Good evening people,
I need some help please. I thought I would flash my phone and flash a different rom on it. Obviously you have to root it first so I downloaded Odin,Samsung Quick Root, GT-I9100_XWLA4_insecure.tar & GT-I9100_XXLP6_secure kernels.
I used Odin to get the insecure kernel on so that I can then root my phone before rooting it back to a secue kernel and changing its rom.
After using odin,I routed the phone, said succesful but my phone sticks at the original load up screen. I unrooted it but its still sticks there but without the triangle.
Can someone please point me in the right direction as what to do as need to sort this soonest possible please, thank you.

Will I lose everything on my phone by reflashing the stock ICS 4.0.3 firmware?? I am downloading that at the moment from that sammoble website for o2 phones which I have.
Thank you for your immediate response
No, your internal sd will be intact... You will lose contacts and sms so make sure to back them up first

since my last back up I dont think I've added many new numbers so not too bothered about that. Main thing was the photos which I have which at least wont be affected.
So after downloading the original stock for ICS4.0.3 from SamMobile, do I just upload the kernal and stock to PDA in ODIN and press start and then let nature take its course? lol

Right, I flashed the original stock from Odin and the phone is now working again, woohoo. I never thought I'd be so happy to see the O2 arena in London, lol.
However its still not working fully coming up with a crash warning like "Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped" and "Unfortunately, LogsProvider has stopped." and basically crashes all the time.
What I am looking to do is install this: CheckRom RevoHD 7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312240
I have downloaded the Rom for it, Odin and as mentioned previously them two kernels. You recommend I download Siyah Kernel 4.1.5 but cant find it unless I'm being blind, and is it a kernel which you have to tamper with or can you leave it as is?
When I have everything,as far as I know the steps are:
Open Odin, Flash the New Kernel
Root the device,
Copy Rom on to sd card
Start UP VOLUME,POWER & HOME
Install Rom from SD card
Is that right?

the error is common after install of a Stock rom ma8, all u have to do is to reboot to recovery and there 'Wipe Data/Factory reset' to get rid of the same
any way since ur trying to install check rom revo Hd 7, no need for the same
first flash the .tar file of siyah kernel v4.1.5 from Odin to root ur phone, after that when on reboot u will have an 'Yellow triangle' which u can get rid of later.
after installing the siyah kernel successfully u can install the Check rom revo hd 7 by following the install instructions in its thread
but u have to do a 'wipe data/factory reset' in siyah kernel's recovery, before flashing the Check rom

Excellent,thank you for your help.
I flashed the siyah kernel with Odin and then after installing CheckRom on to the SD card I installed the custom rom straight from there. I didnt do the wipe/data factory reset before flashing the checkrom but it seems to work just fine and the speed difference is quite a massive difference.
However, its easy enough to follow that step and wipe/data factory and then reinstall CheckRom,once again it says Confirm Wipe of ALL USER DATA?? Can I just confirm one last time that this wont get rid of all my photos and then I'll be happy to wipe/data factory reset before reinstalling the check rom.
Thank you for your help, glad to see that I didnt lose any contacts either as I had synced with google account at some point recently. just lost messages which not bothered about.

Hi there, I'm panicking right now.
I just rooted my phone using a tutorial online and it was no problem and everything worked fine after that.
Then I used another tutorial to flash my ROM to CM7 and that's when I started to have problems.
I booted into ClockworkMod Recovery (holding volume up + home + power) and wiped data and chache partition, then I select "Install zip from sdcard" and chose CM7 zip file which I had put on to my sd card, I get a message that installation was successful.
But now I can't access my phone, it's stuck at the Samsung Galaxy SII logo.
I have wiped data again and used Odin to flash a stock ROM on to my phone but it doesn't work.
I need help guys.
EDIT: This post doesn't matter now, there is a new reply at page 3 with new problems.
Did you use a .pit file a repartition when you flashed a stock ROM with ODIN again? What do you mean the phone doesn't work? Does it bootloop or still stuck on the startup logo?

Well the phone did bootloop at one time and I fixed that by flashing a stock ROM on the phone with Odin, did not use a PIT file.
Now the phone is just stuck on the white Galaxy SII logo and I was hoping that flashing the phone again with stock ROM would also fix that.
I did not use a PIT file for that either.
Please reflash with a stock ROM that contains DBDATA and use a .pit file for repartitioning... That should fix your phone!

Yep!
@OP Download this package : http://hotfile.com/dl/130600047/b70801e/I9100XXKI3.rar.html
And then, in ODIN, put :
.PIT -> PIT
CODE -> PDA
MODEM -> PHONE
CSC -> CSC
Toggle repartition, and those 2 standard ticks. DO NOT TICK ANYTHING ELSE.
That WILL fix your phone Bootloops means that you soft bricked it. Flashing a new ROM + PIT always fixes a bootlooped device.

Also, I tried flashing to CM7 again with ClockworkMod Recovery and it now said:

Installation aborted
Is that bad?
The amount of bad advice in this thread is shocking.
Do you actually have an I9100?
My first thought from your original post is that you didn't flash twice in succession, and the flash you did do was practically instant.
Regarding your last post, status 7 is usually when you're trying to flash something not meant for your device.

Thanks man! You saved me!
I was seriously going to stay up all night trying to fix this and skip school tomorrow...
But I still want a custom ROM
Is there a better way than booting into ClockworkMod Recovery and installing zip file from sd card?
Also, any idea about why all this would happen to me? I got all the tutorials on an Icelandic forum where a person with the same phone did exactly what I was going to do and it worked perfectly for him, and I have gone over the steps many times, I did not screw up.
How to flash CM7
1) Flash a kernel with CWM, CF-root will do
2) Download CM7 zip and put it in your internalSD card
3) Boot into CWM
4) Flash CM7 zip
5) Reboot into CWM
6) Flash CM7 zip again
7) wipe cache/data/dalvik cache
6) reboot and wait for upto 10min for it to boot.
You HAVE to flash the CM7 zip twice.
Also you NEVER need to use the .pit, also never tick repartition, a bad flash with repartition ticked is a one way street to hardbrick land.

Ideally, you:
1. Flash a stock ROM via ODIN
2. Flash CF-Root via ODIN
3. Flash a custom ROM such as CM9 via CWM Recovery
Ok thanks guys!
And just to be sure, I went here: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/samsung-galaxy-s2 and was going to download nightly, or is their anything else you would recommend more?

My phone is really starting to annoy me now.
I put a stock ROM on the phone and then flashed CF-Root and when I boot up in CWM and select something it just displays the loading sign and then I hit the power button and I'm back on the main menu of CMW, doesn't matter what I select it only displays the loading sign and it doesn't go away.
It really sucks, I had put all the CM9 files on the SDcard and was ready to go.

Don't panic dude, it happens sometimes Keeping cool is the key to fixing your phone without making it worse than it already is... I can't count the times this has happened to me already, and there ain't nuffin like a good 'ole repartitioning to set things straight (and show the damn contraption who's boss around these here parts.. I hate those stupid machines to whom nobody has ever taught that Man's genius INVARIABLY always triumphs over dumb and inert matter.. )
(although I almost never flash the whole ROM back on : most times flashing the .PIT file and rebooting the device does the trick -unless it's an installed app which caused the trouble in the first place, in which case you're better off starting over from scratch than wasting time trying to debug the problem)
N.B : don't forget to flash the "old bootloader" too, AFTER you've flashed the PIT and rebooted the device (or at least rebooted the recovvery, to check that it boots off a valid partition), I've noticed the new one can give a lot of weird and unpredictable behaviors when used in conjunction with root and a CMx ROM.

I was going to ask : have you flashed the CM rom twice, and flashed the google apps pack BEFORE even rebooting the phone ? It's almost always mandatory to do this precise sequence, the installation routine of the CM ROM is not quite perfect -far from it, actually..
Hi,
I have installed Android ICS 4.0.3 in my galaxy s2 two days back, but now i want to go back to the company provided version Android 2.3.6 for india.
I tried the official firmware given in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
but i am experiencing some problem and the mobile doesn't goes beyond the initial start up screen where it says "click on android logo to start"
Please anybody can tell me how to install properly the official firmware android 2.3.6 DDKL1 for Samsung galaxy s2.
Please let me know the exact steps to do and the link for files to download.
Thanks in advance.
The files you have should work fine. Did you flash.as shown in the pictures in the OP of the thread you linked?
If your getting to the android start screen your phone should boot fine. Did you click on the android to start?

Yes i did click on the android logo, It doesn't do anything rather some android process is getting stopped and i am getting popups for it.
while installing 4.0.3 i included all PDA,Phone,CSC and Pit files in odin manager and there by re-partitioned also.
the official firmware link above gives me only the PDA tar file rest of the other files i searched and downloaded dunno whether it is correct. so is it possible for you to give the full set of tar files, if u have?? or direct me to some links where i can download those.
I used the 2.3.6 xila version from remorema at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444651. Just make sure you wipe system/cache and delvik cache before you install from zip in cwm. Then it all should be fine. This presumed you have a CWM.
Hope this helps

It's probably interfering with something if you're getting all of the process close.
I suggest a factory data reset if you can, close your phone and go to recovery (even if its a stock rom, the original android recovery will also work) and do a factory data reset and try again.
If that still doesn't work, try re-flashing again and see what happens.

Hi, mani_vic2rious
If U want to revert back to ginger Stock roms, then this is your place :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444651
I recommend you to choose only from ginger ones, and remember thy are all from samsung, thus, not tweaked or anything. the only difference is that you can install them via CWM, for those who don't like to use Odin on windows PC.
Now if you want to stay in ICS 4.0.3 LP2 based rom, I recommend you Wanamlite V7.2 :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436817
U won't find more stable and functional than this.
Keys to succes in any rom installation :
1- Backup all your personal Stuff;
2- reboot into recovery (cwm) and wipe every single thing : datas, all caches (use the advance menu to wipe more things like dalvics and battery stats)
3- install your rom
4- then restore your personal stuff
As possible as you can : Always reinstall your apps from the begining and avoid restoring them from the backup you did, this always cause conflits and that's why people are always complaining, only do backup your contacts sms and other things like that.
and voilĂ , always stay clean as possible, and every thing will work smooth, you only need to choose the right rom.
I hope this helps!

But the problem begins at the boot .....The first wizard for configuration of the phone cannot executed, throws an error and the android cannot tapped.

Hello,
I want to go back to gingerbread from resurrection v7.4 ics rom.
I made a backup before i flashed the rom, via CWM, do i just wipe everything and flash the backup? or any extra steps?
also now i cannot load files into my phone, i turned on usb debugging and can access files but when i try to copy a file into the phone it says "can not copy items" "the device either stopped working or has been disconnected"
Help please, many thanks.
To restore you dont have to wipe anything.Use CWM app or boot to recovery and restore. After that Id wipe cache pratition and dalvik cache just in case.Factory reset may be a good idea seeing as your coming back from ICS but thats your choice. After that see how mass storage is.Ive read a few threads about people having trouble getting back from ICS.Hope it all goes well.

Thanks Cooza,
but i think i made a stupid mistake, im getting an MD5 mismatch when i try to restore, im searching for the reason, im not sure its true but i think its because i renamed the backup folder from its original date/time to a name i gave it. does that cause MD5 mismatch?
the rest of my backups are with ICS not Gingerbread . is there another way to go back to my version ( i dont mind reformatting the whole phone if i have to)
my former gingerbread Version was
Baseband: XXKI4
Kernel: JPKJ2
android 2.3.5
Flash stock rom then CF root with the exact same CWM kernel you used to backup .
jje
flash via odin the stock rom and custom kernel if you want to have root
otherwise just flash the stock rom, id suggest the original android dev subforum
Ive read that you shouldnt change the name of a nandroid backup but I dont know if that could be the problem. You could Flash the old bootloader and try the nandroid but I dought now that it would work so the best is to flash a custom ROM as the other posters have been advising although like I said ealier Ive read alot of threads with people having this problem of coming back to Gingerbread from ICS.Thats the risk of flashing a test ROM as no ICS ROM is full complete yet.Dont worry mate, theres still hope

Renaming it will cause a mismatch, if you can't recall the original name, don't worry. You can use Advanced Restore from recovery to restore the b/u.
Thanks guys,
Ill be honest, the only time i flashed my phone was when Cf-rooting then i downloaded the .zip files for resurrection ics and it was easy cuz done via CWM.
so ive never flashed a rom on my fone using odin, i fell intimidated i bit, dont know the difference in flashing a rom and a kernel (i know what they are but donno how to flash individually)
anyways i went to sammobile.com, downloading the stock firmware now.
by searching online i now think the zip file from sammobile will have some files and i gotta load the files provided in their proper places (dont know if .pit file will be provided with it, nor if i need to load .pit)
please tell me if what ive mentioned above is correct, sorry for the noob questions but i just dont wanna screw up.
after all of that ill then back up properly and try some gingerbread roms and kernels. but i just wanna get it back to the original first to be safe, dont know if i can just flash gingerbread roms and kernels with my ics phone.

I went back myself from ics to a stock ROM. It's really easy
What I did first was fully wipe cache, dalvik etc in cwm. Next up: put your phone in download mode (volume down, home and power)
Start odin and add the tar file or tar.md5 file with the PDA button. That should be the only file in the zip, if there are more: look at the file names, they'll say where to add them in odin.
Next up, connect your phone to your computers usb port (odin should tell you that it has added your phone) and hit the start button.
After the flashing is done your phone will reboot and it should be back to normal. Now you can flash a kernel to get root again if you like
Good luck, it will work out just fine

Well done.Better to wait for the official release of ICS
Right so here is my thing acouple of days ago i tried to go from a rom based on XLPH to one Based on XLPQ. I did the four wipes however on startup it would go into Kernel Panic Mode. I could not access cwm but could get into dl mode so i flashed cf root XLPH and managed to get back to the original rom i started from. It seems that any XLPQ based rom results in the same outcome of Kernel Panic Mode even siyah.Ive tried to go back to stock to start again but the same thing keeps happening. However as a last resort i flashed an original ota based samsung Build i don't now get the Kernel Panic Mode message but a blank screen and it shuts down I've managed to get into dl mode and get back to my original rom any advice.

unfortunately.. i having same problem..tired of this..please someone help..
i think it maybe hardware i hope not
Been a few people on my forum with the same problem but I seemed to avoid it.
First I made a nandrord backup and passed it to my PC.Then formatted my internalSD(have all important stuff on external anyway)then passed it back to internalSD again with the new ROM.Formated the phone-System,Data,cache in Mounts and Storage and flashed the official ICS from SamMobile.Rooted booted to recovery and then flashed the ROM on a clean device. After that flashed the CF-PROPER kernel cos the CF-Root kernel has the apps to SD and Titanium restore problems. So far all running smooth.
thanks will try that how do i get a nandroid back up to my pc
guys can i install this new XXLPQ ics update manually??...i heard its for the european phones...im in Malaysia...hope it wont effect my carrier phone calls, sms ad 3G network ~~
how did you reformat through cwm and how did you flash the official ics from sammmobile just glad im not the only one with this problem thought it was my fault.

sorry should have put it better i just want to know whether her reformatted in cwm or any other way ie kies.
CWM only .

Sorry had to go to bed.It was late in the morning here.
1.have your nandroid and custom ROM on the internalSD.The wont be touched by a format.
2.Boot to recovery and go to Mounts and Storage and format System,Data;Cache
3.Go back and wipe battery stats.Go back and do a Factory reset.
4.Reboot your device.
It wont boot properly cos you have formatted the system so pull the battery, put it back in and boot into download mode. Now flash via Odin the Official LPQ firmware that you can download from SamMobile and root with chainfires CF kernel. Now flash your custom ROM.
Tryed find a full "odin-version" of a XLPQ, including bootloader?
it MUST include XLPQ bootloader for this to work.
I had Kernel panic when I needed go from Omega V4 to v5.
Odin image with same kernel as needed, root it,
then try install youre new rom.
Good luck man
Thanx guys will try later maybe the idea of messing with the bootloader scares me im gonna try cooza method first.

Hi everyone,
I gave it a shot at rooting my phone and upgrading it from android 4.0.3 to 4.2.1 (rootbox) but I failed miserably. Somewhere in between the phone got stuck at that warning yellow marker and it would only allow me to get into download mode. After trying 5-6 different firmware versions, I finally managed to get one of them to work with Odin and the phone works once again but this firmware version does not work with kies.
I have no idea what the original version was, but I can get all the details from an identical phone from the same operator if you tell me what would be needed. I know it is a silly question, but is there a way to download the firmware from another identical phone used by the same operator?
I want to either restore the phone to a firmware version of local Swiss operator or properly manage to upgrade the firmware to a light version of android so I won't have to deal anymore with all those useless default apps which start automatically and eat up the battery.
I welcome any and all advices.
Thanks in advance.
did you do a full wipe?
my SII is runnning on SlimBean 4.2.2.
just try it
the latest firmware for you S2 you will find at sammobile->firmwares->check your firmware
You can download stock from
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ just search for your phone and carrier then flash back to stock.
As the previous post said did you wipe first? Try a factory reset then flash the rom.

Thanks a lot for the help. With this new firmware on I finally managed to install RootBox 3.8 with Android 4.2.2.
It would be great if I someone would lend a hand in fixing the following 2 small, but quite annoying issues:
1. finding a way to remove 3 of the 5 home screens - I just don't need them and its annoying.
2. finding a way to disable the vibrations that happen whenever I use the on-screen keyboard to write anything

1. If you are on TwLauncher (original one) put two of your fingers on opposite corners or homescreen and then move both fingers to middle. Then you'll see all homescreens and just long press one and a dustbin will appear. Put the homescreens on it
2. Settings > sound > there it will be an option to have you vibrate while pressing and you can uncheck it.
This is very basic stuff, you should explore everything on your phone before asking questions. Keep in mind for next time.
Till then, cheers.

Thanks for the feedback. Be it basic or not, it simply does not work. I used the basic Rootbox as described in this thread.
1. No matter how much I move my fingers on the screen no menu appears
2. System settings >> Sound >> "vibrate on touch" is disabled yet the phone vibrates when I type on the screen keyboard which is really annoying to others if I am in a meeting ... I googled for about 6 hours for a solution and when I failed to find one I posted here. I am sure that the time of everyone here is quite precious I would never want to waste it.

If you can get to the samsung boot logo, then no. Can you access recovery? Or just download mode? If you can access recovery, then factory reset>clear cache>clear dalvik cache and flash one of the firmwares you'd have on your sd card, assuming that you used CWM to flash a zip in the first place (you said that you had cMIUI and rootbox working, go back to one of those.) If you can't get into recovery, then try download mode. You need to keep trying to flash with Odin if you can only access download mode. There's a set of troubleshooting steps to follow if you get another bad Odin flash. Search through my posts for them, I posted them a week back or so.

If you're attempting to flash a stock ROM through CWM recovery, stop now. That'll never work. The only way to flash a stock ROM is to use Odin, Mobile Odin (which in your case won't work, requires phone to boot) or Heimdall (I've never used this personally). So if you're using recovery, DON'T flash stock. You have two options to flash a ROM at present:
1) Stock ROM using Odin
2) Custom ROM using CWM recovery.
Done and working Thanks a Lot

I flashed into stock rom XXLSJ variant. phone is working fine but lost access to root. in order to regain recovery menu i rooted my phone.
1. Now i want to backup my ROM using titanium backup. But its stuck at Gaining Root Access Screen What do i do now?
2. Stweaks,Super User and CWM have disappeared how do i get it back??
3. Strange thing Whatsapp is not working Unable to connect using my datapack
4. Can i Software update irrespective of the JB Stock ROMs region I am from.
Good job getting it working again now, time for you to do some reading. Read about what flashing a custom kernel will do for you. Then pick one that's compatible with your firmware and flash it.
