[Q] SIM issue in JB custom roms - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since I'm a senior member in this website and I can't ask a question direcly to developers, I came an idea to post this thread. This past month I'ved flash and tried 6 different 4.1.1 jelly bean custom roms (Cyanogenmod10, Omega, Pure AOSP, ReVolt, SuperNexus, RR). I won't say which one suites me (because I must not) but I had an issue with the 5 of them. Sometimes the SIM's pin pops up and I can't make a call, asking me to enter pin. This can happen once an hour, or once every 3 hours and its really annoying. Tried to search for sollution in threads but I didn't find anyone mentioning any fix. I event fixed RIL (with getRIL app), when I read in a thread that made has something to do with it, but no change.
Has anyone the same issue, say with Omega 7.0 or Cyanogenmod10 and if yes what is the solution (if there is one)?

I've tired the latest cm10. I've been running my phone for 13 hours and I've got no SIM issue whatsoever. Thank you.:good:

Should I change my ROM to CM or should I keep the default one?

I want to avoid the sudden death because I don't have warranty for this phone (at least not in my country). Also do you think the current default ROM is slow?
I think that samsung roms are slow...they have butter and smoothness but the lags and delays are really annoying.I never tried a cm/aokp/aosp rom on this phone but I think I will.

Sudden death is fixed in the latest Firmwares. If You want an aosp look but full features of stock rom I recommend Sotmax Rom it allows an aosp skin over Samsung framework if selected in aroma. It is also buttery smooth with minimal lags. been using it a while now and the phone is faultless... at least until I smashed my screen anyway lol

this is my problem. Should I keep my custom ROM or not? I am new to my S3, totally.
and some says that Samsung didn't confirm that the latest update fixes sudden death.

They didn't confirm it. But all latest official and custom roms contain the supposed fix so it's completely up to you.

[Q] CM10.1 nightly camera fix?

Yes, I've tried to search forums, and all I got were messages people telling they flashed cm camera fix via recovery mode, but couldn't find any info regarding where to download it or even if it is available or something like that.
I bought this phone today, so I will appreciate any help.
Previously I had a Galaxy R, with same problems until they fixed it.
Many thanks!
The camera can never be fixed.

I found the problem.
My samsung galaxy have a new firmware not packed with nightly builds, but after more and more search (once I found the serial number of camera FW) I found it:
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-590
That provides a firmware binary file which fixed the issue for me, and possible others.
Just that I don't know whom to contact to ask that binary to be included in next nightly/version.
I post it here to help others too with possible same problem.

Yes I have read that though I still don't have problems.
Do you know the best way to asknfor this bin file to be added to cm? It could really be usefull for others with new S3 to have camera working out of the box.

I have found that my ZD camera works fairly consistently. I've been pleased with the progress the team has made, but I also updated the camera's firmware manually from stock ROM before flashing to CM 10.1, which I've been running for a while now.
Tried nearly all third-party camera apps, and I just prefer the stock one. After simply snapping a picture without touch focus, touch focus will then work perfectly. Having done so, it's nearly impossible to tell the difference between the two focus methods on the final output photos.

Try gently asking in the CM discussion thread in the general forum but don't expect anything and don't ask several times.

Help!!

Guys, whenever I try a custom ROM on my S3 (intl), I cant hear any calls I make, but the people on the other side can hear me!
But when I return to stock the problem vanishes!
Is there any solution to this problem?

first time I heard this kind of issues, have you tried making a full wipe after flashing??
also try with an unbranded rom from samsung and see if the issue persists, if not check with the rom developer
Is your phone a carrier SIM locked phone?

Got same problem
Hi!
I've got the very same problem myself.
Solution: when your phone boots, do something to make it beep (like playing around with volume). If the first sound after boot is not a call - it works.
Second, check your Baseband version. Sadly, I can't now remember which one CM10.1 use (I may look int it and post additionally if you're interested). You may need to update either baseband to match CM built-in RIL or flash RIL that matches your baseband after each firmware update. I do second option, but I will recommend using first if you're not a dev
Third, latest CM10.1 nightly (20130711) is totally broken for me - I use 20130709 now

it is a LEAK as you said. it consumes heavy ram as it is a beta firmware and hence lagging is common. try using GREENIFY if the phone is rooted.

I am using Imperium 14.1 which is based on the last Leak firmware XXUFME7 with Android 4.2.2. - have been on it a couple of days but it's been ok so far. I've only really used it for day to day stuff like web, email, video, music, sat-nav etc, etc (i don't play games on my phone).
May be worth a try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37656328&postcount=21

GT-I9300 4.3 update? Yes or no ?

Hey guys,
What's your experience with 4.3 update ? It seems like a lot of people are complaining about it.
Is it a go or should i stay with 4.0.4?
I want to update to 4.3 only because of buttery-smooth performance that Google claims it to be after the update
I know that first OTA update was a complete dissaster but after that Samsung released a fix for it, so is it really fixed with that new update or it's still buggy ?
So what's your opinion ? Should i update or stay on 4.0.4 or perhaps wait for 4.4?
I hope 4.4 will have much less problems
Thanks in advance,
Slim Shady
