I saw that my device Xperia S (nozomi) has CM 9.0 and 9.1 under 'stable' category at get dot cm (I'm not allowed links, this is my first post).
Seeing the development forum here, I see CM 9.1 is being worked upon... so does that mean 9.0 is stable & released?
I'm not much aware about CM's release cycle, etc. also couldn't find a question here. If it exists, II'm sorry.
CM9.1 is the latest version for ICS, CM10 is the latest version for JB. The CM9 code base is stable, which means only bugfixes go in there. The CM10 code base is in development, which means new features and bugs can and will be added before release. Also, camera doesn't work on CM10, but it works on CM9.
Thread moved to Q & A section, post in the relevant section next time.

Ba2tf is a beta release by the Atrix dev. team, who originally ported CM7 to the Atrix; it includes Atrix specific fixes from the previous beta release.
The nightlys are released by the CyagonMod dev. team, based off of the work provided by the Atrix dev. team. The nightly updates include fixes, new test build ideas, etc. that have to do with CM7 in general, and may or may not include specific updates for the Olympus (aka the Atrix).
The nightlys and also the Atrix dev team beta builds have been suspended more or less, due to the fact that most of the members of both dev teams are allocating their resources towards working on getting CM9 out. Last estimate I herd of a release candidate for CM9 was something like April???
There are also weekly builds released by the Atrix dev. team (see corresponding thread in dev. section). These are kind of alike nightlys (except that they are weeklys ) released by the Atrix dev. team to try out fixes, new things, etc.
The most stable of the three choices you have to choose from is probably the beta build by the Atrix dev team (Ba2tf). Although, I've been using the most recent nightly for the last month or two and have had no problems. The most recent weekly has incorporated the fingerprint scanner into it.
If I have gotten any of the above info. incorrect, please feel free to correct me anyone.
thanks for the very thorough summary.
wow thank you very much! you have cleared all my doubts and even questions that I wanted to post later lol
This helped clear up a bunch of confusion for me - thank you
Sorry for the noob question.
Whats the difference between the following on the cyanogenmod download site
Nightly Cooper 02.09.12
RC1 Cooper
RC3 Cooper
Stable
I thought our device wasn't supported anymore but the nightly cooper is dates 02.09.12 ?
Thank you.
at first i was like: lets post a picard and riker double facepalm
but the i was like: no OT here. give serious answer!
the stable release is -very the suprising- the release labeled with "STABLE"! here afaik (used till 2 weeks ago) everything works fine.
the RCs are just "better betas". most of it works but sometimes it could be a bit buggy
and nightlys are either the first development steps/milestones or -like in this case, where there are nightlies newer than STABLE- they are just created by a bot every sunday. they are automated builds and sometimes contain new things. but as coolya said, there is nothing left to do on CM72 for ace.
tl:dr: dont care about the nightlies. use stable if you want a stable system for everyday use, where everything works without any problems!
No, Stable has some known bugs such as not able to answer call with earphones , the newer Nightly versions have solved that.
But true, seems like Coolya has given up our device and there is no new development for Cooper....
And btw, this is not the right section ,poat these kind of questions to Q & A plz

So we continue to work through the merger of 4.2 code and our CM enhancements. A branch in our github repos called mr1-staging has been created to facilitate the merger and is the target for core CM items (not features).
mr1-staging is not meant to be compile-able, its only purpose is to be a staging grounds for our core work. Chances are, it is useless for independent builders.
CM 10.0 (4.1.2) code is in jellybean-stable, if you are working on a bug-fix for the last stable release, patches should be submitted against that branch. If/when we do another 4.1.2 release (ie CM 10.0.x), it will originate from code in this branch.
Once staging is done in mr1-staging, we will push all that code to a 'CM10.1' branch, and eventually back to our primary 'jellybean' branch. This process is in place to make sure that we effectively move forward from CM 10.0 code, instead of starting over as was seen with the jump from Gingerbread to ICS. Patches from gerrit will be accepted towards CM 10.1, but for now, please have patience while we work through mr1-staging.
While the 4.2 updates are on a smaller scale, they do present some changes that will need to be considered and will effect our implementation of features. Just to name them briefly: Telephony Split, Multi-User, Quick Settings, and Lock-Screen Widgets. These items will be a strong focus when the initial CM10.1 branch is created.
On the feature front, David van Tonder (dvtonder) decided to make his weekend productive, and has already worked on the code for the majority of our MMS enhancements: Emoji support, sms split, gestures and templates, quick messaging. Notably MMS auto retrieve is not being forward ported as Google fixed that themselves. As stated above, patches will hit gerrit review after this staging process is completed.
As always, a timeline isn't and won't be available. We will continue to provide updates as we have them.

CM 10 is available for Neo/Neov ..but its not the stable release ..they are close to making a stable release .. So I guess we might get 10.1 too

Even if we get a stable Cm 10 ,it would be worth it and I think Fxp would do that!
As for Cm 10.1,it's been answered already ,it's not just worth the efforts n hassles!

We said it already several pages back CM10 is last release for 2011 devices
Those devices use an old kernel (2.6.32) and old blobs for camera (ICS)
So even making those work with cm10 (jellybean) was an real pain
To update kernel to 3.0 we will require 6+ months (not worth for an 2 year old SOC) limited in hardware and memory
Even if we take this effort this device will not be able to handle next version of android after 4.2 because it simply lacks RAM
Even for Jellybean we had to use legacy camera to be able to use camera in an proper way (with broken panorama)
What's the benefit of having latest android if your device is not able to use new features?
We will continue fixing cm10 and releasing weekly updates with latest JB progress

What does it take for a ROM to move from unofficial to official or is that not how it works? For example, I run cm11 official because its official. I would like to run cm12 but it says unofficial.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.. But... Unofficial is usually when someone compiles the build themselves and share. They sometimes add commits that have not been merged into official builds. Sometimes add add-ons that may not be supported in official builds. Sometimes a dev team may not have a maintainer for a specific official build. Most times unofficial builds aren't always as dependant as official. Sometimes they can be better.
As for CM 12. It went official last night. They are nightly builds, but they are official now. The thread is in the original development section. You can go to the CM site and it shows all the official 11 builds and then starting with 1/6 it is now on official 12 nightly. Hope that helps. ?
Just to clarify. The official CM11 thread is where to go for more info right now. Sure they will probably start a new one soon, but the link still takes you to CM and the latest build is the CM 12 from today 1/6. http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=vs985&type=nightly

CM dropped official support due to kernel stability issues. I remember we were discussing ROMs. 7.2 was, according to CM, the last stable version. Due to all the changes when everything became 4.0, the kernel became unstable on our device. Our devs have created a kernel that is stable enough for daily use, but not stable enough for an official CM. You do have CM9, 10, 10.1, 10.2, and 11 that are stable. CM12 needs work before being recommended for daily use.

Thanks for the information, glad to see that i can still get support for this device. :good:
I'm trying to get general information for the last 2 days, reading especially the Q&A and development sections in the forum . If i understood correct;
* There's a new kernel being developed named as [KERNEL] [3.1.10] as you mentioned in your post. This new kernel seems nearly perfect, it just has these 3 downsides regarding the given information on its own topic:
1) HDMI [post-poned] (Nvm, I don't need it)
2) Fingerprint ROM Libs+Framework [work in progress] (Nvm, I don't need it)
3) Flash [work in progress] (Camera flash? It would be nice, but still not mandatory for me)
So i thought i could try the newest unofficial CM releases based on this new kernel. I checked the most-used ones in the development section for CM11, CM10.1, CM10, CM9. But i learned a very disappointing thing in the posts. If it's true, although bluetooth is operable for data transfer, it is NOT working for voice, meaning that i won't be able to use it in my car. :crying:
Other negatives are not that important, but GSM calls over bluetooth is very necessary for me. Because it's a security issue, as most of all need to use our phones while driving! So i regrettably had to eliminate the CM Roms which use this new kernel for now!
I need a Rom that is stable enough and has a wide hardware support such as necessarily:
1) Calls over bluetooth
2) GPS
3) Wi-fi tethering (USB tethering is not important)
Plus; android version must be new enough to support some of the applications. I found out that i need at least CM10 (Android v4.1) for the applications that i need to install.
At the end i can summarize my choices as follows:
* CM7.2 based Roms: All of them seem very stable, but some of my applications doesn't work on Android 2.3, so negative.
* CM9 based Roms: New kernel or not, Android v4.0 is old for a few of my applications. So, negative.
* CM10 based Roms: "CM10 (JellyBean) for Atrix" from @epinter seems very appropriate for me. It doesn't use the new kernel and Android v4.1 is sufficient (recent enough) for my applications. POSITIVE
* CM10.1 based Roms: "CM 10.1(Android 4.2) for Atrix" from @epinter could be very good, but it uses the new kernel. So, negative.
* CM11 based Roms: "CM 11 ( Android 4.4.4 ) for Atrix (BigPart)" from @Zn7mkUKzN1r8aCIV would be perfect, but i think it also uses new kernel, as it's indicated that ".BT phone call" is NOT working. So, negative.
* CM12 based Roms: I saw the "Mokee For Atrix 4g (Android L 5.0.2) (preview)", but as you see, it's not an option for me yet. So, negative.
If i didn't misunderstood what i've read till now, the most appropriate Rom seems;
"CM10 (JellyBean) for Atrix, By epinter" for me.

I think it would be better for me to continue on its own Q&A thread, I don't want to ruin this CM7.2 thread anymore.
Please share your opinions, i really need your advises.
EDIT: Oopss, basic kernel on CM10 seems lacking HW acceleration. So, i can't play NFS Most Wanted, Dead Space, Max Payne etc. games properly, right? What about navigation apps like iGo, Sygic, etc?
EDIT: This post was originally in the "CM7 Q&A" section and moved here as a seperate thread. My aim is not to find the "Best Rom ever" etc., i just seek for a Rom that's similar to the current awesome CM7, which fits my needs. I think i could find the best title for this post.
