I have Xperia Ray with Software 4.0.A.2.368 which I ONLY Rooted.
I am getting messages that a New Update 4.0.2.A.0.42 Available.
1) Should I Update my Phone to newest version? I heard 4.0.2.A.0.42 is giving Reboot loops and problems
2) I am already Rooted on 4.0.A.2.368, If I have to Update, I should do with PC companion or Some OTHER method?
3) Is the Root for 4.0.2.A.0.42 available? I want to remain Stock but just Rooted. Nothing else.

Well thanks... That was I guess the best help I could get here... I guess this section isnt much helpful...
I am HTC user and not used Sony much before.. My brother got Xperia Ray and he wanted to install some rooted applications that my HTC has with Latest OTA...
I didnt know much about Sony so therefore I called for help... I had to spend almost 6 hours to learn everything about it MYSELF.. First 4 hrs spent on solving the problem that FlashTool was just searching for my Mobile and Not detecting it..I couldnt even Update it..:-S
Atlast I had to update via Wifi.. i didnt want to do in first case coz I was afraid of Bricking it via OTA which I read in many threads here.. But then Had to take risk..
You guys cud hav saved me 6 hrs by just spending 5 mins on replying me what to do...

First of all dont create new threads without searching. 99.9% times the solution is already there.
Secondly follow these steps in the thread below and you'll have stock unrooted ICS back.

If PCC or SEUS still say that you are on latest fw, only thing you can do is flash .ftf file with flash tool.
For more info read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678690
Before update, you can save your original CDF number if you ever wanna go back to original fw, which you have now on your phone. If yes, then read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604559
Can any one tell me how to unroot my neo v as i am facing touch screen problem
and going to service centre
i 've rooted it with Doomlord toolkit for ICS and now i have 4.0.4
is flashing is the last resort
Does flashing ftf will give service centre guys a hint that it has been flashed as ftf SI no. won't be matching
or is there doomlord unrooting toolkit i've seen unrooting toolkit fom doomlord in GB
plz
Please anyone give me proper solution for this so it didn;t get messd up with my warranty
One more thing
i've also tried sony companion it says u have lastest version of software and is it possible that i've change build.prop to older android version so it gets updated from sony companion if yes then which line would i have to edit
Sorry i'm still a noob in this forum
When PCC says that you have latest version, there is option to click on repair, which will make clean flash.
Thanks for the reply
here are the screen shots
i've that repair after that its showing no updates for your phone
sorry this one
this one
ooopss

same problem with it also screen shot uploaded
is it possible if i flashed GB .62 kernel or ICS .562 then it will update
if yes then can i use your ftf flashable (only kernel) file posted in your previous post
Flashing only kernel, won't help us in your case. At least I think it wont
Hm, so since you are afraid if they will see wrong fw on your phone, I take that you never flashed any ftf? Meaning you still have your stock fw+root?
In that case I wouldn't go for .ftf flashing if you wanna keep your original firmware.
I would just wait a day or two, or even less then a day to try again with PCC.
Okkkk
Ok. then i'll wait any way thanks for your replies

The same method has an Unroot option. If you haven't made any too many modifications to the system , you can just UnRoot and flash OTA with PCC.
If you have made quite a few changes, or are on some Custom Rom, you could flash The ICS FTF , and upgrade from there. The Stock ICS thread is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914264. It's official ICS, so you can update officially. This is recommended, but you will probably lose all settings and data.
thanks for the info and is there any cm9 or cm10 thats working/stable version for the xperia p/u/go/sola?

FXP is working on it : http://code.google.com/p/freexperia/. Hopefully we'll be in their next release, and it will come pretty soon The Sola, U and Go that is. I think there is a working cm9.1 for the P, but I'm not sure how stable it is. Check in the P forums for more.
thank you and i am going to try bin4y root v13.
