[Q] Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 I8160L+SD CARD - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
As u can see in the title, I own a Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 I8160L.
It has 4gb internal storage but only about 1.1gb user available. Most of the more exciting games have data that are 1.5gb and more.
Is there a way to install these games and have the sd data go to my external micro sd card and not the internal 1.1gb 'sd card'?
Thanks in advance, Nate

Are you root? Because you could try Directory Bind

Im not rooted as yet. And im not familiar with directory bind. Will look it up tho.

Is there any root free solution tho? I will root but only as a laat resort
Sent from my GT-I8160L using Tapatalk 2

Yeah, I am also looking for some root free method to swap sd card and external card in my galaxy ace 2.
I dont really know why in samsung phones our external sd card is nt treated as an sd card.
I had htc one v prior to this phone and atleast one good thing abt that phone was it would move apps to external sd card not to internal storage like samsung phones.
Now with this phone (galaxy ace 2), external sd card size is quite irrelevant for apps, coz this phone counts the internal usb storage which is only 1GB as sd card.
Anyways if u find any root free method to swap storage, plz post it here too.
Thanks.

you must root your phone then you could use the lidroid or GL2SD move game data to your SDCARD

Thanks for your response.
But I donot want to root my phone :-$
I am not expert at it, so dont want to take the risk. Plus this phone has a little community, so in case if something goes wrong with rooting, it might become difficult to find help...
I think I wld have to bear this storage issue. :-S

I think rooting is my only solution to get sd data to work from my sd card. But im not sure my model is root-able. I have the I8160L, can't even find the original firmware online

Did u try it? Does it move the app to external card? Or to the usb/internal storage?
And i think (not sure) as far as app data is concerned, it does not take too much of storage, so it shd not be an issue.
And i m not an expert in rooting, so i think i wont go for it. But lets see.
Sent from my GT-I8160 using xda app-developers app

Yea it works for most apps. And if not. When u move them to the sd card thru the app manager they move to the external storage. This doesn't apply to system apps or the large sd data files that accompany those huge games that need additional data.
Sent from my GT-I8160L using Tapatalk 2

Okay right.
Actually the problem is when we go to settings-apps-sd card, it shows the usb/internal storage there, not the actual external sd card. So when i move any app to sd card (which is moveable), it is moves to the internal usb storage (which the phone considers as sd card storage).
But i ll give this trick a try.
And one last thing how did u confirm it that with this trick, apps are now being moved to external storage and not to the internal usb storage?

Checked the storage before and after moving apps. And also i took my sd card out. Put it in a card reader and found the apps in a folder on the micro sd card called android secure

Solution to this is rooting, and using directory bind. I currently have asphalt 7(1.4gb) Real racing 2, Dead Space, Shadow Gun etc installed and running fine from my external sd card

GB
Jellycream rom will sort that out, it swaps the vold file and you will be able to download bigger files.

can i?
can i play games form external sd card like games 1.8 and .15 gb ?

Nice

Sd card partition

What is sd card partition..i am having a samsung galaxy fit running Android 2.3.6..there's a great memory problem as there is only 180mb memory...i want to know what is sd card partition...is it something like some of my pexternal memory will become my phone memory??

Not exactly. Using a partition and an appropriate tool (such a2sd script or something else), your apps will be installed in the partition instead the internal memory of your phone.

The apps will be completely stored in the sd card or some part of it will be stored likewise in 2.2 and further Android versions??

Only a part of app is moved to 2nd partition...
But its clears much of memory from phone's internal memory..

Then what is the use my phone is running 2.3.6 which supports app2sd...so what is the benefit??

It saves up even more space...and a2sd scripts by DarkTremor makes file reading from sd card faster when compared to the conventional GB method...

If u r rooted,by link2sd u can even move some of the system apps .. and even remove some stock.apps...

are u rooted? by partitioning ur sd card (fat32) you get external (ext 3,4) partition. this externel partition adds to ur internal memory (virtually). hence you can hv more apps. to activate this ext partition u need scripts like dta2sd,link2sd,m2sd etc. search for it and you will get more info.
for partiton u can use recovery or u can do it in pc using any partition managers.

I remember i read somewhere that you can put data files on internal memory or SD Card. Basically you have 2 /Android/data folders, so i think it's possible.
But I'm askin' about EXTERNAL SD.: I mean that card with memory which you place in the phone yourself. It can be Kingston, for example.

Some fails wasn't copied, fixed that and now it wants to download addional fails from internet, but i have them in my external sd card. Any ideas how to make it work?
I try it out, and everythink is fine.
I put datas at SD-Card. The game is still working :good:
Of course 700Mb is too much for internal card.
directorybind
use directorybind, i know what your talking about moving that 1gb worth of game data to external sd card right? then this is the perfect app for you search for it on xda: directorybind

Files from SD card not viewable

Anyone have any issues with your SD card from your previous device not showing the files that are on it?
I know they are there because the card says 3 gigs free of 14....came from my Fascinate.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
It could be formatting issues with the Sd card. Also sometimes Sd cards won't work going from one device to the other. Try transferring/backing up your files from the Sd card to your computer than reformat the Sd card, transfer you're backed up files to the freshly formatted Sd card. Finally put the Sd card back into your phone and you should be able to access your files.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
and when you reformat the sd card(after saving to pc 1st), format to fat32 w/ active partition manager. not sure if youre rooted yet but this helps w/ cwm recovery. the exfat file system from windows and format sdcard feature w/ the phone gave me trouble.

What's SD card partition

What happens by partitioning SD card.
What us it exactly
Sent from my Xperia Neo V using xda app-developers app
All medium-low android phones have the limited internal storage. If you will install many apllications on your android phones, your internal storage maybe will decrease and affected the phone performace. So, you need to install your applications on your external storage/SD Card. That's why there is a partition of the SD Card. This method allows you to sacrifice a part of the memory of the SD card to install applications on the partition created, and save internal memory
Partition=split
So partitioning the SD card is splitting the SD card

It basically as other said means dividin ur sd card. What's it's use u say?
I hav a Xperia Neo V and Pro along with 5 other SE phones. But unlike my Sola the older Neo V has only 400 Mb for apps of which only 250 mb is available after bloatware crap. So i partion my SD card and install "Link2SD" and BAM!! i now moved all appd to SD by that i mean fully moved not just the move to SD card option in ur Manage applications menu. I now hav 343Mb free for apps after having 62 apps installed.

Can i do partition internal storage ?

Hi.
Can i make something like partition on internal storage? i have i9300 16GB internal and it woyld me nice to make 2-3 partition like C, D, E for games, apps, photo. Or game and apps, photo, rest and maybe protect before changing roms. I liek to change roms but its so bored installing all the times the same apps.
Also i want to buy mini sd card but waiting for answer bcs i dont know what to buy and ill install every apps and game on sd card so before change rom ill still have on sd card.
Don't mess with the internal storage, it isn't an sd card and you'll hard brick the phone.
Put everything on your external sd, leave the internal as empty as possible -this will reduce wear on the nand memory.

When changing roms you still would have to reinstall all games, nevermind if on internal or external sd. Just use Titanium Backup to make it easy and as said don't touch internal memory!

I don't think so as the base app or at least some parts is still installed in internal memory whereas e. G. Save games you could copy to external and copy back later if you can find the files.
