Hey guys,
Since it came out, I've been wanting to give CM10 (or any JB rom) a try, but the fact that this vibrant is my only phone is keeping me from doing it. So now, after a few months of development, my question is: Would you say the latest CM10 is at least as stable as CM9? I've been running CM9 as my daily driver for the past several months and have had no problem big enough to make me go back to froyo. I understand neither of these is considered "stable" yet, but if it does at least as well as CM9 (which is pretty stable other than GPS) then I want to give it a try.
I would appreciate it if you could also take the time to point out any potential deal-breakers on CM10, or any specifics that I (average guy who follows step by step instructions) should be aware of before flashing it.
Thank you.
Other than the obvious GPS and possible 911 issues, all the vibrant JB Roms are solid IMO.I tried cm10 preview, before the official+nightlies were released. It was decent then so I'm sure its even better now. I used HB for awhile with no issues. Now I'm on on Paranoid Android, this ROM is gangbusters sick. Very fast and has awesome features. Slimbean has had a lot of great reviews but I haven't tried it.
I don't think you'll will be disappointed with any of them.
Paranoid, sitting in a deep sweat...
I agree. I was on a few of the Helly Bean builds, and was quite happy with them. On a tip I decided to try Paranoid Android, and it's fantastic.
I suggest you do some reading up on each of the options available for our Vibrant. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how well your Vibrant runs with JB.
Thanks guys. Do you know of any specifics I should watch out for when flashing (other than the potential EU bug)?

There haven't been any reports of EU bug with JB, its only an ICS thing.

You might want to check out the euroskang version of CM10 and AOKP.

Ive tried CM10,paranoid and now im on slimbean. I like slimbean the best. Its really all having to do with personal preferences. All 3 are great ROM's for the Vibrant.
*UPDATE*
Just wanted to share my experience on JB roms after having flashed CM10 a couple days ago. To answer my original question, it is just as stable (probably more so) as CM9 and other ICS roms. Literally everything works perfectly (again, from my experience) except for GPS, and even that has been reported to be better than on CM9 roms. Google now, expanding notifications, project-b and everything else works just as snappy as you would expect.
btw, I assume all other JB roms are this stable, not only CM10 (personal preference).
You might want to try the GPS hardware fix to get it working, I'm getting GPS signal fine with JB. Although ICS do get faster locking.

I meant to post this to the Q&A's section, I mistakenly posted to general. My apologies. Can this be moved to Q&A's?
So currently I'm running Bionix-V Fishmans froyo for the Vibrant, and I like it pretty well. Battery life seems to be alright.
Before that I was running Asgard 3.2, and it was pretty good except the battery would drain pretty quick, and the Phone would FC constantly.. forum is dead though and no support.
Was reading up on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021383
((Rom)Simply Honey 5.1 Revolution(JVR GB 2.3.4) JW1 HoneyCream in 3rd post. 12/30) and that sounds like it would be a pretty nice rom to try out, but all the links are dead. Does anyone have a current link or be willing to upload the latest version of that rom and the addons?
Or could someone possibly point me to a good Gingerbread rom for vibrant that is stable, I've been looking around for a couple of days and it seems maybe there is no more interest in Gingerbread for Vibrant.. maybe it's dead.
I've contemplated trying out some ICS builds, but it seems like there could be a lot of headaches, and the encryption unsuccessful bug, and other bugs that could make it more of a bad idea to try.
So, if anyone wants to help me, that would be fantastic!
I skipped over Gingerbread and went straight to ICS (before falling back to Froyo), so I can't really attest to any of these personally but people rave about MIUI: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123922
You could also try Phiremod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592509
or maybe Malice, but it's wasn't updated to 2.3.7: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/21759-rommalice-5gb-234deficient-development/
I think with ICS out and getting more and more stable you might have some trouble finding people keeping GB ROMs going. ICS builds are really is close to a point of being a daily driver (I'm a big fan of Slim and ICZen) if you're ok with the GPS being flakey. I wasn't so I'm back on Froyo for a little while, but those GB ROMs I listed claim to have a functioning GPS so give them a whirl.
I still hear horror stories about the "Encryption Unsuccessful " super hard bricking. When a JTAG cant bring it back to life you know its as bad as it could get.
ICS is smooth but until that issue is resolved completely I'm staying on Froyo or GB.
--Also GPS can work on GB ROMs but you are forced to use only the Bullet kernel.

Interesting. I kinda missed a lot of the quirks in getting Gingerbread just right, so that's a good tidbit about the Bullet kernel. Thanks for the heads up.
GPS working isn't really a big issue for me, but finding fairly stable roms (GB) with working links is a chore. I could have lived with Asgard, but the FC issues were a big negative. Also, when I would go to an area of poor-to-no coverage, I would have to restart the phone a couple of times because I would get a please insert SIM message.

Prime is very stable, and probably my favorite Rom hands down.

GPS doesn't work for you period on any Gingerbread ROM but with the Bullet kernel?
Hi All
I have been happily running CM7 on my Atrix for quite a while now. Because it has not had any issues (apart from the odd random reboot), I haven't kept up with new developments.
However, I recently bought a tablet and am running CM9 on it. I quite like it. But looking around the Atrix Dev forum, there is a bewildering array of CM9/10 ROMs and others, and I have no idea where to start. I don't have the time to go through them all.
So, I was wondering:
Does anyone have any recommendations as to a stable, everyday use CM9/10 ROM I could try out?
I have seen dual-boot ROMs in there. Are there any which include a stock-based/unrooted ROM?
In general, what are people's impressions of CM9/10 and Android 4+ on a phone?
Thanks so much for your help. I feel like such a n00b having to ask... That's what you get when you have a few months away.
BTW, the reason I would like to have an unrooted ROM in a dual boot environment is for a few apps which do not work with root, mainly Barclays banking app but a few others too. I don't mind having to reboot to get at them.

I would recommend you to try the "somebody's cm10 with those libs", it's JB with HWA, battery isn't that great but if you want to have a JB with HWA that's the option.
All the others cm10/cm9 will have the normal probles: cam corder not working, etc. There are some greats, epinter's cm10 is actually great.
You won't find any stable cm10/cm9 yet because there is no official kernel for them.
There's a reason why GB is still the most widely used version on this device. Although there are many ICS/JB builds available, there aren't actually any as of yet that will have everything working and still be as stable as CM7/GB.
OK, thanks.
Having a look at the threads joelorona pointed out, I think I will stick with CM7 for now. It's been fairly stable for months now and I'm getting a bit spoiled (I haven't had a phone as stable as this since I discovered custom ROMs for android phones)
Rom TopSmarts 1.3 is a good long lasting cm7
Well my problem is that I haven't had any problems, lol. Let me make that a little more clear, I've been running my MoPho on Jokers CM9 7.0.0 for MONTHS since the day it came out. And it was so stable I never bothered looking to update any more after that. Truth is before Jokers CM9 I hadn't flashed any ROMs on this phone before, I went straight from stock to I think version 3.8 or so. And I've been a loyal Joker fan ever since. But after I quit updating I lost track of what issues have been fixed, and what issues have arisen. So I'm really at a lost for what to do, I don't know what has been happening on the scene, and unfortunatley, I'm in need of update because I have started getting bigger and bigger issues with this release. Crazy stuff really, I don't think anyone else are having these issues, and I'm sure it's because I've stayed on this release for so long, in fact I've been on this same install since June I believe.
Anywho, I'm trying to figure out what I should do from here. I really need the update because my phone is starting to become a little unusable. And I'm starting to have to do workarounds for workarounds. So is CM10 the way to go? Or is there any other ROMs worth looking into, and if I do go with CM10, what would be the best update process to go from 7.0.0 to latest without doing a fresh install if possible. If not what Jelly Bean ROM is the most stable right now? Also, is there any GB ROM that is up to par with JB?
TL;DR stuck on bugged legacy ROM, need to find the latest and greatest with the least amount of issues.
Also! If any devs happen to pop over this thread (if I were lucky enough), and they want some reports of what issues I'm running into with my install I'd be more than willing to tell you about them, screenshots, reproducing them, etc. They're really interesting to say the least. I've got one that causes thumbnails in my gallery to be replaced by images I've never even taken or seen anywhere else. And they also tend to be pretty risque!
This CM10 rom by Th3Bill is my daily driver for about a month now. To install this rom you'll have to do a fresh install, you can't upgrade it over CM9. There are some minor issues, as is the case with every aftermarket rom.
Do it. Th3Bill's CM10 is as good as any right now. CM9 for the Photon didn't have a chance to fully mature before CM10 came along.

I'm on my phone right now, so searching isn't really pheasible for me. Would you mind telling me what the major issues are? I'm assuming all the.old driver issues still exist.
Cm10 's issues include but are not limited to : video cam borked (use video cam illusion)
Usb tether borked
And possible slight lag on screen transitions.
However my new latest and greatest daily driver is Th3Bill's Liquid Smooth.
With the same issues as cm10.
Go to Th3Bill.com and check out all his great work!
Don't forget to thank all who help!

I have tried all JB roms for the AT&T Samsung Note 1. Now I am currently running Collective. I have over the past 5 months read through all their Forums and troubleshooting and have followed all instructions to the T. I wont be bashed or called a noob because all phones are not alike and some users don't have certain issues from what I read. BUT others have most definitely had my issues lol. I get random reboots, also seems like phone does not update properly like updates for apps through play store. I reboot my phone and all of a sudden i get new emails and there's 5 updates where my phone while on told me nothing about them. The reboots are the bigger issue. Is there no Stable JB rom out there? I keep being told go back to ICS, which I am believing that after JB being out for so long nobody is able to make the roms stable. Never seen such a long period of no stable rom coming out for a phone. Appreciate any advice ty
Hmm, there is two that I know of now. Cyanogen mod 10, and paranoid android which has cm10 as a base

My first experience with CM10 was that it was not stable, especially coming from CM9 which was rock solid but the last week or so of builds have performed very well for me. Within the last week my phone has rebooted 2x's on me. Both were just as I hung up a call the screen froze then the phone rebooted. Otherwise, I have not had any issues. My previous ROM was JellyBeer which as not quite as stable but still pretty good. I did clean wipes, loaded CM10 (latest) then JB GAPPS 20121011. After rebooting the phone I run "fix permissions" from CWM. I go to the play store and download my apps from there and not from a back up. Hope this helps, good luck.

You must be ON CRACK? The PAC MAN rom is the most stable rom i have ever ran.... and i've tried them all. NO random reboots and no issues. give it a shot man
Isn't the cm10 Jellybean kernel for the note just a modified ICS Kernel with bits and pieces from other kernels put in one package in order to run Jellybean. There's the stability issue. There's no source for the GN Jb kernel yet so they'll be issues. In my experience reboots and lost data connection. That's why I went back to ICS. Everything works. But I would like to check out Paranoid Android 3.0 ,4.2 aospa builds coming out soon. Don't know if there using a cm kernel or in-house built.
Novena injected I717 Samsung Galaxy Note
Nov 8 PA and linero (pacman) kernel and only get a reboot one every 5-7 days . Were on all others was like 3-4 a day . Also I have found (I could be crazy) but when a reboot yellow screen of death occurs power off the phone then restart seems to stop the reboots for much longer ,not that I need to do it anymore.

DING DING DING!!!
No source, mo' problems!
We need source to drop for JB, especially the kernel source...
Until then, we can get "good" builds, but not "Great" builds...
Source is the key, and according to Samsung, the note will get the official upgrade in december...I dont know more than that.....g
so was there ever a great 4.04 aosp or aokp rom for the i717??
by great i mean everything working.. hdmi, usb otg, etc...
on the s2 it seemed that as soon as the source dropped everyone went to jellybean..
so there never was a near flawless build.. and there never were sources for the hdmi and some other drivers..
i dont see it being different on any samsung product..
See this is why I made this thread. Simply put I spend countless hours searching threads and topics and I jsut got 90% of my answers there. I have used cm Roms in the past and I liked them. I am not a expert at rooting but one gets there over time. I really do not think any question is a stupid one but where it posted can be wrong place to post. I do very much appreciate everything everyone has posted. If you have any other imput or great ideas please post. Again ty very much:good:
THE most important thing to remember is that no 2 phones will act the same on every ROM, so, anytime someone says a certain rom is great, or another one sucks, you can only take that with a grain of sand....the ONLY way to know how any rom will run for you is to install it on YOUR phone.
As others have said, until there is source from Samsung, NO JB rom will run perfectly 100% of the time for everyone, so, if you don't want to deal with the possibility of reboots or other weird issues, you are probably best sticking with an ICS rom...
Actually, I have found the JB's to be more stable than the ICS Roms. I have found AOKP Milestone 1 the most stable. No reboots and offers tabletUI if you want it.
Right now, I am running Dman's PACman and find it to be very smooth and stable.

I have been using AOKP Milestone 1 and haven't had many issues. There are a few bugs but nothing show stopping. I run mine at 240DPI and it looks beautiful and have only had 1 reboot. I would give it a try.
On crack lol appropriate but ok. I tried pacman at one point I loved all roms but no phones are equal ever jb rom at some point gave me reboots. Sporting padawan at the moment loving it

My friend's got SGS2 and he's low on money to buy a new phone at the time.
I myself owned sgs2, but several years ago, i.e. not tracking sgs2 threads now.
He's on stock now, but it's barely working, memory is over9000 full, ram's eaten by everything that can eat it.
I know I could just clear the stock, but it's kinda boring, I saw there are already Lollipop ROMs for sgs2 that seems to be working just fine (like Resurrection), but I'd like someone else's opinion.
Question is to those who still own and use sgs2 as a daily driver, what ROM should I install for him?
He's retarded in terms of everything related to technology, so he needs something that would work rock steady and stable, without bugs and errors, i.e. no beta\alpha builds.
I need to flash him some stable ROM, configure it and forget about it.
Advice needed, will be much appreciated, very thanks, wow!

OK, there are heaps of options out there.....
If he uses a lot of apps I would steer clear of lollipop roms for now as the os uses a lot of memory at present and they haven't quite got to the "rock steady, no bugs" stage just yet. You could try a minimalist rom like neatrom or slimsaber on kitkat, they are very good for performance and battery life. Ressurection remix 5.1.5 kitkat is also very good, a slightly older version of kitkat but based on cyanogenmod, so has themes and other stuff. Even older jellybean roms such as cm10 or vanilla rootbox are also highly recommended.
I'm currently using slimsaber by @fusionjack with dorimanx 10.44v008 kernel by @cybernetus as my daily driver at the moment and it would definately tick all your boxes
