Typically you need:
Your username/password
mail server name
Domain name
and an email address
That should be enough to get ya setup.

Hi Guys,
I am running the Phoenix 3.0 Rom based on WM6.5 I believe.
On the boxed rom I could sync with my hotmail account fine. Now with this ROM, any attempt to use hotmail as your email account forces you to use windows live and web interface to your email (horrible).
I got around this issue by using the help from this forum and not putting the word 'hotmail' into the email address and then telling the settings to use pop and smtp servers that are the ones used by hotmail.
However, now I get copies of my hotmail emails to my phone but not a proper sync. ie. I get the same emails on my phone as I do on the web but if i read or delete them on my phone, I still have to do the same on the web. Can anyone tell me a fix for this or am I stuck with having to manage the same emails in both places?
Thanks.

Is ther a way to download the entire message, with graphics, by default.
And all the contents of my folders??
Thanks.
Please ask questions specific to a certain ROM in that ROM's thread. Helps keep things neater here.

Unfortunately that doesn't work. It's asking for Protocol imap server, server port??? help pls
The error message i get is as follows "Cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account infor. Your server is not responding"
Bloody hotmail!!!
My girlfriend has just got a hero and in the shop I was saying "yeah, you'll be able to collect your hotmail email fine"
However, it appears that you need to upgrade to a hotmail plus account for £14.99 per year to let you collect hotmail emails via pop3 or imap. While that's not a lot, I didnt want to have to pay it if I dont have to.
So I set up email forwarding from her hotmail account to the google account setup on her Hero.
Normally, you cant forward emails from hotmail to non-hotmail or microsoft hosted domains without having the Hotmail plus account
Then I stumbled accross this at android community forums, posted by somone called 71CH so credit goes to them.
* Login to your Hotmail account
* Go to options
* Go to "Mobile Alerts for new messages" under the "Customize your mail" heading
* Type in your mobile phone number
* You'll then receive a text message with a pin number
* Type in the pin number
* Then select the option telling Hotmail Not to send you any text messages
* Go back to options and click on "Forward mail to another e-mail account"
* You'll now see that the restrictions for forwarding are now gone
* You can forward to any account you please.

I've just done this 10mins ago and it is working fine
try this setting..not sure if it's gonna work..or just forward your email to a gmail account
POP server: pop3.live.com
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example [email protected]
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes
Thanks will give that a try
i think a couple of months back, POP3 access was enabled on all hotmail accounts.
That's the same work around for the iPhone the only problem is when you sign into hotmail on the web the emails come up as not viewed.

HTC - Hotmail
I've got Hotmail to send emails to my phone, no probs.
But, my phone won't send hotmail emails out, can someone pls tell me how to resolve all this..?
My emails from my msn account sync fine when I first add the account to the touchpad email client. After I close the program and go back to it though it stops syncing new emails. The refresh icon constantly is revolving as well. I tried setting up the account through the auto setup and also through the microsoft exchange and the same thing happens either way. New msn emails show up on my iphone and then I wait and check the touchpad. They never show up. Any ideas?
I googled the problem and found one instance of someone having the same problem as me. Follow the link http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touchpad/295126-proper-hotmail-settings-touchpad-help.html
No one there seemed to be able to answer the question. Anyone here have any ideas?
My MSN mail syncs just fine along with my Yahoo Mail. WebOS set up a POP folder in my MSN account the first time it linked. Not sure why some are having issues. I just thought I would let you know that, at least for some of us, the MSN mail works fine.

Is your account an @msn.com or @hotmail.com. Mine is @msn.com. Not sure if it makes a difference or not.

Mine is a MSN account.
problem solved
If anyone else is having this problem, it is solved. A user from the HP forums gave me the correct settings on how to set it up. For the server name, make sure you leave the https:// before the m.hotmail.com. These settings worked perfectly and I have not had a problem receiving MSN emails since.
"Is this a hotmail.com or live.com account? If so you need to set the account up as an exchange account with theses settings:
*
Account Type: Exchange
Server Name: m.hotmail.com
User Name: your entire email address
Password: your password
*
Under accounts you need to choose the items you want to sync: Mail, Calendar, Contacts, GAL (address lookup). I would delete out the account and re-create it fresh."

I read that if you set it up as an exchange account your emails will be shown only in text and not in html (with images, etc.), which sucks.

Yeah that is the one downfall but if you read the initial post I couldn't receive any emails at all. So I guess this is the next best solution until something else surfaces. Let me know if you find a better way to get msn to receive emails on the touchpad.
I just got set up with a new outlook.com email address and want to have it sync on my Evo LTE. However, it seems like it won't sync up. Anyone have the settings needed to have it work properly?
Thanks!

Are you setting it up as "Microsoft Hotmail" or anything else?
Edit: I should add that it has to be set up as "Microsoft Hotmail" account, because it's the same service. I just set mine up, and all it asked for was my username and password.

I tried as hotmail and as activesync. Either way, I can get it to allow the settings and act like it is set up (no errors), but then it fails when it tries to actually sync up.

I've added mine, and the only email that I got was the welcome email. It was already in my inbox on the site, but took awhile after adding it to my phone before it showed up. I'm also unable to send any email. Let me look into this a little further. It appears that it may be the server settings, but they're unable to be changed. I'll see what I can find.
I could not get my hotmail to sync either with the microsoft hotmail setup. I set mine up using choosing other and setting up as pop3. Enter in email address, password, and click next (do not choose manual setup). It should work!
That's right, you should be able to add Hotmail via IMAP if needed. I'm not sure why a separate Hotmail sync engine is included on Sense 4.0
There is a known issue with Hotmail syncing to these phones via the Hotmail mail-sync shortcut. Well documented issue, in fact(just saying this so you don't feel alone ).
You need to use the IMAP email setup to get it to work.
The bummer is, I REALLY would like to get my hotmail calendar synced up with my phone! I can't figure that out. This sort of thing should be VERY streamlined by now. Seems like only BlackBerry knows how to do this correctly.

Another option is the hotmail app. It works and can do push or scheduled sync.

THANK YOU this was driving me crazy, I didnt want to have the hotmail app as well as the mail app.
Hi everyone. I've had a look around and couldnt find the answer to my question.
Basically I have a website and I use Google to provide a custom email address. For example if my website was XDA then my email address would be [email protected]
I've tried and failed to add my email address to the email app on Android. My previous two phones were iPhones and they had no problem with the email address, they added the custom email address easily.
It seems weird to me that Apple's iOS accepts Google's custom email addresses as standard but Google' Android doesnt seem to. Could anyone help me set this up? I'm sure I'm not the only one!
hey there
just add a google account and use your personal settings should be good to go.

I know it works in Gmail but I wanted it to work in the default email app. I found a way to do it.
1. Put in your email and password
2. Select imap
3. change imap to imap.gmail.com
4. Security type SSL
5. Press Next
6. Check it's set to smtp.gmail.com
7. Security type SSL
and then it works in the default app
