So I installed a Skyrim guide. I knew it had ads, so I installed LBE Privacy Guard first, and locked down the guide's permissions. It asked for permission to change some things, but let me opt out, so I did. It then told me that it used AirPush, which I was not expecting. The app appears to work fine so far. I know there is an AirPush opt-out app that will kill AirPush, but will AirPush bother me since I locked down the permissions? I am running ICS, not JB, so I can't merely silence the notifications. If it gets to be too much of a pain, I can uninstall the app. It's not that big a deal. It's just sometimes I'm playing Skyrim and I don't feel like stopping to look something up when the game fails to explain something clearly.

This is my first post. I have been contemplating freezing some apps through titanium backup. Ive notice that apps like pulse news and bloomberg run in the background when i never opened them in the first place. I would think that that's unnecessary strain on my battery and I want to freeze them. But if i freeze an app does that mean that I will need to unfreeze it in order to ever use it? If so how can i prevent an app from running in the background without completely disabling its use? My second question pertains to app permissions. A lot of the apps I download have permissions that seem a little too intrusive on my privacy. Is there a way I can store files so that no application has access to it? Again this is my first post. I did some research to see if these questions had been answered and I didnt see much. So thank you and pardon my ignorance.
The only way to effectively stop an app from running is to freeze it. And a frozen app cannot be run.
And yes the app constantly running does affect the battery. That's the main frustration with bloat. It'd be one thing if they just sat there, but they regularly run on their own. Most alternatives on the market to them don't run by themselves nearly as much.
By far the majority of permissions are not as bad as they sound. Contact the developer to see why the permissions are required. The reasons may surprise you.
What apps are you concerned about?

Hey guys, I recently downloaded or updated an app that has started pushing ads to my notification bar. This is abso-****ing-lutely unacceptable. I was wondering if anyone knows of any apps that are confirmed guilty of this? I can't figure out which app is guilty, and i uninstalled over 100MB of apps trying to find the culprit, but there it was again in my notification bar after work today. Also, is there a way to figure out which app is doing it? I have a very very nasty email waiting for the dev who thought this was a good idea once I figure out who it was.
Any confirmed apps I'll list below and try to keep up to date from here out if there's community interest.
Confirmed apps with push:
Extdate Widget v 3.0.0
Damn you Swype!
I remember reading on the front page that a Japanese *carrier* was starting to do that. Screw money-hungry devs, when my CARRIER starts to do that, I'm going to a different carrier, and when they all start to do it then the ROM-flashing community will be growing by leaps and bounds, I'll wager.
Ads were made to be blocked.

*please don't start **** with my about developers need my money from ads. I do what I want with my phone.
Here is another Push detector. I use this sometimes whe I get one.

FYI, here's a article about Airpush claiming (bragging) that over 10,000 apps on the market use their service:

And this back in November.
I ran into that with the Skyrim Soundboard. If you have that uninstall it and they stop.

I installed "Bloat Freezer" free and started getting push adds. Uninstalled and they were gone. coincidence??
Did you finally figure out which app is doing it. I really wanna know that app so that I dont get it.
The add on detector apps work, so I figure this thread is obsolete. But I did list the app that was causing my issues in the OP

I've been getting the same ads, but Adaway isn't doing anything. Could Adfree be any different?
Also, I think these are tied to a specific app I've installed - anyone know which one might be causing this? I've never seen ads like this in the notification tray - they show up with a big green "+" sign.

if this is something that's been occurring recently, check the notifications for any recent apps you installed.
adaway works great for me and dramatically increases browser page loading speeds. does a great job at eliminating ads.
This typically happens when you download a free app. Paying for the app should not give you pop ups. In my past i havent had any luck with ad blocker. I use adhoc on my HTC Sensation.
I had the same thing. And they are right. It is from a free app. I tried everything to get rid of it and could not even when I deleted all apps I installed. I ended up resetting to factory and reinstalling apps. No problems since.
Download addons detector from the market and see what app is the culprit of the leadbolt ads. Then uninstall it.
Ad Network Detector by Lookout Labs.
They're almost always spot on at identifying the programs that are causing the annoying issues.
Adaway works great for me aswell
I would have recommended adfree (rq root) but it reduces flash functionality for video playback on some websites
Installed "airpush detector" from the market and discovered that Tablet Wallpapers was the app giving me the spam in my notification bar. Uninstalled it, so hopefully that will do the trick!

All the above mentioned apps worked for me as well. I am ad free now! The best for me was Ad Network Dedector whitch found all kinds of apps on my Prime. Good luck!
If an app is sending ads to your notifications bar, you should find out which app it is, leave the most negative review possible regarding the notification bar ads (but be polite, people ignore reviews filled with curse words) and then uninstall the app.
If people don't use an app because it has notification ads, then app developers will stop using this method of advertising to promote their products.
Honestly though, Google needs to step in and stop people from spamming the notifications bar with advertisements. That area is for important information, not crap like "50% Off Downloadable Armor in Blood & Glory!"
Ad Notification
Tablet wallpapers was the culprit for me as well.
Download Addons detector from the market this might solve your problem....
You really need to change your title. I though it said infected with aids
Also go with adaway works really good.

I use airpush detector, it works quite well, I haven't had any apps that push without it identifying them so far.

YIKES!,,,,I hope I don't have to go that route....
Lookout Security & Antivirus found mine in ChargeBar Free Edition,
ChargeBar came embedded in the NottachTrix 2.3.0 ROM.
I installed it (NottachTrix) and it (ChargeBar) didn't update for 3 months, then, BANG.
I've deleted ChargeBar's update, moved it from system apps to apps, deleted it, and the browser pop open 'ad.leadboltads.net' still persists.
Lookout Security & Antivirus can not find the new location of the malware, they do not have a forum.
By the very definition and behaviour, this is malware, and, ChargeBar (Asgard Casino Apps) is involved in the distribution of malware.
Asgard Casino Apps distributes 34 apps that behave this way.
They are using Google to distribute this malware, abet, that app is benign in its origin, its a pipeline, or conduit for malware.
Sneaky F##kers aren`t they.........
#1) I would like to get this crap off my phone.
#2) I need to bring this to Google's attention, and have the developer and apps banned from the Play store.
Sooo, starting with #1,,,how do I get this crap off my phone!
NOTE:
I will be linking to this post in the NottachTrix post, I'm asking the developers to to move ChargeBar from the ROM zip.

Any solution to this?
I'm just having the same issues and none of these suggestions helped.. really dont wanna factory reset..
Hi there, dumb question. The girlfriend (Sony Xperia Z3, full stock) cought something. She's getting popup ads all over the place. Small ones, fullscreen ones... but it's only within Chrome. On the desktop I'd say it's some evil addon and it looks exactly like that. But Chrome for Android doesn't do addons. It must come from some rogue app.
I can't find anything for the life of me. The phone has never been rooted so it can't be much. However, her boy sometimes does what kids do and that is download everything that looks like a game. He just does that from the Play Store and usually she kills it immediately.
I let three different killers have a look (Avast, Bitdefender and Kaspersky) and none can find anything.
There is no suspicious app to be seen anywhere.
Yet the ads keep popping up.
Any ideas?
The problem is only within chrome? No popups when using other apps?
^ Indeed. It kinda looks like lots of adware related stuff you'd find when googling the problem. But none of the solutions have worked so far.
If it wasn't so annoying and pissed off the GF so much, I'd actually say this is 'cool' in a twisted way. I even checked if it's the new kind of malware that can root Androids but nope, unrooted still.
Haha: D optimistic attitude. Have you tried does the problem go away if you uninstall and reinstall chrome? Not the most elaborate solution but maybe the simplest one.
If you can't fix it, and are desperate to fix it, you should
1. Root and download ad away
2. Uninstall completely and use another browser (Idk if this needs root considering I don't know if chrome is a system app or not)
Well, the simplest solution did it. Delete Chrome's cache, delete Chrome's data, done.
Of course now I'm intrigued HTF something that intrusive is even possible via the browser alone.
Your best bet would be wiping the phone and flashing stock firmware

I installed this one but are there any safety concerns with using this cause after all it can "see" the whole screen? It's also not on google play so that makes me awry.
Waste of time at the minimum. I would never install such junk.
I feel screen is more bearable to watch at with the dark overlay it puts over it. I have new A52s and flickering is straining on the eyes for me. It's not for the oled saving feature which more than likely is a waste of time as you say.

You should be careful about apps you sideload from such risky sites. Make sure you disable internet access to all such apps and grant only the bare minimum permissions that is required for the purpose.
Often apps ask for way too many unnecessary permissions, and some won't work without those. I would immediately uninstall apps that refuse to work without unnecessary permissions.

It gets every permission pretty much cause it acts an overlay, from accessibility and so forth. That's why I asked if maybe someone ever went through inner workings of this app.
I did scan it with that google play protect feature and it came up with nothing.

I would always scan APKs on VirusTotal too.
As with permissions, I don't know why it needs Accessibility permission. This permission is usually only required when an app clicks on something on the screen on behalf of the user. Not sure what other permissions it needs.
If you find alternatives on Google Play Store that perform the same function, you can check them out to see if they too ask for the same set of permissions.
Thanks for you answers, I ran it through virustotal too and some other similar sites and came up with nothing but still think I won't use it just to stay on the safe side. Developer seems to be gone so can't really ask.
Maybe it's just placebo anyway, OLEDs might not be for me.

Unless it's open-source, I wouldn't install it. Also, there are plenty of apps on Google Play that are scams, just because an app's on there doesn't mean it's safe.
