Hi when i try to delete anything off my external SD card it wont delete. i also cant copy things from my internal storage to sd.
When i plug it into my PC with my USB cable and try to delete anything it says the same.
I've just plugged it in to my PC with a USB micro SD adapter and everything works fine.
Does anyone know anything about this? I'm really quite confused
Check the card for errors/run chkdsk on it. (I recommend copying your stuff first as I have had chkdsk get rid of important files [that didn't seem corrupted to me, but what do I know]. This was only once, mind.)
If you look at the mount options for the external sdcard, you'll spot this: /dev/block/vold/179:49 on /storage/extSdCard type vfat (rw,dirsync, nosuid, nodev,
noexec,noatime,nodiratime,uid=1000,gid=1023,fmask=0002,dmask=0002,allow_utime=00
20,codepage=cp437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,utf8,errors=remount-ro).
In your case, I imagine rw is ro. If you want to verify if your card is getting remounted ro because of errors, look through the output of dmesg.
Got it sorted, thanks. chkdsk was the answer. :highfive:
How do you run chkdsk on s3
How do you run chkdsk on an S3 connected to a computer? There is no drive letter to specify.

Happens quite often on SIII, not sure of the exact reason. And its not because of the mount option changing to ro.
No you can't run it by connecting the phone to PC. Need a card reader to connect the microSD to the PC and then run chkdsk
i think this is a possible solution
settings > storage > unmount sd card (wait for it to become safe to unmount)
then press mount sd card. you dont have to take the card out of the phone.
it solved this problem in my galaxy beam just now^^

So I recently Romed my Viewsonic G Tablet.
I followed this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
Everything is fine..except when I put a SD card into the SD slot the Tablet doesn't recognize it. It just tells the the internal Space not the SD card space.
I used ZPad Clean v3.0 for the ROM and I used cwmod_internal.zip instead of cwmod_microsd.zip
I then used my friend's G Tablet and put the SD card in it..It read it just fine.
So I wanted to test it out while it was rooted. (to double check)
I then Rooted my friends GTablet also. I rooted it the same way but the only change I did was have a SD card in the tablet the whole time. Still the same problem.
Is there any way to fix it? DO i need to use cwmod_microsd.zip....instead of cwmod_internal.zip??
I'm really confused if someone can help me that would be amazing!
Is there an APP that tells you the storage of your installed SD Cards?
Thank you
You mean flashed the rom when you say romed. Have you checked to make sure the sdcard is getting mounted? If there is no data on it you might try reformatting it in either of the g tabs. If you can get to a shell you might reboot, and look at the last 20 lines or so of dmesg. Insert the card and take another look at dmesg and see if the kernel is picking up the insert at all. If so it is likely just a mounting issue.

Well I reformatted it and I mounted it. Still nothing..How can I check if the kernel is picking up the SD card at all?
Would changing Kernel's fix the problem? I'm just using the Stock Kernel that the ROM came with.
Thanks
You were able to reformat and mount it via the g tablet with the zpad software on it? And even having done that it doesn't list it as having any free space?

Not yet. So should I go to Storage and devices and unmount and format the SD card via the tab?
Try it on the tablet.
If I reformat the SD card wouldn't I loose the root? or no right because I did external
My understanding of root is that it modifies files on your tab/phone, not an external sd card. Worst case you lose root and reroot the device.

When I tap click mount it says 11.3 gigs available.
when i unmount it says unavailable.
The card is only 8GB.
It should be internal storage 16GB.
SD card like 8gb.
Not sure what's going on.
If I format I think I'll wipe it all.
Ok, there is an internal 16GB, yes. Of which you have 11GB free. The SD card you're having the issue with is a separate uSD 8GB, right?
I'm meaning for you to try to mount/unmount or possibly format the 8GB SD card. If it isn't showing at all then the issue is something beyond it simply not being mounted.

Yeah. It's a separate card that I plugged into it.
Was there ever a fix/resolution for this? I am having the same issue.
Everyone,
I've written this a bunch of times -- but here's one more:
/sdcard -- internal memory of the tablet
/sdcard2 -- miniSD card in the external slot
/usbdisk -- USB key slot
Put your recovery folder and update.zip on /sdcard, turn off the tablet, the press power
and volume + to initiate standard recovery.
Second, put your recovery folder and update.zip on a miniSD card. Edit the command file
in the recovery folder with Notepad to change the location from /sdcard to /sdcard2 and
save it with the name "command" (NO .txt or other file extension). Then boot
recovery with power/volume + and the OS will use the sdcard (assuming you don't
have a live recovery/update.zip file in /sdcard).
Third, if you can boot recovery to CWM but can get your ROM to work, go in recovery to
the mount menu and go down to the mount USB memory option and choose it.
Then plug your connector cable from the miniSB port to your PC. When you plug into
your PC an Explorer window should open and you should have a drive letter representing
the G-Tablet (it's G: on mine) on you menu. You now can select that
letter and you have access to your tablet memory (/sdcard). I've even had a time or two
when not a single file showed!!! I added update.zip and recovery and loaded
a ROM!
The tablet boot process apparently checks /SDCARD. If it doesn't find a recovery files there
it does the same check if you have a miniSD external card installed. The large USB slot is not
useable for booting or recovery so far as I have determined or read.
I hope this helps you.

I own a visio tablet which I rooted with vegan and clockwork. I have a 32GB SD card but when I check the storage is says 12GB on SD and 2GB on internal. The tablet should have 16GB + my 32GB. Anyone have an idea why it wont come up?
Is the fix above the best way to take care of this issue?
Can anyone kindly help? I've read through a lot of the links and can't find anything. I have rooted my device with clockworm v8, Vegan, got the market place to work and now I just need to figure out what is going on with my 32GB SD card. Should I format it with FAT32? How can I get it to be recognized?
Thanks in advance!
Formatting to Fat32 would be a good start ;-)
SD Card Dilemma
I have the VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1 installed in my G-Tab and, with the exception of the SD card issue, things are just peachy! I've read the entire thread but, even with butchconners description, I seem to still be missing something. Let me try to structure this a bit differently...
1. The sdcard2 DOES show up in ifilemanager (with only one file, LOST.DIR) but NOT in SETTINGS. Since it does not appear in SETTINGS, there is no way to mount or dismount it (although if it shows up in the file manager and I can see the file on it, one might infer that it is already mounted.)
2. Even though I can see it in ifilemanager, I'm not so sure how I can actually USE it. It seems to me that the system would need to know (via SETTINGS) that it is there and I would have to tell the system where to put my files (i.e., sdcard or sdcard2).
3. When I connect my G-Tab to my Win7 PC, I only have access to sdcard AND NOT sdcard2. This seems a bit unusual since I have always had access to the removable sd card AND NOT the system memory on all my other devices (EVO, Blackberry, etc.)
My goal is to be able to set applications (some or all) to use the sdcard2 (at least for data) and be able to access it via the usb connection to my PC. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?...Has a solution for this already been posted somewhere?
Many thanks.
I am not an expert but the pc sees(?) only sdcard(internal) but no sdcard2(microsd).
Right, Guys?
I am now able to see both sdcard1 and sdcard2 using pershoots latest oc kernal released 4/25 when hooking up gtab via usb to computer. I am using Vegan tab gingeredition.
where does one find that kernel and how do i install it? Im running vegan ginger right nowand have the same sd card issue.
thanks!
I've looked at the other threads on this but, none seem to match my problem.
I've a 16 GB MicroSD card in my S2. S2 is not-rooted running stock ROM.
This card used to mount ok. It no longer will.
In Settings->Storage, space reported is unavailable (because it's not mounted).
I can run Format SD Card option which returns quickly.
Running Mount SD Card, it's says Mount in Progress but it never completes.
If I put the card into an SD card reader, it looks fine. FAT32 formatted card, with approx 16GB available.
Any ideas?

I had similar problems with two other sd cards.
First running without any problem, and then suddenly the message appeared that the sd card is empty or not connected.
In both cases, the sd card was broken.
But in my cases, the sd card could not be used in a USB adapter by PC either.
As the sd cards were nearly new, I could make a warranty replacement and now I have got a card which works fine for about two months.
You can check this, by switching the sd card into another phone.
And use another sd card in your phone.
If the other card will work in your phone and your sd card will have issues in the other phone too, replace the broken sd card.
Good luck !
P.S.: You should format the sd card with your phone and not by your PC.

Thanks for the response. I should have said that another 4GB card worked in the phone ok. This did lead me to think it was a card problem. However, he fact it works via a PC indicates otherwise.
Will try it in another phone.
Just throw it away?
Has anyone seen this before i.e. not working in phone but ok in SD reader?
If so, did you manage to resurrect it? Or is it time to throw it out?

Try this. Settings>Application>Development
Check usb debugging.
Connect phone to pc. In notification bar click "usb connected" message, and click on "connect usb storage" button. You won't see the sd card mounted in pc!
Now disconnect phone, reboot. It might mount
See if there's any luck.
Since you're not rooted, solutions are quite limited in numbers

Tried disconnecting and rebooting in 2 senses of the word
1. Hitting the disconnect usb storage button on screen
2. unplugging the usb cable.
Unfortunately, neither worked.
i'm having this problem now both on internal and external sdcard... it wont even mount on recovery... i'll try see if i can this done.. Windows damages everything.. i made a cleanup of the sdcard and a format..
I have a car stereo that is usb enabled and I would love to use my phone to store my music on and be able to play it through the stereo. The problem I am having is that when I plug the phone in I'm guessing my stereo recognizes the internal storage mounting first and won't pick up the 32GB Micro SD Card.
My Question: Are there any apps out there that will automatically mount the SD when the phone is plugged in, but not mount the internal storage?
I've tried the Auto Mount app, but that mounts internal and external both, I need something that ONLY mounts the SD card.
Thanks.
Not sure if this will work but, I know when you plug into a computer and mount as a disc drive, it unmounts the SD card from the phone for the computer to read. What happens if you unmount the SD card in settings, then plug in your phone? Like I said not sure if it will work, just throwing out ideas.

I think that will cause the same problem as the Auto Mount app though, it mounts both the Phone's Internal and External storage. I'm looking for something that mounts the SD Card only, not both. Thanks though, I'll give it a shot and see if maybe it will mount them in a different order.

Hopefully this isn't insulting your intelligence. But when your phone is mounted as storage, you should see /sdcard/ext_sd . This is a mount point for /sdcard2 so you should be able to access everything on your 32GB card via that directory.

From what I can tell that mount point only works when browsing storage through the phone, when connected to the pc/car stereo it only acts as an empty folder.
I have the same problem with my Galaxy S2.
I pinned my hope on an app called USB Sharer but unfortunately it won't run on my phone, you might wanna give it a try (cost $ though, the developer refunded straightaway when I said it didn't work on my phone)
Supposedly with that app the usb is emulated and so you can pick which files & folders to share
every time i unmount my sd card, there's no way to remount it on my nook tablet,
is there an app that help me do this?
(i just don't want to open the SD card slot)
on PC, there is an app called "usb safely remove" that can remount usb, sd card,....
and do i need to unmount sd card when i don't use it, if i just leave it there, will it drain my battery, or is it ok?
no one knows?
It's fine to just leave the sd card plugged in, shouldn't have any noticeable drain on your battery.
Sent from my Nook Tablet using XDA
I have the same problem, If I unmount the SD card or physically remove from the slot with the tablet on, when I remount or insert the card again, all apps cannot see the card anymore even though under storage setting the card is shown mounted, I have to restart the tablet to make things go back to normal.
This is annoying because when I try to transfer files to the card via USB cable I get really slow transfer rates, like 2.0 MB/s taking forever when trying to transfer huge files, when I plug the card directly to my card reader I get 6.0 MB/s which is the card class speed.

when i made this thread i didn't have this problem, but now I do have the same problem as you.
I hope someone knows how to fix this.
There is an app called Script Manager (smanager) that you get from the google store. You can create a shell script that will mount your sdcard. That's what I did. I have my internal media partition mounted to /mnt/sdcard and I have my sdcard mounted to /mnt/sdcard/_ExternalSD.
I'm not sure why it isn't detecting your SD card after putting it back in though... unless you have it custom mounting somewhere and it doesn't like it. Are you "Unmounting" before you eject? If not, that could cause some error. Maybe grab catlog from the store and see what comes up in the log after you plug in the sdcard.

When you bought it, did it come with a micro SD to SD adapter? If so, that adapter might have a button thing on the side. Insert your micro sd card in the adapter, slide the thing on the side so it works.
the switch only works while the card is in adapter, it doesn't change anything for the microsd card.
fix permissions from recovery
Connect phone to the computer through adb, pop out and reinsert your MicroSD and then run "mount" and "dmesg"
Paste output here.
It's possible the filesystem is damaged, then it will go read-only until the filesystem has been fixed or formatted. A fsck.vfat (?) should fix it for FAT32, equivalent tools exist for Fat64 and NTFS. Note that you may have data corruption if your filesystem is really defective.

Yes, the switch only blocks a write-line on the SDcard so it cannot be altered. MicroSD do not have it on themselves due to their size.
