Hi all,
I have a project : make a custom framework for Archos gen8 with a Android Jelly_Bean style.
I've found a framework-res.apk from a Galaxy S2 JB ROM. I've began to "mix" the content of drawable-hdpi folders.
But when I try to remake the .apk (zipped with WinRar and renamed .zip by .apk), replace it in my /system/framework with 644 permissions, my a43 boot loop. Why ?
(I've bricked five times yesterday...).
Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad english.
GoL LuM
Ps: i'm under UrukDroid 1.6.4

Apk is not the same as zip AFAIK
I would personnaly have baskmali the apk (=uncompile) to mod the files - then recompile it (smali)
Search on Google how to theme a framework

And I think you should have posted it on the theme and apps part on the forum
Hello minidou-77,
Thank you for your reply. I've searched on Google the necessary tools for theming Android. But nothing work. Maybe am i crazy ??
I will try to install the RoTtEnApPlEiCe custom framework just to see if the problem isn't UrukDroid. Maybe...
If someone wanna help me to decompile/compile that f****** framework, PM me and i'll send by mail the .zip folder with content inside.
GoL LuM
PS: i've not posted it in "theme&apps" section because it's always in developement

I'm not only modifying png's ^^ i will edit some .xml's for a more "realist" JB theme.
I've installed APK Manager. I find it more easy for noobies like me
Are you french, minidou ?

Yes ^^
Like 99% of Archos customers ^^
Ok, i've modified 60% ~ of png's, but i want recompile it with ApkManager, it says there is an error occured...
I don't know why :what:
I've also tested the "RoTTeNaPPlEIce", it works perfectly ... on a screen resolution of 160dpi (a43 has a 240dpi resolution ^^ )
Pour le moment, je vais dodo XD

Hi,
You can see more details of my "recompiling" error with apktool.
The problem seems to be the /values/public.xml but i don't know what exactly is it.
Now, i will begin the drawable-mdpi folder modifications for all a70/a101 owners. But i can't test it for the moment...
Should i sign framework-res.apk ?
Sent from my A43 using xda premium
No no need to sign a system apk that you will push manually
Actually I'm sorry but I don't know well what happens here...
Did any apk have been created ?
No apk's have been created. After some searches on Gugole, the problem is the Apktools version. I'm using v1.5.0.
If someone want compile it for me, let me a PM

Hi all,

I was trying a simple xml editing in an .apk and it works. But when i begin to modify .png's, all goes off.
Friends are compiling it for me... ^^ thanks you bros

Can we expect it for UrukDroid? Or it will be a CM7 theme?
It's a custom framework-res.apk for stock ROM and UrukDroid. Maybe a CM7 theme after ^^

For just replacing image files, the easiest you can do is just opening .apk file with WinRAR and manually replacing files within WinRAR.
P.S. I don't know for sure what you exactly did with mixing apk files, but your 43IT probably boot loops because of the missing META-INF folder from the 43it apk.
What is the META-INF folder utility exactly ? (I don't touch this folder. Only "drawable-hdpi" and "drawable-mdpi" folders).
When i've tried to ''mix'' png's with winRar, my a43 bootloop.
Sent from my A43 using xda premium
No I would suggest you not to touch the apk with a archive explorer
I don't really know try to look inside it or ask Google
Thanks to ranomez for the compiling ^^ i'll be more vigilant next time
I'm testing the all first version of framework. Screens on next post

I tried to backup it using Titanium backup and use with other ROMS for exapmle GingerDX but it didn't work. Has anyone managed to install this keyborad, or have .apk?? Thanks. I tried X8 Chinese keyboard but there is a lot of difference beetwen those two.

I was asking myself the same...anyway, i'm on GDX18+LDX4 so I have CWM only built in kernel...and it doesn't support Amend scripts. I converted it to Edify: keyboard works, yes, but no dictionary or prediction :-( Any Idea!??!
This is were is was looking for but no dictionary indeed. I found here a topic with this keyboard with dictionary but it's for an X10 and I can't make it work on my X8

This means you installed it but doesn't work? I even can't install 'cause it's amend script and CWM doesn't want to install...even after converting it :-(
I'm trying to simply copy dictionaries from that zip to /system/usr ...let's hope !
So?install it with xrecovery

GDX on LinuxDX kernel...CWM is built-in in linuxDX. Don't know if it's possible to use x-rec
Copying dictionaries from the x10 swipe keyboard didn't the job :-(
Progress !!!
I managed to extract the contents of a backup I did months ago immediatly after restoring my x8...it's a super-clean factory rom. The guide I used is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890508
Then I copied /usr/keyboard-config & /usr/xt9 folders to my SD and from there to internal memory with root explorer.
t9 & dictionaries are ok.
Only text prediction isn't working.
The 2 folders are in the attached .zip file !
I'm a total noob...so if someone can merge this two folders inside the original keyboard's zip script...
I make it to work at me:x
Sent from my E15 using XDA Premium App
Ok, txt prediction also works...I only has to learn a little what you write generally after a word ;-)
So, I think we did it !
At me it doesn't need to learn, only the new words ,but it's working like in stock rom:x

So is this the way or am I over my head of what you are saying?
I really liked the stock keyboard more than the android keyboard currently in GDX19

I also rebuilt a .zip file including those directories in it, for use with CWM recovery directly, so no need to copy manually any folder. I updated this morning to GDX19 and than I tested the .zip on my phone & seems to work. Now going home from work, later or tomorrow I will upload them.
How you make the update zip?

Adding the two directories inside the usr dir of the original zip file simply did the job. The script copies them recursively. Really easy. I converted it to Edify for CWM 'cause I've that built into kernel!
Winrar does the job to add those dirs.
If you need Amend to Edify conversion, follow the guide I linked some post ago

please, i need help how to change status bar to transparent on x10 mini
i use minicm7 2.1.9.
I have x10 mini pro, so I can't tell you for sure.
I think you can't have transparent statusbar in minicm7 (I might be wrong though).
The tutorials I had found required a deobexed rom, and minicm7 is not deodexed.
If you install a deodexed rom, I think the easiest way would be through UOT kitchen.
Oh, it should be fairly simple really. I'm away from a PC right now but if you share your framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk, I can run them through a tool I'm working on and do it for you.

Or I'll just do it myself.
I can't test this right now but it should work fine. Bear in mind that not every launcher will allow a transparent status bar anyway..

can you please share some details how did you do it?
did you use uot kitchen or zdune's patch? i tried with zdune's patch about 6 months ago but it didn't work, maybe it's working now..
None of the above. I did it myself. It's actually very simple. I'm working on a batch file that can do it for you on any rom at all.
But before then..decompile SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk with apktool and then edit statusbar_background.9.png and title_bar_shadow.9.png to make them transparent. Recompile, get the compression right, stick into an update.zip and there you go!

lesson no. 1
you need the base files...
you can get it from?
1. a nandroid backup of your own device
2. a pc companion blob
3. someone else's rom
4. an ftf file
option 3 is best usually
option 2 and 4 are worst...and anyways can be used only for stock based roms
Sent from my X10S using xda premium
lesson 2
how to extract files
1. if its a .sin file, use sin2img.exe by azuzu or sin2img.py by defer and continue to step 2
2. if its a .img file, get unyaffs.exe (or get the whole xperia rom manager package) and use it to extract
3. if its a zip...well....what do you need then? nothing
