i mean shutdowns not reboots

More info please, launcher (if any), apps, task managers?

It's most likely the battery that's causing the reboots.
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using Tapatalk 2

no launchers, apps i have just like the social networks and three games, Do i need a new battery? I also have fastboot checked on, does that have anything to do with it?

I was having the same problem, and for me it was the battery. I wound up buying a new anker battery on ebay and have not had shutdown issue lately.

so y'all think it is a battery problem?

It could be but i had two random shutoffs today but did notice that facebook was not responding and phone shut off a few min later.

Most likely, its actually been pretty common for amaze batteries to go bad. Call HTC they should give you one free replacement

Fastboot does cause some apps to act up and go haywire and it may be your issue (I would turn fast boot off and restart phone) before taking a drastic action such as replacing battery. Wipe your cache with a cache cleaner once in a while sometimes garbage continues to build up in your phone and makes it act funny. Replacing battery should always be a last resort after you have tried everything (most people just say that's the solution because it doesn't require a lot of explaining). I use cache cleaner ng which automatically cleans my phone and sd card cache at the time I have specified it to auto run every day (like 5 a.m)

Since your on stock it most likely is the battery. I think most Amaze users come across this issue at one time or another.
But keeping memory clean is essential for Android puones. Get 'Amaze Memory Clean' from the Play Store. It's created by HTC for the Amaze. And get a good Cache Cleaner.. like hatlessandman uses Cache Cleaner NG and set it to clean every 12hrs.

Hey double0ek I checked the app out you suggested and it had some amazing reviews as well so I downloaded it but when I tried opening it the screen just says "update successful" and thats it is it supposed to do that or did I not do something right?

[Q] Atrix reboots are killing me.

My Atrix has rebooted itself at least 6 times today. Once while I was trying to post this. How do I make it stop? This sucks.
I tried to search the forum but couldn't do it from my phone. Go figure.
Take it back? Software restore? I haven't had a single random reboot

No one has really figured out what is causing the reboots. What do you have installed/Mods. One theory is if you have some after market task killer (ATK - Advanced Task Killer) it might be killing the OS causing your phone to reboot, again thats only one theory.

Right out of the box. Not rooted (yet) or anything. I notice that the task manager on this phone lets apps run wild unlike my "old" Droid 2. I have a hot phone with sub par battery life. I am wondering if I have a memory leak somewhere.
I have noticed apps like Pandora tend to lock up as a widget but continue to burn through memory. I am hoping for a system update soon.

I also have not had my Atrix reboot on it's own. You can try to hard reset your phone and not reload your apps to see if it's one of your apps causing the problem. But I bet you will have to get a replacement phone.
One thing that has started happening to me is when I used the speedtest.net app it'll run one good speed test the second run it'll display 50kbps down 50kbps up then it'll reboot very odd don't know why this might be

Make sure you charge your phone full to 100% before doing a hard reset... This helped my battery life tremendously... Don't forget to backup your data
I do get random reboots, but only once in awhile (3x since I can remember from release date of Feb. 22)... I think Motorola is aware of this issue. There is an update in beta test right now so hopefully it will be out for every in the near future.
Good luck.
Is there any update to this? I am also having random reboots on 4.1.26 and 4.1.52

I noticed when my Atrix would reboot itself, it was USUALLY when GPS was in use. I know Speedtest sometimes uses GPS to determine which server to use, which might explain this? Just a guess though.

I've only had one reboot but messing with GPS caused it. Basically I went in and out of the navigation app 4 times. I can't remember why lol.
OP: Do you leave your gps on all the time? Maybe try turning it off for a day or 2 and see if that improves your situation.
Ive only had one reboot to date as well and it was also GPS related. I had just installed the update last night, and went into the app GPS status. it locked up and rebooted the phone. only time its ever happened...?
weird
I think the reboots are associated with polling.. if not polling then some underlying data send/receive issue.
i've also had about 3 random reboots in the past week, i'm currently running 4.1.57
My phone recently starts to reboot by itself too.
Running 4.1.57, rooted, and Webtop mod.
Most of the time it happens when I try to wake up the phone. The phone would not wake up and then reboot itself after a while.
At least with the update the issue is the phone randomly reboots when there is
1. Low Signal
2. Coming off wifi and unable to reconnect data.
Pretty much when the device loses the data connection and cannot reconnect it reboots. Been worse since the 1.57 update.

+1.........
when I've had random reboots, (about 2 of them since the 1.57 update) I've noticed that each time the phone was busy pulling something from teh internets, and would just jam-up. Maybe there's a buffer overload or something and the phone has to reset to clear its cache?
Then again, I know NOTHING about internets, except how to watch pr0n and dl torrents.
I too, have never had a single random reboot.
I've had 3 reboots in the past week alone. Mine usually happen at the beginning of a phone call. I'm getting sick of having to call the person back and explain that my phone just rebooted.
Anyone heard of any updates on this issue ?

Random rebooting???

Has anyone else noticed that the Photon seems to self reboot at odd times. I have yet to have it reboot on me while using it, but my wife's Photon has rebooted on her during active use.
Anyone else experiencing this?
No, but you leave alot of unanswered questions. Is your wife rooted? what is she running (app's) that you are not running?
I have heard of this before and if i remember, delete everything and start new, just putting a few app's at a time back on. When it starts acting up, you found your app!

Shockingly enough, I did suddenly get that twice yesterday after updating YouTube. However I've been unable to reproduce it with any level of consistency at this point.
For the two Photons I have access too (both are doing the same thing), one is rooted one is not.
Apps in common are:
Enhanced email.
ADW Launcher
Car Home.
My feeling is that more people are having this issue they just don't know about it... I found it because I went to recently used apps and there were none, then I started to watch it...

I've experienced it a couple of times while playing music. A song would be playing and then it would suddenly reboot.
I'm using Google Music...
I've heard of that happening before the 154 update came out. So not sure if you're on the latest OTA or Leak why you'd be getting it, unless as someone mentioned it was an app. Which is possible I s'pose.
i did noticed that when the phone is in the charger, when i take a call
while the phone plugged in i hear no voice and the phone reboots
the phone was pretty hot when it happens so i can assume it's a heat problem
(in my case)
Mine has been rebooting more and more frequently. I went to Sprint today and had them order me a replacement. I'm hoping the new one does not have this issue.
Have you tried wiping data and cache then installing the latest leak?

What latest leak? The 198_7?
Yes sir. That's the latest leak/OTA update. Though the reboot issue was fixed for most people with the 154 update. I previously had that issue as well. So you could try that, but not saying it will for sure fix it. That's really the only idea I have, unless you try uninstall your apps and see if it's an app related issue.
Had same famous random reboot issue, after 154 update and a wipe.
Exchanged for new Photon at Best Buy (no hassle swap) 3-4 weeks ago, So far no random reboots. For me, I believe it was hardware related, noticed the phone was getting fairly warm around the same time the random reboots started happening.

I guess it could be hardware related, but that WAS a known issue when the first Photons came out. I had to exchange mine three times due to the reboot issue before the tech told me it was a reported and known issue and they would be releasing a fix for it.
My Evo 4G and EVO 3D both did this sometimes (both stock, not rooted, hardly any 3rd party apps) when signal strength was low.
My Photon does it much less often (did it once today though, but I'm in Canada roaming). My Photon is rooted, but pretty vanilla.
I have gone with all of the OTA's, and have yet to have a reboot.

There was some dude who had this issue and he stuck a business card at the space near the top of the battery to keep it lodged with the connections near the bottom. Supposed ly this worked....but you probably want to get a phone that works straight up.

Whats wrong with my evo 3d?

It started happening about a week ago and was random, my phone has been rebooting and turning its self off, it was doing it all the time and now it just seems to do it when the screen is off and its idling, ive tried different roms and that dont change anything i have noticed the battery indicator messes up a good bit and cant give me my battery percentage, ive cleared battery stats and wiped caches, whats going on here?

We're comin from a pure power source.
sounds to me like a bad or cheap battery. btw wiping battery stats does absolutely nothing as far as battery life goes. so its really not even worth taking time to do. also take out your sd card and see if the problem keeps happening. I had a cheap sd card that did that to my phone before.
Mine did that after I flashed just the newest radio by itself...I fixed it by flashing either Freeza's all in one or the one from xhaus that contained all the newest firmware from the newest update from the bootloader. hope this helps...i had the same problem phone would turn off while asleep in my pocket.

I was having the same problem. I took my evo to the sprint store and they gave me another refurb.
Hope you dont plan on using the new base or kernal because you will run into issues with an old radio. 0 problems here on newest one with current firmware.

could be a whole lot of different reasons. Always have to approach different issues the same way. You need to remember when the issue started. Did it happen when you updated the radio, or a rom and saved something on your sd card. if you hadn't done anything to it for a while or added anything to the sd card, a corrupt file on your sd card CAN make your phone reboot and sometimes get to the point where it won't load anything. I've also seen a battery cause the same thing. Go back to the basics, hope that helps, not a solution but just some advice....

yea my SD card made my phone do this too. i just took all files off and only put the essentials on it and it seemed to help
It's not the battery. Went through 3 until Sprint listened to me and got me a new one.

Knock the cpu speed down to stock speeds, see if that helps, take it back to the shop an get a new battery or buy a new one, do a super wipe and install a stable rom which you know is decent enough.
Should be fine.
PS: I'm running Mikrunny (mahmoud's version on post 261) the gsm version, using the kernel which comes with the rom and that's it, no probs at all.
CWM v 4, never reboots at all, highest you can go with that particular kernel is 1.51ghz

Rebooting Issues

Hey fellas, my phone will not stop rebooting and i was wondering if anyone was having the same issues? My phone is S-off and i have tried several kernals and different roms. ive wiped the battery stats, drained down the battery and fully charged it while the phone is off. Im getting to the point of grabbing a hammer and breaking this and either buy a Galaxy S3 or wait to see what apple does with the Iphone 5. Any suggestions? Should i buy a new battery or is it just my phone?
Did you flash a ROM without wiping? Are you flashing kernels on roms that you shouldn't be? A little more information might help

Flash the stock RUU and run for 24hrs to see if the reboots still happen.
Another issue could be the battery. I've also heard that SIM cards could cause some reboots. It's just a process of elemination.

I think the majority of the users in the Amaze forum had their batteries go bad. Just get a new battery. Either call HTC and request for a replacement battery per HTC's warranty or buy an Anker battery.
My stock battery is going bad. It'll only last about 6hrs now. It used to last 10-16hrs depending on use. But I can let it sit, without using it, for 4hrs and my battery will he about 30%..I've never had the random reboots with it yet.
Just as an update, i installed the official RUU and still encountering the reboot issue :crying:

I should try that. But it doesn't appear to be a contact issue though. Many Amaze users, including myself, had that issue. The only thing that fixed it was a new battery.
The pins seem to be spring loaded (or something like it) because when I insert the battery, the pins go back like 1/3 to 1/2 way. There is absolutely no room for movement whatsoever. It's not like the battery was loose. But that's just me, and the mileage may vary for others.

Ok so i tried this yesterday around this very time and im happy to say that as off right now ive have had one single random reboot. Heres to hoping that this is a permanent fix! Thanks again!!!

Phone has been performing extremely slow

When I first got this phone, everyone at AT&T was raving about how great the performance is and how it out matches any other phone I wanted to buy. I can tell you that from my first week of using the phone I wasn't getting the "great" performance, but it was a major upgrade from my Atrix 4G, so I was happy about it. Recently though, my phone has been performing like s***. I have tried every ROM out for the AT&T variant; Elegancia, Viper, Blackout, and still nothing great. I am currently on Viper because of the mods that I can set up, but I am not happy with the performance of the phone one bit.
Here are some problems I have:
-Messages app literally force closes every time I get a text while I'm texting someone else
-When I press the home button, it shows my wallpaper, and takes about 3-5 seconds before everything else shows up
-When I use chrome, it freezes sometimes, so I click the home button, and it starts vibrating as if I'm getting a text and then goes to my home page
-When I open an app from the lock screen (dragging it in the ring) like my camera, it takes 3-5 seconds before opening up, and its all laggy to start
-And obviously, BATTERY LIFE. I know this currently isn't a fixable problem, but here is my daily struggle: I charge my phone over night, wake up at 9 for my class with 100%, go to about 3 classes consecutively from 9-12:30 without using my phone except listen to music to walk from building to building, and my phone is at 65%. How?
Anyone know what I can do? Or at least what it is causing this? Should I just completely wipe my phone and start from scratch? I know if I go to AT&T about these problems they are going to run me some gimmick on spending another $200 on a different phone; but I spend $200 on this one, and I expect it to perform like a $200 phone!
Like I said, I have an AT&T variant, running the latest Viper ROM..If there is anything else you need to know please feel free to ask.
Try running elegancia. I find it a lot more lightweight than viper. Also try bedalus' hxore kernel. Hopefully it helps.

Well it is a app available at playstore (requires root) which basically hibernates apps when not in use, like say - Facebook/ Twitter / a load of games... and thus saves memory and battery ...
If you had these issues like sms/mms force closing and what not from stock Rom before rooting or anything after market, you have a bunk device, trade it in for a new one. If u had these issues AFTER you rooted then I would consider my methods of flashing.
