Hey,
I want to work on my own rom for my Mini Pro. I downloaded the SK17i_4.1.B.0.587_VODAFONE ES WORLD.ftf file and want to convert it in a flashable zip in order to use it in the kitchen.
I tried these two methods :
[Windows] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849867
[Linux] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513146
However, both are not working. I get errors that are still not fixed.
Do you guys use another method ?
Thanks.
If the decompression of the sin files doesn't work try it with flashtool, first decrypt with tools -> decrypt, you'll get a yaffs2 file from it and then extract yaffs2 with tools -> extract-> yaffs2 then you'll get a folder with the contents of the sin file
Sent from my xperia mini pro running cm10
Thanks I got it working that and extracted the content of the cace, data & system yaffs2 files. From there, what do you guys advice ? Should I turn it into a flashable zip right away ? If so how ? If not, can those extracted folder be used in the kitchen from the get go ?
I'm sorry for those newbies question but I'm just starting on this. If you got a good tutorial, don't hesitate to share !

No you can't straight away use just the system folder . You need a meta-inf folder, updatebinary and updater-script specific for your device. I can help with that if you are interested.

I would love you to teach me !
I've been toying around developping roms for months now and the Mini Pro seems a good device to start with...
Okay first for the sake of meta-inf folder's file structure, do you have any copy of of a working custom Rom for your device? If yes then open the Rom zip file and you would find a meta-inf folder inside the zip file . Just extract the meta-inf folder and zip just the meta-inf folder and upload it here.
hit thanks if I've helped!

So I just use the the meta-inf folder of any similar rom and it will be "flashable" one zipped together ? I wouldn't though it was that easy...
Thanks !
Will try and report.
Ya it should be sufficient but there might be some junk code in it or missing codes for setting permission and symlinks for your Rom so only I asked you to upload it to check for some errors in updater-script . Just open the meta-inf folder and go through the folders and find updater-script file, open it with any text editor (notepad ++ recommended) and just go through the code you'll get some idea.
hit thanks if I've helped!

Use NANDROID backup instead of FTF. Cooking ROM from FTF is very lengthy procedure.

Copy "System.yaffs2.img" file from your memory card CWM backup folder to your PC local drive and extract it using "unyaffs.exe" for that give command "unyaffs system.yaffs2.img". It will extract your system folders and files. After extracting complete delete "lost-found" and "sd" folder if present.

Arey yaar why you need system.img! Create new folder in kitchen and give it name as WORKING_XXX and put these system folders and files which you have extracted from system.yaffs2.img and also put the META-INF folder and Kernel (boot.img) in your WORKING_XXX folder. After that start DSIXDA kitchen and change the updater-script into update-script. Now you can able to modify your ROM as you want. After your modification complete change the update-script to updater-script. Go to META-INF folder and edit updater-script and remove following line :
assert(package_extract_file("boot.img", "/tmp/boot.img"),
write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img", "boot"),
delete("/tmp/boot.img"));

Now select 99 build your ROM. Thats it!
I've been wanting to try the kitchen out to see if I can try deodexing and zipaligning etc on the stock touchwiz ROM I'm running.
Do you think it would work? (despite it being discontinued)
yes it works still, works on ics & jellybean (i use it myself to deodex and zipalign)

Yes dxixda kitchen works but you will need to add another file with gs3 parameters in the edify_defs folder with name m0..still the updater-script does not work . It gives me errors in the installing boot.img stage.. . Anyways you can use the kitchen to create your rom and then package your rom manually using updater-script and update-binary from some other working rom.. Then sign it..
If you or anyone finds a solution to that problem do let us know..

Deodexing will work just fine..no probs..some times you might get an error with one or two apps..just use the option to deodex a single app and you will be good to go..
:good:
Edit:
Most important change the api level to 16 before deodexing..
just make a copy of your zipped rom, drop it into the working folder, deodex the files you want to and then pull those files out of the working folder and drop them into the original rom zip folder (minus the original odexed files)
no need to change anything, no need to drop new files in or mess with update script
as you will use your existing update script/meta inf folder blah blah blah, it means you can say yes to the mods the kitchen wants to make as you will only be taking the deodexed files from there, nothing else
(does that make sense? - im guessing you will ignore this anyway like my previous post))

Sorry for dragging out an old thread but I thought I would have a go with this. I have the kitchen installed, I have put I9300XXDLI5_I9300OXADLI5_I9300XXDLI5_BTU.zip in the original_update and have the m0 file in tools/edify_defs
I then try and extract the ROM but I get an error Error: No system folder found!

Oh yeah, I forgot, the system.img must be coverted from yaffs img to an ext4 file. I believe the utility is called ext2fs (or something like it)
Dsixda's tool should provide that program anyhow.
Well I unzipped the ROM and untarred the md5 and then it at least got me started. I am now just working out what I can do and what I need to get. Thanks for your help.

CERT.RSA & CERT aren't important
but you need the /com folder because it contains the updater-script, which tells the ROM how and where to be flashed
so you can't flash a zip unless you have the com folder, you need to download one (it is kinda standard)

ı see, but the problem is that I am searching for a stock zip flashable firmware. there is none :crying:
thats why I extract the FTF file than extract the system.sin.
I got my Meta-inf folder with only one file inside, got the system folder
but also no boot image? what can I do about that ?
There's no "meta-inf" folder in .sin or .img ROMs as it's a hack used to support permissions (as .zip files don't allow for them) and allow incremental updates where the .zip doesn't contain the whole /system partition

If you have the FW FTF you can extract the sistem.sin from it (with 7-Zip or other software)
Then you extract it's content with flashtool -> Tools -> Sin Editor..
Then you need to get ext4_unpacker and you can extract anything you want from it.
I'd gladly U/L it but I have Xperia P not U.

FTF file is just a zip file, inside it there is a file system.sin you should extract from it.
Any archiving software should be able to do it.
After extracting system.sin, open flashtool go to tools -> sin editor.
Click the 3 dots and select system.sin, click extract data.
When finished there will be 2 more files in the same directory of system.sin, system.partinfo and system.ext4.
system/ext4 is the file you need.
Get ext4_unpacker http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921399
With it you can extract any file you want from system.ext4
