Hi, Nook Tablet gurus!
I desperately need your help! :crying:
I've been trying to bring my nook tablet to life for 3 days and evidently just reading and googling doesn't help - I need your help!
What I have:
Nook Tablet 16Gb
It always boots into internal SD cwm - nothing helps!
NT can boot into internal CWM, but I can't get to emmc - internal CWM just doesn't find it!
When I load through SD card I can see the content of emmc. And even use .zips on it to try to flash. But anyway i always get or in SD's CWM or into emmcs CWM
I tried lots of things: Tried different CWM versions, tried to mount\unmount different partitions (but didn't formatted!) Wiped cache, data, dalvik cache lots of times. Used method from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663836) but it says, that i must contact the B&N shop after reboot.
What I didn't try - repartition through ADB, as I'm afraid I'll just screw all things further.
My initial goal was just to flash ordinary (but beautiful) CM7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1512373) previously I used just rooted version of stock for half a year.
Could anybody, please help me? Will appreciate any help!

Sorry for VERY stupid question.
I can make an sd card with CM7 SD ROM on it?!
Wow i thought i can only write CWM on SD cards and nothing more serious. Could you, please give me a link on how exactly do this and what should I do next after this SD CM7 Rom will be booted from SD card?
Thank you Very Much for answering my noobish question - i really tried to handle everything by myself at first.
Yes you can make a bootable CM7, CM9, or CM10 card. CM7 is easiest, so we'll try that. Go to this post right here and follow the instructions underSD VERSION IMAGE.
Basically, just do this:
1.) Download the CM7SD ROM in that post.
2.) Download the .img writing software in that post.
3.) Attach your microSD to a PC using a USB adapter
4.) Using the .img writing software, write the .img ROM file to your SD card.
5.) When it's done, put the SD card in your NT and power it on from a completely off state (NOTE: You may need to be plugged into a wall charger if your NT doesn't boot into the SD card.)
6.) Wait for it to boot into your CM7 SD ROM.
Just flash CM7 to eMMC. It will run faster than off the SD

I successfully rooted my Nook Tablet and installed CM 7. However I foolishly applied a zip update that was not compatible and now I'm stuck in a boot loop.
My CWM bootable SD card refuses to work no matter what. I've followed the steps exactly as stated :
1. Using GParted on Ubuntu
2. I selected No-Free space preceding partition while partitioning
3. 50MB
4. FAT 32
5. Boot and LBA flags
6. Copied files
I don't know what to do to to make it work. I've tried all sorts of minor variations in partitioning the card but nothing appears to make the SD card work.
Can someone please help me?
Use Adam Outler's Ubuntu recovery image. He provides step by step instructions on how to unzip the image and transfer it onto the sd card. Have to use linux so if your on a Windows pc, then go grab you a cd or usb bootable copy of Ubuntu. The restoration process takes a while and seems like it hangs in spots but have patience. It takes somewhere around 20 minutes for it to complete but in the end you will be back on stock 1.4.0, safe and sound....Good Luck.
Alright well, I managed to get CWM working. Apparently my SD Card was just fine - I just needed to make sure the NT was plugged into a computer at the same time.
Now my question is : how do I get things working again? I had previously thought that I could simply flash CM 7 again and this would fix the issue, but now I realize that for some reason CWM only read from the 50MB partition from which it booted. Changing the SD card after booting into CWM doesn't work either.
So what do I do? Thanks again..
Nevermind. What I did was pushed the recovery to the internal card so that I didn't need the SD card to boot into recovery. I then reformatted my card and dumped the CM7 zip onto it. Then reflashed CM7. Voila.

Just wanted to comment on the above.
You can boot the SD version of cwm then remove the SD card. This is exactly how I installed CM7 That I'm currently running.
It didn't take the first time as cwm didn't read my SD. But after a repartition of the SD csrdz no problems.

I actually tried taking the SD card out, reformatting it and then trying to get it to read but for some reason CWM just doesn't do it. Maybe I should have tried a few more times...
Hi SGP users!
Last night, I installed the Jellybean CM10 ROM (the Nightly one). I also installed the GApps that came with the post. So I booted to Recovery Mode, I tried installing the ROM (Install zip from sd card>Install zip from internal sd card>downloads>the jb rom), but it says "INSTALLATION ABORTED". I repeated to install but to no avail. I rebooted the system to research on this, and the user said that you have to format system and try again. I booted to Recovery Mode again, formatted the system (it says system formatted or something like that), and installed the ROM for the nth time. It still says INSTALLATION ABORTED. Now, I tried installing the GApps zip file, and it worked (I installed the zip file because I want to know if all the files on the internal sd card are broken). So I tried installing the ROM again. Aborted. I rebooted the system, and now it's stuck with the white Samsung text! I don't know why, so I just drained the battery with the Samsung text still ongoing.
Today, I'm pretty sure the battery is drained (there's no text anymore), so I tried charging it. Nada, it's stuck with the loading logo on the battery image.
I think my device is bricked, I don't know. I researched it and all I found was the BootLoop. Is that the error on my SGP? I want to know if my device is bricked, and what caused this. Help?
Its not a brick..reboot to recovery (home + volume up + power ) and install some ics rom for player ..boot to that rom and then go again to recovery and install jb rom.That is offcourse if you have 5.0

transfer the zip files to your SD card; use those files to flash. Also, now, can you get into recovery/download mode? Like after having removed the player from the USB?
just curious- did you originally download the ROM/app package to your device (ie /mnt/sdcard/????) and flash, or did you place the files in the SD card (ie /mnt/sdcard/external_sd [or something like that]) before flashing?

Edit: Ok, so literacy kicked in and I carefully read your OP. My guess, and I could be wrong, though I doubt it, is that the installation aborted because you flashed the packages from your internal SD and NOT your external SD (ie the actual SD card). Since the ROM rearranges directory tree (or whatever), it would stand to reason that the installation aborted during the installation process since it could no longer locate the zip. Ie it is no longer /mnt/sdcard/downloads (or wherever), but rather /storage/sdcard0/downloads. I'm guessing that CWM bypasses this and accesses your SD card directly, rendering installation from your actual SD card immune to these effects.
So, try again (assuming your device can still go into CWM recovery) and flash the packages in the proscribed order, but this time, from the ACTUAL SD card, and NOT internal. I "upgraded" directly from a GB rom, having flashed the zip files from the external SD card, and suffered no problems, so I know it isn't necessary to go through ICS. Good luck!
This is a helpful one! I'm sorry, but one last question, (I'm a newbie sorry!) how do you move the zip files to the external SD Card? And if I do that, and it flashed successfully, do I have to start again if I remove my SD card? Really sorry for the questions, but I really want to know.

Since my computer didn't recognize my SGP (suckish USB cable lol), I placed my external SD card on my cellphone and plugged the cellphone into the computer to download the zip files (I downloaded them directly to the card). Afterwards I placed my SD in my SGP and flashed--It's working, thank you!!!

All you need to do is use a file manager to move zip to sdcard1. Make sure you follow the steps in op of rom.

I am new at rooting, this is the first device I have tried to root. I followed the thread for a triple boot CM7 , CM9 and CM10 (also stock OS) from Malloneem. I decided to only flash CM7 and CM10 to NT 1.4.3. Everything worked great, except during the initial setup of both CM7 and CM10 it will not recognize my WiFi. I have tried twice, after first time I wiped NT and reformatted the sd card and started from scratch. same result both times.
I read through the replies and noticed that someone else had the same problem. the response said to wipe the cache and it should fix the dalvik. I wiped both the cache then tried and then wiped the dalvik and had the same results. With the CM10 it says "turning on wifi" and stays there.
I am a new member to xda so I cannot post a reply to the original thread.
Any help would be much appreciated.
If I cannot get this to work is there another method where you can use CM10 and stock OS? (something that is extreamly easy to follow)

Write the image file to an SD card and you'll be good to go. You can use a repartitioning software to expand the partitions on your SD if you want. Use the instructions on the link I provided.
The SD card image will contain CM10.1 4.1.2. If you want to use a different ROM you can download the SDC version of any ROM ( has to be SDC!), place the zip on your SD card or internal storage. Boot into SDC recovery and installed the zip file. You'll need the GAPPS zip also (which has to be SDC also.)

Yes. Because CM 10 will be on your SD card. Stock will be on your internal. If your internal partitions or anything is messed up ( maybe the reason you can't boot stock) you can tell from CM.

Thank you again. I have read throught the instructions on the link you provided and I am a little confused on the partitioning part. As I mentioned before this is my first time rooting anything. The instructions on the triple boot regarding the partitioning of the sdc were clear giving sizes for the newly created partitions etc., I didn't see that on this link (unless I missed it). Could you explain it so a newbie can understand it?

Well is there any reason why you would like triple boot? You need a fairly good size SD card if you want three systems. I just provided the simplest way to run cm on the nook. Write the image to your SD card and it will make it boot able. If you want to triple boot then setup your SD card partitions like you had before, but you only need to install the zips as alt boots.
Again, you probably don't need triple boot. Cm10+ has everything you'll need.

No, I dont need the triple boot. Being a newbie I may have misread something (probably the case) but the link you gave me directed me to partition the sd card. it was this portion that was not clear to me. I was referencing the directions for partitioning on the triple boot thread as a comparison. The site you gave me said to partition the card but gave reference as to how big to make each partition. I don't need the triple boot.
My kid uses the NT to help read (read to me, etc...) I wanted something to get more of a tablet feel while keeping the stock system as well.

On the iamafanof site you can scroll down there will be an SDC image. There is a difference between the image and the zips. All you need to do is download the SDC image, write it go your SD card using an file writer ( win32 disk writer will do) and your SD card will be ready to boot. Put it in your nook and and it will boot cyanoboot and should automatically do a SDC boot. It takes a little bit for the first boot to start ( usually 2 or 3 minutes)
Once you get your nook to boot cm I can tell you how to expand your SD partitions to hold more apps.
If you still have problems with WiFi it may be a different problem ( shouldn't happen).
If you need help or need a step by step guide I can find one or make one for you.

You have 4 partitions on your SD card: boot, system, data, sdcard. Your boot partition holds the files the boot CM. This is where recovery, mlo, uboot, etc is. System holds files essential for the ROM to work.
The only two you need to worry about are data and SD. Your data partitions holds apps. That is when you download an app the files in the apk file are put there. This would be like your internal storage for any phone or tablet. SD card is like an external SD card for your phone or tablet. Its where extra data files, photos, music etc go.
Depending on what size of SD card you have determines how big you can expand your data or SD partition.
Using a partitioning software ( like GParted) you can change the partitions and expand them to the side you want. I have a 16 GB SD card. So I expanded my data partition to 4 GB, and the rest went to SD card. Its okay to delete data or SD partition to expand it, but don't delete boot or system because you'll have to reformat the card and write the image file to the card again ( and ain't nobody got time for that.)

After succesfully burning and running the img from iamafanof.wordpress jellybean-android-4-3-for-nook-tablet. I decided I wanted to have more control over partition size etc and load a ROM from an SD card instead.
So I followed or at least thought I followed the instructions here. iamafanof.wordpress how-to-guide-bootable-cm7cm9cm10-sdcard-for-nook-tablet. However, I thought I was creating a bootable SD card with the ROM on it, but I installed the ROM on the internal nook memory by mistake. The nook tablet runs CM10 well.
The issue is I intended to be able to switch from CM10 on the SD card to the Nook OS like I could originally with the SD card img I mentioned previously. I cannot get the Nook Tablet 8gb to boot from the SD card. I only get CyanaBoot with the options to boot internet or boot internal recovery. The recovery options does nothing and the internal boot takes me into CM10. The SD options are greyed out. I have tried probably 5 different SD boot images including 2 that I know have worked previously. Also tried 3 different SD cards 2 of which I know worked previously. I am powering completely off and then plugging in USB to turn back on as described through the forum. I have tried using the Nook Recovery and it goes through the steps it looks as if it restoring to original state, but it only restores CM10 to original state.
My question is how to I get my Nook to boot to SD or can I somehow use my working CM10 ROM to get things restored to original NOOK OS. My goal is to wipe the Nook clean and go back to original state and then correctly create a CM10 SD boot card. I am a newbie to the Nook, but feel like I have explored all of the most easy to find options on the this forum to fix this.

Instruction in the link I provided is very detailed. Short version: Downolad the 1.42 recovery, unzip and burn an sd-card with the repart.img you will find in the extracted folder. Boot to that sd-card and a restore process will start. After a while (a few minutes?) a green checkmark hopefully appears. Pop out the card and the Tablet will reboot and finish the process and you're back to stock 1.4.0 or something like that.
Iamafanof has ready-made sd images oc both CM10 and CM10.1. Use one of those. Don't overcomplicate things. Use one of them! (Not that I get why you couldn't stay with the one you were running already... That's kind of what doesnät make sense to me.)

Sorry for not being clear. After I accidentally installed CM10 internally on the nook I can no longer boot from an SD card. I have tried your guide and at least 5 others now. I follow the steps to a T. I have made 3 working SD boot cards for the Nook prior to installing CM10 internally. I understand the process. I have 3 different SD cards and none of which make a bootable SD card. Somehow now that CM10 is installed and the cyanaboot comes up on reboot with the options to boot internal or boot internal recovery. The SD options are greyed out. No matter how many different SD cards I use and boot instructions I follow. It will not read the SD card on boot. It does read it fine once the OS boots. I do not currently have gapps installed. So even If i wanted to keep the internal CM10 install I still need to be able to boot from SD to install gapps.

Instead of rebooting while in CM, have you tried to boot off SD from power-off state and by inserting a powered USB cable?

Yes. That is the method I am using. power down. Insert USB. Nook powers up. Cyanotboot Menu comes up. SD boot options are not available. At this point I am ok with just having CM10 on it, but I really need to get the google apps loaded onto the Nook. It simply will not boot from SD or recognize the SD card during boot. It does recognize from within the android OS and on my Windows machine. It shows Nook as an external device and I can access the SD card that way. It just will not boot from the SD card.
Just confirm: you've tried Succulent's pre-made CM10.x SD image (suc as cm_acclaim_10.2.0-RC0_13OCT2013_HD_SDC_IMG.7z from http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2013...id-4-3-for-nook-tablet-imgsdc-boot-09aug2013/ -- unpack it with 7-zip then write the image to SD with win32diskimager) and it didn't boot either?
FWIW, you can find some info/pointers on making bootable SDcard from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36685310&postcount=1 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37515697&postcount=31.
I don't normally do this I just lurk around for my questions but this time I really give up. I have done plenty of work with 16 gb stuff, but never 8 GB nook, trying to install CM 10.2 on a friend's 8GB Tablet, the issue is I cannot seem to find an img for clockworkmod I can just burn to an SD card, lavero.burgos guide requires CWM to already be installed into the internal recovery, but what if I take a clean nook out of the box, are there no CWM images I can burn straight to the SD version 6.x.x and after?
The other method seems to be the one where you create the partitions manually. Which is fine and all, and my device is obviously doing something, but it locks up on the cattonbox and doesn't continue on to CWM. Things I have tried:
1. putting in MLO first after freshly creating 0x0c partition (yes its active) and then the other files for custom SD-recovery
2. replacing the recovery in lavero burgos zip with the cwm_6012.img file, renaming it recovery.img
3. also tried renaming the file instead to boot.img that some guy recommended
4. have tried another sd, rinse, repeat
All the "SD" burnable images are either invalid, or have no partition information. The custom SD method has some sort of issue. I do plug in the cable. The problem isn't getting it to recognize the SD card as a bootable media, the problem is getting to go into CWM, I'm all out of wit, it's been two days man, basically:

EDIT: Just tried cwm_6033.img; no dice. These images are supposed to be 8GB Friendly I believe. I don't understand what gives
EDIT 2: Great. I wasted some freaking space on the forum. Sorry guys. Use cwm_6033, rename boot.img, and hold "N" when the trash box comes up. Yay
