Hello
I have a Samsung galaxy s3 i9300. I love working with the phone except for the wifi signal and the celluar signal.
I have tried different modem and still no luck. I've read that for solving the wifi problem you have to install a different kernel? What is the best kernel for better wifi signal? If i am in the same room as the modem then i have all the bars full. But when i go to an other room i'm only keeping 1 or 2 bar signal. And for better signal with te celluar i always have to set networkmodus on gsm only otherwise i'm have no reception at all, maybe 1 bar. I use this phone for my job so its very important for me that the wifi and the celluar are working.
Original baseband version :i9300XXLH1 now im on i9300XXDLIB
original kernel 3.0.15-928452-user [email protected]#1 smp preempt TUE jul 31 19:37:49 kst 2012. Now im have this kernel installed :
3.0.31-siyah - 1.6rc3+ [email protected] # 136 smp preempt thu sep 27 00:46:10 pdt 2012
Original buildnr : imm76d.i9300xxblh1 now on jro03c.i9300xxdlib
Now im using criskelo teamrom jellyvean v14.0
Criskelo - syps - el liberator .
Realy hope that someone can solve my problems. Sorry for the bad english
I have the same problem. Hopefully someone can help us improve Wi-Fi reception.

And how does flashing another rom fix this? That's not a solution. We want better Wi-Fi reception and performance while using stock touchwiz also.

Thats a fact. I have supernexus installed but i'm missing a lot of options that we have on stock touchwiz. But my performance is much better end the celluar reception is also better now. The wifi is even worse now than before. I'm sure that the sgs3 is a very good device but it just needs the good setting.
is it possible for me to use the original stock rom and add the kernel that is used in the supernexus rom? And also the same question for the modem that is used.
MODEMS are for network signals like data, H+, 3G or whatevers
KERNELS are for wifi signals
that is, i am talking connection-wise

Dafuq you smoking??? Modems control all connectivity as long as the kernel supports it (modules loaded and ready to use). Wipe you modem partition and try to connect. It won't work.

Sorry..just tryna simplify things for the OP. What i was tryin to say was that wifi is somehow kernel related. Back when i had my s2, i couldnt connect via wifi and a user there suggested i should flash another kernel.. which did the job

First off phone is stock and un rooted.
My issue is that the phone will switch to 3g or E so much and then often not switch to H when I use an app requiring Internet so the app won't load anything. Anyone else have these issues or is there a fix? I'm in Australia btw.

If your phone is unrooted, there are limited things you can do to solve it. If it is rooted, you can actually try to flash different modems for your phone and see which one works best for you or just find out from this forum what modem is best for your carrier.

Sorry, I have looked around and you can actually flash modem through Odin if your phone is unrooted.
Oh really?? Thanks for letting me know, I haven't messed with flashing before so I doubt I will now haha i might wait for official updates...

Most official modems for my region are terrible, I'll bet your's aren't better. Asian modems have a far greater stability, especially the DXLF3 modem.
You can't do anything wrong when flashing a modem. Just get Odin, head to the modem collection thread, pick your modem and flash away.

Sounds like antenna ping-pong. Basically that means that your carrier keeps moving you from one antenna to the other.
Alternatively, check if you have any Proxy configured in the APN settings as slow proxies can cause the same issue: go to Settings->More->Mobile network->Access point names, choose the one reading 'internet' (or something like that)
Check if any Proxy server IP is filled in. If yes, write it down and delete it from the profile. If Internet doesn't work, reconfigure it.
If it's better, congrats
Oh really! I didn't realise the Asian modems would work well in Australia thought they would be specific to region, obviously not! I will try the flash if nothing else works..
I checked in the settings like u asked but there is nothing under proxy? Should here be an ip is that the possible problem?

there is still difference in term of speed between 3g and H. if you want consistent H+, change modem to BWLE5, if you not in LFB based rom.

with this modem, your phone will go straight from 3g to H+, it doesn't even know H anymore. lol. try it to feel the drain on your own.

Try it. If it doesn't work flash back the modem you had before.

OK guys does or has anyone gotten some luck running a i717m note on aws band with either wind or T-Mobile? I have tried different roms, radio and mods still no luck
If someone that has gotten it to run good please post what step you took and what from and radio plus any mod required that would be awesome.
I need a stable ics rom. I have a i717m which is from bell mobility
. Thanks in advance

The author is studachris. I copied this from a thread about T-mobile, just a little way down. There are several threads infact, so take a few minutes and find them. I know the xda search function sux but googling "using at&t galaxy note on t-mobile or wind" will get you all the advice and files.
Come back if you have any questions.
"Roms and modems are interchangeable, meaning you can use whichever modem you want, on whichever Rom you want.
The blaze modem is what you want to use for t-mobile
Also the apn settings for t-mobile would probably be beneficial"
I'm not blowing you off. Learn by doing.
Here is an example:

Capt is absolutely right. Been using the orig Blaze modem/radio on several ROMs (used mostly ICS CM ROMs). All have been stable with 3-9 mb d/l and crummy upload speeds as reported in the T-Mobile modem thread.
hey I have tried to look for it.
I've spent over 20 hours the other day/night flashing different roms and modems and searching though forums on here and google.
That is why im posting to ask if anyone has had any luck. it seem the modem I have flash really some only work with aokp rom but and the speed are good but i lost out on the s apps or I have only been able to get things working with the kid test modem it seem the blaze or blaze 4g lb7 doesnt like to work on wind while using uclf6 roms custom stock roms. but i will give that a try and see what in that link. I am just trying to get this thing up and running so I dont have to be carrying around 2 phones with me all day .
ps: I have over 7gb of rom data download that other night too its still sitting on the desktop so pretty much every ics rom and stock restore rom plus radio has been downloaded

Are you inputing APN settings? You can't get data without that.
Yes I have done that and the phone auto finds the apn for wind
but even after manual input still same thing. I have even tried the *#*#4636#*#* code and configure on that as well and *#2263# for the other rom still either one if the radio is good for voice or the other for data. I wish they had one that worked on both and good

Hi!
I think you should flash another modem, Modem/Radio/Baseband is all the same thing and can be seen by going to Settings - About Phone - Baseband. It's basically a driver which receives and sends Mobile Network signals as well as handling switching between GPRS, 3G, HSDPA etc..
anyway, here is the collection of modems for our s2
also, remember that Usually just flashing and then using the same modem for 3-5 days should tell you how well it performs in your are and with you Mobile Network operator. Please remember that it takes around 2-3 days for a Modem to "settle" and achieve optimum performance, so don't judge how good a Modem is straight after flashing. That's where a lot of people fail when asserting battery drain.
on the sidenote, here is a youtube link on how to flash a modem:

hope this helps,

With LQ6 modem, it's exactly the same issue.
Two ways to find a modem that will work well for you:-
a) Find someone in the same country who uses the same carrier as you & ask them which modem they use, and try that modem in the first instance.
b) Get a bunch of modems (lots of links to CWM flashable modems on XDA) & try as many as you need to until you find one that works well for you.
You mean xxlq6?

I am using the xxlq6 modem. The signal is great everywhere, and when it's working in 3g, the consumption is not excessive. The battery lasts me 18/19 hours mixed between wi-fi and 3g, with 3/3:30 hours of screen and use more than normal. In any case I advise you to try several and see which modem is best for you. I tried several before I get to that modem.
See 3G will eat battery.. Its a fact.. Dont ask which modem u should use... Try urself... And see which suits u and your needs...
Peace
Hit Thanks & It will Disappear

Modems are location dependent. Also keep in mind that they are like ROMs and kernels in that you have to give them three to four battery cycles for them to settle down for you to notice a difference.

Hey!
So after going from Jb leak, which had XXLS6 (or LSJ6 can't remember) modem to CM10.1 I decided to switch to XXLQ6 which is the modem that came with the phone. Reason for this is I thought leak modem was for Poland and such areas only and I live in North Europe so I figured LQ6 would work better. I also thought calls sounded weird on cm and tried if this would solve it.
Well, it didn't. I think it's a rom "problem" and tbh it isn't even a problem because calls work fine, I just didn't remember having that sort of complete silence when no one was speaking (no static sound as before). Hope that makes sense
Now I'm thinking that ls6 will probably be the modem here as well, or the successor of it will be, so should I use that with CM10.1? It worked fine and battery was good too, or should I just stick with the old LQ6 since my ril matches with it, although this apparently means nothing. There's also option C) "Use whichever you want to"
I heard that this modem (LS6) has a battery drain issue for some users. I used it for a week and I didn't noticed any major issue personally
Bvlp7 is awesome, use this to find modems http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950 also don't change any rils
