hey guys this is my first thread seen as i cannot find any answers. in a nutshell, i have an s3 that is rooted purely to unlock it. im not too fussed as yet to get the fancy capabilitys in full throttle on a rooted device until i solve one problem.. just hear me out. if you need specifics on my phones firmware ect ask away and ill do my best. but all i can say is this..
i have had a galaxy s3 for a week now. the first thing i did was root it as it was locked. as far as i know i did it right, since it did unlock it and add the supersu icon and CWM icon. as for now i dont want to start messing with stuff like that until i know what im doing. and honestly i only just managed to root the thing after failing the first time. so my real problem so far is something i have heard of with no solution. the wifi and lock screen crash. ive sussed out that for every time i leave the house and go to work (that doesnt have wifi) and my wifi is left switched on, my lockscreen just will not let me in my phone with out me taking the battery out and turning the wifi off manually.
i need help. big help. i need to know waht im doing and doing wrong. i need a fix. a custom firmware a custom rom. what ever it is. i would be so greatful not to have this bug. and ill be honest. it took me 2 days to work it out. i work 9 hours a day and taking my battery 10 times and hour.. yeah.. please help me guys id be so appreciative of it.
thanks. danny.
As a last resort you could try a factory reset. You will lose all your data though and have to set things up from scratch.
Before going to that extreme you could enter recovery, then clear cache, then go to advanced settings and clear dalvik cache plus fix permissions. These are cure all solutions but they may help.

I had this problem and it is down to the method you use time root.
If you use the toolkit method it will cause this problem
but if you use CF-root to unlock your s3 you will have no problems at all.
You can find CF-root with a simple search hope this helps

Thanks guys I'll give these a go when I'm able to after work. I have infact done a factory reset that didn't undo the root. I'll post back on either success (hopefully) or if my problem persists. I really appreciate your advice.
Thanks in advance. Danny.
Good luck.
As your problem appears to be caused by leaving WiFi on you might try this app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801284
I've been using it since early beta release. It can switch WiFi off when your screen is off. Obviously it will not cure your problem but it might be a work around.

hey guys. i gave them both a try. i cleared my caches. i even fully unrooted my phone. did a reset. and installed the root the CF-root package.
but still. im having the same problem. i really am new to this. and i just dont know what to do. all i need the root for is to keep my phone unlocked. i dont care for any fancy thing you can do once rooted. i think im just going to wait till a new software comes out that can be rooted.
hopefully it will have fixed the bug or something. really appreciate the advice you guys have given me. thank you a lot.
i guess until then ill have to remember to turn my wifi off before i go out :/
thanks. danny.
Unroot by flashing your original or a stock rom and test is the only way forward .

My SGS2 is rebooting itself 3 or 4 times a day, I'll do a quick reflash but I noticed it happened even before I rooted with the KDD kernel but didn't think anything of it.
Has anyone else noticed random reboots and is there a log file or app which can help diagnose the issue?

A quick search for 'random reboot' reveals:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059129&highlight=random+reboot
C'mon lad...first rule of the book: Use search!
no prob, I only did a lazy search, ie I just looked through recent posts.
If no one else is having an issue then its likely to be an app I have installed, I had thought it might be linked to me uninstalling the samsung hub stuff? But that was after rooting.
I'll flash the new firmware and see if it goes away.
Mods please feel freer to delete our close the thread.

I would definitely do a factory reset if all else fails
That's probably my thread...
I was getting lots of reboots on original firmware and factory reset didn't help....
However I uodated to xdd (full rom, not the root kernel) and it hasn't happened since!
Reflashed this morning with the kdf rom, had no reboots since

which are the roms "kdf" and "xdd"
sorry I'm new in samsung
thanks for any help
random reboots
And i wan't to know what xdd and kdf means.and a link with this rom's as weel if someone pleases.I have a problem with quick auto reebots as well and i haved istalled lots of diferent rooms with and the problem still there.plese help!
Many, including myself, have narrowed it down to Dolphin HD. Others to having apps installed to SD.

in my case none of the problems you said is my problem.i'v restord it to factory settings, flashed 2.3.4 kg1,2.3.5 k2/j3/ki3,cum rom light'ning v6.1,and now i flashed 2.3.3 xwkdf to see if this firmware solvs the problem.
Same here
Hi,
I had the Samsung Galaxy Y pro GT-B5510 random reboot problem. I'm a PhD CompSci very comfortable with flasing roms etc.
I tried everyting I could think of and I mean everyting a PhD CompSci could think of.
The last thing I tried:
With clockworkmod, I tested all my keys. (My Phone has physical keyboard) and all keys where OK!
Then I tried the clear dalvik cache and fix permissions.
It did not work, 2 minutes later a random reboot. aaaahgggg
Confident that not the SD card or firmware is the cause of this problem, I knew my Phone had a defect.
So I took my Phone, and I know this is not a scientific method. But a method that seems to work on electronics from time to time.
SOLUTION:
-With my knuckles, I bashed the backside of my Phone a few times, pretty hard I might add, NEVER be too gentle with electronics!
Now my pone has not rebooted a single time for over 18 Hrs. and still going strong! And it is so fast with Next Launcher! Amazing! That is one amazing launcher!! I cracked it, and I won't tell how, but you should buy this launcher, and I will as soon there is a payment method that works for me on the Android market. The memory management of this launcher is the best in the world!!
If this problem ever returns, I will try the bashing method first, could save me days of work.... LOL
And this is actually a very good method, it works on TV's on Radio's, it works on Android Phone's randomly rebooting, and most other electronics. It is reported to help on airplane, space shuttle, helicopter and warp drive engine control panels lol. ect. ect.
Really;
Just try this method, if you are going desperate! I have so many good experiences with this method, you can't deny it works often!!
Sometimes I think it is just a flipflop hanging, and the shock might shake it lose. So this method is actually more scientific then you think. <-- Physical shocks are known to fix electronics and chips sometimes!
So bash your Phone good and see if your problem is solved! Do not damage the Phone, just a few good hard knocks!
A few pretty hard knuckle bashes on the back of you Phone, won't damage it. It is fast, so it is worth a try! And that goes for all electronics with mysterious problems...
I am sooooo happy my Phone does not reboot anymore. You have no Idea! I don't care I had to bash it a little, IT WORKS like a charm!!
All my education..... and the method that works is simple bashing... How Ironic.
It is still running, if I do not post or modify this, I still have not got the random reboot problem back!
Trust me bashing now confirmd; Might solve random Android reboots! You have a good chance it will work!
whoooooo so happy now!!!
Just for fun, if this method fixed your problem don't forget to reply here, and thank me, I'm curious just how good a method bashing is!
I have searched and searched, but can not find what seems to be an applicable fix, so here goes.
Ok here is my best description. Equipment: Rooted vibrant. The plot: Rooted. Ran fine for months. Yesterday purchased Rom Manager premium. Installed one of the premium roms. Can't remember the name of the rom. After install everything worked fine except I kept getting the error, "com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly" so I tried everything I could find related to that problem to fix it, but nothing worked. As a symptom the market, gmail, etc wouldn't work. Anyway I figured I'd just recover the last rom that I backed up and start over. So I did, but now the phone boots, goes to the "draw pattern to unlock screen" and won't recognize the fact that I'm actually drawing the pattern to unlock the screen. The "buttons" on the bottom of the screen recognize my touch (menu, home, search, back) as they darken when touching them.
So there the phone sits on the unlock screen. After a minute or two the screen goes blank, the phone vibrates once, and the unlock screen comes back and won't accept any input.
Is this fix applicable, or would it work in bringing my phone back to me?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737
I want to make sure as I don't want to further exacerbate the uselessness of my phone. I feel like I've lost a limb with it gone.
Thanks for any help.
Sorry to hear you found the worst gremlin of all. I'll get that from time to time when my phone feels like being stupid. Lucky for me, I can just reboot the phone, and she's back to normal.
As far your situation is concerned, I would probably try to use Odin and flash your phone back to stock so you can build it back up to whatever ROM you're on. This usually happens when you bounce back and forth between a froyo and GB ROM; or a ROM from a different dev that's used a different framework to make all his stuff work.
Jump into the link in my sig, and see if you can find the files you need. Otherwise, shoot me a message so I can link you to the files I use to go back to stock pre-rooted.
Lol, did you try this?

Odin to stock, check the stickie about how to do so... it will solve your problem almost for sure... above all, dont panic, youll be allright

OK. The sticky worked. I admit I panicked, but IT WORKS NOW!! I'm just ecstatic! You guys rule.
I guess I was just gun shy. I bricked the snot out of my my-touch a year ago (still doesn't work).
Anyway, on to hacking.
Thanks again!
Awesome! Glad you got it werkin
Next time just try a simple Google search of the error itself.
*EDIT*
If you still have the mytouch I'd be interested in it. PM me if so
Yeah I tried to google the problem, but I was still stuck. None of the fixes seemed to work. Until google led me here.
I do still have the my touch. Mint condition, minus the fact it doesn't work! I'd like to get it working again if possible. Is there a way to odin the my touch? I tried and tried last year when I bricked it, but I never got it to work again. Is there a my touch forum here somewhere named something other than "my touch"?

Hi
Recently my S2 just stopped reading my SIM when I was going to call someone. Since then it has refused to read my SIM, or any other SIM for that matter.
To fix this problem I've tried resetting the phone to factory settings (in 3 different ways ( hard-reset.com/samsung-i9100-galaxy-s2-hard-reset.html )) with no luck.
I've also tried installing alternative ROM's, but with the same result.
The phone was already rooted with an insecure kernel when this happened, so warranty is long gone.
Though, one thing I did realize was that even though I did hard-reset the phone several times, some of the settings on the phone remained untouched, like my locking pattern and a few other settings. Does this mean that hard-resetting the phone isn't really an actual hard-reset? If that's so, is there any way to properly 100% reset the phone?
In short; I'm running out of options on how to fix this. I refuse to believe it's hardware related, just because I'm stubborn like that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated (really).

You can refuse to believe in gravity too, but falling from high distances will still hurt.
If you tried more than one SIM in the phone and none work, but those same SIMs work in other phones, than more than likely, it is hardware related.
Did you check you imei?
078gregory brings up a good point. So if it's not missing IMEI info, THEN it's likely hardware.
Isn't it funny how everything suddenly works itself out once you cry out for help?
Today I've been trying around 10 different ROM's on the phone. Custom and stock. As one last attempt I gave a random ICS 4.0.3 march ROM a last try, and guess what. I got the SIM prompt. I can not believe it. So yeah, it's working now. I have no idea what caused it, but I believe the phone was stuck in flight mode somehow, and just needed an extra push to get out.
Either way, it's working like a charm now. Thanks for the replies though.

Hi people. I have the same problem Habitats decribes. Mi s2 is stuck in flightmode and cant get out! i have reset the phone in every kind of way but no succes. Now i read here on this forum that flashing my phone to ICS 4.0.3 can help solve the problem. I'm on 2.3.6 now. This flightmode thing happened al over sudden. I have done nothing strange with the phone. Its not rooted either. I was planning to go to a samsung servicepoint and let them check whats wrong. But now i read this thread and see that i can relate to this problem of Habitats. I think a also will try to flash ICS 4.0.3 and watch what happens. But theres another problem. KIES don't recognize my phone anymore so what can i do? Can someone please help me out? Thanks in advance
I'm having the exact same problem, could you please tell me which rom worked for you Habitats? Thanks in advance!
Update:Last tuesday i went to the vodafone store were they have a samsung service department also. I explained my problem to them but they don't seem to recognize the problem. Although i read that many people here at xda's and over the internet have similar issues with this phone.Strange! So they sent it to the repair centre. Yesterday i could see in the track and trace menu of the repair centre that my fone was ready and send back to the vodafone store. Status: Boardswap. So they swapped the whole board! Didn't know that the problem was that serious! So i hope i can pickup my galaxy s2 soon this coming week!! I can't wait!I'm on my old HTC Touch HD now. Its ok with the windows but on Android....Arggghh!! Whatsapp is a pain and more. Its so laggy!. I will give an update soon again!
Hi everyone,
i don't know if someone already encountered this but sometimes my GS3 does not respond when i try to wake him up. (it's not turned off just standby). The screen stays black en nothing works. One time the screen did woke up but i couldn't unlock it because the touchscreen didnt work. It could not be turned off and the buttons didn't do anything! The only way for me to get out of this was a battery pull!
I did not root or modify anything on this phone because i like the stock samsung TW for the first time .
Did anyone else have this problem? And how did u solve this? Thank u.
Possibly due to an app you have installed.

Thank u i didn't thought of that. Is their an easy way to find out wich app this could cause? I still find it very weird. If an app is not compatible than it just shouldnt install intead of breakin the phone right? XD
This happened me last night as well. Couldn't do anything other than turn the phone off, and when it came back on it was fine again.
Unrooted as well. Would like to find out how I can prevent this from happening again?
if you are not sure about the root cause of the problem better factory reset your mobile

Yes, if it happens again than i will try that. But i already sent the unit back from were i ordered it. They will send me a new one because its their policy to send a new one if something happens in 2 weeks.
So i will see if it still occurs with the new one otherwise its one of my apps. Than i will install only a few apps and see what causes it. If it doesnt occur one more thime than the unit was faulty. Ill keep u guys updated.

Did it happen once? My phone had it like 3 times so thats why i sent it back. But if it still occurs with my new phone than it must be one of the apps i got Luckily they got DOA policy. I asked if it includes ''the phone does not work as it should" and they said yes send it back u will get a new one yaay but now i have no phone
I had this. After a hard reset, multiple times, and configuring with no accounts (no samsaung account, no google, nothing), it still happened. I ended up returning the phone and I've not had a single problem since.
I think it was either faulty memory or a dodgy firmware flash (more likely). Either way, I didn't care to find out and now it's all good.

Yes lucky i found this out early too.. Because after another week i wouldnt get a new one and now i get
Factory reset your phone.
Hope everything turns out alright.
I've had this problem sometime after Kitkat. When on a phone call, the phone will reboot randomly. Not everytime I use the phone. I've been suggested that it might be my sd card but I've ruled it out. I'm currently running nc5 stock 4.4. I've had xposed framework uninstalled to try to narrow this irritating problem. I've tried to switch roms, install them clean, install everything fresh and clean with no change. I've also had my Note 3 replaced because I thought this particular problem was hardware failure. Obviously that is not the case. I searched for an answer without success. It's very possible that I've missed something in the forums. I'll own that. I'm reaching out for help. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

I see from your post your back to a clean stock NC5, so that rules the OS out. You replaced the device, that rules out the hardware. What about the battery, are you running the battery from the first phone? Or are you running and extended battery? A short in the battery maybe? How long where on the call? Did the phone get hot and kick the high temp on device? I noticed several posts of phones shutting down from heat, it is a hot summer. The only other thing I can think of is the cell tower dropped the call, and for some reason the phone rebooted. Can you think of anything else?
I didn't consider the battery(original battery) . I haven't had any power problems yet. But that is a possibility. My calls could go on for 20 mins before it would reboot, then sometimes 10 mins. It really varies. The phone's temp would be normal I believe but I'll keep an eye on it. I did think about the reception being very low at my home and that being the cause, but it also has happened at work where I have a full signal. A battery replacement is a good idea, thank you. I will look into it. Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

It could also be loose or dirty battery connections too, so check those too.
