Why homescreen is rewritten to often? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Why is my homescreen updating or rewritten so often? Have realy gone through my widget settings but it still looks like a memory problem to me.
Please what can i do about it?

Search for something called 'Pimp my rom' on XDA. Flash that and in aroma select keep launcher in memory.
Otherwise stop clearing ram.

Sorry to say that i have not yet rooted or modified my device. So i guess i have to live with it and hope that JB is removing this ****ty behavior.
Can you (or someone else) tell me why this is happening... is it low memory or what? It happens just out of the blue, it does not do this every time with one condition some time it does and some time it does not. Almost kind of a random behavior.

Do you often clear the ram from the task manager? This causes the launcher to be cleared as well and it'll have to redraw every time you press home. Just restart the phone and don't clear memory so much from the default Task manager. It should solve your problem.

[Q] Help - Detect App(s) randomly turning the screen on

As per the title I get a strange behavior with the screen randomly (every 30 mins) when in sleep mode.
It happens both with data and sync on and in flight mode.
I'm on the latest fw of my intl. S3, I had this issue since the beginning.
I'm rooted.
How can I detect what is causing it? Is there an app?
Tx for your help.

It happens both via 3G and Wifi (where my ICS Tablet does not have the issue).
More importantly it happens in flight mode.
Thanks but I think it is an app or an OS part.
So, is this the cause ??
Happens with me too, but I am unrooted to try this method.

I have not tried, but I don't think it is a network related issue as it happens also when in Flight mode (everything switched off).
Make sense?

I tried in the past with no luck.
Partial wakelocks gives to me a huge numbers of apps/services. I do not see the option to have "the last one that caused the screen to go on".
Can you help me to narrow the search?
Help me!!
Am I the only with this issue???
It happened to me tonight, but I have never noticed it until now.
If u got the official Facebook app installed, then uninstall it and see what happens.
Otherwise uninstall your apps 1 by 1, untill u find the rouge app.this caused by an app

I had the exact same issue, and the same question a day or two ago.
I did what a previous user stated, I traced back my steps and uninstalled the latest apps I had installed and then installed one by one and found the one causing the problem. Unfortunately I cannot remember which app it was for me, but it can be any one of them.
Guess there must be a way to log all current system activity to a file and once it happens, check the log?

The problem with the "bug" in this case is that it drains battery power unnecessarily

How do I stop android closing my browser when left to run in background?

It's all about ram. If you have 512 mb and running ICS or JB, just forget it..1 gb would be just ok, if you don't open much apps. You can set priority of apps in some tasks manager, maybe system tuner? Never tried... Waiting for the galaxy note with 2 gb!

Well. My iPad 2 with 512ram doesn't do this.. So I assume it's the os.

Still doesn't work. Pages still have to reload after inactive for a while.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Android is a totally different operating system than iOs (and also requires more Ram for itself)
It runs a lot of tasks in the background unlike iOs, which makes it a lot more adaptable and flexible but also more resource-intensive.
Secondly apps are categorized in groups, which are then consecutively killed based on their OOM (Out of memory) score, the lowest group being "empty app" and regrouping all apps that are no longer being needed. Typically "empty" is killed when there are 90MB left (customizable if rooted).
First off you may want to check what eats your Ram (Java is one of the worst languages for Ram in the entire universe) and kill/freeze/remove those processes.
Then take a look into zRam for extended Ram (swap) and set swappiness to 99
There once were experimental patches that forced selected tasks into swap instead of killing them but since they were hooked right into memory management, that used up lots of Cpu cycles and caused strange behaviours - sadly.
Btw, needing 1Gig for Ics or Jb is just bollocks. Galaxy S1's run awesome under Ics and even such devices as the 256MB Ace get a lot better.

How do I customize the thing? The part where you say I need to be rooted.

Its only reload if you closed it on tasks
So dont do it
Sent from my GT-I9300
when you want to leave the browser in the background do you press back button or home? I have the experience with facebook app that if i press back than when i get back to the app it reloads as if i closed it, but if i press home then come back to the app it's there as i left it. As to the browser can't really say anything as I use maxthon browser and don't usually have reloading problems.
One such app is "Advanced tools".
However it is strictly recommend to leave those values alone unless you REALLY know what you are doing since tweaking these values without any knowledge will only worsen the problem or make your phone more or less unusuable with lag.

I explained a few posts earlier exactly when and how Android kills processes. Inactivity is a LRU factor but certainly not the trigger to kill an app.

Question
Sorry to bump an old thread, but has anyone actually found a solution to this problem? I've tried supercharger, minfree manager, RAM manager pro, and Galaxy Tuner. None have proven to be an actual solution to the problem that seems to be baked right in to the heart of all versions of Android after eclair (I'm actually on the Epic, not the GS3).
Is this fixable or am I just chasing my tail on this one?

Slow operation, keyboard and battery issue

Hi,
I have 3 issues. Hope somebody can help:
1: Phone operates too slow. For example when I go to menu, app icons take around 5 seconds to appear. Similarly when I go to home screen it takes the same lag. So much delay that I could capture the screen short. You can see that weather clock and alarm widgets didn't appear. I cleared cache several times n restarts but it works fine for few mins n then again becomes laggy.
2: Keyboard disappears after typing few letters and sometimes it takes several secs to get it back. Reappearing delay is may be related to the above problem of slow response but why it disappears in first place.
3: Battery doesn't charge despite the whole night charging. Its happens not do often but really bugging me. I noticed that whenever I get missed notifications like calls or msgs it stops charging. Not sure why it's happening.
Looking forward to some help from experts. Please note that I feel these problems are occurring more after recent update. I'm using stock Rom of intl s3 version.
Thanks

I am also on XXBLFB and facing no such issues. You should check if some app is not eating a lot of RAM.
Jelly Bean won't be available for this region anytime soon keeping in view the time it took S2 to receive ICS update here.
I suspect the same. my RAM doesn't go below 600mb even if I close all apps and clear ram from task manager. After restart, phone behaves well for an hour but then again becomes laggy. My S2 is much faster than this with lot more apps. This S3 is really disappointing me.

my suggestion is to do a factory reset (after backing up your contacts, messages, notes etc). then download your apps again and note the behavior of phone after each app. You might find the culprit then. It doesn't seem like an issue with the update since I also updated mine. Also very less likely its gonna be hardware issue.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Maybe the CPU is not working at its entire power. If the factory reset is not working, maybe you should go and replace the device, before it's too late. When you bought it ? If the phone have less than 30 days you should get an instant replace. Not sure that JB will help you, as the installation isn't like a "full format" of your phone
Hard reset: *2767*3855# (no warning message before formating, so type it when you're ready, also remove the sdcard if you don't want wiped too.)
Or *#*#7780#*#* - Factory data reset - Clears Google-account data, system and program settings and installed programs. system will not be deleted, and OEM programs, as well as My Documents (pictures, music, videos)
Thanks. Will get in touch with the vendor for replacement (though I'm sure he will not agree that easily) or else will do a complete reset. I'm really pissed off for spending this much for getting this device. Samsung is very serious in pushing their loyalists away!

Sometimes, there can be some errors. You know, nobody's perfect and we are all humans. After one week after I bought my phone, I found that it have sort of scratch on the screen, but looked like inside of it. It could be seen only in high light. The vendor replaced it instantly. This one is perfect. Love it and is extremely fast and I have many apps on it. Good luck!

Check in task manager, you should have an idea about how is going bad. Also change the antivirus for Avast. Avast is much better. However I recommend without antivirus. I just scan sometimes my phone with it or lookout but never leave the antivirus installed. Is just a waste of RAM memory.
If nothing works do a full backup with Kies and do the complete factory reset.
Most of the apps will be automatically reinstalled when you add back your Google account, but you need the backup for settings and saves.

Even with all the apps I have on my phone the RAM usage is around 580-640 (stupid SwiftKey using 45 mb most of time) and when I kill the apps I have 430 mb, slowly increasing til 530. Try reset, you have nothing to lose.

Some annoying problems

Hello,so now I need a help because recently I got one very annoying problem:
On Dolphin browser or Next browser (It's the browsers that I usually using) I got very annoying popup ad that I have low memory and I need to clean it up, ok I pressed on "clean now" and I was redirected on Google Play Store app called "Du speed booster) and of course I checked my phone free RAM too but I had about 300MB free (earlier I didn't notice about this issue,it's started to happen about one week ago,it's happening only on certain websites, and + downloaded airpush detector and some Ad detector apps to check what app could cause those annoying popup ads with low memory message but no "bad" app was found) So does anyone have idea what could cause it?
And another problem that I've for along time (ok it's not such big problem as one above but as for regular Tapatalk user it's quite annoying) so to go on topic,on Tapatalk app I have slight scrolling lag,and I tried all solutions how to fix it but no one has helped (it's overclocking CPU up to 1.6GHZ,changing CPU governors, trying different I/O schedulers, forcing GPU rendering, and of course installing some AOSP roms) but slight scrolling lags happening anyway. So I would like to know, it is only me having Tapatalk scrolling lag issues or not, because on Google I haven't found a lot of people with scrolling lag issues on Tapatalk app)
So any suggestions and advices would be welcome.

Hmm... I cleaned its cache but it's didn't help a lot. I am using latest version of Tapatalk and these stutters usually happens about every 3-4 seconds. There is a difference that on every ROM it's different on one ROM scrolling stuttering is slighter on another one it's bigger.

I recommend downloading AdBlack+, it seems to be very effective against those popups.
