nope you can't pause playstore
The only way is to turn off the internet connection.
I haven't tested yet, but if you're on 4.1+, you can go to Settings/Data Usage or Settings/More then Data Usage and disable background data of Google Play Store. That way, you will be able to download the app only when you open the Play Store. Idon't know if leaving the Store pauses the download, but probably. You can try.

Dont think its possible to pause downloads. However you can download the apk or SD card data from a third party website and place it in the phone, most of these links are pauseable. What exactly are you trying to download here ?
Force stopping downloads and download manager does the job for me. To resume the download, just start the downloads app.

Thanks But Unfortunately Didnt Work So I'm Stuck.
You can try removing your account from your device and then sign in again. I get this problem quite frequently on my Note , and Sgs2. I believe removing your account from any Android device requires you to format it.

Uninstall the updates of the Play store from "Manage Apps". Or replace your current "Vending.apk" from system/app with a 2.x version of market . Then everything should work. Don't worry, it will be updated to Play Store in few minutes.
go into settings select apps then look for market select it n clear data, iftht still dont work u can just download the file apk from the internet

It happens a lot, you just go to main menu/config/application, here, search for the google play store app, inside the menu you have to erase data and cache.
Restart the phone and open play google, it will ask for your data again, sync it with your google account and voila! all ready

Go to your phone’s app launcher, and press the Talk app.
If you’re already signed into Talk, press Menu, and then touch Sign out.
Launch Talk again to sign in.

Ok this might be a dumb question but how do I get the play store to open when I click on a link for an app? It use to do it on its own but now it just opens up a new browser tab to play store via browser instead of play store app

Try clearing the defaults of whatever browser you are using, you might have accidentally chosen the browser and the remember check box when prompted. Settings->Apps->browser(whatever you use)->Clear defaults.

Hrmm, only other thing I can think of is maybe clear data for the play store? I would think any play store link should have the option to open the link in the play store app. I think even shortened links work iirc.

Tried cleaning play store app no go either...the whole reason I posted this question to begin with was because I keep getting this message...it'll go to web page of market app but then go straight to this page (screenshot) I have no clue what's going on here
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
So you get to this page, click install, and it sends you to that page? Trying to figure out exactly what's going on while I try and figure this out for you. I don't even remember verifying an app link default on this phone and currently can't find it anywhere... It seems that the HTC browser has a built in default for the web market and chrome has a default for the play store at least this seems to be the case on my device.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Thanks for trying to trouble shoot this for me I'll give you the whole break down...I'll go on Droid Life Twitter, click the web page link for one of their posts about some app they talking about, stock internet browser comes up with DL page and then I click on "play link" which use to pull up the option of opening either browser or actual play store....now it opens browser option then a window pops up that error no internet and goes to the screen that I posted...that's the whole run through
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Try to go into browser settings->advanced and turn off plug-ins. I think I recall that happening to me before.
Ok so that did it for the browser errors thanks! Still no go on pulling up actual play store app but hey this way better than none cause sometimes I can't find apps when I do a search for new apps...rare occurrence but happens every once in awhile again thank you

I've searched for days whether anyone else had experienced this problem regarding play store but couldn't find proper solution!
The problem is, whenever i download large apps from play store (say, 50+ MB), the download suddenly stops. the play store app says its downloading but not a single byte is being downloaded. And the other problem is, i cannot resume downloads. What can i do to fix it?
I thought this would have occurred coz of flashing excessive ROMs so i flashed back to stock but even this didn't solve this problem! this is very frustrating as i am trying to download an app ( of about 800+ MB) for days but couldn't finish downloading it! any suggestion would be appreciable! T

Menu-Settings-WiFi-Menu-Advanced. Make sure it's not set to time out after a while. Also make sure that you actually are connecting to the router, with permission. I know that my router here at home you connect to it, and see it. But you cannot actually use it till you enter the password.

Yea i do. The app downloads but stops downloading after certain time. It gets stuck ( let's say at 70%)
The "downloading" notification on the notification bar also gets stuck. I have to restart my phone to remove it.
P.S. Sorry for late reply.

If the available space in the folder /cache on your phone storage is smaller than 50MB, then you can't download apps larger than 50MB coz /cache is the place to save temporary app files you download from google play. But you can try Java-based Real APK Leecher on your PC to download large apks directly from the store.
Are you on the latest version of the Play Store?

That's the point. The most important defect of android is that the manufacturers paid too much attention on how to adapt the OS for various devices and ignored the actual user experience. As for your question, I searched around and get no answer.
Yet I can give you two suggestions:
1. Download apps from some third-party app download sites which allow you to get apks and bypass play store.
http://www.tipsotricks.com/2012/07/top-10-sites-to-download-free-android-apps.html
Pick up one in this link.
2. Repartition your phone storage. I'm not sure about how to do it coz I haven't tried that before. But I know there are many idle space in other partition like /system which you will never use. So, distribute them wisely.
Good luck!

You're welcome.
You can download not only the apks, but the client of those third-party markets. For instance, here's a link introducing 1mobile.com's client: http://www.1mobile.com/app/market/?cid=9
Directly download link: http://f.1mobile.com/mobile_software/channel/1MobileMarket_c.apk
It's similar to play store and may notify you if there's an update of one of your installed apps. Try app clients made by various websites repeatedly to find out the best.
Also, try some android PC suites which let you to update android apps via PC.

Why don't you download your apps directly via play store? And is it a problem to simply reboot your phone? Anyway, as far as I know, this is the way google works, no matter which phone or which android Version you are using, you will have to reboot your phone to download the apps.

Nope, that's not the way Google works, whenever i choose something on my pc it gets automatically downloaded when i connect my phone to the internet, no issues.
Maybe you can check if you got the Play-service running in the background or not. It usually runs directly after a reboot, that's why the downloads come through, but maybe it gets killed by a taskkiller or something like that.
