Hi guys,
Just wanted to ask about the compatibility of Pimp My Rom on our Players (4.0/5.0/any):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908269
Thoughts?
considering our devices are based off of the S1, you would think it would work just fine.
However, I don't feel like taking any "risks" atm.
I've installed/run it on my player with no ill results, though I haven't noticed much change. On the other hand I didn't select any tweaks that would immediately visible, either.

I just updated to ics build!!! its working gr8 most of my apps works gr8 but sound setting on nook tweaks is not working!!! it force closes every time i tried to use it!!! other option works like overclocking and everything else except sound setting!!! any idea what goin on???
thanks to all the awesome devs for making it possible to run ICS on my nook!!! i can now brag to my friends about having ICS device running on my car as entertainment center!!! thank u all so much!!
well considering that Nook Tweaks was not designed for ICS, I would Not expect everything to work perfectly.
That being said I'm using Eyeballers build with OpenGL and I'm not having this issue. his builds can be found here http://techerrata.com/browse/nightly_kangs/encore
keep in mind that ICS on the nook is still very early in the beta stages and a lot of things will not work or not work as intended.</strike>
Update NVM I can open the audio menu but trying to go into the sub menus cause the app to freeze. Just goes to show you ICS is not ready for a Daily driver yet. still lots of work to be done.
Thatz what i thought too....i use my nook color for music and other stuff in my car and that boost on sound would be really good!!!
Looks like the audio boost functionality requires some hooks in the kernel before it can actually do anything. I'm slowly teaching myself this stuff but if I get a chance I will take a look this weekend to see if there's any way to port those parts of the gingerbread kernel over to ICS
Ok so yesterday I got a new Htc One X I Rooted it and put clockwork recovery onto it but I find my self in situation where i can't pick the right rom for me to use.
I am after a rom that
Keeps the beats audio and camera features of HTC sense.
Has Great Battery Life.
Has more supported file formats in video and music categories (not a must but would be great)
I would really appreciate it if anyone has any opinions on this.
Cheers
You can check out Android Revolution HD 5.2.0.It is improved version of stock ROM.No visual changes etc.

Cheers man thanks for the information.
Does it allow different file formats ?
Just try every rom, then you know which is the right for you.
Done it myself too

Please refer to zaclimon's excellent all-in-one
Many people will be attracted to this device because of the sound quality delivered by the Wolfson Microelectronics WM8994 DAC. However the full potential can only be released by installing supercurio's Voodoo Sound (Google Play)
This requires root and a suitable kernel. The custom kernels referenced in the guide are all based on -SteveS-'s and will do the job.
So now to choose a ROM...
For some reason all the stock based ROM's appear to include the Beats Audio MOD (Introduced by klin1344 in R2.1 of his Klassic ROM and included by all followers). Some claim this improves the sound quality, but I would strongly disagree. Unfortunately it appears to be hard/impossible to remove.
The SGS ports have issues with camera and bluetoth and the non-stock based ROMs have their own issues which may put you off.
So that leaves us with... Stock
Don't worry, all is not lost, with a few tweaks it will work well.
First use the all-in-one to install a custom kernel and root your device.
Required apps
Voodoo Sound
Rockbox or PowerAmp
Total Commander (or any other root explorer)
Your launcher of choice (ADW free works well for me)
All your favourite apps...
Remove Music 1.1.1 and any other stock apps that you don't want.
Copy .nomedia to your music folder (for me the root of my external sd card) to avoid all your album art appearing in gallery and to make startup quicker and save your battery.
Any other alterations will be to personal taste, but you will have a great sounding player with superb battery life and everything works...

You can download the build 3.5 of ICS for the 4.0 It includes voodoo kernel module so no worries. The only problem for audiophiles though is no deep sleep and maybe lags (because of no openGL).

Thanks, I will give it a try. Lack of deep sleep is not such a huge issue - attempting to deep sleep and crashing is
A fully functioning CM9 would be great

Most ROMs have Voodoo, and you can download it anyway. What you want to check is the kernel Scheduler used by default. I've found that under some load I had noise and, rarely, lags when I was heavily multi-tasking.
I don't think there's anything that can really affect the sound quality. Has anyway seen if Samy had patched the sound driver in their stock kernel for some tweak?
actually if you read through the change log there are several versions of klins and even one or 2 of Han's ROM's where they removed beats audio because of how it broke other things, till they got a newer version of beats that didn't break it anymore.

Agreed, I jumped the gun a bit early with the ethereal Rom as i simply was flashing rom over one another and come to find out some files stayed with the conversions. With a fresh wipe and back to stock, I installed ethereal and haven't looked back - an excellent rom that eats alot less ram compared to Icy Fusion (of course nothing really touches stock in regards to ram until the ics rom comes to full fruitation). Beats doesn't even activate until you grab the driver app (which I haven't done). Using the voodoo control app instead, all is well with great battery life too!
Hello everyone, help me please, I'm sick and tired of stock firmware, I would like to move on cyanogenmod 11, but I am haunted by the lack of stock music player and video list may have sposob make them work on the cm 11, I understand that in the cm of another application media server, can can solve the problem? (of course quite elegant could cram even video codecs from stock firmware even without stock video player) Help, can you somehow them to port, stock music player with his equalizer + Viper give wonderful sound. Do not tell, because why? And maybe there is some sort of video player animated preview app-like video list?
There are ups and downs to different types of roms.
TouchWiz: Laggy(yds), features u will miss when gg to aosp etc, camera, the apps by samsung
Aosp etc: Poor camera quality, the stock music player app is not good, however very fast and snappy, no lag at all.

on the lg p990 forum we had the same problems with cyano.
Someone ported part of the lg framework on AOSP and we were able to use the official lg's camera (extracted from ICS) on cm10, instead of the crappy aosp one.
No way we can do something similar with i9300?
sorry, but it's not about the pros cyanide, about samsung apps, frameworks and TouchWiz also have ports, so why not to port these two applications?
Hi,
I have one problem with AOSP roms and I consider this as the biggest one.
I have a Galaxy S3 I9300 running Stock 4.3 deodexed, zipaligned etc.
Now with this ROM I am able to play almost all types of video files...Why is this not possible with AOSP roms?
I have always seen people installing different types of Apps (MX Player, VLC Player etc. etc..) to get all the videos playing...
But TouchWiz plays almost all types of videos out of the box...As of now I don't have any third party video player installed on my phone...
I am a big fan of CM, but refrain from installing it just because of this one reason!
Can someone please explain this to me...would be great !!
And please correct me if i am wrong...
Thanks.
Touchwiz is a hugely bloated layer on top of Android, everything works so even beginners have a good experience. AOSP starts with just Android, then you add the parts you want -if you want video then add it. AOSP on a Samsung device isn't ideal for new users

Thanks for the answer but that's exactly what i want to know...
How can i enable support for all types of video files without installing numerous video players?
Are there any codecs which when installed on AOSP will do the magic??
Thanks
Some codecs aren't included in AOSP as they are not free. Same reason AOSP does not include gapps.
