4g LTE vs EVO 3D battery life - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hi everyone,
I am thinking about switching to white 4G LTE but have some concerns. So the reason why I bought evo 3D is that the battery is bigger than EVO 4G and it's replaceable. But now the 4G LTE won't let me change the battery, I am concerned about the battery life. Does anyone use EVO 3D before and can tell me the battery life difference between these two phones?
I know some people would say "go buy the external portable battery" but it is so much bigger than just carrying an extra battery so it is not an option for me. I love that I can use GPS when I am hiking and not to worry about running out of juice because there are extra batteries in my pockets. The extra batteries are just small enough that it does not really bother me to carry around.
So please share your experience with EVO 3D and EVO 4G LTE battery life in order to help out an EVO fan here Thanks

Your not going to need a spare battery with this phone unless u dont sleep and charge phone while doing so. Moderate-heavy users get a good 10 hours on battery. I get about 5-6 hours running netflix nonstop.
It is so much better than the og EVO and 3d. I didn't own the 3d, but the og EVO is near the same. Had friends w the 3d and put it thru its paces. Anyways, doesn't much matter, the EVO LTE battery is 3x the life of ye older EVOs.
Could exaggerate and say its a thousand times better, but IRL it is actually 3 times the battery, maybe 2.5. Point is you won't have to worry about your battery dieing like before.

Having owned both the EVO 4G and EVO 3D I have to say that the EVO LTE's battery life is much much better. I go all day with a full charge when I wake up at 6 am and get home at 6 pm. I usually charge ny phone about 9 pm. I'm play games and do a lot of internet browsing as well as YouTube.

I would have to agree with these guys. I've owned the original evo, and the 3D, and the battery on the LTE far surpasses both.

I've owned both and the lte is awesome on battery . I was on 3g/4g for 10hrs and WiFi the rest .

Pretty much, this. The fact that it's not removable was a little discouraging, but after using it for a couple weeks, that discouragement went away.

I have owned both the evo 4g and the evo 3d and its definitely not even close. The battery life on the evo lte is outstanding compared to the previous evo's, and battery life is even more impressive when connected to lte when compared to the evo4g/3d when connected to wimax. If your biggest concern is battery life then you won't have anything to worry about.

owned all the evos and the lte is the only 1 that doesnt need a charge mid-day to make it through the day.

I've had the 3d and now the LTE and so far the lte's battery life is much better. Full day with heavy use without any problem.

ill add my 2 cents also.. i owned the og evo the evo 3d and now the evo lte and the lte kills the other evo's in battery life!!

Everything these guys are saying is true

My EVO LTE (stock) performs great on battery most of the time. I got home yesterday after work and was still at 80% (light use, most of the time spent in good signal area/WiFi access).
I do, however, get days where my battery life plummets (comparatively). Each of these days, Google Maps is listed as the major battery user (40-50%). I still can't figure out what triggers this (rogue) activity and why it spins out of control. My best guess is that something requests location and maps, for some reason, gets stuck trying to get the info. Seemingly, the only way I've found to stop the process is to power cycle -- killing maps doesn't seem to be effective.

If you use ROM toolbox, you can deny every receiver for maps, or just some.

I had the Evo 4G, still have the Evo 3D(just can't bring myself to sell it), and now have the Evo 4G LTE. I was disappointed by it not having a removable battery, but I still preordered it. For my Evo 4G I had extended batteries. For my 3D I have Anker batteries and a charging dock with a slot to charge extra batteries as well. Honestly though, it's nice to not have to carry extra batteries every where you go!! I did for years and it's a nice change!! The battery will last all day easily. I have multiple wall chargers and car chargers if ever needed.

I should add that I only know of 1 spot that had Wimax 4G, and it was a small spot where I rarely ever was and you had to be outside to get the signal. I now have 4G LTE all around my yard and even in my house! Actually, I get the fastest speeds on my bed!! 4G LTE is also at my girlfriends house and her work. It's awesome, and so are the speeds!! Faster speeds with LTE since it launched than I ever got on Wimax in 2 years!!!

The B life is pretty good on the LTE, but I think some of these people are exaggerating a little bit. If your a heavy user, you will definitely run out in about 5 to 7 hours. It is too bad there is no extended or replacement batteries on this.

Some users claim extraordinary battery life but are in fairly reliable areas and use WiFi only. When I first got the phone I got 5 hours of 3g netflix. Very very good

How's EVO3D battery life?

I'm currently on an OG EVO, so I wondered if I should upgrade to the 3D, battery life being one of my major concerns!
It depends on your set up I've gone like 16hours and had 75% remaining with one ROM kernel setup and rinsed the battery in a day with another setup. But the phone is brilliant the dev support is great imo I would do it.

Hey what's your set up like?? I'm running ViperROM with the stock kernel, and with MINIMAL usage, all radios off except wi-fi, I'm lucky to make it 12 hours without having to charge. For whatever reason, this started happening as of about 2 weeks ago. Before then (i've had the phone since launch), the battery has been pretty solid. I would end an average day with about 30-40% charge left.
I did and couldn't be happier. The 3d part is worthless in my opinion. However the battery life is fantastic. Games that barely ran on the evo Runs smooth and silky. The clarity of the display is out of this world!

I get on average 12+ of heavy use.
Depends on your usage patterns and so forth . If you are on the phone alot and texting constantly and facebooking etc etc yeah you will burn through the battery quite quickly . But mine is currently rooted and running viperrom setup and Im impressed with battery life . Its definitly better than stock also better than my evo in stock form
Depends all on setup and use. I can't even play games on mine because it reboots if I do anything like that no matter what ROM LOL so I save battery that way.

i had the og evo also and my battery was trash. it would die in maybe 6 hours. i upgraded to evo 3d and my battery life is so much better. im not rooted yet still stock. waiting on root for a while now 1.50 sucks!! anyways i get 16-18 hours out my battery... real talk...

My OG battery would die by 12p (noon) every work day on average. It would get unplugged around 6:30-6:45am and be dead or around 10% right by lunch. After getting the 3D I now have anywhere from 25-40% battery left. So that was a nice improvement, I get a **** signal at work. So unless I turn off the data, it just sucks the battery down.
Amazing! On my OG Evo, the battery used to drop a % just to turn on the screen. Now I can play a game on the Evo 3D and it doesn't even drop a percentage after 5 minutes. Like how freaking awesome is that!
And on my OG Evo, I used to come home from school with about 1% or 2% remaining panicking because my phone is about to die. Now with the Evo 3D, I come home with around 70%.

LTE Battery life

Although I hate to have to create yet another 'battery life' thread, I'd really like to get some insight into how Note users are faring on LTE and LTE ONLY. No one ever mentions what kind of network they're on in the other battery life threads and LTE battery life will differ greatly from those who are on HSPA. Hopefully this will also clear up some confusion for other LTE users who are seeing astronomical standby/screen on times compared to their own.
FWIW, I've never gotten more than 3hrs of screen on time and 12hrs standby on LTE - that's after root and de-bloat (stock rom). IMO, this is far from the "all day battery life" mentions I've seen strewn about the blogosphere. It's hard for me to judge where I stand compared to others since most screenshots I see show HSPA or wifi in the status bar...
So please, post some results of your Note's battery life on LTE ONLY. There's already plenty of battery life info for those on HSPA.
Thanks!
Sounds about right. I'm constantly in an LTE are and the most screen time i can achieve is no more than 3 hours.

Guess I'm just aiming too high? Too bad we don't even have the option to try HSPA... Yet.

Getting a Maxx soon

Coming from SPrints GS2
What is the normal battery life on LTE and off it?
Are people really getting 10hrs screen on time?
So ICS is coming soon too so it will be awesome
it uses a good amount of battery on 4g lte if your browsing for a bit. When on wifi, the battery last much longer. I just went a day on the battery. LOVE this phone!!
How's your screen on time
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
On 3g only I average 5 hrs screen on time before I'm around 20%. My wife has the gs2 and a trexcell 3800, the maxx still last longer. Crazy.
Forgot to add that mine is rooted but this time I have 0 apps frozen so basically just root access. All stock.
I too came from Sprint's Epic Touch. The Razr Max has great battery life and I like the build quality alot more than the E4GT. And wireless radio is awesome on this Razr Maxx.
On 3G I can squeeze like 6/7 hours of screen on time with heavy usage. I haven't tested much on 4G. I usually switch back and forth alot manually. Turn data off when I sleep at night.
The 3G is quick enough though. In my area I get better speeds on Verizon's 3G than I did on wimax! I use to get 2 bars of 3 with Sprints 4G. I don't really use 4G on Verizon unless my 3G is being super slow or something.
Battery life is great though. Last me all day with heavy usage no problem. I do miss the Epic Touch's software though. It was smoother, easier to use, and more options. And I miss the camera on the Epic Touch. That camera wins hands down. And I miss super amoled plus display.
But I had to sacrifice all the great things on the Epic Touch for better battery life and better wireless radio with big red and the Razr Maxx.
I really hope Verizon will get the Galaxy S 3. The GS2 line up is great. Wished Verizon had a variant lol.

No just go into wireless and networks and turn lte to cdma only. No real toggle like sprint has but very easy
I use this as a shortcut to turn off LTE:

So no one did a actual test of battery life with 4g on at all times? If not I will try to get one done tomorrow.

I've never had a single problem with the battery lasting all day in my Maxx. Wifi seems to eat the battery especially when not on a wifi network. But that still hasn't ever caused me to have to put my Maxx on a charger during the daytime. I charge overnight while I'm sleeping. I've got my battery down to about 30% on the heaviest of use days.
Don't worry. You're going to love your Maxx.
I usually get 16 hours with 4G all day with 4 hours of display. Lots of texting and emails

HTC Evo LTE Non Removable Battery

I still have my OG Evo 4g and love it, I however am on my phone ALOT and am very concerned over the non removable battery on the new Evo, I use my Evo with an extended battery and it lasts me about 6-7 hours and always carry an extra extended battery in my pocket since I hit the 6-7 hour mark by 2pm , I stream XM on my phone as well so alot of data usage. I really dont understand why HTC went with this design, like an iphone you have to always be tethered to a power source which is annoying as hell.
Can anyone with similar usage chime in that has the new Evo. I love HTC and wish to remain loyal but this seems like a deal breaker to me, and like previously mentioned by another user, HTC is great when it comes to updates compared to Samsung.
I am considering the s3 and it does have a slightly bigger screen and replaceable battery.
Any Input, my contract with Sprint is ready for an upgrade
i had the evo 4g battery was horrible.. i had the evo 3d battery was good for me with stock battery.. now i have the lte and i was up in the air for the same reason the battery.. i am super happy with the battery.. i use my phone alot and it has never ran out... i still have like 30-40% when i do to sleep.. battery is way better than i thought it was!!!!! thats 4 sure.. if your coming from the og evo then.. u will be super happy..
The battery is amazing. Enough said haha
Homestly, in my first day with this phone I've gotten better battery life than I have with any other phone before, sans my OG Evo with a 3500mAh battery, undervolted.

You can get the extended batteries on the iPhone, so I'm going to guess that extended battery cases will come out for the EVO LTE. Some of them more than doubles the battery life of the iPhone.

I would love to see your settings. I stream iheart radio or Pandora for 9 hours every day via Bluetooth starting at 7am till 4:30pm. I get to work with about 98% and plug in every day by noon. Now on days I am not at work I am very happy with battery life. I kept track last Sunday and got approx 10.5 hrs with moderate/heavy use. I consider streaming via Bluetooth for 9 hours pretty extreme use.
This phone is great on battery. The charger for my tablet died so I used my phone for all my web surfing at home and at work today. 14hrs with 3.5hrs screen on time (at 40-90% brightness), about 2 hours of podcasts, a bunch of stuff downloaded, some games, Instagram etc. I got home half an hour ago and I had 15% left, that's pretty damn good for heavy usage.
No doubt, even with medium to heavy usage I can easily get through the day and my work barely has one bar which used to drain my OG EVO incredibly fast. I do have LTE/CDMA mode switched to CDMA only
My concern is what happens after a battery loses its ability to hold a charge

If your main concern is battery life and you are a heavy user who doesn't have access to a charger when you need it, then in all honesty this isn't the phone for you.
While the battery is really good, many people are saying it's better than any other phone out, it doesn't neglect the fact that it does drain just like every other battery throughout the day.
You could most likely get through the day with a single charge as a heavy user, but if other factors aren't in your favor such as signal strength then it won't be likely.
You also have 14 days to test the phone out which is more than enough time to see if the battery life will work with your daily routine or not, if not just return it and get the SGSIII.

The battery looks pretty easy to get to from what I've seen.
Thank you all for the input, I guess I have a decision to make.
I love my EVO and really hate to give it up, best phone I've had ever
Good point that I could return within 15 days if I decide I dont like it and switch to the s3, that is what I will do.
Thank you all
Now the question too is once you start using LTE will the battery still last as long? Probably not unless you are on WiFi most of the time
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
The non removable battery was a big con for me too. With my past EGOs I always had a few spare batteries for those times I might get too low.and wasn't around a charger.
So I decided to get the new EVO but also get a portable battery pack charger.

Battery Life question?

I Currently have a Galaxy Nexus and was considering a trade offer for a EVO 4G LTE. was wondering how is the battery life on this thing? what are some battery stats are you guys are getting over here?

The battery life is fantastic but my old phone was a generation older then your Nexus. With my Epic 4G if I got 1.5hrs of screen on time (15-30% brightness and 1-2% no signal) I would be on the low battery warning. If I used Nav it would drain the battery 1% a minute. On the Evo I can have the screen cranked up to 50% or higher, get 2.5 hours of screen on time, music streaming and navigation going and get home at the end of the day with 40% left. :victory:

I'm not a fan of sense by any strech of the imagination... but im sure the devs can do something about that to where I wouldn't have to deal with that for too long.
I usually get a full day out of this device no matter what. I've only really tried two roms, mean and viper. Viper for me, had a more steady decrease rate where I could get 5-7 hours of screen on time during a day easily. I've not heavily used it since I've been on mean rom, although I usually hit 50% after 45-60 minutes of screen on time with mean.(Albeit this is over a full regular day's usage where my phone battery time would be between 9-11 hours)
Since I figure a follow up question will be the performance between the two, they perform about the same. The difference in performance for day to day usage is minimal at best. Either way both roms get a full day for my current usage.(Full day being 13-18 hours)
I think that it is pretty unanimous that the EVO has far superior battery life. Every review and person I've talked to say that.

I would have to say the evo 4g lte and galaxy s 3 (s4soc) has amazing battery life.I average 16-20 hours medium use!(facebook, instagram, browsing, calls, text, youtube) a friend of mine has the vz galaxy nexus, within the first week he had to buy the 3800ah? Siedo. His stock battery would die in 6-10 hours medium use. He also lost NFC during the battery swap.
This device even outlast my evo 3d with the 3000mah battery! At first I wondered why they permanently shoved a 2000mah battery inside, but honestly with efficient hardware the battery life was/is greater then I expected.
I'm on my phone all the time. Phone calls, texting, you tube videos, email, Facebook, etc. My screen is usually at 25%. I average about a 10% drop an hour during heavy use periods, with about 14 to 16 hours a day without having to charge.
