if u cant upgrade thor 'Kies' then the only other option left for u, is flashing the latest Firmware thro 'ODIN'. which in turn will unroot ur phone for sure
but u can always re-root ur phone, with various option available though
i download the mobile odin pro to my phone, but i don't know what supposed to do with him

BVLPD is ur current firmware, while BVLPB is ur Baseband/Modem/Radio. so u can upgrade to the latest build one thats BVLPH
From the moment you root a device ..or even worse ....root & install a custom rom & kernel ...Samsung doesnt even know the device exists anymore ...so of course Kies won't work ...that's what the Yellow Warning at boot up ..is all about
Its basically alerting you .....your warranty is now void ...no more support from Samsung ....your actions can change system files ...in return damage the OS so bad that it can never recover ....only sending the device back to Samsung or other official service center may fix it ...but no guarantee ....etc .....& you need to unroot... before you can do that ....
but if the device crashes & won't recover because the OS has been damaged ...then you will never be able to unroot ...
Root is the ability to alter the OS ....SuperUser Access "Administrator "
No Root ....basically Samsung is the SU or Admin

i did it but know my phone shows a message which say unfortunately logs provider has stopped or a message which say unfortunately the process android, process.acore has stopped stoped and after it crashed...
what i can do?
The device will reboot to recovery mode (CWM) and do nothing.
I'm guessing the CWM is the problem here.
Is there any safe solution for this? I don't want to wipe or backup or anything if possible.
Is there a way to just reverse the root?
ICS 4.0.4

Just make the update with kies and reflash root with odin after update

For christ`s sake choose, if you want root forget about Samsung or stick with Samsung and forget about XDA. You can`t have it both ways :silly:

I'm having an issue with upgrading the firmware through the phone.

If you are rooted and you want to keep root delete FotaClient.apk and FWUpgrade.apk.in system/apps, you will not be bothered then with OTA`s.. For upgrades go to www.sammobile.com/firmware and flash the rom you downloaded with Odin v3 3.0.4.and reroot afterwards or flash with Mobile Odin Pro and keep root. See item 2 and 3 of my signature. Cheers mate from my high horse

OTA update works with ClockworkMod Touch Recovery v6.0.1.4 (http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager)
It will fail signature validation and then give you an option to install anyway...

Well, you obviously can't flash a stock FOTA with CWM, you need a stock recovery (Don't know why) and then you can flash FOTAs..
Try flashing firmware using Kies, or downloading it from http://sammobile.com/firmware and flash it with Odin. Both will work

Hello everyone,
Firstly, I would like to apologize if this question has been answered before, I simply cannot find the answer for it. So I am currently rooted on 5.1.1 with, (according to the About Device section of my phone)
Kernel version:
3.10.61-S6_Unikernel_v9-0000initial
[email protected] #1
Thu Sep 10 19:10:19 BST 2015
Build Number: XtreStoLite Deo Mod v.2.4 - XXU3COI9
According to my model number, it says my model number is SM-G925K, but my original build number was SM-G925W8.
Also, I am using TWRP recovery
So like I have started in the title, I would like to update to 6.0.1 stock, and then root it and install a custom rom. I have bought my phone from Rogers, and am on a 2 year contract with them.
I am COMPLETE noob when it comes to this, so anything to help is appreciated, I recently switched from iPhone to Android
EDIT #1: I am only asking this question because my carrier has not rolled out the firmware yet, and I am not on stock firmware anymore so I was wondering if it was possible to update, I don't want to end up with a bricked device

Okay so instead of updating via smartswitch, I downloaded the firmware via a website (not sure if I am able to mention it here, but I won't anyway) for my model (SM-G925W8) and flashed it via Odin. Then I rooted via CF-AutoRoot by Chainfire, and am currently installing Xtrestolite 3.3.1

SELinux is a set of kernel modifications and user-space tools
u dont need custom kernel as my opinion
custom kernels with comes Permissive
and official kernels comes with enforcing

I don't know if this is significant, but the reason I asked about SELinux is because when I open TWRP manager and it tells me my TWRP version, it says Please set SELinux to Permissive in order to view this
