Lately my xperia u is having strange wifi problems..i simply can't browse or open any webpage,there seems to be no data transfer of any kind,no matter whatever i try..my phone shows that i am connected to a wifi connection with an excellent reception,all my other devices work in the range but still am not able to use internet on my phone in any way..i had flashed ics earlier but i excluded the baseband..now i am back to stock gingerbread,locked and unrooedt..i am able to browse via data services on my carrier,n even though the phone shows being connected but i am unable to use internet on it..i have already checked and rechecked my router settings,tried everything but there is no issue with the router,confirmed it as my friend's xperia go was able to connect and surf with all possible settings on router but my phone was able to connect successfully but then no browsing at all..i have already searched on xda and google,and i havent found a similar problem anywhere else..guys i really really need your advice as to what should i do now..??
Even tried the static ip checked,it worked for a while but again dead now..please tell me how to change the default ip address being used by my phone without having to set it again n again for diffrent networks..it works with a neighbours wifi connection..also tell me is there a way to renew or refresh the ip range of my android device..
Most of the Xperia U user encounter this problem.
This is what I've been through, I bring my personal router to college and I share the WiFi with five of my friend. Whenever I try to connect with my Xperia U, it will wipe off every single internet connection to other device.
For now, all we can do is report it to the Sony ICS developer.

I dont undrstand the reason at all,it was working fine n all of sudden its having this problem out of nowhere..i feel offended to go through all of this..anybody plz suggest me a fix for this..also,can i claim for warranty because of this issue..??

Hi guys.
It seems I have the same issue on my office WiFi network.
At home, my network gives autoo IP address, provided you have the wep password. In office I have to configure manually IP, DNS, etc.
I did all the config steps, I get full signal, but there is no data transfer at all. My BlackBerry worked without any problems.
I have the stock ROM, btw.

I've spent half an hour at the phone with router remote assistance, made them change wi-fi mode and channel but got no results. My Xperia U still shows it's connected, but there is no data traffic at all, like it's firewalled.
I feel rather depressed

Or you can just change your APNs and use the built in Wifi Hotspot.
Just add a new APN with epc.tmobile.com and name it anything you want. Delete the default TMobile Data. Enjoy free wifi tethering =)

Why are u yelling in caplocks? Most people that tether know that already. MrMako posted this cuz my tethering wasn't working for me right away on stock rooted GB so he posted this thinking he can help.

With the Wireless tether, I've got the correct version and settings, but the wireless network disappears when I change the device profile, any suggestions to fix this?
And while the wifi might not be blocked, does this mean that tmobile cannot slow down my service?

Simply put it on ICSgeneric and click also router fix, or if you're still GB DL APN Manager from playstore and delete all the tethering data with pcweb in them

Generic ICS. When I do that, the app works, but doesn't register on my computer by either a cable or the wifi adapter.

GB=gingerbread and not sure if they can read your data usage or not

i've tested using app that included on this ROM not by default. but there's some of my android devices can't be detected, anyway... this working fine with Laptop and my wife's Symbian phone...

you can download wifi tether for android 3.1 BETA14 see it on the downloads tab.
though there is no wpa_supplicant support. but tether still works. tried on ics.
Default wifi tether doesn't work for the device I want to connect.
Maybe because it uses Ad hoc to connect I think?

really??? this is even saver than cm9 about battery life. how could that happen to you? i tested this rom using 1Ghz frequency with 3G connection for 1 day (non stop). and it still have 30% of battery life. i'm seriously about this....

Its stable. Data works. Used it myself and there were no crashes. Nobody else is complaining right?
Just don't turn off Auto Rotate screen, I think?, and you'll be fine.
Judging from the FINAL in the name I'm guessing there won't be any updates.

It seems that turning auto rotate off causes freezes. I know, crazy, right? I also don't like it but it's better then crashing. No one knows what causes this bug.
That said I'm not sure if this bug applies to this rom. You can either test or wait for the creator to answer.

Even if I set a password to my hotspot d problem still stays actually what happens is that a hotspot is created n I can even connect other devices to the same hotspot. But internet never gets shared between the two. Its just that I get a new WiFi network on scanning from my tablet n my tab even connects to the same but still no internet on it. And d error as in screenshot appears everytime.
Also another thing dat I hav observed is that this problem occurs only while sharing my mobile network(data plan) and does not occur if i am connected to some external WiFi n sharing d same from my xp

That is the problem if you are using the stock US firmware. Flash a generic ftf from somewhere else and your tethering will work fine. Its an issue on the US firmwares because they hardcoded a T-Mobile apn that is used when you enable tethering even if you don't use T-Mobile.
I have confirmed it with Sony US and they are working on a fix but with JB coming we might not see the fix till then.

I have a little suggestion for Sony Devs.. What if they will add support to grant Root Access to this app so that in case you lose your device and not DATA activated ( we don't always activate our DATA as it cost money), a GSM/3G signal from a telco provider will connect/trigger your device automatically to turn on GPS and/or DATA... I think you can understand what I wanted to say guys...
Just a suggestion which is I think very useful if implemented..

I think it's good to move to system, cause it's easy to remove the memory card
Successfully Themed it So It's Holo, rather than Holo.Light. It also follows the Background Wallpaper too.
Locate to /res/values/style.xml
Delete Any .Light Extension
Eg.
Theme.DeviceDefault.Light
to
Theme.DeviceDefault

I Have Xperia Mini Pro and is rooted and bootloader is unlocked ...i make mine laptop as wifi hotspot(by ad-hoc network) but mine phone does not shows it...i have searched on google n tried lots of tricks but not does it work plz help me if there is any solution...mine phone has cm10 rom with fxp kernel

Try connectify or mhotspot. Always works for me. BTW did u try connecting ur phone to any other wifi network?

Yo i use other wifi from wifi modem n alls it works greAt...
But when i make mine laptop wifi hotspot then its wifi is working in other laptops and in mine sony ericsson hazel but in mine xperia mini pro it does not shows the network...
Do u use wifi on android phone though ur laptop???

While starting hotspot it gives error
Driver problem found.plz wait while mhotspot fixes it....
When i click ok it says...
Drivers restored... plese restart pc to the changes be applied
then i restrat pc...again start hotspot but same prob...

what type of windows are you using?
in windows xp, connectify can only share wifi through ad-hoc (computer-to-computer connection)
in windows seven, connectify can share wifi through ad-hoc(computer-to-computer connection) and access point(wpa2-psk) (computer-to-any wifi device)
our phones is not compatible with ad-hoc that's why you cant search it. try to use access point (in the security mode option)
