Hi All,
Quick question for you
I currently have an iPhone 4s but I have fallen in love with Jellybean on my nexus 7, I love the UI. I've had an S3 and rooted it with CM10 and the truth is I really really liked it, but the problem I had was with the headphone jack and the mic getting muted.
Now I'm 99.9% sure the S2 doesn't suffer from the same problem, and I do actually like the S2 form factor
So here's my question.
Is there a stable jellybean (Vanilla, I HATE touch wiz) rom availble thats working for the s2 that I can install, that doesn't cain the battery and works as it should.
I've looked through the forums but some of it has confused the life out of me (Ii managed to install cm10 on the s3 without any issue at all btw, so I'm not totally inept )
Any help or opinions you guys can offer would be lovely and really appreciated
I'm using CM10 as my daily driver for... almost a month i think and right now it's very stable in my opinion; I don't notice any bugs in CM10 yet. I don't understand your mic and headphone jack problem though. It's way more stable than ICS roms in my opinion.

hey
thanks so much for the reply. appreciate it, is the battery life okay on it, google now ok etc ???
i have bowers and wilkins c5 headphones. anyway what happens is that if im on a call on the s3 and im using the headphones if i press the mic button it hangs up the call, which is of course normal the problem is the next time i get a call the mic doesn't work at all on the headphones, you have to unplug them and plug them back in, all very strange ..... tried it on my phone which was running cm10 and then stock ics and then a mates phone which was unrooted and also ics same problem on both.
Best/Stable rom threads are not allowed as they are just opinionated/subjective.
If you want to find good rom, try them and find out or read one of the other zillion topics on this exact subject, no need for another.
I suggest you take your time to read get to know the procedures and then make your decision for the rom that best suit your needs. Thread locked

You get some stock apps that you can't get in Cyanogen. And for me you get a silkier and smoother experience on stock based roms.
I like the idea of pure Android, but what completely killed it for me in CM7 was how double tap zoom works. I came from iPhone so I was used to a "zoom-fit" type action whenever I double tapped on a picture or paragraph while browsing. In CM7, it wouldn't do that. Ever. Text re-wrap seems to be the big thing in that ROM. I hate it. So I stay with stock based ROMs, which zoom-fit on double tap.
So what I'm saying is: its the little things that determine which one you pick. If you find something on one thats minorly annoying, in 3 months you'll be ready to rip your hair out.
I've grown to become a big cm7 fan past few months. I switch back and forth now. Only things I find flaky in CM7 include the headphone volume (not their fault blame samsung), and the bluetooth implementation seems a bit flaky.
Are there any stock roms that have the AOSP look? I really despise the look of TouchWiz.
Headphone volume control is broken aosp because it doesn't have samsung driver.

With CM7 you can double tap to zoom just fine and it wraps the paragraph also. Plus if you want super large text you can use two fingers to make the words as big as you want, then double tap and it will keep the size ann rewrap it also. Just fyi

I used cm7 for about 3 weeks, I liked it but did go back to a stock based rom. My only issues were missing the stock/Samsung clock and video playback had problems. Otherwise it was very nice. I'm running icscrewd now and love it.
Might have just been me, but I hated the lack of the "My Files" thing and the missing "Task Manger" thing after holding "Home" from the main screen.
As for these topics, I really think we should get ONE thread with a big poll where people can vote on which ROM they're using, and maybe one more thread with just a brief compare/contrast (or just allow people to post in the thread under the poll), but that's optional. It's not like we one big thread, so can't complain when more of these threads do emerge after the older ones get buried, locked, deleted, etc.
CM7 is really good and it gives you a lot of control over you device and themeing options, but I always go back to stock because of some stock apps and video playback which is broken in CM7 ( it will only play videos recorded using CM7)
Video playback wasn't a big problem with CM7 because 3rd party players could usually handle it.
A2DP audio (e.g. music over bluetooth) was the dealbreaker for me. It is hopelessly broken on CM7 (lack of driver support as usual).
Also, wonky headset volume was problematic. And for the few times that I want to do video out to impress friends/parents with my S2, CM7 also came up short.
On Unnamed 2.2.1 now, but battery drain is worse than CM7...
still looking for that perfect ROM...

Yeah, Dice Player can handle anything. I use it exclusively.
. . . If you like UnNamed, have you considered the first version (before the re-base)?

Yes it is. I never used the hdmi out feature on our phones. The only thing that is keeping from running cm7 is the market issue. I've tried the market cwm fix but mine still just shuts off when i try to search.

You can try the European Hellraised and slimmed down ROMs that just came out. One of them is based on XWKL1 (not yet named) and one is based on XWLA4 (LilRom). They are both pretty good and have a very nice stock experience. You can theme them just like you would with an i9100 rom, so it can come out very nice. You can also run JKay.
There are going to be a lot of both since Entropys tutorial. The other is CleanRom if I remember correctly. And entropys KL1 is Sh1tRom, he mentioned work on an LA4 version too.
Have you tried the new roms yourself? If so can you comment? I'm really reluctant to leave UnNamed 1.3.2. Bad experiences with the other stuff out there. No offense to any devs, just UnNamed does it for me.

I get a wild hair about every few weeks and flash CM7 twiceweekly nighly in the dev section. I always have the same issue with CM7 that I did when I had it on the Captivate. The bluetooth would randomly disconnect my bt headset. While in call, the bt audio was crackly and get worse until it disconnected. I like to listen to podcasts on my bt headset while I'm at work, so that always kills my enthusiasm for CM7. I love CM7 otherwise.
I really think it has something to do with my bt headset (Sammy's WEP870), but the problem doesn't exist in any Samsung based ROMs (even on the Captivate). It has to be some compatibility between the bt drivers and hardware. Maybe some of the bt profiles aren't handled perfectly.
If you need bluetooth dependability, I would test CM7 under normal bt use before investing much time in getting it cozy with all your apps and customizations. Other than that, its solid. Give the twiceweekly nightly a try.
video out
does not support video out using the usb port. And the Bluetooth is flaky doe snot work and crashes the audio file. Camera is also not right. auto WB is off by a bit compare to stock.
well, if you like the company's UI, then thats a plus to the stock-based ROM, and if you hate it, like motoblur, then cm7 and other aosp roms would work better for you
i have seen it pretty much anytime im on a long call like 10 minutes phone reboots when it boots back up sound isnt working for calls i have to go clear cache&davlik cache to fix the issue im on kernal came with the rom
its done this to me daily now..same as you stated..once it reboots the data dosent work..also says baseband is "unknown" if someone calls you can hear them, but they cannot hear you....then rebooting again will fix it...strange
I tried every kernel, and done it on stock.....I believe its cm10 fault.,
in youre experience is their a good stable fast rom? im on stock rooted for now
same here, i liked 911 liquid but the next day no mic or sound, ended up going with big fau near stock rom, i just miss bln (backlight notification).
They say i can use a custom kernel but just scared to break it!

you won't break anything flashing kernels...I been flashing them for years..just make sure you flash the right one for what your on..!!
To be honest you won't tell that much more of performance from the kernels..in fact when I test them, the higher mhz I go..the worse my scores got?..strange...but you sure can tell the battery drain....after all the yeats I inly over clock like 2 notch above stock...

I believe I answered your answer in the other thread...
if your worried about stability and bugs...Don't even flash any jelly bean rom...
I would personally stick to ICS rom...the current rom your on now is pretty much bone stock...try the same developer if you like his work..he made another ics rom that is pretty fast and stable, you should tell a difference from the current one...,
MAKE SURE YOU MAKE BACKUP first..and try it out...

im on slimbean, its pretty similar to liquid i hear though
with the 2.5 update, its works pretty great. only caveat now is to get the bluetooth fix working again (it broke in the update)
but other than that its real snappy
(oh and a minor thing about me not being able to find the capacative lights option, but looks like im the only one that would like it)
but remember, regardless of when some folks say a rom is "flawless", it may always work differently on your phone, since not everybody has the same apps/mods/tweaks installed

you are correct...some roms or kernels act different on some phones...!
Hey fellas,
I updated from perfectly working CM9 last week to CM10 now. I set all volumes to MAX in the settings but have the feeling, that it's still not as loud as it used to be. I just received a phone call and wasn't really able to hear what the other person said, because it was just a notch too quiet.
I looked through the first 10 pages of every SGS2 section but couldn't find a fix. So... is anyone else experiencing this? If so, is there a solution to turn the phone sounds up? (ringer, text, alarm, calls, etc)

Maybe CM10 has that issue , go back to CM9 as i used CM9 and it was awesome experience :good:
The only sound issue that I've noticed on cm10 was using headphones...but you can use ex tweaks/stweaks to get a powerful volume using headphones!

Well.. Not really the solutions I've been looking for. Ha ha. Just as good as 'go buy a new one' or so. But hmkay, I guess I'll keep looking then! Thanks anyways

CM10 has some volume bugs. If you don't want them the statement made before is true: return to CM9
However you can indeed install another kernel that support extweaks/stweaks to turn the volume up, but in that way you loose support in the CM10 thread.

bummer... I really like CM10 and kind of don't want to downgrade again
I just remembered that with Lightningrom you simply had a fix - hoped to have something similar in this case so that all sorts of tweaking can stay away from me. haha!
thanks for your help!
Hello, this will be my first time flashing a custom rom on my phone. As the title says its a international GS3 i9300. Someone told me that cyanogenmod 10.1 isn't stable because Samsung doesn''t release the source code for the exynos CPU. Is this true?
From watching other tutorials and reviews online, it seems quite stable, does anyone have any experience with this? Also I would like to know if everything works ok such as GPS, wifi and battery life.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ben.

(1) you should post Questions in the Q&A section
(2) there should be a CM thread here where you can read if the rom is working well, what is not working well, how to flash it etc.
Works fine, but the battery life isnt as good as stock. It have drain issues.

CM 10.1 has come very far, despite the inherent limitations that a lack of proper sources brings, and it's getting better all the time. I've gone back and forth over the last couple of months, but the recent builds have been so genuinely good and functional, stable and fast and smooth, that I cannot imagine going back to stock at this point.
It's just more comfortable for me in every way. Read, backup, give it a try.
If I had to narrow it down to the key issues I have faced and worked around it would be:
1. The sound quality on the DSP isn't as good as stock, but Boefella takes care of 99% of that.
2. The camera can be difficult, but it's not such a big deal. Touch focus can be annoying, but it works after the first picture is taken manually.
3. The sound on calls can sound muted if no sound is played on a fresh boot prior to making a call, but simply pushing the volume up/down button once on every reboot will take care of that.
Hi everybody,
since my UMI got a terrible display damage, i had to switch back to my beloved galaxy s3. since i switched back to it, i am trying to find a good rom, but i was not successful. Most roms run really stable and well, but mostly all of them sooner or later show bugs, which i cant live with. some of em would not let me answer the phone without locking and unlocking my device first, which often resulted in me calling them back, so my buggy roms cost me real money^^ others restarted the phone when i was using a bluetooth speaker or connecting to my car's stereo, others failed to start my banking app, which was the weirdest bug of em all.
thats why i come to you, dear xda community: whats your favorite rom? whats the most recent and best-maintained 4.4 rom since kitkat was running really smooth?
thanks in advance
Stefan

We don't allow best rom threads on xda as it is kind of disrespectful to developers. If you want a rom with no bugs at all then it is probably best to just stay on stock
