I've been working with a great group of developers over at PPC-geeks.com on the Titan bluetooth problems, and I'm proud to say that our efforts have been fruitful!
The History:
In case you didn't know, the Titan has had horrible official Bluetooth support, and even the custom roms only get it "partway" there.
HTC's latest CDMA device, the Touch, uses roughly the same hardware under the hood as the Titan, however their bluetooth worked flawlessly. So, clearly the hardware is capable, its a matter of running the proper software!
After many attempts at porting the Vogue (htc touch) Bluetooth drivers into any number and combination of titan roms, it was concluded that it is NOT the answer (sorry custel).
This was the first obvious approach, however every attempt had some problem or bug, or sometimes wouldn't even boot up!
So we took another approach...
The Solution:
Update the OS, but keep the drivers from an earlier build that had less new "issues" with BT. The 2.09 rom from sprint had stable bluetooth, however it had poor quality over the headset/handsfree profile. This was apparently NOT an issue with the drivers as much as it was an issue with how the OS handles them!
Replacing the OS with a ported AKU .7 from a Universal, and basing the rest of the rom on 2.09, we have what appears to be a release with stable, decent quality bluetooth that works as it should have out of the box!
More testing is needed, but it seems like the best build so far, and should be a strong candidate as a base rom for future customs.
What this fixes:
-No more poor BT quality
-No more random BT shutoffs
-No more system freezes when coming out of standby due to BT stack left on and disconnected
-No more D-pad lock issues
-Generally stable Bluetooth performance that works AS EXPECTED.
Known issues:
-Alarm Bug, which was and still is a part of 2.09
However, we're working on a fix for this.
Find it here:
ftp://ppcgeeks:[email protected]/Titan/Users/sfaure03/ithinkwegotsit.rar
(as of this writing, the ppcgeeks ftp and webserver have been hit pretty hard, and are timing out an awful lot, so if it doesn't work, try again later. Perhaps someone would like to mirror it somewhere?)
Special thanks to all who contributed to this effort, particularly PPC-geeks users Sfaure03, DogGuy, no2chem, jtrag, and all the others who tested, theorized, and gave sage advice.
Personal thanks to ImCoKeMaN, for explaining how things work and having the patience to answer bizzare questions from the rest of the group.
edit: whoops nevermind
I'm not expereinced enough in using this type of file - can you please tell me what is the procedure to install a .rar file into the phone.
its an .nbh file, rar is the compression method. Its like .zip, only you need winrar (or something compatible) to uncompress it.
there's a tutorial on ppc-geeks (which I should really post here as well) about how to unlock and flash custom firmwares on the titan.
you guys rock!
So installed this ROM a couple hours ago. So far the phone's working fine. Tested BT in my RAV4. Wife says it's much improved -- previously if I called from the carphone she'd known instantly and ask me to switch it off. Now she's says it's fine. (High praise indeed. )
So bottom line: quality issues appear much improved. Major kudos!
Update: maybe I was slightly hasty. So the phone sits in my pocket for a few hours. I press the power button to bring it out of sleep. Password screen takes 15 seconds to come up. Enter the password, Today screen takes 30 seconds. Click on the Voicemail link, get a message that the phone cannot make the call. (low RAM?) Nothing else (afaik) except SPB Mobile Shell running at the time.
Boom, soft reset. Is it the phone? Is it the ROM? Is it me?
Mirror at: http://rapidshare.com/files/71094429/ithinkwegotsit.rar.html
The ROM finally makes my BT usable, but is still quite choppy and compressed. Unfortunately not a true fix for my device.
But, kudos to the developers for getting it to be usable! Thanks!!! You clearly beat Sprint/HTC!
However, my RAZR2 and Touch still have much better BT, so will keep using them at least for awhile.
Will see if the 'official' Sprint ROM (1) actually happens, (2) truly fixes the problem. If not, then I'll use my Touch until the Treo 800w or Titan 2.0 come out and likely swap my Titan at that point.
Unfortunately, even if Sprint fixes BT, Titan 1.0 will never have adequate memory for WM6. Sadly, the lack of memory is an unfixable product design deficiency.

Heh, I love it how everyone keeps badgering that.
Look, I don't want to take my thread off-course, but when WM6 was released, ALL DEVICES HAD ONLY 64MB!
It wasn't until recently that we really started to see 128mb become more standard. The Touch (vogue) is actually the first 128mb WM6 device I've ever put my hands on, and I've had WM6 running flawlessly on the last 5 or so devices I've owned.
So, don't tell me that this is a major unfixable product design deficiency. It'd be nice to have more memory so you can leave more stuff open, but if you're not new to this and know what you're doing, its perfectly acceptable.
::end rant::

I have to agree here - the Cingular 8525 runs quite well with only 64MB of RAM (Other at work run it). My Titan runs quite well with only 64MB of RAM - HTC Home from the touch on the other hand makes it run like a three legged dog. Without the 3rd party plugins it zooms along quite well even with several apps running.

OK - fair enough, my memory comment WAS off topic! BTW you introduced the word "major"; I never said it was major - just unfixable. And, yes, you're right - if you want to manually do the OS's job for it, there is an acceptable workaround.
Interesting, though, that you responded only to that one sentence out of five in my post, not the other four which stated that BT quality is poor/mediocre on my device (which is an improvement from the prior unlistenable state).
Anyway - what kind of success rate are you seeing from various forums with this ROM? I still suspect the problem is partially HW, and that BT on some devices (mine probably one of them) may be unfixable.

Why call out another developer? I fail to see how it was necessary. I'm assuming you have no life, and make roms for a living? I'll download whatever works; but because of your approach to criticize other people who try (which is EXACTLY what you do) to make something work, makes me not want to download your rom.
dishe is an such arrogant SOB, who think he's all that because he's creating ROM...well props to you that you do create rom...but its just people opinion/wish about having more ram (which is UNFIXABLE! on mogul)...you don't have to bash them for it...would u preferred an old style laptop/computer from the 2000's or newer/faster in 07's. However, you might be able to upgrade their RAM through hardware...but does HTC have such RAM upgrade for mogul!? anyways...i'm not hating on your work at all...but i just get disgusted when you go and ranted on someone post (n it was a valid post.)
ps. If you want to brag, make something that's useful w/o any glitches. Success at that then brag all you want, but at this moment you still using the public to test whatever ya doing. So stop tripping home boy.
Wow, I've heard of people venting on forums, but this is rediculous. Did you all have really bad days or something?
Look, there's a lot going on that doesn't take place on this forum. I used to be a big XDA-dev's fan, but unfortunatley I've found that there just isn't enough research and development for our particular device going on here, so I started broadening my horizons.
Maybe I didn't make it clear in the first post, but I didn't make this rom.
At least, not by myself. I worked with a team of people from other boards and we formed a group that has been testing theories and building different rom combinations to try and come up with the best solution possible currently. We've made some amazing progress, and the nostalgic part of me wanted to come back to XDA and not leave you guys in the dark.
We've noticed Custel doing similar things on XDA, and we had already tried a lot of what he was doing. We found that the vogue BT didn't play nice with the rest of the Titan rom components in many situations, yet Custel kept trying. I beleive that some of the devs in our group tried to contact him, possibly even get him involved, share what we've learned so far (collaborative efforts are the best way to go). I don't know exactly what happened after that, and I didn't ask because its not my business. I mentioned him because he's still trying something, where we've had a bit of success. Not that its a race, but it would appear that we got there first using another method. I'm sorry that you read that as a "flame" on his part, I didn't mean to disrespect. Just that we we're doing is not what he's doing, and we've tried that route already.
Some of the others in the group of devs warned me not to go posting here. Thought maybe there would be too much animosity. I decided on my own to bring the information here because XDA was always a great source of info in the past, and there's no reason you guys should be left out. Are you trying to make me regret it, as if I'm wasting my time here?
Lazy and cool6324, I'm not forcing you to try this rom. I'm also not "bragging" about what was created. I'm filling you guys in. If you don't want it, that's fine. I won't bother updating.
hey DISHE
bro u dont even owe these guys an explanation, they contribute nothing and take everything. they dont understand whats involved and quick to criticize anything they dont agree with.
it appears to me that they think they are all that and a bag of chips/ but if the DEVs of these fixes decided not to share, i bet they would keep there mouth shut real quick/
bottom line bro, dont bother posting any more responses to these idiots / look at the end of the "
Hard-SPL - or how to not brick your PDA ever again" post and u will see what these guys are like on this forum, calling each other names and etc just like they r doing now.

Lazee,
its not about kissing ass. Its about appreciation for what these guys do (AND FOR FREE they do it!!!!) they rarely ask anything of the rest of us, if anything at all. Because of the fact that they do give up alot of free time, which they could be doing something else, to help out alot people they dont even know, i have a certain amount of respect for that alone, regardless if they might seem arrogant. the truth is that they really do care about people or they wouldnt even share what they do! theres no law that says that they have to share anything with us/ sometimes its easy for us to forget this and take it all for granit/ lets just call a truce and stop with the name callin and etc and try to maintain a respectible forum ok.
PEACE!!! come on guys we are all in this together
Oh and by the way Custel, u rock bro, do what it is u do and dont stop!! dishe luvs ya nothing personal, i dont want to speak for him but i get the feeling that things might have came out wrong when he was responding to the "lazee's post and was just a lil fluddered.
Just want to know if anyone is actively working on Android for the Titan. I found the stuff for the Vogue, but it's still a bit buggy on the Titan. I'd like to get in contact with someone about testing their builds. I do not have the knowledge to program unix/linux myself, but want to help get this project accomplished. Thanks!
make that two
ditto.
I've got pretty decent experience with linux, but am not really a programmer by any means. If there's anything I can help with I'd be up for it.
all i know is that android was just made open source a few days ago, so hopefully that means somebody will get their hands on that and do whatever it is they do to make it function on our 6800's. and that is all i know...
i'd like to know more though, just dont know where to really look or who to ask as its only been worked on for the vogue- as far as i know.
I wish I had the time to fully take on this project but a current robotics project has me tied up. However, if anyone does find a project, I'll glad to help. While I'm usually a C guy, especially for embedded development I'm fairly familiar with java byte code.
i have booted the vogue version successfully on my 6800, but it's extrememly sketchy. seems to run well, but screen doesnt function 100%, buttons do not work more than I'd say 10% of the time (if at all), sound non functional, no hardware keyboard, etc...
however! i did successfully recieve/make a call. exciting, i know lol
but yeah, there's news and videos all over the net of Android on the TItan, but nothing even close to being functional. not to mention it's still just a skin over winmo. you cannot boot directly into android from a reset.
here's what is extrememly exciting though: I can get 24/25 megs of ram free and can boot into android no prob. what if winmo wasn't running in the background?? there would be so much more free ram! there's roughly 40 megs of ram that winmo is using, plus whatever android consumes, i'd say if someone can get android to boot without winmo in the background, we'd have ~50mb free ram. that's would make this phone run sooo much smoother and more seamless.
I'm convinced that a major reason the screen is buggy on the titan is that it's set up for the vogue, which has a wider screen. I didn't notice this until the last release where the android logo goes off the side of the screen. I don't think it would take much tweaking to get it working well, unfortunately like others, I just don't have the time until the semester's over. If no one has it done by the end of the semester (I hope it happens much, much earlier!) then I would have plenty of time to devote to this project.

Wait.. I was under the impression that haret wiped WinMo from memory entirely, thus requiring the soft reset. Anyway, I'm also interested. You can go to #htc-linux on freenode irc; I hear that work is being done there.
I got it to boot, but not functional
I also have had the same experience described here by other users.
q on the keyboard = menu to unlock the screen.
The camera button pulls up the virtual keyboard but didn't close it for me.
Any other keys people know about?

I've been able to use the power button to close applications (not the end-end keypress that some users have tried and found working)
My camera button opens and closes the on screen keyboard on an all-or-nothing basis (meaning if it opens, it closes - IF it opens at all)
The OSK is actually the only way I've found to unlock the screen.
Other than that, send and end seem to work as normal for making/ending a call
Still very sketchy though, as I've said

Very nice! When I get a free minute I'm going to read through this thread!
First off, F off if people get mad for me pulling up an old thread. Its a stupid reason to get mad. Starting a new thread would make it MORE confusing.
My main point: there are active communities attending to the adaptation of android to their devices, vogue, kaiser, etc. Where is the titan scene.
there doesnt seem to be any one spearheading this for the Titan, is the person hiding or not existent?
Second point: i'm ready to start with this can some one reach out and point me in the right direction, the closest i can find to an active project is this:
http://cs-alb-pc3.massey.ac.nz/vogue/
Magikster (I probably got the username wrong) always seemed to have the best Android build for Titan back before I got my ADP1... I haven't used anything since early January, but it looks like he just released a new build today

Good luck

Actually Magister works with dzo. His kernel changes are in dzo's git (on that webpage). In essence this means that you can use dzo's builds starting from March 11. (http://git.linuxtogo.org/?p=groups/...it;h=aaac085b22894e0ba27fd740f920dbc7cc366cf1)
For the adventurous, this means using nightly builds from http://www.androidonhtc.com/kaiser/latest_builds . Sadly the screen flipping in the wrong direction is present in those bundles.
thanks for the info guys, are either of you working on android development too?
What do you guys think is the best ROM for using the touch pro as it is intended to be first and foremost: a phone.
I'm looking for a rom with no hangups when you want to make a phone call, check a text message or send an email. I find that sometimes my phone hangs (quite badly actually) when I try to use the actual phone bit of my fuze. (IE: Tonight I got pulled over for having an unregistered tag, left the reg at home, tried to call my aunt to bring it to me to avoid having my car impounded and low and behold my phone call screen decides to hang for a good 2 minutes... Lucky the cop felt bad for my seemingly ****ty device and I got off with a warning... :\ )
Also, I find it a pain in the arse sometimes to check, reply to my texts on the go. More often than not the screen hangs for a few seconds between the different screens. I find this so much of an annoyance that I've almost stopped texting all together.
I'm using the RRE 6.5 rom at the moment but this is literally draining the life out of me. any suggestions?
Sounds like you treat your phone as I do ... mission critical device.
RRE's series ROM are great ROMs; a lot of attention goes into ensuring they run as hassle free as possible. That said, Windows Mobile 6.5 is still relatively new and there are some kinks that still need to be worked out.
You may want to look at using a feature lite Mobile 6.1 ROM for the time being. A good indicator of stability is when you see the frequency of kitchen/ROM releases slow down.
HTH,
Thanks for the reply, I'm beginning to think that its a 6.5 issue, but even more so a windows mobile issue... Which is a shame because i've always been a fan of the pc-on-the-go experience of wm as opposed to some proprietary OS by some nameless company for a very specific phone that supports nothing.
Maybe i'm just ranting
It depends on what you want in your ROM.
RRE v3 WM6.5 has been running great for me. There's been a v4 and v5, but I'm sticking with v3 for now since it has run great for me.
WM6.5 isn't for everyone though.
If you don't need TF3D (or don't mind installing it via cab), then look in the March 1st Leaked ATT ROM thread and look for the Da_G stripped version. This is plain WM6.1 with NO HTC stuff. Its as bare as you can get, but fast as hell and very stable. You can find cabs for the HTC stuff if you decide to use it.
+ 1 for NRG minus manila. once you take the manila out, the battery life is excellent....granted, i'm on 2.0 now but was pretty good when i ran 3 as well (switched back for 6.1)....
it's now 5 PM and been off charger since 7:30 AM and with a few phone calls and email twice/multiple texts, i've still got 75% left!!
agree with other member, if you want reliable rom, stick with 6.1. 6.5 has a lot of hiccups. But to each its own. My phone has failed me when I need the most but hey how many times does that happen.
install the new touch pro 6.1 official rom 5.11.xx.xx.xx.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
i made my rom with just that in mind, making the touch pro a good phone first, and a good ppc second. it runs on 6.1 so no hiccups and i tested it extensively.
arrupenthal makes some good stable roms too :}
Why are we having this discussion AGAIN?! Oh yeah, because someone with only 4 posts doesn't want to spend an hour reading but wants to get quick answers to questions that have no easy quick answers.

He did the right thing. He started a new thread instead of clogging other threads with these questions. No one has to enter this. I've been monitoring this because I'm curious to see what people plug here. It's hard to find practical roms unless you read all 150 pages in each good rom's thread because everyone claims: "fast", "great", "best", "stable"... when they really aren't there yet. It's just that some roms aren't fully troubleshot yet. Some people here want to get their money's worth out of a phone they paid a lot of money for and don't want to devote the better part of a day (at the very least) to find something they'll only find a deal killing bug one month later after spending hours putting programs back on their phone after flashing (even after UC).
Sorry for opinion almost unrelated, but I don't post without some kind of contribution of my own:
I currently have been running RRE v3 and its a great rom, but it has some camera bugs with the auto rotate and wm6.5 has messaging uglies. It is by far my favorite performing rom, but the camera bugs. My phone, to me, has to be a phone, gps, camera and music player. I plan to go back to RRE the latest with the 6.1 rom no manila and put on chome. I'll let you know how it works out.
I hope this thread can be a place in which people can come to take a look at great performing roms and dl packages of optimizing software with little time spent reading through bugs and potential bug fixes. This in mind, I'll be on again tonight after hopefully fully testing what I hope to be my rom for about 6 months only reporting great or bad or good (with Quick fixes only).
Thanks to all the chefs for their time.

I could say that I'm closing this thread out of spite (nobody plugs my ROM? )... but it's not the case. This type of thread is not permitted according to the rules of XDA-Developers.
Although it can seem like a daunting task, the best thing for the OP to do is read through a few ROM threads, the first few posts should suffice, for a list of features and a changelog. [Shameless Plug]. Lastly, check the date of the most recent release, and then jump to the posts from that date, going forward.
I've been reading through a couple of threads on this board concerning upgrading my XV6800 to WM6.5 and I have what may possibly be some stupid questions.
First - I'm the happy owner of two XV6800's so I was planning on using the not-currently-activated one as my guinea pig in case I brick the phone. I've downloaded what appear to be the most current upgrade files from theUnlockr.com and some instructions from that site. What I need to know is is theUnlockr a reliable site? Are these the most current files available? I'm currently upgraded to the 3.57.605.2 ROM and the 3.37.78 radio and I am looking to upgrade the HardSPL (which is what, exactly?), the radio (to 3.42.50 - which, if I am not mistaken, someone mentioned was eating battery life?) and the ROM using the version Unlockr has up as their latest favorite (RMverizonTitanWM65V2[1].1Heavy). I am pretty sure I can follow the directions that were given, but I'm hoping someone here can advise me if I should.
With all these updates running around everyone's 'kitchens' - it's hard for a relative noob like me to know which is the best update for her. I don't really need GPS - though I may load Garmin XT on my phone at some point - but I would like to have an efficient, elegant ROM on my phone that will not hog all my memory and will still give me at least all my current functionality (though hopefully more). Should I even be looking to update to WM6.5? Which update version do you folks think is the best for the Titan/Mogul/XV6800?
Thank you in advance for your patience and for the AMAZINGLY generous soul who has spent the time to generate these files! I went to the Verizon site and they don't seem to even remember what the 6800 looks like! And HTC doesn't have much either. I was amazed to find these sites. You guys are a godsend!
Ariel
Follow below just use whatever rom you want. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=33857
Thank you for the thread link. I've upgraded roms before, but it never hurts to have detailed directions like that. Good deal. However, what I was looking for was advice on whether or not the 6800 performs better under the available roms or if, in the experienced opinion of the developers on this site, it was better left as Microsoft intended? Does the fact that it only comes with 64 MB of RAM hurt it when loading WM6.5? Most of the new devices coming out with 6.5 have more than that and I wondered if I could get some advice before I jumped in. That's all.

The Titan is a very durable device. In my experience you can flash it at least a hundred times..
So my advice is to try as many ROMs as you like. 6.1, 6.5, Light, Heavy, Naked, Stock. Whatever it doesnt matter. Just keep going until you find what floats your boat.
LOL! Well, I doubt I'll be doing it a hundred times, but I figured I'd try and save myself some mistakes by asking the experts who have.
BTW, I think you were the one who came up with the ROM I've loaded (2.1 heavy) - very nice so far! I'm still getting a feel for it and I haven't tried to load any of my own software on it yet, but so far it's very slick. Thanks!

No problem sir. Glad I could be of assistance. My main computer is broke at the moment and I awaiting a new power supply now, currently using my spare computer (I dont have a spare 1000watt power supply to run my main pc for the banterers lol). Or else I would have my ROMs updated. More for you to mess around with. But the ones I have uploaded now should work out fine. I noticed in the nuetools folder though the leds shortcut is a folder. I fixed that though just have to re-cook and re-upload. Among other changes.
If I were to upgrade to the fix you describe, I'd only have to do the ROM again, right? The hardSPL and radio would be fine? See? I told you, stupid questions...
you are correct only the rom
Hello All:
I have searched high and low and cannot find any satisfactory answers to the question of the benefit of updating my phone to gingerbread and the newer radio etc.
I currently am using BAMF Remix 163 with the 447 kernel.
I am not experiencing any problems other than battery life, but it seems par with everyone.
The real questions I have is what would updating do for my phone? If it is beneficial to update, can I update only the particular items like baseband and android version etc?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thank you,
hg
Just do it, seriously. If there was no need for improvement than they would never build a new os.
Why not? Check the release notes on verizons website to see what was improved.
Well I actually would of done that few ago but I couldn't figure out/find out how to do it without a whole new ROM and such. It took me quite a while to get my phone the way I like it in appearance and function.
Believe me when I say, I have been searching post after post but it seems every update involves appearances, programs, start splash screens etc.
Is there a way to update to GB without changing everything? I have and use Titanium among others. Are using those type of programs the only way to update to my current state?
Note: I have no problem with changing the radios, kernels etc.
My appologies, if there is a thread somewhere in here on this, I couldn't find it. It is rather amazing how fast and proficient all the Devs produce and publish their work, there's so much info.
Wow and Thank you!
If you're happy with what you have, then you don't have to feel pressured to update. That said, from what I understand, GB updated a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff including process management, etc. I think most people see better battery life and probably speed as a result of this. There weren't a lot of UI changes on the stock rom, but on the custom one, there are usually a lot of improvements, so it may be worth at least checking out. You will need at least a new radio, but you can find more specifics in the thread for your rom.
Thank you all, I'm sold, going to update momentarily. (Soon as I pick ROM, not going to be easy with all the great works to choose from.)
Have a good holiday all!!!!!!
BTW: It was the "extends battery life" that pushed me over the apex. I will try anything to that end.
Don't forget to back up your current rom first. Just a friendly reminder. Its not something you want to be thinking of right as you notice the update didn't work right, and definitely not something you want to shoot yourself in the foot on more than twice. That hurts.

OMG- (sorry for the cliche) but OMG, what a difference.
I found (made) the time yesterday to update to GB and I noticed a fair amount of differences in smothness, speed, and best of all, a slight but significant to me improvement of battery life. I know it's a little early for such an assessment, however, I do know my phone and...
I feel like I should write 1000 times:
I will not wait to update. Updates are good.
I will not wait to update. Updates are good.
I will not wait to update. Updates are good.
...
Once again as is par for XDA- Thank you everyone for all the sound advice.
