I have a Droid RAZR running ICS and starting this morning I started receiving the message "Unfortunately, the process android.process.core has stopped" with an 'OK' to dismiss it.
My RAZR is not rooted. I uninstalled two apps that I downloaded on Saturday and I have rebooted twice today. I have also cleared cache. I have searched using google and most of the responses are to "reset to factory settings". While I don't really mind doing that, I can't imagine that it is totally required. Seems like that is a natural response to anything that goes wrong.
What could be causing this issue and what do I need to look for?
Thanks....

Fixing permissions with the filesystem would work if you were rooted but the apk that process is not setting well with the data and wiping data cache a.k.a. factory data reset is a not rooted approach.

So then what would have changed the file permissions you speak of? I have had android phones since the original Droid and have never ran into this .... so, why all of a sudden. Resetting the phone to me is not a good answer. I would like to know what caused the issue so that it can be avoided in the future. Wiping a phone is not something that I want to be in the habit of doing. And, like my original post said, that seems to be everyone's answer. Sure, it may be the easiest.....but, I want to dig deeper and find the cause.....

It seems that many, if not all, of the apps I try to 'update' in the Android market generates an error on the Prime that says 'Application already exists' in the menu bar with an ! icon. This is annoying... I can uninstall / reinstall the app to get an update, but whenever I just click update in the Market, I get this error a lot.
Of course the application already exists! I'm updating it. Stupid Prime.
Does anyone have a fix for this? I searched the forum and didn't see anyone mention this annoying problem.
Are you getting system reboots?
Rumour has it the system reboots are a result of a failure while optimizing apps for ICS during the upgrade process.
Sounds like perhaps your OSs view of your apps is a little messed up...

No. Actually, I seem to have the least amount of problems with the Prime compared to most on the forum. Really, this issue and the weak GPS signal are the only ones I've had. Well, and the decreased wifi bandwidth when streaming bluetooth. But everything else generally runs smooth.
Two apps for example that I had this issue with... updating Google Voice and eTrade. Both of those for sure gave me the error that the app already existed. Uninstalling and reinstalling worked fine to grab the latest version.
Actually, I take that back. Sometimes when I do an uninstall / reinstall, it still says there is an update available.

Unfortunately I have the same issue. I haven't found a good way to work around it yet. As you have found sometimes uninstalling works and sometimes not.
Sometimes uninstalling it, rebooting the Prime, then reinstalling it works. Although, that's still sometimes as far as I can tell.
I've just started getting this issue when trying to update Officesuite Pro, first time it's happened.
Oddly enough when first typing this reply my Prime locked up and rebooted itself, which it's not done before.
Never had a reboot under ICS, at least not yet. But quite frequently have this problem. So I guess there is no correlation between the two.
The only anomalies that I experience are Skype or Talk video calls that suddenly die. No FC or any other message, Skype or Talk just exit.
I bet these types of problems will go away with a root and a custom rom in the future. Wish Asus would release the bootloader unlocking tool already!

Can you do that on a non-rooted Prime? I'm just waiting for the official unlock tool to go through that process.
This has happened to me on select apps too. Particularly xe app and officesuite pro. Can't seam to update them to the current version no matter what I do. Unistall/reinstall, clear delvik, and clear market data hasn't worked for me

Yeah... right now for me, it's Google Voice. And the worst part is, you can't get it to stop saying it's updating the market app even though it stops almost immediately. Annoying.
I get this sometimes, but I press update again and it updates fine

Random reboot is a normal way of life with android. A reboot here or there is nothing to worry about. Most of the time its from a bad app you installed. Now if you rebooting several times a day, then that's a problem. Its actually good to reboot or at least power down n then back on device every once in a while. It'll give device a fresh start on RAM and clear any mishaps that may have or could occur. Same deal with Ipad. They recommend rebooting every now n then for a fresh start and to have more ram available for use.
I haven't had this happen on my Prime, but I was having this same issue today on my Sprint GSII.
Not sure if this is a work around, but it just worked for me. Instead of updating the app from the 'my apps' section of the market, I went to the page in the market with the full app description. I clicked the update link there and it installed fine. I'll have to test this theory out more.
i too am facing similar probs. while updating WhatsApp and Skype too it shows that the application is already existing.
pls. note. both WhatsApp and Skype are under different Accounts
can this cause a prob that previously i would have installed it by 1 account and later on by another account when i changed the phone ?
pls. guide.
I purchased this app and I am having an issue where it wont save the settings.
I posted on their help page saying I couldn't get it to save my settings and thought maybe I was doing it wrong, and got this reply.
Hello,
you are not doing anything from. This is a well known problem on some Samsung devices, since the update of Android version 2.2.1. The settings of some apps are not saved permanently. Once this problem occured, this will happen again and again.
As the problem seems to be caused by a bug in Samsung's version of the Android OS I am afraid to say that we can't do anything against it. We hope that Samsung is about to fix the reason of this in the future. Maybe you can contact the Samsung support, that they hopefully
accelerate working on that issue. So unfortunately your device is affected by this problem. Some people told us that a factory reset helps them out of this really annoying problem, but I won't guarantee for anything. That's up to you.

Now I have been running the Galaxy S since launch day and my Galaxy SII since December. I frequent the forums here daily. Yet I have never seen or experienced anything like this happening before. Is their reply BS or have I missed something in my readings? And if they are correct, is it fixable with a hack? I really like the program.

Weird. I use business calendar, and haven't noticed any issues with it not saving settings. I honestly don't make too many changes to the defaults though, so maybe it's something you are doing that I am not? If you want to give me a specific case that you can reliably reproduce, I'll give it a shot to see if it loses that setting for me as well...
All I have to do is open it and it goes right to the 'Welcome to Business Calendar' page nearly every time. I change the week to start with Sunday and the day to start at 7:00am, then when i reopen it goes back to the welcome page and my settings are gone.
Oddly it did that for a while, then it seemed to not, then it started again.
It does it for sure right after a reboot. I stopped rebooting to see if it would fix it but it doesn't.
I was considering switching to CM7 to see if that fixes it, but I like ICScrewd.
have you tried reinstalling the app? Maybe something happened during install. I also have Business Calendar and never have any problems with it (and I've changed the settings in the app, just as you are trying to do)

I'm also running ICScrewD (2.1, with Entropy DD 3/7/12 ATM but also with Siyah .13 for a while). Just tried changing week start day to Sunday (actually, shoulda done that a long time ago ) and could not duplicate your issue - closed out and re-opened, and it opened back up to the calendar.
As my friendly nemesis Mr. NYYDynasty said (yeah, I live in New England, I'm a BoSox fan ) it could be a bad install. You might also want to try clearing app data from
menu>settings>applications>business calendar>clear data
before remove/reinstall...
Good luck.
Thanks guys, I will give that a shot. I pretty much figured I would get better advice and help here on XDA than I would from the developers help page.
I will post back what happens after i give it a bit.

Well clearing data didn't help. As a matter of fact, there is nothing showing in the data indication before I clear it. 0.00B. Do you guys show some kind of volume on that data? I have nothing there or in the cache.
Its not saving anything in there I guess? It will work fine until I close it out. If I force stop it and then reopen its back to the welcome page.
I will try deleting and reinstalling.
edit: Nope, didn't fix it. I did have 16.00kb in the data section after a re-install and save so I was hopeful and it even showed that amount after a reboot but still went back to the welcome screen and lost my changes after the reboot.

I got no clue though why it isn't working...

I run this app with no issues. Have not seen the behavior you describe. Do you by chance have both the free and paid versions installed at the same time? If so, delete both, reboot, and just reinstall the paid version. Just a wag....

I purchased the app straight off. Never tried the free version.
Deleting data and uninstalling has proven unsuccessful so I guess we are out of luck here.
I guess the developer was correct in saying some Samsung devices have an issue with it.
I am happy with the way my phone is set up right now but if I change the rom I will give Business Calendar a try then. Maybe a wipe and reinstall would change things. I am kinda holding out for CM9 before I do that though.
Seems to have been fixed when I switched to CM7 and then to RockRatts Cobra v2b. That leads me to beloved its not really a Samsung issue but rather a formatting issue.

First off I would like to say that I just joined and with some forums you re supposed to do an intro when joining. I couldn't find an into section so please tell me if I should do one.
Anyway
Ok so ever since I got the side loaded JB on Christmas, I have had this weird Google drive problem. All of the text in my documents come out huge! The picture is of 12pt font. It is so big that it makes it unusable because you can't read and edit well. I know that selecting open in browser makes the text smaller, but that is annoying too because there are no features on the editor that way and it is kinds cumbersome. I use Google drive alot for documents so this issue is very frustrating. I have since updated to the new jb as well as wiped both caches and did a factory data reset and it is still the same. The only thing I haven't tried is doing an rsd sbf flash of the stock firmware but I would rather not have to do that. I have also tried reinstalling the app and clearing it's data and cache a million times with so no success. Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions on what I should do? I am rooted if that helps. Thanks for any help. Hate to come out and ask a question on my first post but..... I did
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
The screenshot won't upload, but I assure you. The font is big!
OK, so I did a ton on work on trying to solve the problem today to no avail. I reflashed JB from RSD lite as well as wiping cache and dalvick cache many times along the way and a zillion factory resets. I even synced the phone with a new Google account and downloaded drive from that account and still the same error. I am baffled. I effectively have created a new phone software wise yet it still is messed up. I think i am going to take it to Verizon and see if they can fix it. I don't know how they would... you think if I blame it on Christmas jb (which is what caused it) they will give me a new phone?
I'm using a Rooted Droid X2, Android Version 2.3.5, Running the Eclipse Rom v2.3.
The problem I'm running into is that my camera will not work.
At times, I cannot open the camera at all, receiving the message that the camera cannot initialize. Other times, I can open the App, but everything is black, as in the camera isn't on. When I try to take a picture, the flash will just turn on and stay on, and the phone will freeze and I have to restart. I can access settings sometimes, but often the application will freeze and close, saying that the process com.motorola.camera has stopped working. I've done battery pulls, power cycling, and cleared the cache partition. I've spent days searching for other similar threads, related posts, and just plain old googling. My Droid X2 is one of those funky ones that doesn't like safemode, so I can't try that, but I've deleted virtually all of my apps. I downloaded the App called "z-device test," and it says that it can see my camera, and flash, so I'm lead to believe that I have a software problem.
What should I do?
I'm a bit of a noob, so laymen terms would be appreciated. Any and all help is also appreciated in advance! (If anyone is still behind the curve as far as I am, and even notices this post)
Follow Shadow's SBF guide. If everything else fails and you suspect software, SBF back to complete stock. If you still have issue, then it is hardware failure.

Not sure what is causing this to my Nexus 9 lte on t-mobile. It has been working great then today this message will just not stop popping up.
I've trying going to the apps area and uninstalling play store update, clearing cache but it's tough to do since when you click ok on this message, it immediately pops right back up.
I've tried wiping dalvik and cache in recovery to no avail.
I have even nandroided back to the stock with root I created immediately after I rooted using the wugfresh program.
It boots fine, then I install the programs I need to install and update the apps. All works fine. However, when I reboot, this message comes back again and pops up immediately again once I hit the ok button.
Please help. I figured once 5.1 came out, I would just wipe and flash the 5.1 but the way this is going is pretty much rendering my tablet useless since the message is always popping up.
Please help. Thank you,
Whiteice

Same here. Untouched stock 5.0.1 ROM. WiFi only tablet.
Might be worth mentioning that I got a google app update today before this started happening.
What the **** Google!!!!!!!
Tablet has important work stuff and its unusable now.
Weird. I just had the same thing happen on my MotoX (2013) yesterday, but my N9 is fine.
My MotoX is rooted, so I manually deleted all gapps from /system/app/ and /system/priv-app/ and /data/app/ then reinstalled SlimRoms minimal gapps package. I never did figure out what the exact problem was.
---update---
Rats, I spoke too soon. Got this error again on my MotoX today. Fortunately, it only seems to pop up once a day, so I can live with it for now.

mine is doing this today too. first time I've reboot in a while and it started up after the boot. im on stock with fire ice kernel. musta been a google play service.update that broke something.
I had this happen today: constantly popping up making tablet virtually useless.
tried various things, wipe cache/dalvik, reset all app preferences, and others.
This is what finally worked:
Settings->apps->all->Google play services->manage space->clear all data
This is a rooted WiFi N9 running stock 5.01
Hope this helps!
i cleared data and cache of just about everything and unistalled everything i could (tedious task trying to hit the screen before the anr pop up). i just used this as an excuse to switch from stock to AICP - i'm on wifi only. so no biggie and i got a better more customizable version of lolli. still PIA that it even happened.
This just happened to my N9 wifi this morning. It rebooted on its own (stock but rooted) then the message came up. The problem I had was that the message wouldn't stop so I couldn't access anything in the Settings. I tried the no wipe with Wug's but no change. Trying a wipe mode. What a PITA. Heading to google forums to see what's been reported.
The problem is being reported at google products forums--happening on N5 also. So far, wipe with toolkit (even using the factory reset mode) hasn't done anything. On to checking which recovery I have and do on tab reset.
Happened again this morning!!!
Tablet startup was unusually slow then i was greeted by gapps crashing over and over rendering the tablet unusable.
I'm starting to think this is caused by data corruption. Filesystem or nand problems?
Lollipop is killing lots of nexus 7 devices, I'm worried we might be next!!!

Google play services was updated to 7.3.28, see if that's the version you have. Also try clearing cache for it.

I followed jetfin's suggestion and cleared all data and it worked!!
A Google search reveals that a lot of people have had this issue for the past couple of months.
It saddens me to see the state that android/Google are in.
Edit: looking at battery usage, I found that the dex2oat utility has been working too hard. I'm guessing the problem is with ART corrupting the play services update. Either a ROM issue or a bad update from Google!!
Works!
