Hold power button and volume down at the same time.
You can also use the SDK for screenshots

Must say that i can't get mine to take screenshots either. Not sure if it related to the fact that i use a different launcher or something like that, but ever since ICS its just not worked.
I use Snappea to take screenshots as i normally have my phone connected to that for texting anyway.
ICS Xperia phones can take screenshots... just hold power + volume down button together (not power then vol down, or vol down then power)
kinda tricky when you're not used to it but that's the only way provided~ or you can use apps.
just press power button and volume down key together at the same time....not power button n then vol down key or viceversa...should do it together ....enjoy...

I had no problem with it, if it hangs just pushing the power button for long time reboot the device.

This is what I do.
Same here, my phone wouldn't wake up, power, vol down for about 5 seconds forced reboot.
The manual says to force a reboot by holding down the Power key and the Volume down key.
Anyone know how /if that's different from holding down just the power key or the Power key and both the Volume down and up keys, two other things I've read mentioned?

holding the power key by its self doesnt always work. It just is a hard power down. The power + vol down is essentially the same as a battery pull.

Holding power and down volume key at the same time is a forced re-boot, and you'll automatically go into a power on situation, with the boot animations starting.
Holding just the power down button should only power off the device, and not re-boot, so you have to re-press the power button to start again.
Sometimes, though, if the phone recognizes the power down by holding the power button, once it turns off, it recognizes the power button a separate time, and you re-boot. This is actually an error, and "shouldn't" occur, but does because of the system resetting.
guyzz i was wondering, i've updated to ICS and i don't know how to take screen capture ??
i've read in recent posts that pressing power + volume down at the same time for 3 sec would make capture but it's not working in my fone, by doing above my fone changes to silent mode nt any screen capture.
hot to take screenshot ??
p.s. i have LWW and ICS 4.0.4
Press power + vol down button

Press Power button + Volume down button and HOLD it for about 3 seconds...
i think you have to be accurate by pressing in the same time
Hey there
When I was in GB, I could easily take screen shots by pressing the home key and meanwhile press the power button, but after upgrading to 4.0.4 this method didn't work anymore,
Do you know a way to capture screen in ics rom without installing a third party program
vol down and power button will do and also you can press the power button bit long it will show u a option to take a screen shot
Try power button and home key this work for me (also 4.0.4)
Hold down power button and home button at the same time and keep it like that for 3-4 seconds. It will take a screen shot.

After a bad flash, I'm stuck at "htc One/beatsaudio" white screen, but unable to reboot in bootloader/recovery, even not power down...
Holding the power button a loooooooooooooong time makes softbuttons blinking, but nothing else happen...
Any idea?
Aaaaargh...finally solved...:victory:
I post "MY" solution, maybe it can help someone else (using the "search" functionality...)
Just press Power + Vol. Up + Vol. Down at the same time...:highfive:
The Other way: Press Power long time, until your phone gets off. After a second press and hold Vol. Down, press the power button and the phone starts in bootloader mode.

Thank you, but I was starting this thread because it wasn't possible anymore to use the normal way: Power button 10 sec. and Power + Vol. Down to get in bootloader mode...

I'm just wondering what the OFFICIAL WAY to boot into recovery is when the device is turned off...I've googled this question 15 times and ALWAYS come back with different answers....some say
1) Power + Home + Volume up
2) Volume Up + Power Button
3) Home + Power + Volume Up and when Samsung Logo appears let go of home but continue holding Volume up + power
4)Volume Up + Power but when you feel the phone vibrate let go of Power button and continue to hold volume up
5) Power down phone...turn it on holding power button and when you see Samsung Logo hold Volume Up
Even looking through threads on here gives a hundred different answers....Which way is the official way?
Thanks for the feedback/input

Well in my way just hold down the Volume up + Home + Power, then wait till the Samsung Logo and let go all of the buttons.
No need to press the home button on the GS4. Volume up+power until you see Samsung logo
If already rooted there is an app in play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siriusapplications.quickboot can press reboot straight into recovery

Thanks for that but I really was just wondering the way to do it when phone is powered off there's so many conflicting ways even the first two people who answered said two different things and every article i read is different
I do Vol UP + Home + Power until i see the Samsung screen. Point is whatever works for you is what you should do... simple. Tomato-Tomaado

Almost every way mentioned will work, there's no official way.
To me the easiest is (with power off) hold Volume up, press the power button and, when I feel the vibration, release the power button.
Whatever you prefer is YOUR "official way."
