Just messing around and thought I would try the OTG cable I bought for my N7 with my Note. Plugged it up with a 16gb mini flash that has 7 movies on it. Didn't work.
Installed Stickmount (free in the Play store) and it works like a charm......just FYI:thumbup:

What's the biggest we can use with it? I doubt I'd be able to plug in my seagate 640gb freeagent go though :/
Why not try it and see. Does your external drive have a power supply?
My 8gb works OTG. I used my Xoom to format it thought. Not sure what it is formatted as (NTFS, FAT etc)
Stickmount huh? Cool will have to try that. I have had success with my 8gb thumb drive on my Note. It wouldn't work with my 1tb Western digital ext HDD though. It has it's own power supply.

I got a 16gb thumb drive from fry's and it worked great. It was faster than transferring files with the pc.
Does 32gig work?
Been using this. I have a 32gb transcend USB stick. Works great with this app and ntfs formatting. I use ntfs for the large file support (movies)

Hey guys my prime does the oddest stuff to my external drives. Both slots the micro and normal ones after a few days of use it will start changing the file names to weird as shown in the picture.
I have tried multiple cards and different devices but only happens on the prime.

Seriously my sd card problem are all but good!
If i format to ntfs it shows the files for a moment and they vanish. If i put it the dock it shows up. Then after afew days moving files around it starts saying cannot copy. Then i have reformat again. I have tried multiple cards but the same issues

figured out that the prime only likes certain sd cards and not the 2 32gb cards I have one by PNY and another from wintec.
Put in a 2gb kingstone and its fine now.
What kills me is that other Android devices use them with no issues

How did we lose the ability to install apps to storage card? I've run out of space and need to free up

It seemsvyou cannot do that. Its the same on Asus transformer. Except you do some mod to trick the system to understand that ext sd is int-sd.

Mind blown, why lol it's like a couple steps backward,l
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
I have read on Asus Transformer forum that it's the way Android is. Your int-memory will be seen as sdcard, and ext-sd is just external memory for movies and music or other stuffs. Hopefully, someone can do the mod to trick the system like the guy on Trnasformer forum.

Can someone tell me why anyone would want to move apps to SD with a galaxy s3?

To free up internal memory for other uses, like the OP states.

Try droidsail superapp2sd root from the market

Not possible yet...
Don't try any of the apps2SD apps. Still not possible to designate our Galaxy S3 extSdCard as "SDcard". We'll have to wait for devs to figure out a work-around. Why Samsung chose to label internal memory as SDcard is beyond me and it stifles our choices. But then they also change the TRRS pin-out for the headphones/headset so it doesn't work like every other phone out there...
Hi there , I'm using Nightelf 10.1 super stock kernel with a GB rom... I recently bought an OTG cable and it supports wireless mouse+keyboard ,but the problem is its not supporting USB mass storage, can anyone please help me ???

Dude, some pendrives such as DATATRAVELER or TRANSCEND are NOT supported especially that one with NTFS partition. Try to reformat to FAT32.
Also our Xperia's cannot read pendrives just like that. This feature is NOT built into our devices. We need an addon. Try using a Usb Host Controller (it's a free app) or USB OTG for Xperia ARC (that one is a paid app but is cheap - about 0.99$ and I recommend that one). Both of them of course needs root.
When you'll manage to connect, use ES File Explorer and try to find folder at your SDCARD named as usb, usbdisk, usbotg or slimar named folder.
That is the root of your pendrive. Don't use your disk too long. 5 to 20 minutes it's ok but copying HUGE movie from it to your SD Card for about 60mintues it may harm your device. Be careful!
Ok thanks  going to test

Format it in fat 32 with your pc

But if I format FAT32, I can not use files larger than 4GB , tx.
I don't think it's caused by having a 64 gig card. I had the same issue with just a 32 gig one. It didn't clear everything (like photos) but apps and stuff got wiped when I thought it was just going to erase the external microsd. So must be a major software bug. (I got the beta MIUI 7)
I formatted the card on a Mac using an SD adapter and it's working fine.
...
do not use the pop up screen to format.. format inside the system menu and you are good to go.
Nice feature..
How on earth do you install the SD card in this phone? I thought I had it in correctly, but nothing shows up, doesn't detect the card at all
Anyone got a picture of an SD card in the tray, so I can see which way round or goes?

For me also never shows up.I
made a look with a lamp, and i think 1 Pin is broken. Also i get some scratches in the sim card from SD Card Pins. But 1 scratch is not showing up.

Figured out which way to put it in, it now detects it but says it's corrupted and needs to be formatted.
It works fine in my Sony phone and has my photos on it!
Make a backup on your PC.

As Unstable42 says, stick it in a PC, or hook it up via your Sony phone if you don't have a reader & back everything up. I had the same thing moving from my LG G3. Think it's because the OS sticks some files on there when it's first put into a new phone so it wants to format it. I suspect if the card was swapped back to your other phone after formatting in the P9000 you'd have the same issue, just speculating though.
Sent from my P9000 using XDA-Developers mobile app
That's what I did. The stock camera won't let you use the SD card
