[Q] Help with cm10 install - Motorola Droid X2

Hi not allowed to post to developer area, so hope I can get help here. Thought I did everything right, sbf to stock 2.3.4, rooted, used clockworkmod recovery to back up, downloaded cm10, gapps, wiped, everything went to unzip rom and got a sd card error (system 7) had to sbf back to 2.3.4 again and redo everything, formatted sd card with phone, rerooted, downloaded tried again, same error. What did I do wrong?? I thought it would be pretty bulletproof. Used directions and a couple of youtube videos to help.
Kind of afraid to try again because its alot of work to get back. Is the problem with my sd card?, my phone, the downloads?? really want jellybean on my x2 hated the fact we didnt get upgraded to ICS
Any help would be greatly appreciated

didnt make it to recovery either time. because I wiped, couldnt get to recovery, stuck on motorola icon, so I sbf'ed back to 2.3.4 and reloaded all my stuff. My two attempts didnt go well. I thought the problem was in the sd card, so I erased it. Should I have formatted it to FAT 32 with Windows 7? didnt

the point was, that you couldn't have used cwm, because it doesn't work with dx2
we have bsr/system recovery, which looks and works like cwm
the question was how you got to where you wipe data
was it through system recovery app and wall charger or
android recovery through rom manager or boot options
---------- Post added at 10:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:18 PM ----------
in bsr did you select install zip from sdcard? not install update
---------- Post added at 10:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:21 PM ----------
pretty sure a status 7 error, is a apply update error

the apk file I used for recovery was: MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.apk. is that the one I was supposed to use? Should I be using the patched version? I am on rooted stock 2.3.4 Yes, I selected install zip from sdcard.

not really an answer to my question, how you got to recovery
but yes that's the correct one
the zip may be corrupt, redownload and/or compare md5 checksums

tried again with a new sd card... downloaded zip file again, re backed up, checked the md5 got a match, went into recovery with the charger cable, wiped everything, installed zip from sd and got the same error message:
set_perm: some changes failed E:error in /sdcard/cm-10-20121007-unofficial-daytona.zip (Status 7) installation aborted
any ideas?

I don't understand why you are having problems.... from stock 2.3.4 boot into BSR... install CM10, install GApps, then wipe data and cache and reboot......
Just to clarify the bsr should be downloaded.. placed on the root of your SD card, install via a file manager like root explorer or anything similar... you should then have an app called system recovery. Open it and press install recovery, plug into a wall charger and press recovery mode...
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium

If on stock rooted 2.3.4 follow this:
1. Download and install moto dx2 bsr
2. Click on system recovery in app drawer. It should be a grey background with dark grey droid.
3. Click install recovery. Should be first of 3. Select OK when notification says successfuly installed.
4. Plug in charger.
5. Select recovery mode.
6. Phone should power down and then boot into recovery.
7. Use volume controls to scroll down and select "backup and restore" with power button. Then select backup next, then select external.
8.When backup is finished. Wipe cache, dalvik cache and wipe data.
9. Chose install zip from SD card. Then chose install from external ,if that is where you have it.
10. Chose ROM and let install. After installed scroll down to " Go Back" and select.
11. Repeat step 9 and chose gapps package. Let install. After installed scroll down to "Go Back".
12. Select reboot system now.....Enjoy..
NEVER SELECT REBOOT RECOVERY....

Thought you were to wipe data and cache after installing the ROM anand GApps. That's how I've always done it.
Sent from my JB'd X2

I have always wipe before install. Wiping before so you have clean slate when you flash. I don't think it really matters
Sent from my MB870 using xda premium

with a moto phone, it's not a bad idea to wipe before and after

It's simple. In your last sentence "couldn't" should simply be replaced with won't. Not worth it to them, buy new stuff... that's their philosophy.

Thanks

ODIN will not remove the update.zip so you can add a ROM and then go into clockwork then flash and your good to go. Try out Toxic or the new D9, there awesome.

Yes, you will have to re-flash recovery. If you have the update.zip on your SD card already (like ransz28 mentioned above) then just boot into stock recovery and (using the volumes to navigate and the power button to select) click on 'Reinstall Packages'. It will cycle a bit and you will see that yellow text again then it will return to the stock recovery. Select Reinstall packages again. You are now in CWR. Now you can flash your new ROM
If you get lost, don't have an update.zip, or want a step by step guide on flashing a new rom there's a guide for that to... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028 Just start at "GREAT, I AM ON JFD NOW - HOW DO I ROOT?"

As I said in that thread, it doesnt currently work. Here are my posts in that thread:
Just installed the official CM9 Nightly
I don't think i did anything wrong...
Fresh Wipe, Install Zip with Gapps..
After boot animation I get force close loop of 2 different things:
Unfortunately, System UI has Stopped
Unfortunately, SetupWizard has Stopped
Anyone with any luck?
If you had the same issue as me, and want to go back to your old rom (in my case Virtuous)
Step 1: Wipe CM9
Step 2: Restore Nandroid of Virtuous (Restores everything BUT Boot img)
Step 3: Flash the latest Virtuous over top of what you just restored. (flashes virtuous kernel/bootimg again)
Profit?
Oh well..

Rom Manager will be the same as CWM, except the current RM scripts don't allow for 'reboot into recovery', so it will just reboot back into the OS after you select that option in Rom manager

It won't work as I and others have said. System UI issue.
But a tip is
Wipe
Install zip
Install GAPPs
Assuming future versions will work.

Hey,
Yup, I too had the same UI stop and what not. Tried it twice with unmounting and mounting staging as well as trying to install with and without gapps.
Just went back to Virtuous for now, I just wiped and reflashed the rom so dont know about the boot img deal.
To bad though, was hoping for some stable cm9 with youtube working.

The "Boot img deal" is the following:
CM9 flashes its own kernel.
Nandroids Cannot restore kernels currently on the prime.
So if you decide you dont like CM9, restoring a nandroid still has the cm9 kernel, which is why I have said:
Step 1: Wipe CM9
Step 2: Restore Nandroid of Virtuous (Restores everything BUT Boot img)
Step 3: Flash the latest Virtuous over top of what you just restored. (flashes virtuous kernel/bootimg again)
Flashing over top of your restore, restores the correct kernel img

[Q] accident installing ROM

hi guys, i have came here to ask for some professional advice since i am completely stuck.
i am new to android and custom ROMS. I did my research into how to install custom ROMS to my android though made a mistake.
I basically wiped my phone from the:
"ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS:
no
no
no
no
yes
no
no"
.... its now stuck on either stock recovery mode or on the screen where it shows the colorful S and the words Samsung GALAXY S II screen.
What i did
I installed clockworkMod to my android since i wanted to directly install the cyanogenMod from the clockwordMod app. i watched some you tube tutorials and did some research on how to. I followed the steps up until it was time to install the CyMod. i cant access my phone anymore to be exact but an error message along the lines of:
E: cannot install this ROM
E: another failed install message
installation canceled.
(sorry it vague, i struggle to remember the exact messsages)
So i tryed it again and the same error messages came up. previous to this stage i had taken all the backup recommendations though due to a ...Mistake i wiped everything off the phone from the example above thinking it was a step before installing the new ROM. and now im here...
I assume this is a very noob thing to do but...well everyones got to start somewhere.
my phone does not get recognized by my computer so cant transfer files into it and reboot like that so i have no idea how to get it back?
any advice or help would be great.
thanks.
**EDIT**
i am also able to access Download mode (if this helps for a solution)

im not too sure how i would do this.
i can enter recovery mode and the options i have are :
reboot system now
apply from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
so i chose apply from sd card and the list is:
../
update.zip
update1.zip
.adc/
.adobe
ETC
but there is no 'clockworkMod' backup folder or anything which i would assume the backup is stored!!
the update.zip and update1.zip is the CyMod that didnt work (failed to verify whole-file signiture)
?

[Q] Serious help needed. Stuck in Recovery

Downloaded the new Clockworkmod Recovery from ROM Manager only to find that I could not back up to the external SD Card. So I tried reverting back to an older version (v5.8.4.0) and try backing up again to the SD card.
My phone booted into what appears to be a broken version of CWM where none of the volume and power buttons work correctly. Pressing the volume down only makes the screen scroll down. I can't select anything at all. I can boot into download mode but Odin doesn't recognise my phone. Should I download Samsung drivers and try to flash a stock ROM?
This is really stressing me out as I'm afraid I might have screwed my phone up! Any help is greatly welcome.

Have you flashed back to a stock Rom?
Yeah I have.
Then I suggest rooting with auto root and flashing philz recovery after and if it still won't see the card then you might need to format it.....and personally I always do that in the phone.
Hopefully a clean install, with fresh root and recovery will get it going again, fingers crossed

I installed this now

How the hell do i find a rom to use?!?!

This has all been one nice ****ing nightmare.
Can someone please link me to a zip that i can flash from recovery that will freaking work?!
How are you flashing? Did you make a backup first? More importantly did you do a factory reset in cwm before flashing? That link you showed for mean beans works in this phone so it's something on your end

Sorry for all the confusion, i have the phone at least working now so I am calmed down.
After doing the root method, i installed clockwork and clockwork premium. I then downloaded that first ROM which should be for my phone. I selected install rom from SD and also checked backup current rom/wipe cache. When clockwork went to reboot, it booted up in a different recovery manager like TWMN or something? and it said the backup failed. Now the only way to get my phone out of boot loop is to select factory reset. However, when it is reset.... it really is not... i did factory reset and i have all of the options available to me from the ROM, the boot logo, the settings like CPU changing.
I downloaded several ROMs and all of them boot loop. the latest was the Liquid one i found on this forum, it bootlooped after flashing through CWM so I selected factory reset and now the phone is working best i can tell.
The only problem is i cannot get Netflix to work.... or Songza. Both apps fail. Netflix lets me log in and see all my stuff but just says "loading" when i try to watch a show, even after deleting the cache and a full re install.
I have rooted before and have never had issues like this with the boot loop. Something had to have gone wrong.
