Hi I've been trying to change individual icons for my apps in MIUI with no luck. Does anyone here know how to change the icons?
Or if the only way to do it is to make my own theme, does anyone know how to do that? I've tried to follow a guide on the MIUI forum with no luck. It was a really easy thread and just didn't work at all.
Have also tried to modify an already existing theme with no luck. (rename .mtz to .zip. unzip, change the icons they have in there, rezip, rename to .mtz, do import theme from theme manager).
This has been bugging me, so if anybody knows that would be amazing! Thank you!
There might be an easier way, but I'm pretty sure you can open each application apk with a zip tool(winrar) and pull out the image icon, then edit it and replace the original in the zip tool(overwrite). then push the apk back to your phone.
I've tried most of the roms out for this phone and like the new funk for 2.3.4 and the pull down toggles but I would like a black theme pull down instead of the blue I always see. I don't necessarily need someone to make it...I'd appreciate just a link to a how to or maybe even for making a rom...but Im taking steps. If anyone want to make one and post it awesome but id also appreciate any help. Pm me a link, info, or help. Thanks in advance
Will see what I can do this afternoon if no one does it before I get home.
You can also use the UOT Kitchen I'm nowhere near a computer right now to give you the link.

ya, i saw somewhere you had already posted something about this...and i looked the site over. Although it is what I'm looking for it is very limited and isn't completely customizable(looking to make something more from scratch). I got your pm and will flash it a little later to see how i like it. Thanks
PS: I'm running adw black theme as well(which is why I'm looking for more black lol)
No problem I'm just learning myself once I can get the changes to stick I will be ok. Hoping yo finish up learning to theme and port pretty soon.

I, too, would love to have a black notification bar. Trying to figure out how to use UOT kitchen now. Lol
UOT instructions
1. Pull the rom zip off your phone place on desktop of cpu
2. Download 7 zip.. use this program.. right click on your rom zip.. click 7 zip.. extract files.. this will open up the zip and create a folder where u can now view and take out the 2 apks you will need..
3. Go into the folder and click framework...scroll down until u see a file called frameworkres.apk.. drag this onto your desktop
4. Go back one time and then click system.. then app...scroll down until u find systemui.apk.. again drag onto desktop
5.go into kitchen and make your mods.. always click on the box use this mod and also generate preview to see what u r doing
6. Make all your modifications then go to upload files
7. IMPORTANT ..always make sure u click amend script.. its default at binary.. we need amend scripting for our recovery
8.go to system files and upload framework Res.apk and system ui.apk from your desktop
8. Go to summary and and make sure everything is green.. if it is click submit work to kitchen..
9. Go to pickup page and wait for your cooked file to show up
10. Save to desktop then place on SD card

First, download APK manager (search xda or google) and learn how it works. It's really straightforward, just mess around with it by dropping some apk's into the "place apk here for modding" folder and use the options to see what they do.
After that, find an AOSP rom and gapps, and put all of the apk's that you want the icon from into the modding folder, and extract each one. Now go to the projects folder, where you will find a subfolder for each app. In each app's subfolder, find the images folder, locate the app's icon.
Next do the same thing with the Sense version apps, locate the icon in the images folder. Take note of the name. Then go back to the AOSP icon and change the name of the file (if needed) to the same name as the Sense version icon. Last copy/replace the AOSP icon over the Sense icon, rezip the apk (using apk manager), push it to the /system/app folder on your phone (either with ADB or a file manager on your phone, if you do it either of these ways, a flashable zip is not needed), reboot, and you're done.

I think there's some threads around xda on that, I just always theme stuff for myself cause I don't have time for people's requests so i've never looked into making flashable zips. Probably not too hard though. Have fun!
Hi there! Just wanna share..
Just a basic background on how to theme your ROMS. - ofcourse, give thanks to the developer of your ROMs! .
I made this thread for those users who have personal wishes for their Phones. Ofcourse, ROM developers cannot please all of its users. so just make your own and be happy!.
I just made it easy for easy understanding and for the newbies.
Tried so many times and tested
I've already tried editing the systemUI.apk of different ROMs.
Here's what I did :
FIRST : Download 7zip to open the archived apk. - that's free.
Extracting first the Zip File..
(make sure you copy the original before extracting it for back up)
1. Download the ROM.zip and extract it to your PC.
2. Go to \system\app\SystemUI.apk\res\drawable-ldpi\
3. View the PNG files you wanted to change and make sure to remember its' file name.
4. After editing/changing the file/image you wanted, you can save it anywhere from your PC, let's say on your Desktop.
- Make sure that the file name still remains as is..
*After you're done editing, updating the PNG files you wish to change, follow this steps to update the zip file :
NOTE : You can apply transparency by editing the PNG file to photoshop by reducing the opacity of the image
1. Go to the original ZIP file of ROM.Zip from your PC
2. Right Click the folder and select 7 ZIP -->> open archive
3. Close all of windows/Browers (or minimize)
4. Go to \system\app\SystemUI.apk\res\drawable-ldpi\ and it will open a new window of 7zip showing the files inside the zip.
5. Now, given your edited PNG files or downloaded png files (assuming that files are located in your desktop). - Click and simply DRAG the file(s) from your desktop to \system\app\SystemUI.apk\res\drawable-ldpi\ .
6. It will ask you to confirm the action for it will replace the existing PNG file that you're trying to change.
7. Make sure that the file name of the one you edited/downloaded are THE SAME. -
8. After dragging and replacing the files you wanted, then you're good to go!
9. Close the 7zip window and that's it!.
You can now install the .zip by copying the UPDATED zip file to your SD Card.
(Note: Make sure to copy the updated one, not the backed up one)
Install the zip file from the original thread's instructions and reboot twice.
After that, you have now a customized systemUI.apk.
For those who do not want to reinstall the whole package.. follow these steps:
1. I assumed that you have the zip file of your ROM.
2. Extract it and go to \system\app\
3. Separate the SystemUi.apk - put it on your desktop. create a back up,
Right Click SystemUi.apk and select 7 ZIP -->> extract here - just to view the files you wanted to change.
Just go the folder and search for the PNG files.
4. Right Click SystemUi.apk and select 7 ZIP -->> open archive.
5. Go to \res\drawable-ldpi\
6. Click and simply DRAG the PNG file(s) from your desktop to \res\drawable-ldpi\
7. It will ask you to confirm the action for it will replace the existing PNG file that you're trying to change.
8. Make sure that the file name of the one you edited/downloaded are THE SAME. -
9. After dragging and replacing the files you wanted, then you're good to go!
APPLYING :
1. Download and install rootexplorer.apk
2. Download the png files you wanted to update.
3. Copy and paste the NEW SystemUi.apk that you have updated/Edited to your SD card.
4. Open root explorer in your galaxy y then go and tap MOUNT R/W.
5. Go to \SDCard and go to new SystemUI.apk that you have updated.
6. Long press the file and select copy
7. Press back and go to \system\app - tap MOUNT R/W at the top.
8. Paste the new SystemUI.apk from there.
(Note : You will encounter a lot of force closes for the exixsting systemui is currently being used by your phone. - just ignore it a lot and scroll down to look for the new SystemUI.apk.
9. Once you get there, long press on it and select permissions:
from the pop up, make the checked one like this :
•___•____ •
•___ .____.
•___ .____.
where Dots are the checked one - Bigger dots
After encountering a lot of force closes, then reboot the phone and that's it!
(Force Closes are normal, DON't PANIC - logically, you are currently using your systemUI.apk so just ignore it
NOTE : You can also apply the same steps in editing system files apps, just edit the .png files and locate it using 7zip(when you already opened it). Have a little LOGIC on how to edit system app background - same process. just different apk files and directory
HIT THANKS IF I HELPED YOU - IT COSTS NOTHING ;]
nice guide
you can also add this:
Install via ADB:
adb root
adb remount
adb push [file location in PC] /system/app/systemui.apk
Click to collapse
no need to set permissions via ADB
also its better to use apk multitool since it can compile/decompile the apk's, if you extract the apk using 7zip or archive softwares you can't read the XML's and you can't compile them properly which results to force close issues when pushing into system

Thanks! not that sure how to use that that's why I made it my on way
more easy steps and understandable for newbies.
EDIT :
Yes you it will require to extract the apk files but just to view the image you wanted to change.. the original apk file will be opened thru 7zip and just replace the selected png. It is not recompiling the apk file at all
Tried and tested by the way
try and test it out yourself:

Hmm... if you want a default wallpaper, create a folder named "Wallpaper" inside "SYSTEM" folder and create another folder inside it named "default_wallpaper" then put the jpg file you wanted..
(you can use rootexplorer)
make sure that the file name of the default wallpaper is "default_wallpaper.jpg"

First of all sorry for my english
Now question: How can I change my LockScreen Icons from stock to look like this one?
(I really was looking for some kind of info in and out the forum but didn't find anything)
Thank you anyway
I think you want to change which icons are used? Don't worry, I had the same problem finding the location too.
Go to:
Settings, Security and Lock Screen, Lock Screen Options, Shortcuts.
How this helps!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
you would have to change the icon in apk itself unless someone creates a mod which allows changing them.
res/drawable-xhdpi

1. Pull the apk from your phone to PC (Use root explorer or something similar) - ex. SecPhone.apk for changing Phone icon
2. add ".zip" to its name at the end.
3. Open with winzip
4. find and replace the old icon with new one
Which apk is the lockscreen apk?
You need to pull the SystemUI.apk from \System\APP folder in your ROM or flashable rom file
then open the .APK with Winzip
goto res/drawable-xhdpi folder and edit the Icons as wanted,
Delete the SystemUI.zip from the flashable ROM
Click add ZIP and re add the new SystemUI.zip to the flashable package
Go into CWM and Flash
New try
