Title says it all. Is there a more complete way to wipe the phone than using the Factory Reset option in Touch Recovery? On my last two phones I had Calkulin's format all zips that I used.

I just wipe everything in recovery but the superwipe script is good, you can also wipe through fastboot, and aroma installer has a good wipe built in
Honestly, "super wipes" are just a mental satisfaction at this point. I remember super wipes on the OG EVO, being for the poor souls that were still using CWM. As far as development has come, they are unnecessary.

yeah but i can only think of one wipe script which happens to be superwipe lol, if i have any issues I just wipe from fastboot
SMW6180 has developed a super wipe app which is flash able but also incorporates optimization by the way it formats the partitions. Works great on the EVO LTE.

Wipe Cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, system. I wipe those 4 options twice. I feel like that's a proper wipe

A good wipe would include wiping kernel too, that's something that can be a hassle without a proper wipe script

I never have from day 1 and NFC works fine
Also for ppl wondering about wiping, I think a good habit is to wipe both caches everytime your in recovery.

all sensitive information pertaining to your credit/debit card is stored on their cloud servers now. Before all information was stored along with a certificate on the secure element, they switched to a more traditional method of using a passkey with every purchase, the purchase then goes to Google and they charge your account. The charges show as *Google "merchant" now, my buest guess is that SE is now obsolete but its just a guess. They still have to store the virtual mastercard number and passkey somewhere

Hello all. I just recently got my s2 and have been flashing several Rome. BTW thanks to all the devs and their hard work. Anyways, some of the roms state to do a full wipe. I have been going into recovery and doing wipe cache and data. Is this what is meant by full wipe? Thanks in advance.

FULL WIPE means you use the wipe data/factory reset.
Wipe cache is seperate BUT INCLUDED when you perform a full wipe. . I think it is just your temporary cache and can be used to help clear out issues on occasions. It wipes the temporary data for the apps but not the dalvich cache of the apps. (I may be slightly off here with that one).
Wipe dalvich cache is seperate and wipes the applications data. It wipes just temporary data that apps are using. This is normally used when you are flashing updates to the rom your on, flashing modems, flashing kernels, etc.
SO when you perform a FULL WIPE it will delete out ALL THE USER APPS AND DATA ASSOCIATED WITH THEM. This is why you backup your USER APPS and their associated data with titanium backup. Once the FULL WIPE is done all user apps are gone and ONLY apps that are included in the rom under system/apps will still be there. All the apps in data/apps are wiped gone. A FULL WIPE does not delete your sdcard so you will not lose your music, pictures, etc.

You wipe from cwm. Wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition are on the main cwm screen, wipe dalvik cache is in the advanced menu. Wiping all three of those is considered a full wipe.

You can also do a factory reset from the dial pad: *#*#7780#*#*
I think it's the same as wipe data/factory reset from recovery, but I don't know of any verification of that.
Incidentally, wipe data/factory reset belongs to stock 3e recovery, as well as CWM recovery.
If I am restoring my device should I delete all data?(data, cache, and dalvik cache )

I never do.
I never clear before a restore since it's all pretty much overwritten anyway. Only thing that might stay the same is dalvik. Does anyone know if that is included in a nand backup?

Depends, if you no longer need the data, wipe it. If you do then don't wipe.
@ mfreywald - If I understand you right. If your nanodroid back up it on the phone then yes. If it in your SD card then no.
I run jivy's kernel cleaning script (wipes cache and dalvik twice) before any restore or flash - might not be necessary, but I've NEVER had a bootloop or other issue like that since I started doing it.

Ahh, the old "kill a fly with a sledge hammer" philosophy. I'm in that camp too. A few extra seconds in CWM can save a headache later. A habit I picked up on my Captivate. Between each flash I wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik twice, and generally format system.

not mandatory but I do anyways just to be safe. it is kind of like the "safely eject usb" function on windows. nobody really uses it because it isn't a mandatory thing; but there is always that 5%
I am attempting to install CONROM, yet the instuctions start with "wipe". I am in Amon Ra, and there are a ton of options for wipe. Just want to make sure before I select "Wipe ALL" Thanks!
Typically you want to wipe /data and cache, and dalvik cache.

There are a few options for "wipe" - if you're not sure what to wipe, you can use a tool called Cleanwipe.
If you are familiar with partitions, /system, /boot and /data can be wiped before flashing a ROM. Make sure you have a backup before you do this.
/cache and dalvik cache are a part of /data partition so wiping them makes no difference if you have already wiped /data.
Some may suggest that you wipe 3X or more but it has never made any difference in my experience.

I usually just select the first option in AmonRa
Then I select Wipe data,
Wipe cache,
Wipe Dalvik-cache
And wipe system.. I only select those if I'm installing a fresh/whole new Rom.

So almost all of the ROM listed require a factory reset, data wipe, cache clear, but the thing that's confusing me is when I do that it deletes the ROM I'm trying to flash from recovery. So I have to boot back into the newly wiped ROM, download the new one, boot back into recovery and THEN flash. So, is this still considered a dirty flash? How do I avoid this without there being an additional SD slot?

The ROMs are always in the /sd/downloads folder. But like I said, after I wipe, it's gone. I should mention that I also do a format, as per the instructions.

Hey guys,
I have had some issues with my current ROM. I want to change the ROM. I am looking to switch to OMEGA.
How would I do this, I currently have AROMA rom. Should I do a factory reset the just reboot into recovery mode and install that way? Or will just installing the ROM from zip work? Or if I do a factory reset do I need to root it again with Odin, or will I not need to root it?
Also for wiping the phone should I wipe my SD card? Or no?

You have to format /system partition and /data partition in order to get a clean ROM, otherwise you may run into some unforeseeable problems.
Don't have to wipe sdcard
Most ROM except stock are pre-rooted.

Ok just to double check what your saying.
I should do a wipe using the built in android factory reset.
Then just install the ROM using the recovery boot.
I will not have to use ODIN or any other soft ware. Just factory reset and install rom.

He's talking about wiping in recovery.
Dalvik, is kinda Java virtual machine on android, it does concerns you...
About ROM, I suggest you try them out all, and then you will find your Mr.Right, or Ms.Right

1.boot into recovery, (make a backup , always be safe)
2.wipe data/factory rest
3.wipe cache partition
4.use volume rockers go into advanced , wipe dalvik cache , go back
5.go into mounts and storage , format/system (BE SURE YOU HAVE A ROM ON YOUR SD CARD), go back
6.Install zip from sd card , Choose zip from sd card , Choose rom and Click yes!

Nobody can tell you which rom is better .. All roms are amazing because of the work put into them try them out one by one.. you're not going to lose anything..

however same issue with the phone. But now when the call ends it says process com.android.phone has stopped. Then i hit ok and phone is ok. It doesn't automatically restart then go really slow.
No idea about this, I searched however couldn't find a answer. Lots of phones and versions of android had this issue.
Any ideas would be great guys.

I just booted into recover did system format and data. However I still have the same issue. After phone call freezes for a second, vibrates then says com.android.phone has stopped working.
Follow exactly what I ve typed in the previous post... exactly that.. and which version of omega have you Downloaded

why not you backup your current rom first then try to flash a new rom without wipe data. if you not facing any issue on the new rom, then it's ok.
if you facing any issue, you must flash again the new rom with wipe all data. if you not happy with both, then you restore back what you are backup before.:fingers-crossed:

Yes I did. I factory reset. wiped cache and dalvik as well as formatting in the advanced options. I currently have Omega 44.2 installed. But I had the iphone app crashing with AROMA 30.1 and 30.4
Is there away to uninstall the phone app and then re install that cleanly?
I did this and still have the phone crashing issue.
Settings/apps/all/phone/wipe app data, likewise do same with contacts, reboot, see if that solves it

There is no white data. only buttons available are force stop and clear data. If I press clear data it says all data will be deleted permanently including all files, settings accounts, databases. I assumed the files were the actual app.
I went to settings. Applciation manager and chose Phone.
......hit clear data then, do that for phone and contacts storage, the data bases get rebuilt the only thing you will have to set up again is which contacts to display and any ringtone options etc you may have chosen

Data is just that.....Data.....it is not the apk
