Is there a super wipe script for the Atrix? I want to delete all directories before flashing a new rom, so there are no directories from uninstalled apps, logs, etc.
When flashing a new rom I do the typical - wipe Dalvik, erase boot, system, userdata, cache, webtop, and preinstall...
the two super-wipe scripts I have tried were not compatible and exited before executing, and I'm having difficulty finding one.

What you normally do is just fine. But if you want something automated, try this.

the script you linked to looks like it is an automated version of the wipe process I was already doing.
this is nice, but I was looking for something that deletes absolutely everything. the wipe process I was using does not delete some directories leftover from uninstalled apps.

Wiping with fastboot left directories behind? That is surprising. Where were the directories that weren't deleted and how did you determine that?

they were on the internal sdcard... some were directories that were leftover from uninstalled apps that I don't use anymore or don't restore after flashing new roms, some were temp directories that I created for music/movies/whatever. some of them were regular dirs, some were dirs with a period before the dir name (ExampleDir or .ExampleDir)
another example to overexplain, even the "Music" folder still has all my music after the full fastboot wipe process. I thought a super-wipe script would completely format/erase everything so when I flash the new rom and reinstall apps, there is nothing remaining except for the new rom OS files and apps. (so my music folder would be an empty dir after fastboot wipe and flashing a new rom, adobe wouldn't have files and folders everywhere until i restore it with TiBU, etc)

I have never seen fastboot commands for wiping sdcards. You can either delete the folders manually with a file explorer (recommended), factory reset (not CWM, but from within a GB ROM), or format the sdcards.
Neither fastboot nor any automatic "full wipe" scripts touch any kind of user storage. That includes both internal EMMC and external SD storage. Those are left entirely for the user to maintain.

For instance, I delete most of the notification and ringtones that come with a mod. In fact, I've deleted all of them. I've achieved this using Root Explorer with RW enabled.
But when I go into Settings > Sound > Ringtone\Notification, some names show up. I've tried deleting cache, etc. But no matter how many times I do this the names show up; even after restarting my phone.
2 vanished somehow, but I still have 1 left. Specifically it's called "Teleport". There's no real file and no sound to play from. So when I highlight it, it doesn't play, because I've deleted it. I just want the name gone. The nonexistent files don't show up in any music list or even in file manager such as Root Explorer.
It's been like this for a while. How can I fix this? Any apps, tricks or something?

You could try unzipping the rom, removing unwanted files and then rezipping it.

Wouldn't that usually mess with the MD5 sum and make it corrupt? I could do that, but I'd have to install the rom again over a factory reset.

So don't unzip, use winrar and just delete the files
I suppose.
I think I'm going to update to the latest CM7 rom, as mine is months old. So I'll just do that for the new rom.
Just a few quick thoughts...Have u tried clearing dalvik cache in recovery? Also if u are flashing the same/similar ROM u may not need to do factory reset / wipe data. Though u may need to clear data for Media Storage (and possibly wipe dalvik) before flashing so it has to recreate it after flashing the new ROM.
Odd little problem u have there. Could be worth while to just flash a clean rom and try deleting the files to see if it still happens. Also, u could always delete them from rom before flashing and then try to only restore data from a backup. Kinda doubt that would work but if all else fails.....

Yes, sir (sir?). I have done that as well. No luck.
I deleted the ringtones/notifications in the latest CM7 RC2 released on May 9th before flashing on a full wipe and it worked, but unfortunately the rom kept freezing and restarting so I went back to my nandroid backup. No matter how many wipes and cleans I do on this, plus fixing persmissions etc, nothing works. It's no big deal, really. It just bothers me because I've got OCD and I refuse to believe it's there, therefore not allowing me to pick what I really want (maybe I'm stupid about it that way).
I'm just going to wait until there's a stable release and just start over from there by getting rid of the ringtone/notifications in the rar.

Whilst fiddling with something (trying to fix the fact that copy/paste wasn't working) I deleted a directory (after making a copy of it in /sdcard)
/data/clipboard
and rebooted.
I got stuck in a bootloop. erasing caches etc. didn't help and I also tried to repair permissions, no luck
I have since used adb (in recovery mode) to pull the files from /sdcard and push them back to /data (after mounting it in recovery). I have again cleared caches and repaired permissions but still no luck.
anyone have any ideas ?
I have a week old back up that I can restore but I'd rather fix what I have.

I don't know, why you would delete a system directory, if you don't necessarily know, what you're doing, but that's a different story..
Anyways; No, you can't fix your phone usining ADB.
You don't have to restore your phone, you should be able to get it working, by performing a factory reset/wipe data, in CWM.
And if that doesn't work, then at least you have a backup

Well, basically, the stuff that is in the /data/ partition is also part of the Dalvik VM, which builds up a cache, so, delete those files, the cache is gone, but you haven't told dalvik, that it's knowledge is gone, so it'll look for the files, waiting to build another cache, because it notices, that it's missing.. So, by just copying the files, you're not re-building the cache..
And, also; you deleted the data of ALL the apps, including system ones, so maybe System UI thinks it has to do CSC's work and vice-versa

Hi, i bought my galaxy November 2012 and since then I've made about 30-35 installations of roms..I searched around the forum and it seems that there are leftovers from previous installations, also, in some posts there are scripts that can clean your device, but the download links are broken...Can I delete leftovers manually with a root explorer?
Also, I've noticed that odin has became extremely slow, yesterday i waited for it for 40 minutes, several times I decided that it was stuck....but it wasn't; can this slowness be related to files, left from previous installations?
I saw this app - "Root Cleaner", should I try it out?
How can I make completely clean installation so that nothing old survives? If I use pit. file and odin stucks, will I be able go in "download mode" and reinstall...?

Do not under any circumstances use .pit files!! Only if you're absolutely 101% sure what you're doing - then you can use .pit files. And there's a splendid Odin guide made by XDA's Hopper8. here you can read about it.

I'm a complete noobie, i've read about it, there are 4 scripts, i'm not sure which one to use...
GS2ROMWipe - This wipes pre-defined areas of your device without performing any backups beforehand.
GS2ROMNuke - This does everything a Wipe does, and also deletes the following Android/Application-related folders on the internal and external SD Cards.
GS2ROMReset - This performs a additional tasks on top of a standard factory reset for your current ROM. This is designed to return you current ROM to its factory defaults. You will not have to re-install your ROM after running this. Just reboot and you will enter the Android installation wizard as normal on the first run.
GS2ROMClean - This will remove the following known temporary and corrupt files and folders.
It will attempt to remove them from your internal/external SD card.
I will use Nuke.It says to run it only before rom installations,but how does it work? I go into recovery, install it and how do I run it?

Okay, but keep in mind that this will delete everything even from your internal and external sd cards. So if you have anything of value, anything at all - back it up.
I suggest you download HC-kTool from play store. Back up /efs. Then the files that appear after the /efs folder backup - back them up to your PC or a cloud storage (eg. dropbox) If you want to know which files had been created, sort the files after date. (keep in mind that there will be folder created too and if you've chosen a 'folder come first' policy in your file explorer, those folders will appear after all the lonesome files)
Just to check. In my phone (i just ran it again) there will be two files and three folders containing the necessary files to perform a /efs backup.
Now that /efs is backed up - you are good to go. Just 'flash' the nuke zip file as you would flash any ROM/kernel

Thanks for the assistance! I ran the script through recovery and it "wiped" everything then it warned me to flash new rom.I did so, everything went OK , but it hasn't wiped the internal sd card, all my files are still there, i hope it has erased the leftovers from previous installations....Thanks again!

It wont delete everything in sdcard. The system files will be there, but application data wont.

I've got a question. If I delete all files in the root folder (/ deepest subfolder), what would happen? e.g. /system, /sys, /vendor etc.
If this results in big trouble? Or can I even clean up my phone this way and install all things new (Rom etc.)?

doing that will definitely brick you phone, to factory reset your phone you would format the /data partition or just use the reset option in settings
But sometimes i delete everything from internal and sd space and later, after installing a New Rom clean Master founds old trash =/
Hi guys!
I've been fiddling around with different ROMs. With every new rom I install, I always wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache + Dalvik cache.
However, it seems there still are files lingering from earlier versions (eg. wallpaper settings).
Is it possible, and if so how, to do an ultimate reset, to make the phone as bare as possible before installing a new rom?
I've tried using CM recovery, TWRP, CWM, and others based on earlier mentioned recoveries. Right now I'm running the latest Candy 5 (infected) + CWM
It's not quick but if you encrypt before wiping it that is one way. I've always reccomended doing this when selling your device.

usually I do a full wipe with TWRP (go advanced wipe and check everything including internal sdcard), this will wipe everything you have on the phone like pics and other stuff, so make sure TO COPY THEM FIRST, the are not included in a nandroid backup, had to learn that the hard way
There's no better wipe then what you do (except formatting sd card).
I think the settings that stay between flashing are the one restored by your Google account.
Uncheck backup / restore from Google settings next time you install a rom and it should be all new !

I'm quite sure it's more than just the google back-up files lounging around, but I'll make sure to try and set it up as a new phone next time around. Thank you for your help

If you mean files that are on your sd (internal or external) they are not Google's backup but have no big effect on your settings (except for some apps). If you want to get rid of this, just format your sd.
Now if you mean some settings like the wallpapers, they are restored by Google automatically but the setting is stored on the data partition (which you wiped).
Do you have other examples of things that stay between wipes?

Nothing that comes to mind, only the reoccuring feeling of "Huh? That shouldn't be there anymore". However, I'm quite sure I solved it using PhilZ to advance wipe and wiped everything but the boot.
