Can someone explain please :) - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

I was going through http://www.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=21034
and found that Sony has certified a new update for Xperia P a day ago. the thing is there are two previously certified updates that are not yet released, can someone please tell me how the update strategy works with Sony

Different update builds are for different regions. Sometimes they also need to re-certify something because they left in a bug or for whatever other reason. Not all updates that are certified are released ever, and getting a PTCRB certification is only one part of the release process.

Thanks, this gives me a clue on what is going on. When they certify any update with the code: 6.1.x.x.x.x it means it's an ICS update?! and once the code is changed to: 6.2.x.x.x.x it will mean it's a new version of Android?! And the letters in the code refers to different Xperia Devices

Ill believe it when I see an Acro S in the wild with Jelly Bean. Its hard for me to believe the Acro S would get it before the Xperia S does.

It can not be ICS, with that version number.
Going from 6.1.B.0.544 that was certified a month ago to 6.1.1.B.1.10 that was added a few days ago.
x.1.x.x.x is ICS (has been like this for all the ICS releases that Sony has released)
x.1.1.x.x.x needs to be jellybean (it is not stated as a major update, why they have most likely added an extra digit, for the subversion).
But even though it has been certified, is there no guarantee that it is getting released.
And remember that even though it has been tested by PTCRB, do they only test the radio. There is no guarantee that it is a completely working release (could for example miss the camera and other components that is not related to the radio).

The other NXT devices (P, U and Sola) will have it in more then a month from now, probably November, if I recall the people saying about it (K900 and someone else). S and Acro S will get it next month.

we will have to see what happens when Sony Mobile decides to release their first jellybean build. Anything that anyone says about this is so far just guesswork. It is at least the first time that I have seen them add an extra digit to their version number, so only Sony Mobile knows for sure what the idea is with this new version number.
Change the title the FW isn't available yet.

Do you mean that ICS will arrive for these phones shortly, as expected, but this new firmware, whether 4.0/4.1 will then be released in November?

A Sony member has posted (on twitter if I remember correctly) that there will first be released an ICS build, followed up by an update short time after.
My own guess will be that the ICS build, that will be released, will guess that it will be 6.1.B.0.552 or something similar, now when the radio of 6.1.B.0.544 has been certified for for example the Sola, a little more than a month ago: http://www.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=21035
and that then will surprise us with Jelly Bean a month or two later, with the version number 6.1.1.B.1.18 or something similar, now when the radio of 6.1.1.B.1.10 has been certified two days ago: http://www.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=21035
But again it is just a guess.
It is probably ICS with updated apps
If I have to guess I would say that it is a new ICS version to fix some bugs and to bring the new apps from Xperia T that Sony promised to release to all the 2012 lineup. I do believe that firmware version will change to 6.2.x.x.x when JB is released and in my opinion Xperia S and T will receive JB before P, U and Sola. But just guessing.
Then in regards to the certification, Sony only certified final version of a firmware as they don't need to certify Beta releases, so if it is certified it will be launch any time sooner or later unless a very nasty bug is found on the firmware before release.

for my old phone, Xperia neo, all the firmwares certified were released. Then depending on the model there are more firmwares as they need to certify carrier branded versions.

He installed versions of 26.1.A.2.145 storefront because 26.1.A.2.147 version does not yet exist.
Edit.
I wrote just for the Sony Xperia PL on Facebook and confirmed that it is 5.1.1 and that any day now begins to update.
I also read on a computer site that the M4 gets directly Android M and not 5.1.1.

Yeah I guess so too. because only the the firmware number is changing from .99 to .147 . Which I dont think its a big update.
Anyway, we can have 5.1.1 and 6.0 by compiling ourself...
They already posted on their blog that we will be getting 6.0

new firmware for padfone X/S 12.2.2.41 (android 5.1 ?)

you can check here, this is the latest firmware, on asus global server
from 15th december 2015.
you can install with new install with twrp or other...
I haven't updated that yet, but according from their own forums it is still 5.0.
It has better memory management ( I believe they updated the memory management tool from boost master to house keeper)
--- that used to be from the zenfone 2 series but now its on the padfone now. (Looks like a step closer to MM)
Gps is able to lock even quicker than before.
Sound quality is also better.
I will update it pretty soon, want to see some problems that arise from this update.
Can't wait for M on this device, but hopefully asus could continue support for this device for the next version of android as Im hoping to have vulcan support on this baby. (Its either that or Cm 14 when it comes out)
Edit:
Just updated this device, supersu was lost but reflashed supersu and works fine.
Performance seems pretty great (not noticing a difference), and memory management is just a bit better.

This is not an official statement from Sony but i kinda figured M4 aqua would not get Nougat. Worst phone ever. I am now running Nougat on my Moto G from 2013. But not this more expensive and newer Sony...on the other hand the Sony now has MM and it does not run very badly.

It's not a sh*tpost? Man, is not the official Sony page or a page like Android Authority, Android Police or a recognized Android news page, is another irrelevant news page of the Internet. Anyone can make an image where there is supposed dates of updates, like the last image of the supposed date of the release of Marshmallow and we have the update 2 or 3 months after of the "official release date"
we don't need official Nougat update
I hope we can get a method to root our Xperia M4 aqua without unlocking boot loader, most of our problems will disappear if that were to happen btw Sony is definitely going to issue the last update (performance only) to iron out most issues that have arisen due to the latest Marshmallow update... so cheer up
So now, XDA become a gossip forum... ?

Yes, starting with the 2018 models, or maybe only with the Z3 since it's the most expensive ones. Or do you really believe that our one year old phone will get updates that quick? They are not Pixels and knowing the update strategy of Lenovo for the past couple of years and without treble we can be lucky if we even get it this year. or have you forgotten the Oreo update? And it wasn't even to 8.1, just 8.0
I am still on 7.1.1 Nougut. According to support, I am on the latest update. But on 08/31 they claimed they are behind, but it is coming soon.
Shouldn't the all be the same regardless of software channel, build number, SKU, Version, etc.? They are all Moto Z2 Play. Mine is even unlocked so I would think that would be a benefit.
Here are the specs from the "about phone":
- Moto Z2 Play - UNLOCKED version (carrier independent)
- Software Channel = "retla"
- Build Number = NPSS26.118-19-1-16
- SKU = XT1710-06
- Version = PVT1
- Baseband version = M8953P_23.33.07.34.01RALBUS_LATAMDSDS_CUST
- Security patch = February 1, 2018
- Android 7.1.1. (Nougut)

Same here. I have no idea why my phone won't update. I have it unlocked and rooted with Magisk, but won't it still detect the update and try to download it? I just need to unroot first and flash it and it should be just fine I thought. But nope, still on 7.1.1 with the February 2018 security patch. I'm on software channel retus. Right now I'm not really too concerned with getting a new version of Android on this phone since everything is stable but I'd like to know why my phone never got the 8.0/8.1 update.

It depends on carrier. Although, if you ask them, carrier will say it depends on Moto; but truth is, it isn't. As far as I know, AT&T Latin America released (or it was Moto?) 8.0 Oreo in August, which has been already updated up to September, 2018. Next should be 9, but... Yes, 8.0 was released same time as 9 for Pixels, a full year after Z2 device landed. So, statistically, 9's OTA should be inside AT&T's Z2 devices, late in 2019. That would be another year, probably along with 10's appearance! but... Maybe not. Who knows what's in their heads. Point seems to be keeping OTA fans (don't count me in) eager as hell.

For this device to be updated to 64bit, it would require formatting, users would lose all their stored data. How well do you think that would go over with the general public?

That is a fair point. Although it's fairly easy to backup data on a phone with SD card, not everyone will like it. I had Asus zenfone 3 which came with 64bit OS despite 3GB of RAM and camera 2 API was enabled so the Gcam and hdr+ worked without root. Thought Z2 play with 4GB RAM, better camera sensor and stock Android will be even better. I was wrong.
