[Q] Newbie question - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I'm new to the whole android os, and i just bought an Odys Loox tablet, and i would like to install android JB from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903745 , but don't really have an ideea how to do this without messing things up. Could anyone please give me a step by step guide on this. Thanks.

Look first of all you need to root your tablet and doing so will VOID YOUR WARRANTY. Then you gotta flash the kernel of the Rom and follow the instructions given with the Rom.
I know I don't explain that good but better search your phone on xda I think you should get your answer

the instructions there are pretty clear don't worry even if mess with your phone flash any stock and it will be back to working ways

absolute beginner be warned

OK this is my first ever foray into "tinkering" or Modding anything ever (I don't know much more than FB and Google) so I am a bit thick but want to learn. I got a Galaxy S2 GT I9100T and it is currently network locked and I was wondering if by rooting it I can remove the lock? Or is there another way to remove the lock which I can do without having to pay, but would like to root the phone for some experience anyway.
Thankyou for your time.

before rooting try 2 unlock ur phone since rooting will not unlock ur phone but helps in installing custom roms
google for unlocking ur phone and then root the same
Google around and you will find a way to unlock your s2. I'm at work so i don't have time to find the link.
Then..
Rooting the original rom will open a possibility to flash custom roms (Android OS) and do what ever you want to your S2. Note that installing root will do everything for you so you can start flashing roms, the kernel(drivers and stuff) is installed when rooting AND the custom recovery also. Recovery is where you flash roms and other things, things you should have read everything about before flashing.
Recovery is like an app that starts instead of Android os and from there you can do all the tinkering you want to what ever you want.
So no, unlocking will only allow you to use what ever carrier you want.
Just read everything you can find about what you are about to do.. and please... read/search a tread for tour issue before asking about it in a thread.. :-D
Good luck and have fun!
ANDROID FTW
for unlocking the phone u can try this link below
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.helroz.galaxysunlock&feature=search_result
PS : read the user review of the same first
That requires rooting so I guess that will be my next step then will look into that tomorrow/today when I am a bit more alive.

Will also be able to do more research into the matter. I am going to try use this as a learning process which I can expand on as well because I am very interested in the programming developing side of things but I know SFA. I figure since I have good toys I should know how to play with them properly My laptop has Ubuntu which I want to start learning and I also have this Acer 501, this is just going to be my crash course and a friend said here is a good place to get good advice.

New to Android and This is all Chinese to Me, help?

Haven't been on this forum in years and now back. Looking at getting the Galaxy S3 from ATT as the new iphone doesn't seem worth it after all this wait. I have never used any android device before so know nothing about their OS or anything really. I've used HTC Tilt2 device which was probably my last device on this forum and flashed roms and all that just fine. Looking on here though for the past hour i can't find like a tutorial on how to flash roms? Do i need to unlock my stock phone first?
I see people talk about using Odin which sounds like this is a flashing software for roms?
I'm really interested in flashing this rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334 as it seems like a stock rom but with all the upgrades in speed/stability/etc. How would i do this and safely?
What are the fail safe procedures such as i get a bad flash what do i do? Phone doesn't finish flash and gets stuck on boot logo what do i do? If im at work and this happens can i fix it via SD card while on the go?
I remember there usually being a sticky that answers this kind of stuff but have read all the stickies for this sub-forum device and found none that in layman's terms describes the above?
I will be reading much more on this site trying to figure this thing out but this really all is Chinese to me as i know nothing about android and their OS or flashing procedures. Remember the days of a simple rom flash on my Tilt2 device took about 30 seconds no brainer. I some how can't understand this stuff though. Greatly appreciate if anyone can answer the above questions and/or point me in the right directions as a total 100% noob to android and this phone. Thank you for your time.
Unless you want a bricked device....do not flash any roms from this section! These are for the international variant only!

First root your CURRENT ROM and than make a nandroid backup on SD card and than go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1705 forum and you can find everything about the AT&T variant Galaxy sIII...
Happy Flashing....
Check
www.Galaxys3root.com
It contains all guidance about rooting and flashing roms in all international And S3 variants.

[Q] Want to Root my i717 ICS 4.0.4

Newb needs help, I just unbricked and updated phone with Kies to 4.0.4 ICS. Now I want to root it to get the ATT bloatware off the phone. I read and here to make a backup ROM before doing this. I need a link or help in doing this and the proper way to root the phone.
Jump into the "note super everthing" thread...
It's a sticky at the top of the general section..
Just a little down the page, you'll see the rooting instructions for ICS, under the big green arrrow.
Read everything, then read again. The process is pretty simple, but knowledge is power..
good luck to you, and post here if you run into trouble, as we can help you........g
Edit:....yes, "MAKE A BACKUP" first before doing any serious work in there. The backup can be done with either a stock recovery, or custom recovery, but either way, it can save you later if a problem pops up...g

This is how I rooted my note with no problem at all. It was my first attempt at rooting and it was cake. All necessary links and files are on the page.. just take ur time and follow the steps carefully and in about 15mins you'll be rooted. Mind you, after rooting be sure not to delete the wrong "bloatware".

[Q] Root and custom roms

This might be the most noobish question of all noob questions but i have to ask since i can not find real information about it somehow. I have been doubting to ask it but will do anyway. So here it goes:
I want to root my telephone and been reading into it. Everywhere i find guides on how to root and flash custom roms. But (here it comes) : Is it needed to install a custom rom or is it possible to just root without installing said custom roms? I just want to take use of for example titanium back up apps.
I would be very greatfull for the answer on this question as it has been bugging me over the last week during my research on the topic.
Friendly greetings from Sweden

Lock down is coming.....
If you haven't been able to find your answers it's mean that you haven't done your research properly.
Yes, you can just root your phone. Custom ROM or Recovery is an addition.

You can just root without installing a custom rom. Same goes with the custom recovery.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
As Cool said above, you can Root and install a custom recovery if you wish, without installing a custom ROM. I Rooted mine within minutes of getting it home, but waited for about 2 weeks before I installed any custom ROMs on it. Sometimes it is better to get the feel first and then take the leap.
Moved to Q&A
Thanks for the answers. It is just all a little much information to understand it all at once. I'm sorry i posted in the wrong section, i thouht i posted right but sausage fingers. Going to give it a go today!

There is a useful thread here but make sure first you understand exactly what you are doing and why. If not, ask first.

Worked perfect, unlocked, rooted, and rom installed in about 40 mins.
THANKS
Hi ,
Congrats to you for getting a new rom . Actually I am also in the same boat as yours.
I read the instructions for root and installing the twrp and i think i can take the plunge.
However if you can guide how to install custom rom compatible with this twrp, that would be really helpful
Do i need to flash bootloader as well to install the custom rom
Would be great if you can point me to some instructions

You should find full information on compatibility in the first post of each ROM's development thread. If there is something you don't understand then ask there. You don't supply any information on which bootloader you have. You can double check from the position of the nvidia logo on startup: bottom middle = ICS, bottom right = JB.
If you are new to all this I would recommend you do a lot of reading before attempting anything and make your first custom ROM one that offers the best support. When you have chosen, spend as long as it takes to read and understand everything in the thread. Good luck :good:.
Thanks a lot for the advice
I am stock 4.1.1 jb, can you please let me know which custom rom would be the best to start with
