[Q] Problem with ROM installation - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have installed Blackout ICS Incredible v3.1.0 for HTC Desire HD. After successfully rooting the device, with Advance Ace Hack Kit, I installed the ROM. The installation went nice, but at the first reboot, it stucks at the HTC screen and stays there.
What should I do now? How can I fix this problem?
I thought to get back at my last Android Version(but I don't have a backup, I have to take a fresh one) and try installing again.
Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance,
Dan Constantin

Hey Dan. What are the requirements for that rom? Or maybe you don't like waiting. First boot can take up to 30 minutes.

I didn't know that it can take up to 30 minutes, I thought something was wrong. I will keep waiting. Till then, here is the ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531218

It has been 40 minutes and I am still waiting. I think something is not wrong. Any suggestions?

Did you full wipe before flashing it?

Yes, I have performed a full wipe. Data + Cache + Dalvik Cache. Also, the install had the option of the full wipe, I did that too. It still stucks at the first boot in the white HTC screen. Someone told me that I may have used a newer/older type of boot that my phone doesn't support, but he couldn't give me any more details.
Here are the steps that I have done for the ROM:
1. installed Advance Ace Hack Kit
2. went into bootloader
3. went to recovery
4. from those menus, I wiped data/factory reset, cache
5. again, from those menus, I choosed advanced and wiped dalvik cache
6. from the mount menu, I mounted /system
7. the final step was to choose which zip to install
On the installation, I also did the full wipe, as I said, and after copying the files, I receive a message that my ICS has successfully installed and the option to reboot. At the reboot, I get a white screen with HTC in the middle and it freezes there. For hours (I left it from last night till this morning).
What's next?

[Q] touchpad stuck in bootloop on CM boot after instal alpha 3.5!

i tried installing CM7 alpha 3.5. first install went okay fully. went to reboot and boot up and after i clkick cyanogenmod in the dual boot loader, it will display cyanogen icon and load for about 8 - 10 seconds then restart. keeps going in that order. tried erase/wipe all, dalvik, cache, etc... i am not sure what hapopened. does anyone have any ideas for me?
thanks in advance!
Bad zip?
Are you coming from a earlier version of cm7?
Or is it a first time flash for the touchpad?

coming from alpha 3. not first time flashing. havent had problems before. tried redownloading the zip 2x
i had the same issue with miui. took me a day to figure it out, as there are few posts on this. you must "wipe sd" in cm recovery before installing the rom. do a backup first. it doesnt touch the webos area.

tried to do clockwork recovery. finished backing up boot, then went to back up system and restarted.
how do you wipe sd? do you mean partition it?
A sort of solution
I upgraded from 3 to 3.5 as well and I got in to a bootloop as well do I downgrade then re-upgrade or what, any help would be great.
EDIT: After posting this I reinstalled 3.5 and it's working but i'm never going to turn off android again at least until ICS

did you perform any other steps? you just installed 3.5? nothing special?
edit: i tried reinstalling 3.5. i tried redownloading it ot make sure it wasnt corrupt. nothing happened. it reboots during the installing system partition.
I wiped the cache and dalvik other than that I did nothing special, then I just re-installed it and it's working so far.

[Q] Q: how to stop update-reboot-loop in atrix 4g?

hi guys,
my problem is that i unlocked my bootloader with nandroid/www.goapk.com's recovery, an after AT&T's OTA push from v2.3.4 to v2.3.6 i am stuck in a "boot up, shut down for applying update, stuck in update process, take battery out, restart, boot up, auto-shut down for applying update...." loop...
now i know that "somewhere" in android is a batch command to automatically shut down and apply the patch.
HOW AND WHERE can i prevent the automatic shutdown after boot-up, so i can fix this mess myself ?
thx-a-thon in advance
cheers
I am in the same mess.
Update: Reboot into recovery format the /cache partition and back to normal again.
Same problem here. Any fix?
EDIT: I think I'm going to try reflashing stock 2.3.4 via fastboot, then flash the stock recovery (I heard CWM is what's making the OTA update fail), and then try the 2.3.6 OTA again.
Ok, I managed to fix it without flashing anything. If you've got CWM recovery installed, boot into it and clear both caches. That fixed it for me.
awesome!!!!

Nah, it's cool. Keep your beer money
Just pass on the solution to anyone else having issues.
Running aurora on my atrix and was stuck in the same situation after I finally got tired of the update popping up and decided to let it try and fail. I got stuck in the same cycle of boot, restart, fail update, take battery out, over and over (of course trying other things.. not insane)
Wiping cache fixed the problem. Phone rebooted and I got a message saying the update failed and to try it again, no more annoying push.
Thanks guys.

Hi Guys,
Please give me step by step procedure.
1. I did system update.
2. Phone has restarted and i'm getting aopk.com image.
I tried even removing the battery and inserted again. from this thread, I have inferred that clearing cache will work. Please help me to clear the cache and help me to bring back my mobile alive.
Thanks in Advance!

Srirammobile: please provide details, rom, bootloader locked/unlocked, rooted?
you'll need cwm recovery for atrix to be able to resolve things with less hassle. Search the dev section for the proper romracer cwm image.

Hi, I am having the same issue. Can you please tell me how to wipe both the catch? I have rooted Atrix 4G and ROM manager installed. Yesterday I got OTA update and after downloading the update when phone restarted then it stuck at 'failed to boot 2 starting rsd mode' message. Pulling the battery boots the phone again but it restarts again and this is happening in loop. After phone restart I am getting only a little time to open any application.
Any help would be appreciated.

Android is updating

I've seen a post about this one in the EVO area, but not here amongst us SGS3 owners:
When I reboot my phone, it always goes through an "Android is updating, application xxx of 3xx" counting up - and takes two or three minutes every reboot.
Is this normal under ICS?
Hmm, I'd say this is Not normal. One of the big "selling points" of the gs3 and ICS is the quick boot time. For me it is very quick. Maybe u should try doing a factory reset and see if it stops this behavior??

If you're rebooting your phone after you wipe your dalvik cache, than that is normal. Reason being is that it stores applications for optimization so that the OS can run more smoothly. When you wipe your dalvik, it clears them out, and then when you reboot, it rebuilds the cache for all applications. Just do a normal reboot without wiping anything and see if it still does it.
That is not normal if it is happening on every boot, only if you wipe your dalvik cache then yes it will update.

Yep, just a simple reboot or even a fault / reboot does the same thing. I'm not wiping the Dalvik cache or anything. Happens every time I boot my phone, and I've noticed over the past few days that I never seem to go into 4G/LTE mode any more. Curious - I guess I've laid the hammer on it a bit too much.
Are you using a custom rom or rooted? Or are you completely stock?

what rom r u using ????
with aokp there are setting to which the user can wipe cache and dalvik on every reboot
I read on another forum that a TitaniumBackup odex file may cause this on certain phones. Try uninstalling the apk and then re-install it.

Sure sounds like it. I'm using the "Route66" rooted ROM with the Invisiblek overclocking kernel in place of the recovery.
Most likely the overclock. i ran the stock rooted 66 with no issue. I also have titanium backup installed without that issue.

Worth a shot. I'll give it a rip and report back... Thanks!
hmmm... Uninstalled and replaced Titanium Backup, reflashed the stock recovery: no joy there. I'm still getting the rebuild every time I boot. I suppose when I have more time (read next weekend, I'm working 12 hours every day this weekend, then my niece is in town for a week), I'll blow it to hades and start over.

its S-ON, yes i can access recovery, the only thing i did was try to change the font using Font Installer then it rebooted after that it would go on HTC quietly brilliant logo then blacked off, i hold the power button but it did the same thing over n over again for an hour. So i thought if i factory reset it it would fix the problem but i think i made it worse cause now its just stuck on HTC quietly brilliant logo, I left it there for couple of hours and went out hoping when i get back a miracle would happen and it'll be fix but when i got home its still stuck on that logo. I still can access recovery though. This is my very first rooted phone and i have no idea what to do next.

What recovery are you using, TWRP? Had you flashed a ROM prior to tinkering with fonts? Did you make a full backup of your stock ROM after HTC unlocking to load your recovery? I am going to make some assumptions to my questions. If you are using TWRP you can mount the sdcard from recovery and copy on another ROM (pick one to use ... MeanROM?). Even if you can't mount the sdcard from recovery you can still get a ROM on to your phone by pulling sdcard2 from the external sdcard slot and manually mounting/copying to/from your CPU.
If you made a backup of your stock rom after loading your recovery then the first thing to try is wiping everything (factory, caches, etc...) and restore the backup. (Sounds like you may have tried that already).
If that does not work then download a different ROM and try it ... MeanROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727167) uses it's own splash at start so that may help (because it sounds like you are stuck at the HTC splash).

When you get in recovery wipe cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, system. Then reflash the rom, you will be fine.
Sent from my lair.
It seems to be that some people are having problems with flashing other fonts (source). ALWAYS do a nandroid backup before doing any of these types of modifications to your phone in the future, it's the fastest way to fix broken things. Also make sure that the fonts you are trying to install have been working with our phones and the newest versions of Android and/or Sense.
Here are some things you can do that might fix your bootloop. In descending order try these:
If you have a current Nandroid backup, restore it. It will get your phone working 100% with the least amount of data loss and won't require you to set it all up again.
Re-flash the same ROM you have (if it's stock, it can also be found in the Android Dev section of the forum). This will likely fix the problem. Especially if it's a font issue.
Hope it doesn't come to this but run the RUU that matches your system. This will completely set your phone back to day 1. You'll have to reroot, etc.
Best of luck. And remember to do nandroids often! :good:
THANK YOU GUYS!!!! i was about to give up
i did what you guys told me to do, download a different rom install it on my sdcard and flash it in recovery. AGAIN thank you guys so much, ya'll just made my day. MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

[Q] Help, stuck at "dual Core" screen. I can access CWM Recovery though

Hey folks,
So the end of Q3 came with no ICS so I decided it was time to learn about modding these phones. I have modded Xboxes etc so I figured I would try to take this on.
My Phone:
AT&T MB860 bone stock with 4591 on it when I started.
I was able to unlock the phone following a tutorial on youtube. Then I tried to reflash CWM and CM7 using AUTOMATIC_UNLOCK_V4.2. Thats where things went wrong. The phone got stuck at the Dual core screen (to be honest I might not have waited 10 minutes after flashing).
So now here I am the battery is drained so I am using a cut off USB cable for power. When the phone is booting it says "unlocked" in the top left corner I can access all of the menus. When I choose recovery the phone boots into ClockWork Mod recovery. I am hoping I am half way there and the kind folks here can guide me to the finish. If not I'm open to starting from scratch whichever is going to be fastest. I'll attach a few pics for reference

(I went through this today, I needed to use option 6 in automatic unlock 4.2 before I could get a Rom on my phone.) this was wrong, tried so many things I got confused, go to this thread:
[Unlocked Only][RECOVERY][2011-11-14] Custom CWM-based Recovery 5.0.2.7-atrix5 in ATRIX android development
and download one of the zipped recoveries, flash through recovery to get a modified CWM that left me install a Rom. I was stuck at the same screen as you before I did this now I'm up and running with MROM.
Your recovery is too old. Get a newer version of CWM. Try flashing this. If you can't you will have to fastboot flash a newer recovery.
Flash ROMs with CWM, not automated tools. CWM is the safest way. As soon as you get a new recovery installed create a backup. Good luck!
okay guys I'm jammed up I download the file CWM_Atrix4G_5.0.2.0 and copied it to a clean microsd. Then I went through the recovery menu
Install zip from sdcard>choose zip from sdcard>
In the next folder list I am unable to find the CWM file. Any tips on how to get the file straight onto the phones internal flash? Maybe through RSD?
Dude, you're trying to install recovery from the recovery... Doesn't really make sense, does it?
Use fastboot instead.
Avoid RSD at all costs.

You can't do a first install of recovery from recovery. But you can update (assuming recovery is functioning - even partially).

I have flashed recovery with fastboot exactly once - when I unlocked by bootloader. Ever since it has been flashable zips.
Okay I successfully flashed the new recovery to v5.0.2. Then I chose "apply /sdcard/update.zip" I received the "Install from sdcard complete message" I then chose "+Go Back+" then "reboot". The phone rebooted and sat at the logo with "unlocked" in the corner for a few minutes. I thought maybe I needed to clear it by pulling the battery for a few seconds, which I did. then I let it sit on my desk for 20 minutes at the logo screen.
do need to go in and clear cache? is there another file I should try to flash?
Any input would be appreciated.

Umm... That would just install the recovery again. You need to flash a ROM. Seems like your boot partition (aka. the kernel) is borked.

I just installed CM7 on my Atrix last week. Don't forget to install gapps like I did. I had to install them as a zip from the recovery, but I think it's also possible to use the ROM Manager app.
Look for the Google Apps section on this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257574 This will have the Market (now Google Play) so you can download more apps.
After that, play with all the features! I started with Menu > Settings > CyanogenMod Settings and started playing around. Don't play with the performance settings without knowing what they do.
Also, Make a backup! Make a backup! Make a backup! It may save you when little else will.
