New Rezound now I need protection! - HTC Rezound

NO not THAT type of protection  Ordered my new Rezound today and am looking for a good screen protector, case, etc. I have done a little searching on topic and I see alot of "I wish they made this for the Rezound" and not many consistent reviews. I am a mechanic and with my old DINC I had the issue with metal shavings even if I put in a small ziplock bag. Anyone have a good cheap fix to this problem so I don't immediately screw my new phone? I have found: CASE and PROTECTOR that I like so far. The realook seemed to be on par or similar to the steinheils people seem to worship. thanks in advance

screen protector
I work in a machine shop, so i get shavings as well
On my BB the chips would get into the speaker and cause problems
I use best skins ever protector without any case and have not had problems.
easy install, smooth feel works great
http://www.bestskinsever.com/htc-rezound-skin

that's interesting, is it just a plastic shield for front and back?

If bulk is not an issue, I'd suggest getting the Otterbox Defender case. I has a built-in screen protector and will make it pretty hard to damage your new phone. Check them out here....

By the way, you can find them cheaper on Amazon or Ebay. I have no affiliation with any of the companies mentioned in this post.

I agree with mefloump, I just purchased the Otterbox Defender and it works great. I highly recommend it.

I've been looking at it too. I have someone else with one on an iphone. Nice cases.

Check out the ZaggShield. Definitely my favorite.

will def give those a look at. I was a little concerned about "bulk" how bulky is it? Like I keep my phone in my pocket (non saggy/baggy) am I going to have problems fishing it out? lol

IMO, I don't think you will be able to get it in your pocket with the defender case. It comes with a holster though. Personally I use the body glove case because it is slim fitting.

Just ordered a seidio surface case from amazon I'll let you know how it is. I wanted protection without adding to much bulk and it was the nicest one I found.

your best bet is zagg! order online for 16 or 17 buck + shipping, but it is a lifetime replacement if anything happens to it

Not sure if it was suggested but get the Zagg screen protector and pop out the screen protector that comes with the Defender case. You'll be pretty protected.
Phones: HTC Droid Incredible // HTC Rezound (current)

I would look into ghost armor if I was you. They are the best screen protection I have ever found but I wouldnt order one and put it on yourself, they put it in a littlte hot box to cook it to the screen. Amazing feel, almost cant tell its there, and they do a little demo by intentionally scratching it with car keys and what not with no damage.

I've been pretty happy with tpu cases, very thin yet durable. I've actually dropped it a few times with no problems. And to top it all off I just got one off eBay for about $2.. I also use the cheap screen protectors because they feel smooth and if I scratch them it's not the end of the world.

Thats funny you say that. I am a field tech with Yale, the yellow forklift company, and thats actually what I did too for the first couple of months of owning the Rezound. I carried that sucker around everywhere with it inside of one of those little parts ziplock type bags from work.

Best Cases

Can you guys give me any recommendations on any good strong cases and screen protectors, that will stay on even if they are dropped. A link to the website would be good also. I was thinking of getting a screen protector that is like a mirror, where you can see yourself when the phone is not on.
Thanks a lot!
In my opinion, the otterbox is the best. theres a whole thread in this section about them. I've had mine for a while and its held up pretty well. I dropped it twice already and nothing happened to the phone or case. The case didn't even come apart at all.
here is a link to the case

just got my otterbox today. FREAKING LOVE IT.
You don't get that sound from the case moving around while you're holding your phone.
It's really snug, thinner than other cases. And it's tough.

Yup. Otterbox +1. My wife bought the Body Glove type one from T-mo 2 days after she got her slide and lost the front cover 2 days after that. The Otterbox uses thinner but slightly bigger tabs with better plastic. The tabs don't inhibit the slide action as much, grip better because of the larger surface area, and are stronger because the plastic isn't as brittle.
The only downside is that it was a little bit harder to put on than the Body Glove one, but it only took a few minutes of being patient and attentive to detail.
Body Glove Kickstand Case - deceased
I had the Body Glove case w/kickstand on my phone... it worked well for me until I needed to open up my back cover. One removal was all it took and one of the tabs was gone. I took my time and was gentle with it as well.. the tab just seemed a little too brittle for any removal/reinstall once it was initially installed. I don't have a case on it now, but am interested in the Otterbox one that seems pretty highly praised.

With the otterbox I only had to take it off a couple times, the battery door came with it instead lol. I have no idea how to take it off without feeling like I'm breaking the phone.
I just got my Otterbox case yesterday. I like it, sturdy and durable. I bought it from Amazon for a nice price. I just don't understand why phone cases don't have clips or something to put them on your waist. I don't put phones in my pockets much since I usually have stuff in them.
I might have to get a OtterBox now... The only thing keeping me is a case makes it feel quite bulky. If I can get passed that then I'm sold after hearing so much praise about the OtterBox.

I'm not a big fan of mirrored screen protectors. From what I've seen, they really alter the way the screen looks when it's actually on, and I don't think it's worth the mirror effect. There may be some which do not do this, but I'm yet to see one.

I have a mirrored screen protector and it really does alter the refraction of colors. It is not unbarable, but I have ordered a clear one. An added note: the mirrored screen protector requires you to brighten your display more and thus use more battery. If you still want a mirrored protector go to wirelessemporium.com. like 6 bucks and free shipping.

Best case?

I just got a GS2 and trying to decide whether or not to get a case. Do you guys suggest getting one for added protection from drops?
EDIT: Ok, clearly a case is necessary, but which one? I have an Otterbox Commuter on my iPhone and dig the feel and durability. I see many complaints about SG2 cases not fitting or not having the right holes. Which is the best case in terms of fit, durability, and feel?
I definitely would. Protects from scratches, marks, and dust. I wouldnt count on it to protect from a normal drop though. I would suggest the Otterbox Commuter (make sure its the ATT i-777 version)
It's a $500+ phone you have. If you're ok with it breaking, then go without a case.
That's not saying it will break. There are plenty of stories about how well this phone does when dropped.
But it's the same reason people wear seat belts. 99% of the time they don't do much. But that 1% when you're in an accident, you're really happy you had it on.
It only takes one bad drop to ruin your phone. And screens for samsung devices are super expensive.

Are you sure that Otterbox makes a case for the AT&T version? I checked around and only found a Commuter for International version.
I have an Otterbox Commuter now for my iPhone and love it.
They just released an att version for the otterbox commuter. I have the international and its fits flawlessly. The top Mic cut out is off but the call quality is still the same. Paid 20 bucks on Amazon for it

This is going to depend a lot on how you use your phone. I am using the casemate barely there which provides a moderate level of drop protection while maintaining the slim profile and light feel that I really love about the Galaxy phones. But when I need to travel for work I put on the Ballistic case which has huge rubber corners and feels indestructible which is nice when you are moving around a lot and adding a much greater risk of dropping your phone. The otterbox commuter is a decent case, my wife has one on her iPhone 4. It seems to be a nice middle road between something like the "barely there" and the Ballistic.
Did you drop your old phone a lot?

There is a balance between protection and bulk in cases
I don't want a case that inhibits the phone from venting heat. And I don't want one that is too bulky. I've tried a lot of different cases, and this is the one that I like best:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/320771114659
Just don't drop it from too high above a floor that's too hard, and it should protect the phone OK. And at this price you can get a couple of them as spares, since they will crack occasionally.
The other thing about this case is the matte rubberized finish. Helps the phone to stay put in your pocket. It also makes the phone feel much more secure when holding it in your hand.
Here's a list of many of the available i777 cases:
http://www.traemcneely.com/2011/10/...i777-samsung-galaxy-s2-sii-cases-covers-sgs2/
The SGS ballistic case is way too big and the bumpers snag in your pocket. The case mate pop is great as long as you don't mind the shiny back scratching all to hell in two weeks. Also the grey plastic around the edge flakes off really easily. The commuter is smaller than both and likes to draw dust... The thin cases will never completely protect your phone. Always had otterbox, always will keep using otterbox.

TPU cases have a tendency to stretch if you take them on and off too much. I had one for about 2 weeks and it was already feeling loose and I was only taking it on/off about once a day.
And they attract lint like mad. The reason I was taking it off daily was to rinse it off.

35 bucks! Damn. Not any cheaper on Amazon. That's a bit too much for me.
Thanks guys for the tips. I ordered a couple cheap hard TPU cases like some recommended here to see how they are. Perhaps I'll need more protection and look into something else.
I didn't drop my old phone a lot, but I did once in a while drop it from my desk. I don't have insurance on my GS2 so I would like some protection in case it drops since the phone feels fairly fragile.
Can anyone recommend a middle of the line case between thin TPU cases and the Ballistic? I know Otterbox is along those lines but $35 is too much!

maybe the case-mate pop. conflicting reports on whether it has the right holes or not. it also has the built in kickstand

oh, also, the otterbox should come down in price soon, like the intl. GS2 version has.
I have the casemate barely there and the casemate and the casemate full version. Both work great and give flexibility.

The Case-Mate Pop! is the best I've found. It is a hard plastic case that is lined on the inside with rubber for shock absorption. It also has rubber inserts on the outside along each edge. Has a very solid feel with good grip. There is also a fold out stand but I don't really use it that often. Nice feature to have though.
It does add a little to the bulk of the phone but not as much as the Otterbox or other heavy duty cases. I found it a good compromise between size and protection. I think it's well worth it for something that fits perfectly and feels really good in the hand.
All of the holes line up perfectly on this case even it's categorized under the International SII. The noise canceling mike on top is included in the microphone cutaway. No noticeable difference in signal quality or phone call quality.
Sorry, tried to post a link but I'm too new. You can go to Case-Mate's website and look under the Samsung Cases, Samsung Galaxy SII, International version.
I have the Casemate Barely There Aluminum, SGP Linear, and some mesh one I got for $3 on ebay. Out of all of these I prefer the SGP Linear. It completely protects the phone, leaving no edges exposed, feels like quality, and keeps the slim profile of the phone. I had to make a little hole for the noise cancelling mic but that was easy.

Thin case

Hi there,
Im looking for thin case.
Best I have found is this case on ebay
Design is not bad, but its not covering glass area around the camera.
Questions:
1. Is there any thin case(plastic, rubber) that covers that?
2. Anyone tried skins? Will they remove easily(considering phone is jeans pocket)?
3. Those who are using various rubber, gel, hybrid and so on cases, how much fatter is your phone with them? If its not that much fatter suggestions on good cases then

I have tried them all, best case is either the capdase brand or official HTC TPU case. They both let your phone slide into your pocket easy, don't bulk out your phone, look great and offer good protection.

Look up the Kraken AMS. That is a reasonable case.
Alternatively just look for something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-HAR...sesPouches&hash=item3a6a2fac16#ht_1887wt_1396
Best thing about this type of case is it doesn't add too much bulk, and is easy to get in and out of your pocket (unlike a silicone/rubber case). And it will actually protect your phone in a drop unlike that case you linked to in your original post. As for your screen... only BIG cases include a plastic layer to completely cover the glass.
Are you just looking for something with raised edges, and then use a screen protector perhaps? (Like the ebay one I showed you).
http://www.amazon.com/Acase-Superle...1HVI/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1333169597&sr=8-9
this has been the best case for me so far, its very thin, and has a rubber skin with a hard plastic shell..the kraken, and defender are way to big for me. this case is just the right size its about the same size as a tpu case.

My case looks exactly the same and it was £3 from amazon.
IMO the thinnest cases are the back cases ones that doesnt really cover the top and bottom bezel...just the sides and back. BUT if you really want to protect your phone and not get it scratched up over time, you are better off using a TPU type case as the are not too thick and are of softer material and will not rub off any of the black anodized paint. Unlike any hard cases, whether its back only or 2 pieces. Also TPU cases are more absorbent during accidental drop on hard surfaces.
I was running seidio 2pc case hard case w/kick stand with my first 3d and although it had felt inside it eventually rubbed off the pain on the top corners of my phone. The felt inside was very thin and the case is not skin tight so it would move some and the slight movement of the case over time eventually sandpapered some of the paint off. TPU or rubber type cases are more skin tight and is not as abrasive as plastic on painted metal and will not damage the paint so long as you also clean it off from time to time. Some dirt can eventually get in between and the dirt will act as sandpaper. So just consider this when you're buying a case as some of you would probably like to sell your phone later down the road or just want to keep it looking new for a long time.

you can buy cases that are real slim and don't really add much to the phone. it still protects it. highly recommended!
I'm a huge fan of this. It's more expensive than a lot of cases, but you're buying two cases: a TPU (I think? some sort of rubberish material) skin, and a hard plastic shock-resistant outer shell. It also comes with two screen protectors, and has all of the cutouts (as well as incorporating dust covers for the speakers) for this phone. It's incredibly durable, and at $30 it's a pretty good value if you dig it.

Oh, and if you don't care for black, it comes in four other colors - which also determines the color of the underlying soft case.
I hate cases. Was shattering the glass on my previous iPhones constantly because of it and the fact that I am clumsy as sh$t. That being said I bought the case mate barely there case and it is great. I highly recommend it for being slim and protected. Really doesnt add bulk at all and have dropped this phone many times without a scratch. Good buy I suggest it for anyone who doesn't like bulky cases
No case

I love Zagg's full body cases. If you don't want a bulky case zagg is the best cuz its really like a full body screen protector. They're expensive but they replace them without a problem if you have any problems
Otterbox can be a bit bulky, but it's tired and true (I'm using the Commuter version). I like having a phone with a bit more heft to it so I know nothing will happen when I inevitably drop it. Cut outs are pretty much perfect, with flaps to cover ports and keep out dust. Corners can attract lint, and my biggest gripe with it would be how hard it is to get on and off (it's a problem for taking out SIM card), but I never have cause to take it off very often anyway. I really like it thought, there's my 2 cents.
I'm using the otterbox commuter. I love it!!

I hate using a case but I rather have it on "just in case". I absolutly love the lightness and overall feel of the SGS2 naked
Wife and I are using the official galaxy s2 mesh case. Not much protection but the buttons aren't covered and it keeps the camera off the counter. All we really need with almost no bulk added

Nope no case.
Well worth!
Using the Diztronic Matte Back Black Flexible TPU Case
Note: the come-along screen protector is perfectly fitted but low quality.

Review: OtterBox Commuter with Pictures

I love my Evo LTE, it is an awesome phone! When I bought it though I received the horrible news that TEP from Sprint had gone up as well as the Asurion Deductible. Normally I don't like cases because I like to keep my phone sleek but with this in mind I had to buy one. I opted for the OtterBox Commuter (I bought on Amazon for a little over $20 shipped). So I thought I'd hit you guys up with a review just in case anybody is on the fence about what case to get.
Overall:
I liked the tight fit, the good amount of protection without the bulk, and the fact that the kickstand is perfectly accesible and usable in both directions Plus it's relatively cheap. Check attached images. I had no problems with any of the cutouts for microphone or the back camera. Also the charging port and headphone jack coverings worked fairly well. They were a bit bothersome, mainly the headphone jack, depending on the size of the plug but overall they're pretty good.
Fit:
I must say this case has a TIGHT fit on my phone! It is not loose anywhere and the silicone is actually pretty tight on there unlike other two layer cases I've tried. It is tight enough that no dust has gotten underneath it to the case which I hate when cases do that! Also all the buttons are unaffected by the case and I like the feel they have with it on. Oh and the kickstand can still be used both ways, port up or down!
Size:
The case hasn't added much bulk at all. I still think this phone is pretty thin with the case on. I took a picture next to an Evo 3d with no case on just for size comparison and as you can see, this case adds little to no bulk.
Protection:
I feel my phone is pretty well protected. I already got past the 1st scary fall yesterday when I dropped it running down some stairs :/ but my phone was not harmed at all, neither was my case. Obviously it's not meant to be a hardcore heavy duty run over with a car case (as rumored with some Ballistics) but it's a good balance between protection and keep it thin.
Screen Protector:
I personally don't like screen protectors too much. It seems unnecessary for this phone with Gorilla Glass but it's still a nice gesture for it to be included. I installed it for demonstration purposes since many people with screen protectors had problems with proximity sensor. The protector included in the case had the cutout for the proximity sensor which was definitely a plus. I also noticed it's a pretty hard screen protector and feels almost like bare glass, but I still don't plan on keeping it for long lol
The Bad:
The only bad thing I've found so far is that the silicone is a little bit of a dust magnet. It hasn't gotten too serious to where it bothers me but it's just something to note.

This is what I hate about silicone. Also, it ends up making it difficult to pull out of your pocket because of how sticky/tacky it is. Thanks for the review.

Great review buddy. I get the lint all around the edge of the screen's silicone also. Anyone have any good cleaning tips for getting lint and dust off the silicone parts?

I dont normally like to put cases on phones either but this phone...i dont know I had the overwhelming urge to put a case on it. Now i was going to go wit ha normal regular hard shell case off of ebay for 5 bucks but..no.. not this time. I got the otterbox commuter aswell. Truth be told I was worried about the silicone not fitting perfectly but to my surprise it fits damn well. Plus the case feels good in the hand. I actually like how the phone feels with the case on. i did put the screen protector on because look at it this way. $600 phone with ''gorilla glass''..... youre really not going to do anything to protect it? Gorilla glass is scratch resistant not scratch proof. My opinion is youve gotta have a few screws loose if youre not going to put a screen protector on the phone.
over all great case, feels good, doesnt add bulk.
The defender however...makes the phone huge
I rocked my OG for two years with every rugged case u could think of and never worried about the phone. The last month I had the phone I had it naked as all of my cases were breaking on me. I loved how great the Evo felt naked and how easy it was to slip it into my pocket. Anywho, I ended up dropping it and shattering the screen. I bought the new Evo and slapped the Commuter on it before leaving BB. I thought the Defender was way too big for pocket use (I'm over the belt clip thing). It maintains the sleekness of the OG Evo, so, I love it! The included screen protector is pretty good too surprisingly. Not a single complaint from me!
Yeah I have actually kept this case on and been loving it. The case adds a really nice feel to my phone and I honestly like the look it gives my phone. I have yet to try the defender but when I do ill do a write up on it as well

I love the review. I'm actually about to switch from the defender to the commuter case. Getting tired of the extra bulk and the rubber on the defenders seem to tear rather quickly. I had the same tearing prob when I had a defender on my e3d. Had the e3d defender replaced twice. So again thanks for the review picking up a commuter case tomorrow.
Bought the same case as soon as I got my phone, beat case hands down still nice and thin the dust magnet I agree but its protective and not heavy ! It was cheap too off amazon. The port cover is clever

I had the Defender on my phone from day one. I just ordered this one. It looks a little slimmer and will fit my pocket better. Thanks for the review.

I have the defender case and the rubber over the charging port keeps breaking off. Does that happen with the commuter case?

Yeah spot on review I feel the same way about my commuter case. I had the defender for my OG EVO but I like the feel and look of the commuter on my LTE so much better
