I have been stymied by the media scanner not finding photos and music in jb roms. Finally found a probable cause - not a solution. Putting a .nomedia file in the camera folder and a reboot lets me see all photos - other camera apps, etc.. except what is in the camera folder of course. It also populates the song list in the music player. Seems that something in the camera folder crashes/freezes the scanner? Not sure what to do with this, but there you go. Most of you probably know this already, but I have been stuck for a few weeks - just moving to jb from a few ics ventures, gb was smooth - and so didn't know what was up. I found this outside of xda, and with so many posts about the issue, thought it might help someone in some way. Yes this is my first post, though I have been here for close to a year on my galaxy s2. I am using slimbean right now and enjoying it. I can't post in that forum yet, so maybe someone there will see this.

It is probably because you have too many items in the camera folder

Could be. There are photos in the folder.

Now, after clearing DRM, media storage, and gallery data, rebooting to a full scan, I can remove the .nomedia file from camera folder, and the photos are all there. Quickpic can see them all at least, gallery sees 1851 of 1907. Yes a lot of pics, apparently some are corrupted? Gallery is misdating some of them from Oct. to Nov.
A workaround at least. The market rescanners did not work for me.

hi there.
the devs' of one game (EA's monopoly) were so brilliant to forget to hide their game's pictures and other media from android gallery.
I have added the file .nomedia in all folders that contain the game media, cleared gallery data and rebooted, but the pictures still show up in gallery.
what am i doing wrong?
Would've thought the file would do the trick. Strongly suggest QuickPic. MUCH faster, lighter and has more options. The gallery is a cpu hog.

yeah that's what i thought.
used quickpic on my other phone, liked it. generally want to go stock as much as possible though... weird that it doesnt work the way it should
so there is no known solution for the monopoly issue? its too bad, i really like the game but its messing up my gallery so much

Unfortunately I couldn't find any
I put .nomedia file in every possible sub-folder and rebooted, but the media still showed up. Kind of weird, because ".nomedia" should and has worked in the past... so kind of a combination of EA making this blunder in their game design, and something wacky about the GT ROM not properly rescanning media files...
I ended up deleting the files and uninstalling the game, periodically checking the market whether EA has updated the game... I also sent them a bug report to their support Email in their website (although for support they do not have Android as a platform listed... go figure...) -haven't received an answer yet
^ certainly understand your thoughts... just curious though... the stock gallery is a cpu hog. why not just freeze it and use quickpic? You know from using it you could easily hide/exclude the galleries you did not want scanned/shown and the Tab has proven to run much better for me without the stock Gallery.
I know you mentioned staying stock as much as possible.... just felt I'd beat the drum a little more for those who read this later.

no prob.
i used quickpic on my old Galaxy Tab (and my wife still does).
Gallery in Honeycomb just has a pretty good integration with Google+ and Picasa.
quickpic is a good app, can recommend it definitely.
right now i however just wish that EA would take android programming more serious... it tells me a lot that their user support pages don't even list Android as a platform... they haven't really arrived here yet...
I also have this problem, tried everything and my gallery is still full of monopoly trash . Sad cause I liked the game.
Have you cleared app data for media storage in settings/apps?
not entirely related to your issue, but an interesting side note.... When i plug in my nikon sd card via the usb adapter gallery refuses to show the contents, but quickpic works fine
Never had this with my other droid devices, so defo something odd on the tab re gallery/media scan

if it doesnt work reflash your old firmware then flash again the .50
Try clearing data and cache under settings>all apps and find album, photos and videos and possibly Walkman as well.
Dude, just use the Quickpic app for photos. It is infinitely better than any stock photo app. Much, much faster and better organized.
I have a Galaxy S II, running CM10 Nightly 19Sep Stock kernel, only thing changed is the ROM which I've been flashing for over a year without issue.
Noticed on Monday 22Oct that the phone was starting to lag at certain things and behave screwy, so downloaded latest nightly and did a complete backup. Did not flash.
Had a look in the gallery yesterday, and to my horror the earliest photo in there is from 21Oct, over 600 photos gone. Gallery used to show thumbs from all of the ebooks I have in there, those are gone as well and the photos from the individual ebook folders for covers are gone one by one.
Swiftkey deselected itself as an input option with no input from me. Swype is just gone.
External SD which I barely use will show as unmounted when connected via USB.
Going to go through forum tutorials to try and get those pictures back, but should I be worried about something else? Hardware? What could possibly be causing this?
Well at the very least this product deserves a thumbs up. It works.

Going to get most of the media back.
It's suggest a restocking.
You can take your sd out and check if not corrupted our something.
Hope you can still get your files.
You will get more support form the forum if you post in the one specific for your device

My phone loses its music details such as album art and artist. I experienced this first when i was on GDX 29, so i moved to Zencefil 10 but the problem still exists. So I moved to GDX30 and still the problem exists. So, at GDX30, i tried to full wipe and it was fixed, but not for long. The problem came back after 1 week.
Is this problem caused by my SDcard or anything else? please help
BTW, at GDX29 after losing my music details, it came back after about 2 weeks, but, not for long, gone again. This problem is really weird.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
Use album art grabber app from the store..
And after you downloaded the music details be sure to rescan media from that app.
And yes pleasure be sure to post in correct section from next time

Is anyone getting endless force closes after installing the new Google Play Music? I've tried using two different Touchwiz Roms and even CM 10.1 and all of them seem to have issues running the app. Thoughts?
+1 on that issue. I just uninstalled play music for the time being. It was ridiculous the number of times it fc'd on me

Yea it does it on every device I own x.x

so it sounds like its an error with the app? I guess it makes sense because it's such a new service but it's also weird that some people are having no issues at all.
also having force closes
On my note running jedi rom, nexus 4 and my tablet. The radio feature works fine on PC but it won't start on the 4 or my tab. The music app itself closes constantly on my note though. I uninstalled the app and reloaded a previous version so I can atleast still listen to my purchased tunes.

I had the same force close problem on my GS3 only fix I found was to unroot. Once I unrooted it worked fine.

It's a very strange problem that alot of folks are having, I did take the update and I've had zero problems although they did change alot in this update. Im running clean rom 4.5 with perseus kernel, no overclock or undervolt, idk if it matters what your running it should be stable either way I use it all the time but still getting used to the new look. .

Looks like the update doesn't like too many songs. Deleted a few hundred and it works.

I have over 1000. It worked with 400-something.
I have just over 7000 songs. I am on an S3 on T-Mobile. I tried the new Google play music on several roms, included stock rooted and the app was unusable because of the force closes. I reverted back to the old version of Google play music, unrooted, let my music sync, then upgraded to the new version through the play store, and it has been working for 3-4 days without any problems. I rerooted the phone to test and sure enough the force closes came back. I repeated the process stated above and it works perfect again. I am convinced "root" was causing the force closes... At least in my case. Hope this helps.

I was having the same problem and I just found a way to make it work for me.
1. Turn off phone.
2. Eject SD card
3. Reboot
4. Open Play Music and go through the setup making sure that it doesn't crash
5. Turn phone back off and insert SD card
6. Reboot
For me after those steps it is still working.
Edit: Until I put my music back on my sd card.

I thought the SD Card was the issue too. I've got a little over 3000 songs and I thought it was the loading process causing the FC's so I had done what you post above on 3 separate roms and all have FC'd. It has even FC'd before even launching the application. I have decided to just wait it out and hope that Google solves this issue soon. I have faith in them to get things fixed pretty soon like they usually do. Thanks for the tips though!

I forgot that I had taken all my music off of my SD card before I did those steps. Once I added it back to my card it started happening again after I refreshed. But it didn't start until near the end of the refresh. It looks like there are certain tracks that it doesn't like, or after a certain amount of music on your sd card it stops working.
+1 on this issue, hope they fix it soon, having to use the touchwiz music player and it sucks.
non-rooted, galaxy s II with 4.1.2, about 3000 songs and 64 gb sd card.

This time I'm pretty sure I have the fix. It is definitely working for me. There's a problem with the album art in the mp3's ID3 tags. I'm pretty sure it's only the art from a few of them but good luck finding which ones. If you delete all the album art from all mp3's you should be able to run the app without problems. You'll have to delete all the music from your phone and re copy it. You might have to delete everything you've uploaded to Google then re upload that too, but I'm not sure about the last part. Hope this helps.

I was thinking the same problem being with album art but I can install Google Music without ANYTHING on my SD card and external SD card and it will still crash. It's very odd so I guess I'm just going to wait until Google pushes next update that will hopefully fix it. I've seen quite a good amount of people complaining so I'm sure Google will look into it.

I saw some people say yesterdays update fixed the problem but I'm not sure since I already wiped album art. If you have uploaded music to Google with album art it doesn't like that could still be causing the problem.

Wow. I have not even tried updating for the past few days. I just updated, streamed a few songs, and smoothly went through my library without a single FC. Looks like they have updated and it is working just fine now for me! Thank you very much! haha
