Hi, my father have Neo V with adroid 2.3 and he can't install offiacial update branded by his provider. So is there way to install offical ICS update without rooting phone? (downlad update and put it into sues or something...)
Thanks.
Why can he not update via seus or PCCompanion? What does the error say when he tries that.

Then root is needed, download flashtool, root, flash stock ICS .ftf file and your done.
Find flashtool link in the stickies I the dev section.

@gregbradley: erm, why he need root?
@Corn Flake: make sure you store your original CDF customization number, just in case: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604559
You don't need root.
Just download flashtool, and the corresponding .ftf firmware file for your device.
Then flash it to your device using Flashtool.

Backup your father phone and use SEUS to upgrade to ICS. (all data will lost)
Sony PC Companion sometime can't download the rom.
OTA update can't upgrade 2.3 -> 4.0

Yes, there is a thread somewhere with a detailed guide on how to use flashtool. Just search for "flashtool guide".
You can also use Pcc or SEUS if you want, and that's fine, but I suggest you learn how to use flashtool just in case something nasty happens in the future. Flashtool isn't really that complicated.

yeah thanks just need to register... (not pay) i use your 2.3.4 actually.. it give me ability to upgrade in .62 without loosing root... and now "bonus" PCC ask me to upgrade ICS centraleurope version... just all i need with a downgrade :d
Hi,
I have a xperia neo....with rooted stock firmware .62 and unlocked bootloader (testpoint method)...I have taken a nandroid backup of it
I just wanted to try out ics...so planning to update using PCcompanion
Before updating...i just want to know
1. whether it's possible to downgrade to gb through cwm nandroid restore? Do I need to flash the kernel for .62 after the nandroid restore ?
2. will root access be restored after the downgrade? Since .62 is cannot be rooted, I'll have to flash .42 to get root access
I don't want to start restoring all the installed apps...hence thinking of using nandroid backup against flashtool
heres a video on how to :
SIMPLEST WAY TO DOWNGRADE TO 2.3.4 factory firmware
...Hi, hope i can help you after i spent myself days looking to root or flash my device, with no luck. There is just 3 simple steps to follow and you are done. Trust me its working fine:
1. Go To: (http thing) i cant link as new user...//androidadvices.com/downgrade-sony-xperia-arc-official-gingerbread-23-firmware/2/ and download 2 files (flashtool and Xperia Arc S firmware package... works for xperia arc, arc s, pro, etc). This is the Gingerbread 2.3.4
2. Unzip, install and start (as admin) Flashtool, then COPY XPERIA ARC S FIRMWARE PACK (is a .ftf file) INTO Installed Flashtool, FIRMWARE Folder (PASTE inside), START FLASH, choose FLASHMODE, follow on screen steps.
P.S. When restart your phone in FLASHMODE: With the phone turned off, press and HOLD BACK button, while connect USB, next seconds, you'll get the GREEN Light(phone) and flashing begins.
3. ENJOY your new installed GINGERBREAD 2.3.4 Firmware
P.S. ...NO ROOT REQUIRED... ...and yes, i know there are more than 3 steps... so? still works great. GOOD LUCK
I have a problem here. I was using nightelf oc kernel with JJ hybrid rom before. Then i decided to switch to KA21.1 latest.
Earlier i had tried to install KA18 and KA19 on my device but dont know why i faced some bugs so i quit it.
To install KA21.1 I first decided to install Official ICS 4.0.4. as a necessity to install KA21.1 device must have any 4.0.4 rom.
I flashed 4.0.4 using flashtool.
then I tried to install superuser. but got errors. I googled the issue and found the solution to install SU and CWM in latest 4.0.4 here .
after that i tried to flash KA21.1 in recovery mod. It was successfully installed and asked to reboot. After reboot device stucked at the Sony logo.
I re-tried the whole procedure from the beginning hoping I must have done some mistake. But the result was as it was.
Then I tried to repair my phone and update it through PCC. But at the end of its second step (2. Prepare), I got en error " Installation error - Unable to install or start phone software update components."
I again googled the problem and saw that SUS was helpful for some people who faced same problem. Then I tried SUS too. But It was also waste. SUS crashes after asking me to select my device.
Please Help. I just wanted to go for an light and fast rom.
Any suggestions/help is welcome. i wanted my phone working again.

Not really. Only problem he would have is that pcc/seus would refuse to update his phone, with excuse of modified software.
Unfortunately he didn't even came to that step, as pcc had problems with updating components. Common problem with pcc, will be solved in a few days, or even on the same day.

1) depends how you unlocked your BL.
If official, then it won't work, if unofficial, then it will work but..
2) reinstall of pcc won't help because its not problem in your installation, but in connection to Sony's servers. But no harm in trying
But you do need to reinstall seus as you said it crashed even when selecting device (you mean from phone list?).

Guys, I want some help.

I tried to Root via Flashtool, via Byn4ry root files and nothing worked.
Can anyone provide me a link where I can root my sweat Phone?
Thanks in advance
To root that firmware you need to first flash B.10 kernel then Root and then again .54 kernel
Flash only Kernel of 6.1.1.B.1.10
Root with Bin4ry V13 (New version doesn't work)

Whenever you manually flash a stock firmware either 2.3 or 4 u have to root it again. Don't flash the whole rom, just flash the b.10 kernel, root using bin4ry, and again flash just .54 kernel.

Ok......all done!
In case anybody else is having the same problem this is what i did.
I used bin4ry on my up to date unrooted xperia U. Android version 4.0.4 build 6.1.1.B.1.10.
I was getting errors saying "adb server out of date" but i left it to go to the end anyway.
restarted my phone but when it came to enter my password for my sim card the screen was faded. so i re-flashed the up to date android version again making my phone unrooted again!
then tried bin4ry again and this time it worked without any adb errors and restarted the phone to find that i have superuser app and all is good.
Thanks for previous posts offering help..

Good. You should always check the drivers if they are installed correctly or not.
-Connect your device to PC
-Open Flashtool.

Right you think its useless? Or that you cant flash a custom rom with flashtool?
Sent from my LT22i using xda app-developers app
It's not useless at all, but it's useless here. For a custom Rom you need to unlock boot loader which will definitely void warranty. Be safe man.

download an official jb firmware for your phone! download flashtool! enable usb debugging and connect your phone to the pc! Then choose the file you have downloaded and flash it!
You can also use SUS (Sony Update Service)......BTW did you use pcc to install it or downloaded it OTA.....

Try SUS/PCC like a lot here are saying. Hope your Internet connection is enough. God knows I tried via official methods but ended up downloading a generic ftf and flashing it.

Slight correction needed IMO: You need to unlock your BL only when your CUSTOM ROM needs a CUSTOM KERNEL.
He can try to repair phone with pcc or he can unlock bootloader and install STOCK or Custom Rom, who says that flashtool is only for custom roms , With unlocked boot loader he will void warranty.. yes.. a part that... he can lock the bootloader again..and I have not seen written anywhere in his topic question that he does not want to lose warranty... so mine it was just a suggestion... not an Obligation
Take care friend

anyways. My xperia P hasn't got any official update. and i am also waitng for official update rather than a manual update, I know the flashtool method is not a risky one but still you may get some problems in using jellybean. Becase the generic version and your S.I version would not be the same. my S.I = 1261-4989 ,
I have heard many bugs in jellybean, Album issue, white screen in contact and messaging, blutooth broblem, fast drain battery prob, slow charging, lagging, etc i wants to know, are these bugs are real or just a wrong imagination. Thanks
I havent seen any bugs so far for JB on xGO. And it performs quite nicely without having to edit build.prop or run init.d scripts. I'm using CE ftf.
