NFC HowTo - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Can someone point me to a tutorial on how to use NFC on my note? I thought I was trying something simple by attempting to share a photo from my note to another but I am apparently just not Getting It Right(tm).
I'm running a rooted stock OS with cruft disabled/removed. NFC transfers are enabled on both devices and they both indicate 'ready to transmit app content'. Now what?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiSzC1-TCz8&feature=youtube_gdata_player

always tried to figure out how to use the NFC lol

Never used it ....
I guess I'd better read up ....g

Well damn - the ONE thing I wanted to do with NFC and it's not supported.... yet/natively. Thanks for the link though!

At this point it would take to long to transfer 8 mp photos via nfc. The transfer rate is just not even close

Odd that it seems so simple yet there are no comments on that article on how to unlock from April...
Hmmmm.... picking up a Note next week and really interested in if that works..
Its powered by Jellybeaned AOKP!

Yes it works. You can find the original thread a few pages back

Interesting, I never looked into the detailed specs of what NFC was capable of. Wi-Fi direct transfers work well enough, but are disruptive to general Wi-Fi use. I guess I'll stick with that.

Ugh. I used NFC daily while on stock ICS. Installed cm10 and now NFC will not turn on. Tried flashing the "fox" file from that article from April 2012. I was hoping this thread would give me a new light. I suppose it is back to stock ICS.

I tried it today, I have JB, other phone had ICS, the only time it work is when the other phone got a text message while we were trying it. He uses gosms, my phone came up with a play store link for gosms. It doesn't seem to work across different platforms. Probably would work between two phones using the same platform. It also says it relies on bluetooth.

NFC will not fully check on in the wireless settings. The Samsung tectile app says NFC not turned on and will not let me read any tiles. I am going to try a clean install of cm10 and not do a Google restore of app and settings. Maybe this will work for me

Well it did work till Samsung heard of everyone using their app before the GS3 even released and made some changes so that it now only works on the GS3. Works just fine on my pre-ordered rooted LTEvo. The reason why its giving you guys the "Network Error" is because the initial ripped version of this app was not signed. There is a Signed .Apk for this app somewhere in the forums which would work "flawlessly". If incase its still messing up then fixing the permissions should do it.

No jtag is your only hope.. Sending a brick into Samsung is fraud. You claim all responsibility when you give your phone root access, not to mention installing a 3rd party operating system.
True there are ways to revert everything to stock so that you can return it, but these are for people with legitimate hardware defects not to be abused by someone who can't man up and admit they made a mistake.
Ffs
STOP CONDONING FRAUD ON THIS FORUM!!!
THE REASON COMPANIES WANT TO LOCK DOWN DEVICES AND MAKE US NOT ABLE TO TO MODIFY ANYTHING IS THAT EXACT REASON.
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN MISTAKES AND STOP RUINING IT FOR THE PEOPLE THAT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!
XDA does not condone Fraud in any way, shape or form. If you broke it and somehow pull the wool over their eyes, don't post it here.
We all take these risks when we flash the ROMs/Kernels/Mods. In doing so, we also should take the responsibilities as well.
I am still trying to figure out why "This weekend" as well as the relevance of this thread.

If one was using the stock ROM but had it rooted, updating would presumably deroot the device, right? Or would the update fail?
I meant Q-slide was suppose to be working with other apps, like the whole browser not just certain videos, and it was suppose to work with other apps natively. In the notification bar there was suppose to be a Q-slide bar under the brightness bar and you could select apps to play over your current app.

Dude I NEVER had that option since I took the phone out the box at the AT&T store. You're saying you had that to begin with? I find that very odd....
So I did some searching around to see exactly what Q Slide is SUPPOSED to be and I think you must have this feature confused with something else or another phone all together. Even on various videos and LG's own website, Q Slide is used to watch VIDEOS and use apps at the same time. It says absolutely nothing about having 2 different apps on top of each other at the same time. I think you are confusing yourself mate.

A Fix for Your GPS Woes

While browsing a bit last night I luckily stumbled across a recovery flashable zip that fixed all my GPS issues on AOSP. I had previously tried all the other fixes that have been posted thus far and none worked on the 20130601 VRB nightly, the previous VRB nightlies, any of the PA releases, or any of the other various AOSP ROMs.
In the post it states that this will work with any of the t0lte phones, the VZW Note 2 is the t0ltevzw for those of you who have only heard of it referred to as the i605, so I gave it a shot and lo and behold my GPS locked within 5 seconds where it previously wouldn't even pick up any satellites.
So those of you having the same problem try flashing this:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/40116-42...de-hello-halo-0604/page__st__490#entry1184057
Here is a link to it in my Dropbox for those of you who would rather not use Rootz:
http://db.tt/PnvlFhgy
The way I flash it and the way I have always gotten it to work is to open Maps first, click the GPS shape to get it to find you, wait until it says "Unable to locate", reboot directly into recovery, flash this fix WITHOUT WIPING ANYTHING, reboot and open Maps, profit. When you are testing Maps after you flashed the fix make sure you are outside to give it the best possible chance to find satellites. If it still locks show but you are getting a lock try using FasterGPS from the Play Store to change your GPS.conf, to do so open the app, grant it superuser privileges, and select the correct continent and region under NTP Server. It should be North America for the continent and United States for the region unless you are using the i605 out of country, if you are using it out of country then select the appropriate continent and region.
I didn't create this nor in any way, shape, form, or fashion take any credit for this fix, the credits go to alba on Rootz. The only thing I have done is post it here so hopefully the people with GPS issues will see it and finally be able to use it.
EDIT:
For those of you that flash this please leave a comment starting if it did or did not work and what ROM and kernel you're using. If you haven't flashed a kernel then just put something like "using kennel that came with ROM." This way maybe we can see which ROMs it works with and which it doesn't so hopefully we can troubleshoot it and get your GPS working.
Also if the fix doesn't work download GPS Status or GPS Toolbox from the Play Store and see if your phone is even seeing the satellites. If it is it will show you something along the lines of either 0/0 or 0/x# of satellites. I have included some screenshots to show you how to find the number of satellites in GPS Status.

Something new you learn about your Mega...

So, I hope others add to this thread. I learned something new to me and thought I'd share.
There were several times when I picked up my phone, and it vibrated. For no reason. I thought this was odd. But, there was a reason. I just didn't know it. I have been reading the samsung site's FAQ and was enlightened.
When you pick up your mega and it vibrates, it is telling you there is a missed call, text, voicemail or other notification waiting. It's called Smart Alert. Very convenient if you have notifications limited to 1. Never had a phone do this before. I like it!!
I learned my Mugen 6600mah battery is a beast giving me double battery life lol naw I'm playing. Glad to see someone else noticed that vibration thing...but running custom 4.4.2 it doesn't do it anymore.cheerz
*SHAYNEZ*KCCO*
I will throw in one. On the lock screen, I added a widget for the remote. Now, I don't even have to unlock the phone to turn the tv down. I really like the IR feature.
dmn i wasnt sure what those vibrations supose to do ( for me it was more like "haha im not sleepn any more" lol )
IR is pretty sweet. what apks u use to use ur mega as remote controller?
I just use the Samsung stock WatchOn for IR remote. It works well with my dish recievers and televisions. Is there something I should look at that is better?

I like your version of that vibration!! I used to think it was just saying "HI, still here!"
I use the stock watch on too. I found this by accident. Was going thru the unfamiliar apps in the apps drawer, clicked on it and found a very cool thing!!! Works on optonline's cable box! Very cool. I have the Note 8 and never found this one. It's there though! Just had to hunt for it.
Keep um coming guys!!! Thanks for your participation! :highfive:
I just learned over the weekend that my Mega can be used an an IR remote for my Nikon camera. Does all sorts of stuff that the Nikon remote does, and for free ($4 if I want the ad-free version, which I'm considering).
I like that when I am txting someone.... I can tap on the paperclip and choose "record audio".. then it gives me over 3 minutes of yapping and yapping.. so much easier than typing or even using the voice typing.. 3 minutes of my own speech.. in a txt message!!! love it
Ohh i just learn today this, if you update your mega 6.3 I9200 to the new firmware you will get this beautiful security call KNOX :banghead: ahhh i lost my root  so if you get the OTA Update you should think twice before upgrading.

Ohh i just learn today this, if you update your mega 6.3 I9200 to the new firmware you will get this beautiful security call KNOX :banghead: ahhh i lost my root  so if you get the OTA Update you should think twice before upgrading.

Can someone explain exactly why knox is so bad? Does it keep you from re-rooting?
This is what I know about it so far. It makes a separate "box" of stuff so you can keep your work stuff separate from your personal stuff and your employers have the ability to control this "box" somehow. I know it can't be un-installed. That's about all my knowledge, even after checking it out!

There is no going back to older version rom if you flash a knox enabled rom. You are stuck with it. You can't install custom roms either.

Sorry, but it's no way... new firmware is one way ticket - you can't go back even if you have nandroid backup. New bootloader prevent you from downgrading. Anyway in my opinion it is only matter of time to find a way to root new firmware with KNOX. And when 4.4.2 arrives there will be no other choice than upgrade with all what it contains... and one of this things will be KNOX for sure.
Since no one is jumping in here to explain why knox is so bad, I went back to find out exactly what knox is. Read the following link from samsung's site.
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/mobile/solution/security/samsung-knox/
This explains what it is. I still need to know why it is so bad for devs to get around it. Any one???
What I got so far after reading the above link is it is attached to the bootloader, and the kernel, so if anyone messes with these components, the phones senses it and shuts down the phone. Is this the huge block associated with the att version and knox in general?
I ha e discovered that in my text window, when I hit vol + or - , my text size will increase or decrease. Hmmmmm.

This has nothing to do with knox
The bootloader will block any older roms.
But it's still possbile to flash an older rom through custom recovery
