[Q] Question - Not Reconnecting to Wi-Fi After StandBy/Sleep - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a Dual Band router (ASUS RT-N66U), which has 2.4ghz, and 5ghz.
I found that my S3 when using it happens the following:
-Connect to 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi Access
-Then Lock it (Wi-Fi turns off when lock as I setup)
-Go Back to active, and reconnects automatically to Wi-Fi
-Connect to 5Ghz Access
-Then Lock it (Wi-Fi turns off when lock as I setup)
-Go Back to active, and it does not reconnects automatically to Wi-Fi, having to select it and connect again manually.
Why on 2.4Ghz it works perfect, and for 5Ghz I need to make the connection manually?!
Thanks in advance, to whoever can help me.

I can't be much help other than to confirm mine does the same thing. I have a WNDR3700 running DD-WRT, my GSIII is running Omega 27.1 and SiyahKernel 1.6.4. It had been driving me crazy having not automatically reconnecting to the 5Ghz band. I don't know exactly where the disconnect is.

Thank you bud, I'll try with samsung to see if we can find a solution to it.
At least i'm not the only one, i thought it was issued

Wireless network keeps stopping...

anyone got any solution, it can drop after 10 secs, and im sitting right in front of the router.....
Possible fix:
Had the same problem - the wifi never stayed connected.
I've followed this procedure with the wife's Iphone and my X10 and it seems to work - dunno why, but it does.
BTW I have a Netgear Router.
1.) on the X10, Forget any connections you have set up with your router (Hold on the connection then select Forget)
2) Turn off WiFi (Tap WiFi)
3) Access your router and enter the Wireless section (see your manual - it varies Router to router)
4) Turn off any security you have set up on your router. You may need to APPLY the change and then RESCAN the router to actually transmit it. If you connect to the router via WiFi you may need to re-connect your computer to continue.
5) Back on the X10, turn the wiFi back on wait a minute
6) Refresh the network list (Menu button > rescan)
7) Select your Network name and connect (hold on the Network name, then select Connect)
8) The X10 should now connect to your unsecured network.
9) Back to the Router and re-enable the Network Security (APPLY and RESCAN if necessary). Again you may be disconnected if you use WiFi for your PC, so re-connect.
10) Back on the X10 and you are disconnected again. The X10 may be displaying a Password requirement, if not then Tap on your Network and select connect - it'll appear.
11) Enter your Password, and you should be connected.
Hopefully - with luck and a following wind, you are connected and it won't lose it again....
Good Luck!

[Q] S3 Wifi, Roaming and Time Issue. Please help

I am away form home now and facing some frustrating issues with my new S3.
1. I cant connect to any WIFI network though the WIFI connection has very good signal strength. I always get the msg 'Network disabled. Poor Connection'. There is nothing wrong with the WIFI as i can connect it with my laptop and my buddy could connect to it using his IPhone.
2. My roaming time is completely wrong. It does not follow the time of the country I am in. It is showing the same time as my home country network. Shouldnt it automatically detect the network and shows the correct time like Iphone?

1. Restart the router & try just using 2.4Ghz in settings > wifi > advanced
2. Ensure: menu > settings > date & time > check [auto date & time] and [auto time zone]

Beginnin to regret my decision to get a S3. So complicating!
If you happen to have a case on, remove it and try again.

Hi, this is my first post, as I created my account specially with the purpose to answer you.
After being faced with the problem all day and reading all possible materials on the topic in google and here, my dad walked in and asked me why he is not able to connect to our home wireless connection.
This was when I retrieved my hope that the problem is not in the phone. And it was not! My iPhone, my laptop were able to obtain a internet connection in contrast to my other laptop and my S3! I restarted the rooter and everything was ok! Everbody got their internet dose !
So, most probably it isn't you!
Also have wifi problem, except it tells me it's an authentication error. I cannot connect to the WiFi unless I stand right next to it. Can't connect to WiFi anywhere (if you think it's the router in my house), even though the device detects the router. Sent it back to Samsung.

Hey, I experienced the same problem. But in my case, I am able to connect to the AP, if I am using a static IP address in the SGS3 instead of DHCP. Same router, no settings changed there. Just configured a static IP.
Cheers,

Same problem
Tried everything still not working, took it back to samsung they said it's working fine any other device is connecting without a problem but the S3 wont (i have 15 S3 with this problem)
Thanks

I'm also frequently getting the "Network disabled. Poor Connection" message when at home. I have 2 wifi routers:
- Buffalo WHR G54S
- Draytek 2920n
If I turn wifi off/on on the S3 it sometimes resolves the issue, but not always. Sometimes after turning off/on it shows a status of "Connected"but there is no internet connectivity. If I then switch to the other router I can sometimes (but not always) connect successfully.
I'm running Checkrom v5.5, and have tried both the Perseus and Siyah kernels - both have this problem.

WiFi 802.11n connection problem

Hi there!
Does anybody have a problem with connection to 802.11n network?
I can't connect to any 802.11n networks, but 802.11g is working fine. If I switch my router to "Only 802.11n" mode - SGS III is seeing the network but can't connect.
I have tested it on LF6, LFB and CM9 (lastest nightly)
My Notebook and GALAXY NOTE work fine with 802.11n.11n.
What's the problem?
I have had no issues with 802.11n networks; have tested a few.
Try going in to Wi-Fi service mode (*#0011# in keypad (may not work on custom roms), then select menu button, and Wi-Fi at the bottom; toggle power save mode off (default is on); try connecting again - this has helped me connected to some networks previously that didn't connect.
I have the same problem since I updated to Omega 8.1 based on lfb.

Ok. Thank you. I will try.
I have tried to switch WiFi power save mode off, but 802.11n doesn't work.
For me it is a really big problem.
Also I have already installed XXBLG1. 802.11n on it is not working too!

HTC ONE X WiFi Connecting Problem
Hi all,
the following problem: I´ve bought a ONE X and want to log into the w-lan of my company which is secured with this 802.1x encryption. With my HTC HD2 (Leo) I just entered username and password, and there was no problem. The first that the ONE X requires is to set up a screen lock and still builds no connection. There isonly the message: Connecting ...
Tried with several Roms (HD revolution, Cahrmeleon, MIUI) but always the same. Have already edited the wpa.supplicant.config file and also tried with WIFI Advanced Configuration Editor.
Anybody got an idea whis is?
I have exactly the same problem! I think it is an hardware problem! I just wait a few days hoping its an software problem!

No Wi-Fi access in the 802.11n standard, and at a frequency of 5GHz.
To solve this problem is easy. Just follow the instructions:
1. Put with Google Play free program wifixmanager.
2. Turn off Wi-Fi.
2. Run. Push Install WiFix on request give the program as root.
3. Reboot.
4. Open your default dialer (Phone). Attention! Only regular dialer, do not use third-party applications. We type the code *#94349# and press "Call"
5. Wi-Fi reconnects.
6. Voila.
It is also recommended to the country code Wifix manager put EU, instead of the U.S..
If after the restart when connected to wi-fi internet does not work, turn the wi-fi or again to type *#94349# (*#WIFIX#).

Xperia Z2 -> 802.11n -> Doesn't Work

My Xperia Z2 does not connect on 802.11n wifi, this is a bug in the firmware .402 ? I mean, the device finds the network but not connect! When I change to G / B, connect it back!

It happens in .438 based too. It used to connect to network by themselves, but not anymore. It happens with my friends Z1 too. So I think this is something wrong with wifi auto connect

Aussie .402 here and 2x Z2's working fine on 'N' - Auto connecting etc...
Sure its not your router or the channel?

The device does not connect automatically (based on location), and does not connect when I select "connect" the network that I want!

The channel is set to automatic, but I believe the problem is not that! Very strange... So I change to B or G, the smartphone connects smoothly! And there's nothing wrong with the router, since my Smart TV connects normally and Xbox ONE too!

I tried to tell you to turn off location based auto connect, it might solve the problem? I am in school and school is not allowing me to use phone on school time , so I can't try it now....
Also if you have got more than one router (or SSID) try to use only one AP... for example I am using multi router to cover my huge house in and sometime phone is not allowing me to connect to the network that I want, it connects to other AP.
Just in case I share my environment. I purchased Xperia Z2 from Australian Telco Telstra and I flashed RomAur 3.7. Stock Kernel.
My routers are using 2.4ghz and distance between 2routers are 12m. and I mainly use my phone in 1m away from router A(router that I want to use.)

Just sharing result. I tested with my 2router disabling location based auto connect, but it didn't connect automatically and not letting me to use the hot spot that I want to use. As it is not happening with my HTC One .
I think this is something wrong with software and we probably just have to wait.(maybe can send report to SOMC)

How do I make WiFi Direct use 5Ghz?

I'm part of an FTC robotics team, and our control system uses WiFi Direct with 2 phones to communicate between the robot's phone and the driver station phone. We often have issues with the connection dropping out during matches at the big competitions, do to a ton of other teams all using WiFi Direct at the same time and crowding up the 2.4 GHz band. (At the bigger events, there are over 1,000 devices using 2.4Ghz!!!) Is there any way to force WIFI Direct to use the 5 Ghz band on the Galaxy S5 (or Nexus 5)?

A year late, but here is the answer for other people.
Androids WiFi Direct will work in 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz, but for new groups, it apparently defaults to 2.4Ghz, unless you are already connected to a 5Ghz AP.
So repeat for both phones:
Stop the FTC apps (Press the Multi-Task button and then hit the X on the FTC apps)
Settings - WiFi -> Advanced -> WiFi Direct
Press and hold on all the Wifi Direct Connections and Groups on both phones. Tell them to Disconnect and/or Forget.
Now use the WiFi settings to connect both phones to a 5Ghz Access Point.
Redo the WiFi Direct pairing process (The FTC 4 app will seek out its similarly named *-RC automatically if you start both apps).
