Seeing as how we don't have root yet, I cannot tell you in-depth way around to reset app and wifi calling. Only way I can think is that app has faulty install or something obviously broke in running. For temp, have you restarted the device then tried? How good is location/satellite service (GPS only, battery saver)? If so, I would recommend (sadly) a factory reset and redo the wifi calling. If something still broke and error still persists, then maybe faulty hardware at this point. I had to factory reset first day I got it due to issue with brightness not sensing correctly. Everything works now. Ill keep looking at it but for now, only way is through restriction by phone not root yet.
That's the thing haha to have a solution before I have to FR the device. GPS is good in this area maybe is address...

I know, no root limits answers we can give obviously haha. Try address but I don't think that would cause FC in location query. The app should have just told you no good, not FC. That's why I can see this is frustrating haha. I have no FC and could not reproduce by wrong address and such. Ill keep looking.
Yeah that's exactly how I feel... Frustrated. FC every time when authenticating

Sorry to hear. That's all I got now since no root to edit other files. I'd just try another wifi if you can and see if it happens again. If so, no dice, sounds like FR to resolve only way.
I'll be doing some changes like moving from this area to see if it is the gps or the hardware. The last thing I'll do is the reset tho.

I am wondering the same thing. That notification drives me crazy. I seem to be having issues receiving some calls. For some reason the phone will ring in wifi calling and show who is calling but no one is there one I answer. The other person tells me it rings but then goes straight to voice mail.

It is real annoying when it happens. I shut it off for now because I didn't really need it on. I get pretty good signal but it seems to be in and out at work sometimes so I liked having it on. But it does me no good if almost every call I get does that. I assume they are working out the bugs in it.

WiFi calling works fine for me but not for texting. Ill have to retry to send the text a few times before it goes through. Also my mobile signal drops to no bars when WiFi is on, and returns when i turn it off.

Yup. I used wifi calling all day yesterday... It definitely helps when making a call.. But i lose all my bars and cannot receive calls. I confirmed this and had my wife try calling me with different configurations in different parts of the house. I've posted on the sprint forums to see what word I can get on this...
