Does this have working portable hotspot and tethering? and does the phone read the sd card correctly for music and gallery?
everything is working for me except the video recorder and some video play back is choppy. i was surprised by how good its working for me. Battery life seems to be good to.

Ignorance is bliss .
ICS Android 4 has not been released by Samsung .
XDA have a leaked ICS v KP8 Beat test rom not everything works that's why its not released .
You can install or one of the custom roms built around this . But its not for noobs and will of course void your warranty .
jje
I installed it 1 time and i was not happy whit it so i got back to official stuff xD
I found the latest CM9 build from Codeworkx to be stable enough as a daily use ROM. But I prefer TouchWiz to vanilla, so I switched back. It was very smooth though.
Bwahahaaaahahahahahaha Gold.

Why would you want to go with 4.0 when 5.0 leaked already?! Find it in all its glory here.
buddy do not listen to any of the above posts...here is a link to what you need. it is stable and smooth..trust me its my new daily driver. Click here buddy it is the latest build of ICS Link for latest ICS build
You are all gits. Give him a break, it's a reasonable question due to all the different versions flying round.
Try this thread.
Rather than being smartasses, why not give the guy an actual answer? If you think that said 'noobs' will be re educated by repeatedly posting that video, you're delusional. Either that or you genuinely think the same joke is funny after the 3rd time in a row, in which case, you're still delusional.
With this kind of attitude rife, nobody will learn to use the forum correctly or get the answers they want, creating yet more noobs.
To answer OPs question - no, there is no official ICS builds
from samsung yet. You're welcome to try a leaked build or Cyanogenmod 9, which I personally find stable enough for daily use. If you want real stability with every feature functional, however, you're going to have to wait to the official version from Samsung.
Next time, to avoid this immature nonsense, do a quick search and browse the development forum.

Some good points, however a bit of mickey taking should be expected
I am running the CM9 ICS ROM and it is very good even at this early stage. Bits like audio out through the Sammy car dock aren't working (as you'd expect) and the video issues are annoying but not show stoppers IMO so I'm using this as my daily driver for now and will see what the battery life is like.
The only real way is to do a backup and try it out for yourself.

I'll tell you why.
More and more people are coming to these forums, and disregard everything that's posted. They jump in, create a thread, ask the same questions, and expect us to do the work for them.
If this specific user took the 15 minutes to read, he would quickly understand that there are two versions of ICS for the GS2 - leaked builds from Samsung, and CM9. He would also quickly understand that none of these are "full working ROMs".
However, seeing as he couldn't bother himself for 15 minutes to at least try and figure things out on his own, I definitely can't be bothered to write a valid response and to encourage that kind of behavior.
The video basically says "search before you post". He should search before he posts. It isn't funny, it isn't a joke, its actually pretty sad the video had to be created in the first place. But it was created, and it does exist, and so I'll use it whenever its appropriate.
XDA is not anybody's personal tech support - this is not a 1-800 number to dial if you're having problems or questions regarding your device. It is, though, an enormous hub of information that is readily available to anyone who's willing to put in the tiny bit of effort required to properly use it.
Soulicro well said put it in a nutshell .
Let Rolling star answer this same question 400 times in a month dont mind ten times a day .

I thanked your post, not because it was in any way useful but absolutely hilarious!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that will most likely never happen. I'll trade my wife's iPhone 4 for your Note though, I'll even throw in a dead iPad!
Well, truth be told, there is not a solution yet.
BUT, if you wait a bit, a rom called MIUI will likely be developed.
Let me explain...
Cyanogen is a team that develops 'clean' Android roms for many devices. This means, no bloat and has ALL of the features that Android has to offer, enabled (with exception to features that would not be applicable because the phone simply does not have the hardware - for example, if your phone does not have NFC, Cyanogen wont support it for your device and they simply remove all of the code related to this). The result is, the most feature rich version of Android (and most up to date as they do keep up with Google's releases) with the least amount of crap. This keeps the phone lean and clean.
Now, since Cyanogen is open source, they make the source code available for other rom developers to modify what they have done to create different experiences. This allows developers to start with a feature rich rom and develop on top of that to add their own 'flavor' to their work.
One such 'flavor' is MIUI which strives to make your Android device as Iphone like as possible. While it isnt perfectly matched to the Iphone, its moderately close.
Dont get me wrong, I for the life of me am baffled as to why someone would want their Android phone to look like an Iphone but that is what MIUI is there for.
(BTW, if I am wrong about MIUI, feel free to mention it, based on everything I have read about it however, the impression I got was to theme an Android OS to look like IOS).
However, we have a long way before this happens. Rom developers have barely figured out how to do anything with this phone.
To my knowledge, there is only 1 custom rom (Saurom) and it isnt really all that custom from what I can see. All it seems to have is enhancements from the stock rom (overclocking, cwm, att bloat removed?) but in essence is just a more efficient streamlined stock rom.
There is also only one custom kernel that I can see that again, is the same as the stock kernel but allows for overclocking (and I think I read that the davlik cache size was increased).
Once Samsung releases the source code for the Note, we will start seeing alot more rom development, at which time Cyanogen will jump on board and start making roms (using the source that Samsung releases for things like drivers) and once Cyanogen has a relatively stable rom, MIUI will likely take the Cyanogen source and tweak it.
Very convoluted I know but probably wont be seeing anything earth shattering until the source code is released from Samsung.

No, the flaming won't begin, the thread will end. Here.
I had started a thread I just got the official ICS Upgrade
In that thread some had indicated that a custom ROM should
be used and not the the official ICS Upgrade from AT&T.
In an effort to not get that thread of track i will ask here:
What is the real difference with the AT&T Official ICS ROM and the Custom ROMs?
I am fully aware AT&T has loaded a bunch of junk in,
and I went through and disables and deleted much of it.
But what truly is so awful about it?
And if it truly is so bad, what is the "Correct" ROM to use?
Thank you
No such thing as correct or incorrect, it is all personal taste. Some might like one ROM over another. Does that make it better than another? Nope.
Take cars for example. Some people like to leave it stock. Some might like to increase its performance and add engine modifications. Some might like it to handle the roads better so they might upgrade its suspension. Others might like to change its appearance and paint it and add body-kits. Is one car better than the other? Depends on who you ask.

This thread will get real out of hand.
But before it dissapears. the main reason most of us say its bad, is with the history of At&t's releases. They mess stuff up, have issues within the kernals, and a big BIG issue with them right now that w/o source, we dont know if its fixed.

not taste/opinion in the fact(from their history) that the coding is a mess. and broken everywhere.
You come to a developer forum to run fully stock?
That's what goes through my head when I see people afraid of flashing.
If you want the AT&T firmware at least wait for somebody to post a debloated version since your going to disable them anyways or actually learn how to do it yourself. Since you have access to the forum with so much information.
Maybe take it 1 step further and grab the AT&T firmware and customize it to your liking, you don't even have to post it just use it.
This isn't a great thread cause Versus threads go nowhere...

I can appreciate people wanting to customize their devices.
That being said customizing just for the sake of customizing is not really
of interest to me; Increased functionality or an issue being corrected is.
So the real question for me would be what real issues with the
Stock ROM get corrected? and what Real features get added.
Thank you

There are many different things. Mods add to the functionality of the phone. Take the 14 toggle mod for instance, no need to enter settings to change common things. Skip tracks with volume buttons. You can also increase battery life with various kernels by UV/uc. It allows you to make your phone function and do what you want it to. The stock firmware is too limiting in this ability

Of course there is an increase in functionality or else why would devs create custom ROMs. What each ROM has that differs from others are listed in their respective threads. Check it out and see if any interest you. If you are satisfied with stock, stay stock. Not a big deal.

Honestly, I used to hang around here for the community - but that's quickly turning me into a simple lurker.
I'm extremely interested in the developers work. However, I find that the stock factory firmwares are every bit as good or stable as anything that gets turned out in the dev areas. The stock ROMs also do everything I need and want. Plus, I don't like AOSP Android, and that seems to be what everybody is focusing on these days. Also, the 3rd party roms generally have too much changed, removed or added for my tastes.
Edit: Oh, and while I generally like the OEMs code, I have no problem using a good 3rd party kernel.
AT&T releases are typically buggy. The developers here either fix those bugs, or use firmware bases from the international version that are more robust and stable. It is too early to know what bugs this UCLE5 release may contain, but the original AT&T UCKH7 firmware had lockscreen security issues, the official AT&T update UCKK6 broken bluetooth hid and serious power management issues. The AT&T ICS leaks leading up to this version, UCLD3 and UCLD4 had a very serious flaw in the kernel which caused several people with the I777 to lose their device due to eMMC chip damage. Since the kernel source code for the current official AT&T UCLE5 has not been released yet, it is not possible to confirm that the kernel supplied with the UCLE5 release is free of this serious issue. Therefore, it would be advisable to either not run this firmware, or use a modified rooted version in which the kernel is replaced with a known safe kernel.

you definitely haven't been running an android device if you say this (marked in BOLD). Considering the fact that for our device in particular, they have released BS that is not only buggy as hell, but has bricked a ton of devices. I think you should probably do a little research before making such bold comments.
I got board enough to try the full LE5 including kernel. So far better than D4 and previous ics. Tegrak works as it does on the 9100 base kernels so that tells me i777 is catching up or has caught up. Could be just odex, but all benchmarks higher than on any of the aokp or 9100 sammy roms I've tried.
I'd like to see someone customize this if it remains stable. I've added 15 toggle from other roms, but I jusy like having firmware meant for device.

I've been running Android devices and flashing firmwares since 2009.
I also haven't seen any of the bugs or issues mentioned on this forum. Doesn't mean they don't exist. The stock 2.3 rom that came with my GS2 from AT&T was amazingly, impressively stable compared to what came with my Vibrant, or even ANY of the community roms for it.
UCLE5 bug:

Yes, many would not care. Many would. Ask AT&T or Samsung, and they will probably say it is a feature.
Hi Kazuni et al, are you developing a non-Samsung themed JB ROM for the I9305? Something like the many CM10/ParanoidAndroid ROMs that are available for the I9300? Would be great to have a "purer" ROM for this new flagship....less of the Samsung customization
This has been discussed several times before but the I9305/I9300 share most of the same components, less the radio correct? If so, would the I9300 ROMs work if they're used w/ a 9305 radio instead? So it would be an easier way to port 9300-developed ROMs over?
Would love to see this, esp if it's built on the new 4.1.2!
There are other differences as well like a different partition layout, but I guess that they might partially work if configured with a compatible layout, would likely have no sound or modem functionality without proper work, a Rom compiled for this model would be better.

Don't get me wrong, but didn't you notice the big ****storm about samsung being developer unfriendly and the exynos platform being the hell on earth?
Some of our guys are very sick of samsung and are not going to touch any of the new samsung devices.
Not saying that nobody will port it, but i recommend you to sell this device as fast as possible and get a new upcoming nexus device if you really wanna run AOSP based roms.
If you like laggy and buggy AOSP roms and especially waiting for round about 6 months to get a new android version, stay on what you're currently owning.

Don't get me wrong, but didn't you notice the big ****storm about samsung being developer unfriendly and the exynos platform being the hell on earth?

I didn't really expect you to add something positive to this topic.!. I really hope that all of us that just got the I9503 didn't buy it for only running AOSP based roms. If that was the case I would buy the upcoming LG nexus that's NOT the case for me. And SamsungExynos posted a tweet today "full availability of integrated source code for #Exynos 4 family of processors on OrigenBoard by the end of 2012"
I wonder what will happen to all these devs that left the GS3 because of samsung not releasing the Source. And then now it looks like they will b releasing something soon, Are you all going to come back? Or just let new and upcoming devs take over. I Feel that with all sources released on this device with the Quad Core and 2gb Ram DAMMMM how smoooth will a proper built CM10 run. And to be honest My device is very smooth as it is. I am not dying for CM10 i actually like the new touchwiz, I like features and animations. And with all of that , this is still hell smooth in my opinion. Either way To me its a win win, if they release the source GREAT if not oh well still very good!!... But i do believe they will release it.

It's a exynos development board and has not much to do with samsung smartphones.
The ICS code was broken, outdated and mostly unusable on phones.
The same code is now available again.
I really don't expect a wonder.
From what andreilux has seen and stated below it does not seem like the old stuff and samsung continue to update. Last update was done earlier today here is what andreilux said in the exynos petition page in the i9300:
(They released the 5250 development board and site together with a 800 page user's manual, something which we didn't have before for any SoC. I'll have to see what they uploaded on the Git as it's quite a lot.
Edit: from what I can see at first glance they have 4.1.1 Jellybean sources up there and apparently the newest stuff.

So it seems samsung is pulling up there sox and getting **** done. Maybe christmas came early i also have news from a great dev getting our devic. (I9305) but must not say who at this point

Omfg sorry for spam but the dev will build really ROMs?
Sorry Spaming here but a CM10 Rom for my I9305 would be realy Great.
+1 to non-Samsung-based JB rom like CM10, PA or PACman's mix of all three I'm picking up my i9305 this weekend (South Africa) and really hope that some of the big dev's take to this handset.. number of roms at current is dis-heartening :crying: :crying:

Hi codeworkx.. this is a copy of a post I made on another i9305 thread, it seems more relevant here tho..
Samsung have released the source code for the i9305.. here and I noticed it's also on Github here does this mean there's a chance of more dev's buying into this device for custom rom and kernel devving
defibitely deserves a plus one on this. cm10 porterssss please i would love to experience a proper stock jb theme

sorry if this is in the wrong place, but i have recently bought the A5 (a5009) and have searched high and low on xda, but cannot find any support for the phone on this forum. As it is related to the alpha line, i was wondering if this sub-forum will be the place for news or ROMs for the A3/A5/A7? or have i missed something?
i feel its a great phone, but touchwiz is so ugly compared to stock android (in my opinion), and this could sway me away from the phone if there is no support.
i have noticed that it can be rooted already, but i dont see much point unless there are custom roms available or am i missing the point?
many thanks
Dom

If you can, return your A5 and get the alpha! . It is the value for money phone of the new series... It has 3x faster cpu and many times faster GPU and better camera than A5. :good::good::good:
To be honest, i don't think that anybody with some hardware knowledge will buy A5 or A7 at least until the price drops to adequate levels.
I don't want to turn this into a comparison thread as I just wanted to know where on xda I can find out about the new A series, but the alpha here in the UK is more expensive.
With my job, having an expensive phone is not a good idea as it can get damaged easily, that's why I went with a mid - range phone this time. I still have time to think though, so I may change the phone yet.
Has the alpha got many roms available for it?

There is ongoing CM11 port and there are 2 custom roms based on stock ROM.
And i think, that there must be separate subforum for A series...
If you root your phone you can remove samsung crap and install launchers... and you'll get whatever software experience you want, you just need to spend some time with it.
P.S. look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660354&page=1712 it seems thet there are several requests for A5 forums... Just wait (and maybe add request) and there will be forums for your beautiful device to!
thanks for the help!

Exactly! I've searched everywhere and I couldn't find good resources for the A7 or for any of the A series. Like you did, I did find a how-to-root guide but I don't see much point either without custom roms. I was actually hoping for an AOSP rom too and this is usually where I find everything I need but there's no forum yet :/

In the post above mine there is a link for a thread that users can request devices to have thier own forum. I noticed quite a few people are now asking for the A series, so cast a vote and fingers crossed we get one
Has a thread opened up yet ? i did post a request for a thread , have found sources for KK kernel at samsung and have started building the cm12 basic's device tree. would like somewhere to document it.
darkspr1te
I haven't noticed one opening up so far. There is a lot of call for one in the thread I mentioned. I'm assuming the forum would be announced if one opens up?
No idea.
congrats on the cm progress. I would love to test out what you have and having a forum would make it easier

I bought it for that reason, i have the hardware knowledge and it's a qualcomm cpu, i've requested a forum for A3/A5/A7 devices, i've got kernel sources and msm8916 device tree for cm11/12,
now i just need the forum.
darkspr1te
@darkspr1te cool, do you have the sources uploaded? I would like to help out, I have the A500F.
Keep up the good work Darkspr1te. I am a bit of a noob on this and don't understand everything you say, but I'm looking forward to a mod for the A3.
Hopefully a forum will be opened soon.

Standard kernel sources can be found at samsung open source center. I have A500H/DS , sadly the sources i pulled wont even compile yet. Been busy on projects past week so i will only get into the sources again this wkend.
Still no feedback on a forum so i might hijack a thread here for now so I can at least start sharing.

Looking forward to a rom/mod for the A3!
love to see a galaxy A Custom Rom community.

you might want to start a thread on miscellaneous android dev.
Hello all, I have been following everything about the A3 recently since a cousin of mine just bought it; it´s so sad that there isnt a forum about this device. I would be happy to help on any new brews
It would be nice if they create a Galaxy A series forum. I have an A3, its a great small phone. I use it as my side phone(got a Note 4).
Recovery
Hey guys, I just found a Recovery, but it's Chinese. Working fine on A500M. Just flash with Odin. Now we can try to port Roms from other 410 SoC based devices!
ps: turn the phone on normally, and when the screen turn on, press volume down + power + home (yup, the same buttons of the download mode)
Srry by the bad english, I'm Brazilian
I was looking to get the A5 tomorrow...but the lack of a forum and ROMs is really making me hesitate.
